In regular dance teaching, teachers find it difficult to pay attention to and meet the specific needs of each student. Extended-reality (XR) has the potential to help students get more information to dance learning. This study developed an XR interactive learning system to assist teachers in dance teaching, and explored the impact of XR on the process and results of dance skills. To assess the effectiveness of XR in dance education, a quasi-experiment was designed. Students majoring in preschool education in vocational high school in Hangzhou, China were recruited as research participants. 54 female students were divided into two groups with the same teaching pace, each with 27 students. The experimental group was taught dance lessons using a developed XR interactive learning system, while the control group was taught dance lessons using traditional methods. The experiment lasted for eight weeks and consisted of 16 lessons. Finally, the results indicate that XR has the potential to improve students' learning performance and facilitate learning interactions in dance learning; to provide real-time personalized feedback to students and improve autonomous learning. Moreover, XR has the potential to enhance learning experience by reducing the cognitive load of students in dance learning. The results of this study is expected to help those considering the use of XR to supplement dance instruction.

Phellodendron chinense is an extraordinary medicinal plant, and its stem bark is a famous traditional Chinese medicine in China, containing a number of phytochemicals with biological and pharmacological functions. Studies have shown that the medicinal ingredients in P. chinense from various regions are different, as soil types might be important factors affecting the growth and quality of P. chinense. In this study, the effects of acidic purple soil, alkaline purple soil, yellow soil and red soil on the growth, nutrient element accumulation and partitioning in P. chinense seedlings were studied. Our results showed that the biomass of leaves and stems in acidic purple soil was significantly higher than in other soils, and the root biomass was significantly lower than that in yellow soil. C, N, P and Ca contents cultured in acidic purple soil were the highest compared to other soils, and K and Mg content were the highest in yellow soil and red soil, respectively. The distribution of carbon between different organs can reflect environmental stress. N has become a limiting factor for the growth and development of P. chinense seedlings. C:N and C:P ratios in the leaves were significantly lower than those in the stem and roots. Among four soil types, the highest N:P ratio was 1.65 in P. chinense seedlings. These results suggest that four soil types may significantly affect the accumulation and distribution of biomass and nutrient elements in P. chinense seedlings. The characteristic patterns in different organs have different responses. Acidic purple soil is more suitable for the growth of P. chinense. These findings will help to understand the distribution characteristics and requirements of nutrient elements in P. chinense seedlings, and further provide a theoretical basis and reference for site selection and cultivation strategy. Water conservation is one of the most important ecosystem functions. This study uses the InVEST model to examine the water conservation function of the Qilian Mountain National Park (QMNP), an important water supply area in northwest China. We analyzed the spatiotemporal water conservation patterns of QMNP from 1988 to 2019. It showed that the water conservation capacity in QMNP has increased over the past 32 years, reaching a peak of 6.495×108 m3 in 2019. The area with an increased water conservation capacity is 12 times larger than the area with a reduced capacity. We also examined how climatic, land-use, vegetation coverage, and topographical factors influence water conservation functions. We found that precipitation is the main climatic factor in water conservation. The water conservation function also varies with land-cover type, with forests having the highest capacity, followed by grasslands. Lastly, topographical factors, including altitude and slope, also shape the spatial patterns of water conservation functions in QMNP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The sense of smell is essential in daily life. Children with olfactory dysfunction face a series of problems, so assessing olfactory function during early‐life period is very important. The Universal Sniff (U‐Sniff) test is a widely used measurement of odor identification ability in children and adolescents, although there is a lack of normative data in China. Therefore, the aim of this study was to establish normative data for the U‐Sniff test in a large sample of healthy Chinese children and adolescents. A total of 922 healthy children and adolescents (441 boys, 481 girls) aged 6–17 years from China were involved in this study. Odor identification performance was assessed using the U‐Sniff test. The U‐Sniff test mean score across all participants was 10.50 ± 1.73 points (range 1–12). U‐Sniff test scores increased with age, and no effects of sex or an interaction between age group and sex were recorded in this population. Practical Applications: There is currently no published data reporting normative data of the U‐Sniff test among Chinese children and adolescents. From the present research, normative data for olfactory identification using the U‐Sniff test have been established for Chinese population aged 6–17 years. This study provides routine measurements to support future examinations at hospitals, school check‐ups and so on, which can help patients with reduced olfactory function receive appropriate therapy as early as possible. Cercis chinensis Bunge (C. chinensis), well known as an ornamental plant widely distributed in China, and its flowers, bark, fruit, etc., have multiple bioactivities. However, reports on the changes in mineral elements, nutrient composition and antioxidant activity in C. chinensis flower at different development stages are rare. In this study, the flower samples were collected every 20 days from March 2023 to May 2023. The changes in carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P), soluble protein (SP), amino acid (AA), non-structural carbohydrate (NSC), total phenol (TP) and total flavonoids (TF) content as well as antioxidant activity in C. chinensis flower at different development stages were investigated. The results suggested that C, N, and P content, the C:N:P stoichiometric ratio, NSC contents, SP, AA, TP, TF and antioxidant activity of flower showed large variations at three development stages. This study found that C and P contents showed a significant decrease with the development and opening of flowers, while N content showed an opposite trend. The soluble protein content first decreased and then increased. The amino acid content, total polyphenol content, and total flavonoid content all showed a significant downward trend, while the content of NSC increased. Both ABTS and ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) showed significant decreases at various developmental stages, but DPPH was completely opposite. The highest NSC content and DPPH activity were observed at stage III, but the highest AA, TP, TF, as well ABTS and FRAP activity wereobserved at stage I. These findings will improve understanding of the requirements and dynamic balance among C, N, and P, NSC and nutrient contents as well as antioxidant activity of C. chinensis flowers in response to development stages. Background Adolescent mental health is a global public health concern and parental migration has been identified as a risk factor. However, the effect mechanism remained unclear. Methods A total of 2,737 participants (mean = 11.93, SD = 1.23) were recruited from twelve schools in migrant-sending areas in Zhejiang and Anhui provinces. The participants responded to items in Child Depression Inventory, Parent–Adolescent Communication Scale, Olweus Bully or Victim Questionnaire and socio-demographic questions. Serial multiple mediation models were analysed using the bootstrapping method. Results Current and previous left-behind (LB) experience were significantly associated with higher risks of depression, non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal ideation (p < 0.05). Mother–adolescent communication and school bullying victimisation, in serial order, mediated the effect of current LB status on mental health (p < 0.05). In terms of previously LB adolescents, parent–adolescent communication was a standalone mediator (p < 0.01) and the serial mediation effect of parent–adolescent communication and school bullying victimisation was significant. Conclusions Lack of parent–adolescent communication and school bullying victimisation acted as risk factors for the negative effect of LB status or experience on adolescent mental health. The importance of these two interpersonal factors motivates future intervention initiatives to support the mental health of LB adolescents from an integrated perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Parents are significantly important in shaping the screen use of children within a family system. This study aimed to examine the associations of Chinese children's screen time (ST) over four years with parents' attitudes toward their own screen use and physical activities (PA) and health behaviors including their ST, PA, cigarette smoking, and alcohol drinking. Methods: The current study utilized data from two waves (2011 and 2015) of the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), including 1,941 mother-father-child triads in 2011 and 2,707 mother-father-child triads in 2015 (with children aged 0-17-years-old). The ST of children and the parental attitudes and health behaviors were measured via self-report or proxy-report (for children under 6 years old) questionnaires. Pool-OLS regression models were used to assess the associations of parental attitudes and health behaviors with the ST of children. Moderation models were built to assess whether these associations depended on the gender, age, and family income of children, as well as whether paternal and maternal influences were moderated by the other parent. A multilevel cross-lagged panel model (CLPM) was used to assess parental influences on children's ST over four years. Results: Paternal ST (β = 0.09, p < 0.001), maternal ST (β = 0.10, p < 0.001), and paternal alcohol drinking (β = 0.30, p < 0.05) were positively associated with children's ST. In addition, maternal smoking had a positive association with girls' ST (β = 0.53, p < 0.05). Moreover, the association between maternal ST and children's ST was observed to decline as family income increased (β = -0.03, p < 0.001). Paternal ST had a larger positive association with children's ST when the ST of mothers exceeded 14 h/week (β = 0.06, p < 0.05). Furthermore, lagged associations were found between paternal attitudes toward PA (β = -1.63, p < 0.05) or maternal cigarette smoking (β = 1.46, p < 0.05) and children's ST measured four years later. Conclusion: Children establish a healthy lifestyle within the family system. From the perspective of the healthy family climate, the current study suggests that future programs for reducing children's ST should be built through an integrative approach with special attention to parental attitudes and health behaviors. Objective: The consequences and impact of violent behavior in schizophrenia are often serious, and identification of risk factors is of great importance to achieve early identification and effective management. Methods: This follow-up study sampled adult patients with schizophrenia in primary mental health care in a rural area of southern China, in which 491 participants completed a comprehensive questionnaire at baseline and the 2-year follow-up. Sociodemographic, clinical and psychological assessment data were collected from all participants. Paired sample T-Tests and the McNemar Test were performed to examine changes over the follow-up period. Generalized Estimating Equations (GEE) were used to analyze the risk factors for violent behavior. Results: The results showed that about two in five community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia reported violent behavior in the past year. At follow-up, participants were significantly less employed, had more times of hospitalization, more psychotropic medication, and severer depressive symptoms, but had better health-related quality of life than at baseline. Use of clozapine and better insight into medication decreased the possibility of violent behavior, while more severe positive symptoms, insomnia, as well as use of second-generation antipsychotics other than clozapine, antidepressants and mood stabilizers increased the possibility of violent behavior. Background Lucitanib is a novel multi-target inhibitor of FGFR1-3, VEGFR 1-3, and PDGFR α/β. Here, we evaluated the safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of lucitanib in recurrent and metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (RM-NPC). Methods Patients with pretreated RM-NPC were randomly divided into two treatment arms: continuous or intermittent treatment. The primary endpoint was safety and tolerability. Secondary endpoints were objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and progression-free survival (PFS). Results One hundred percent of patients in the continuous arm and 90% of patients in the intermittent arm had at least one treatment-related AE (TRAE). Grade ≥3 related TRAEs occurred in 5 patients in the continuous arm (5/10, 50%). No TRAEs grade >3 occurred in the intermittent arm. The ORR and DCR of the continuous arm was 20% and 90%, and the intermittent arm was 10% and 60%, respectively. All responses were observed by the first evaluation. The duration of response was more than 1 year, with two patients still on treatment with sustained response at more than 3 years. Conclusion Lucitanib has promising clinical activity and tolerable safety profile in heavily pretreated patients with NPC. Patients who responded to lucitanib treatment generally achieved a long DoR. Aims: COVID-19 has long-term impacts on public mental health, while few research studies incorporate multidimensional methods to thoroughly characterise the psychological profile of general population and little detailed guidance exists for mental health management during the pandemic. This research aims to capture long-term psychological profile of general population following COVID-19 by integrating trajectory modelling approaches, latent trajectory pattern identification and network analyses. Methods: Longitudinal data were collected from a nationwide sample of 18 804 adults in 12 months after COVID-19 outbreak in China. Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7 and Insomnia Severity Index were used to measure depression, anxiety and insomnia, respectively. The unconditional and conditional latent growth curve models were fitted to investigate trajectories and long-term predictors for psychological symptoms. We employed latent growth mixture model to identify the major psychological symptom trajectory patterns, and ran sparse Gaussian graphical models with graphical lasso to explore the evolution of psychopathological network. Results: At 12 months after COVID-19 outbreak, psychological symptoms generally alleviated, and five psychological symptom trajectories with different demographics were identified: normal stable (63.4%), mild stable (15.3%), mild-increase to decrease (11.7%), mild-decrease to increase (4.0%) and moderate/severe stable (5.5%). The finding indicated that there were still about 5% individuals showing consistently severe distress and approximately 16% following fluctuating psychological trajectories, who should be continuously monitored. For individuals with persistently severe trajectories and those with fluctuating trajectories, central or bridge symptoms in the network were mainly 'motor abnormality' and 'sad mood', respectively. Compared with initial peak and late COVID-19 phase, aftermath of initial peak might be a psychologically vulnerable period with highest network connectivity. The central and bridge symptoms for aftermath of initial peak ('appetite change' and 'trouble of relaxing') were totally different from those at other pandemic phases ('sad mood'). Conclusions: This research identified the overall growing trend, long-term predictors, trajectory classes and evolutionary pattern of psychopathological network of psychological symptoms in 12 months after COVID-19 outbreak. It provides a multidimensional long-term psychological profile of the general population after COVID-19 outbreak, and accentuates the essentiality of continuous psychological monitoring, as well as population- and time-specific psychological management after COVID-19. Adult patients with relapsed or refractory T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (R/R‐T‐ALL) have extremely poor prognosis, representing an urgent unmet medical need. Finding an optimal salvage regimen to bridge transplantation is a priority. The CAG (cytarabine, aclarubicin, and G‐CSF) regimen was initially used by one group in China, showing unexpectedly promising results in 11 R/R‐T‐ALL patients. Here, we report the multicenter results of 41 patients who received the CAG regimen as salvage therapy. After one cycle of the CAG regimen, complete remission and partial remission were achieved in 33 (80.5%) and two (4.9%) patients, respectively. Failure to respond was observed in six patients (14.6%). Early T‐cell precursor (ETP) (n = 26) and non‐ETP (n = 15) patients had a similar CR rate (80.8% vs 80.0%, P =.95). Among 41 patients, allo‐HSCT was successfully performed in 27 (66%) patients (22 in CR and 5 in non‐CR). With a median follow‐up time of 12 months, the estimated 2‐year overall survival and event‐free survival were 68.8% (95% CI, 47.3%‐83.0%) and 56.5% (95% CI, 37.1%‐71.9%), respectively. The CAG regimen was well‐tolerated, and no early death occurred. Our multicenter results show that the CAG regimen is highly effective and safe, representing a novel choice for adult patients with R/R‐T‐ALL and providing a better bridge to transplantation. Background: The calcicole or calcifuge behavior of wild plants has been related to element deficiency or toxicity. For fern species, however, knowledge about their adaptive differences and responses to soil environmental changes is virtually absent. In the karst regions of southern China, most Adiantum species favor calcareous soils, but A. flabellulatum prefers acidic soils. Such contrasting preferences for soil types in the same genus are interesting and risky because their preferred soils may "pollute" each other due to extreme precipitation events. We mixed calcareous and acidic soils at 1:1 (v/v) to simulate the "polluted" soils and grew three Adiantum species (the calcicole A. capillus-veneris f. dissectum and A. malesianum and the calcifuge A. flabellulatum) on the calcareous, acidic and mixed soils for 120 d and assessed their growth performance and element concentrations. Results: The calcareous soil showed the highest pH, Ca, Mg and P concentrations but the lowest K concentration, followed by the mixed soil, and the acidic soil. After 120 d of growth, the calcifuge A. flabellulatum on the calcareous and mixed soils exhibited lower SPAD and relative growth rate (RGR) than those on the acidic soil, and its leaf and root Ca, Mg and Fe concentrations were higher and K was lower on the calcareous soil than on the acidic soil. The calcicole A. capillus-veneris f. dissectum on the calcareous soil had similar leaf element concentrations and RGR with those on the mixed soil, but their leaf Ca, Fe and Al were lower and leaf P and K concentrations, SPAD and RGR were higher than those on the acidic soil. For the calcicole A. malesianum, leaf Ca, Fe and Al were lowest and leaf P and RGR were highest when grown on the mixed soil, intermediated on the calcareous soil, and on the acidic soil. Compared with A. malesianum, A. capillus-veneris f. dissectum had lower leaf Ca, Fe and Al but higher leaf Mg concentration when grown on the same calcareous or mixed soils. Conclusions: A. capillus-veneris f. dissectum is a low leaf Ca calcicole species while A. malesianum is an Al accumulating calcicole species. They can effectively take up P and K to leaves and hence can thrive on calcareous soils. In contrast, the calcifuge A. flabellulatum grown on calcareous soils is stunted. Such growth performance may be attributed to the increased leaf Ca and decreased leaf K concentration. If their preferred soils are "polluted", A. flabellulatum can grow worse, A. capillus-veneris f. dissectum can remain almost unaffected while A. malesianum will perform better. Background: Violence against patients with schizophrenia is very common, however it is rarely studied in China, especially in primary health care institutions of rural areas. Therefore, we investigated the frequency of violence against patients with community-living schizophrenia in rural China and examined its associated factors and impact on quality of life (QoL) and social function. Method: A survey was conducted among 487 patients with schizophrenia living in rural communities. Data about violent victimization experiences in the past 6 months, demographic information, and clinical characteristics were collected by questionnaires. Results: We found that 92 (18.9%) of 487 subjects experienced at least one type of violent event in the past 6 months. Logistic regression analysis suggested that a history of conducting dangerous behaviors(OR = 1.702, P = 0.02, 95%CI: 1.05–2.73), higher Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (anxiety domain) score (OR = 1.15, P = 0.02, 95%CI: 1.01–1.304) and lower hospitalization rates (OR = 0.89, P = 0.04, 95%CI: 0.81–0.99) were significantly associated with violent victimization in patients with schizophrenia. Analysis of covariance showed the victims of violence tended to have worse social function in patients with schizophrenia living in rural communities of China (P = 0.04). Conclusions: Individuals with schizophrenia living in rural China had a high risk of being exposed to violence and violent victimization of patients with schizophrenia had adverse consequences for social function. This study aims to examine the quality of life of Chinese migrant children and to explore whether social capital mediates the relationship between a child's migration status and quality of life. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a district of Shanghai, China. Based on a sample consists of 1,577 Chinese children in fourth to sixth grade, we used multivariable linear regression to examine the associations and mechanisms among migration, social capital and quality of life. Migrant children reported lower scores for quality of life than their urban counterparts. However, we identified higher levels of neighbourhood social cohesion, trust in their school and neighbourhood, and higher level of maternal autonomy support can mediate the damaging effects of migration status on quality of life. The results indicate that hukou restrictions put migrant children at a disadvantageous position and negatively affect their quality of life. While their migration status is unlikely to change soon, we found that higher levels of certain social capital can alleviate the negative effects of migration status on children's quality of life, and thus can be utilised for welfare programme design. The reporting of suspected CSA cases to authorities in a timely manner is important in preventing continued abuse and protecting abused children at early ages. The current study seeks to explore parents’ intentions of reporting their own children’s CSA experiences to authorities as well as their reporting willingness when they become aware of possible CSA cases happening to children in other families. Two rounds of semi-structured interviews were conducted among a sample of 26 parents in Beijing; these parents were purposefully selected so as to be diverse in terms of gender, age, and socioeconomic status. The data were analyzed thematically. The findings showed that the reporting of suspected CSA to authorities was a choice made by only a few Chinese parents; it was often even a last resort. By using a holistic-interactionistic approach, the interaction between Chinese parents’ intentions of reporting CSA and the Chinese socio-cultural context was analyzed as a dynamic and continuously ongoing process. The impacts of the definition and perceptions of CSA on reporting, the balance of children’s rights and parents’ power, and the double effect of informal social control are discussed. The present study focuses on public perceptions of parental child beating and child physical abuse (CPA) in mainland China. In‐depth interviews were conducted with 20 parents and a quantitative survey was administered to a sample of 1033 adults in urban districts of Beijing. The quantitative and qualitative results are consistent: both parents and the general public were hesitant to consider the beating of one's own child (by biological parents) as a case of CPA. Respondents indicated that only when parents beat their children malevolently and frequently, so as to cause serious physical injuries, could it be considered CPA. The majority of respondents supported governmental interventions in severe cases of CPA. However, respondents' perceptions of CPA in mainland China are different from those that are prevalent in the West. Therefore, it is essential to develop programmes that educate the public in order to improve their awareness and knowledge of CPA in mainland China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The prevalence of depression in the elderly is growing worldwide, and the population aging in China makes depression a major health problem for the elderly adults and a tremendous burden to the society. Effective interventions should be determined to provide an approach solving the problem and improving the situation. This study examined the effectiveness of a mutual recovery program intervention on depressive symptom, sleep quality, and well-being in community-dwelling elderly adults with depressive symptom in Shanghai.Methods: Recruitment was performed between July 2012 and August 2012. Using a cluster randomized wait-list controlled design, we randomized 6 communities (n = 237) into either the intervention group (3 communities, n = 105) or to a wait-list control group (3 communities, n = 132). All participants met the inclusion criteria for depression, which were defined by The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15). From March to May of 2013, participants in the intervention group underwent a 2-month mutual recovery program intervention. The intervention included seven 90-min, weekly sessions that were based on a standardized self-designed schedule. Depression was used as primary outcome at three measurement moments: baseline (T1), before intervention at 24 weeks (T2), and immediately after intervention at 32 weeks (T3). Well-being and sleep quality were used as the secondary outcomes, and were evaluated based on the WHO-5 Well-being Index (WHO-5) and the Self-administered Sleep Questionnaire (SSQ). Finally, a total of 225 participants who completed all the sessions and the three measurements entered the final analysis. Mixed-model repeated measures ANOVAs were performed to estimate the intervention effects.Results: There was no significant difference in gender, marriage, age structure, post-work type, and education background between the intervention and control group at baseline. Multivariate ANOVAs showed that there was no significant difference within the groups in terms of sleep, well-being, and depression at baseline and before the intervention. Mixed-model repeated measures ANOVAs detected a group × time interaction on depression, sleep, and well-being and showed a favorable intervention effect within groups immediately after the intervention.Conclusions: The mutual recovery program could be a creative and effective approach to improve mental health in older community-dwelling adults with depressive symptom. PURPOSE: To investigate the prevalence and current status of caries about the first permanent molars of students in elementary schools in Xuhui District of Shanghai Municipality in order to provide evidence for prevention and treatment strategies of caries. METHODS: Random cluster samples of 5698 students aged from 7 to 12 years old were examined with regard to caries epidemic status of the first permanent molars. The results were analyzed by SPASS13.0 software package. RESULTS: The caries prevalent rate of the first permanent molars was 16.18%. The mean DMFT of the caries patients was 1.80. The females' mean caries prevalent rate and DMbq' of the first permanent molars were both significantly higher than males'. The caries rate increased rapidly with aging from 7 to 12 (P<0.01). The overall filling rate of the first permanent molars was 56.04% .The prevalence of the first permanent molars in the mandible was significantly higher than that in the maxilla (P<0.01). The caries rate of students, who brushed teeth twice a day or more, was significantly lower than those who brushed teeth once a day or less. CONCLUSIONS: The caries prevalence of the first permanent molars in students of 7 to 12 years old in elementary schools in Xuhui District of Shanghai municipality was less optimistic. Background: The seventh edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system considers tumor location as a factor in staging esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, more data are essential to test its efficacy. The purpose of this study is to assess whether tumor location should be included as a factor in staging of thoracic ESCC in Chinese patients. Methods: A retrospective review of 1,220 patients with ESCC who underwent complete resection between December 1996 and December 2008 was conducted. Survival was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method, and the log-rank test was used to assess survival differences between groups. Subgroup analysis and the Cox proportional hazards model were used to further determine the impact of tumor location on overall survival. Results: The median survival times for patients with ESCC in the upper third, middle third, and lower third of the esophagus were 45.1 months, 62.9 months, and 39.2 months, respectively, with corresponding 5-year survival rates of 44.8%, 50.5%, and 45.6%, respectively (p = 0.191). Subgroup analysis also demonstrated that tumor location did not determine survival prognosis. Multivariate Cox regression analysis suggested that being female (p = 0.001), being young (p < 0.001), having a lower grade of cell differentiation (p = 0.030), T category (p < 0.001), and N category (p < 0.001) were independent factors favoring overall survival, whereas tumor location (p = 0.295) and surgical approaches (p = 0.521) were not independent factors impacting prognosis. Conclusions: Staging of ESCC in the Chinese population should be simplified by omitting tumor location as a variable. More data from Asian populations are warranted to verify these results. Urban rail transit (URT) has been playing an important role in urban sustainable development with its advantages of high speed, large capacity, high efficiency and low pollution. Estimating URT network scale is the key to ensure the scientificity and feasibility of its construction. The existing studies on rational scale of URT network have not dealt with the interaction of supply and demand. This paper describes the establishment of a system dynamics model of rational URT network scale determination, considering the interaction between URT construction and city social economic development as well as the dynamic equilibrium of capital supply and traffic demand, and the verification of the model validity by applying it to the case of Wuhan City's URT construction. Background: Atrazine is widely used in agriculture and is a known endocrine disrupting chemical. Atrazine can seep into the water body through surface, posing a potential threat to the aquatic ecological environment and human drinking water source. In vertebrate, studies have shown that it can affect reproduction and development seriously, but its molecular mechanism for aquatic animals is unknown. Aquaculture is very common in China, especially common carp, whose females grow faster than males. However, the effects of atrazine on the reproduction of carp, especially miRNA, have not been investigated. Results: In this study, common carp (Cyprinus carpio) at two key developmental stages were exposed to atrazine in vitro. Sex ratio was observed to analyze the effect of atrazine on the sex. MiRNA expression profiles were analysed to identify miRNAs related to gonad development and to reveal the atrazine mechanisms interfering with gonad differentiation. The results showed that the sex ratio was biased towards females. Atrazine exposure caused significant alteration of multiple miRNAs. Predicted targets of differently-expressed miRNAs were involved in many reproductive biology signalling pathways. Conclusions: Our results indicate that atrazine promoted the expression of female-biased genes by decreasing miRNAs in primordial gonad. In addition, our results indicate that atrazine can up-regulate aromatase expression through miRNAs, which supports the hypothesis that atrazine has endocrine-disrupting activity by altering the gene expression profile of the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Gonad axis through its corresponding miRNAs. Background: Sexual dysfunction is common in patients with schizophrenia, however it is poorly studied in China, especially in primary health care institutions in rural areas. We investigated the prevalence of sexual dysfunction and its correlates including quality of life (QoL), in schizophrenia patients treated in primary care in a rural area in China. Method: By using a random numbers table, 21 small town primary care service centers (from 63 totally) were selected in the study. Data of 720 community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia in rural area with diagnoses according to DSM –IV or ICD-10 were collected by interviews. Data on socio-demographic and clinical characteristics including sexual dysfunction and quality of life (QoL) were collected using a standardized protocol and data collection procedure. Data were analyzed using chi-square tests, t-tests, U-tests, ANCOVA and multiple logistic regression as appropriate by SPSS 21.0.The level of significance was set at 0.05 (two-tailed). Results: In this sample, sexual dysfunction was found in 71.3% of the whole sample, 82.7% of female patients and 64.5% of male patients. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that older age (OR = 1.06, P<0.001, 95%CI: 1.04–1.09) and higher Brief Psychotic Rating Scale (negative domain) score (OR = 1.16, P = 0.01, 95%CI: 1.02–1.31) were significantly associated with sexual dysfunction. Contrary to previous findings, sexual dysfunction was not associated with quality of life after controlling for confounding variables. Conclusions: More than 2/3 of schizophrenia patients living in a rural area complained of sexual dysfunction, which was associated with older age and more negative psychotic symptoms. As emergencies occur more frequently, such as natural disasters and industrial accidents, evacuation planning attracts more and more attention. Bus is often used to evacuate car-free people due to its large capacity and manageability. To improve the efficiency and practicality of public transport evacuation plans, this paper presents a round-trip bus evacuation model based on unfixed routes with simultaneous optimization of bus scheduling and routing planning. With constraints of bus capacity, evacuee demand at pick-up points, time windows and flow balance, the proposed model aims to reduce the total evacuee time cost, including in-bus travel time and waiting time. Moreover, a two-layer algorithm, integrating the insertion algorithm and the edge-exchange algorithm, is devised to obtain the model sub-optimal solution. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed model and solution, two cases are presented in this paper. In the first case, the proposed model and algorithm manage to solve bus evacuation problems effectively. Furthermore, sensitivity analyses are conducted to show the impact factors on the objective function. Based on the realistic topology and size network of Ningbo in China, the second case illustrates the practical value of the model and solution in large-scale evacuation, and demonstrates the superiority over the conventional solution. Abstract Two new oleanane-type triterpenoids (1 – 2), a new ursane-type triterpenoid (3), and a new podocarpane-type diterpenoid (4), together with 20 known compounds (5 – 24) were isolated from the stems of Celastrus hindsii Benth. Their structures were identified on the basis of the spectral data (HRESIMS, IR, UV, 1D, and 2D NMR) and the absolute configurations were determined by comparison of experimental and calculated ECD data. The structures of 1 and 4 were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In addition, all compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antiviral activities against respiratory syncytium virus (RSV) using cytopathic effect (CPE) reduction assay. The tectonic setting of the late Paleoproterozoic suite of anorthosite, mangerite, charnockite and alkali-feldspar granite (AMCG) on the northern margin of the North China Craton (NCC) is controversial. This paper reports on the petrology, geochronology and geochemistry of the Beibaiqi, Beipuzi and Shibalitai mangerites in the Longhua area and the Shinao mangerite in the Jianping area. Zircon U–Pb dating reveals that these mangerites formed 1768–1725 Ma, similar to the other lithologies (1753–1673 Ma) of the AMCG suite on the northern margin of the NCC. The mangerites have intermediate SiO 2 contents (57.2–66.8 wt.%) and high K 2 O (4.04–7.05 wt.%) and Na 2 O (3.75–5.50 wt.%) contents, which belong to alkaline series rocks. They are enriched in light rare-earth elements (REEs) and large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs) of Rb, Ba and K, and they are depleted in heavy REEs and the high field-strength elements (HFSEs) of Th, U, Nb, Ta, Ti and P. The zircon ɛ Hf ( t ) values of these mangerites are negative (−8.3 to −1.7), with depleted mantle model ages ( T DM ) and average crustal two-stage modal ages ( T 2DM ) from 2250 Ma to 2533 Ma and 2573 Ma to 2959 Ma, respectively. These geochemical characteristics suggest that these mangerites originated from the early Precambrian lower crust of the NCC. Compared with the mangerites, the other lithologies of the AMCG suite display different evolutionary trends of their major elements and different distribution patterns of their REEs and trace elements, indicating that those lithologies were not formed through fractional crystallization by the same primary magma. The anorthosites share similar distribution patterns of REEs and trace elements and zircon Hf isotopic composition with associated norites. The data suggest that the anorthosites were formed by noritic magmas through fractional crystallization at the base of the lower crust. The alkali-granites and rapakivi granites display the geochemical features of A-type granites, and might have originated from partial melting of the mid-upper crust. Combined with regional geological data, these findings suggest that the AMCG suite occurred in a post-collisional/post-orogenic extensional setting rather than an anorogenic continental rift setting. Abstract: Zircon U–Pb dating and geochemical data are reported for the Jiefangyingzi and Yongshenghao granitic plutons from the Jiefangyingzi area to the northeast (NE) of Chifeng city, Inner Mongolia, with the objective of revealing the tectonic nature of the northern margin of the Sino-Korean paleoplate in early Mesozoic. Zircons from these granitic intrusions are euhedral and subeuhedral in shape with typical oscillatory zoning, indicating magmatic origin. The dating results indicate that these plutons formed in late middle Triassic (229±2Ma and 229±1Ma respectively), rather than in late Paleozoic, as previously thought. The Jiefangyingzi and Yongshegnhao granitic plutons are composed primarily of granodiorite and granite, with compositions of SiO2 =63.23–68.91wt.%, K2O=3.06–4.51wt.%, and A/CNK=0.94–0.99. Chemically, they belong to the high-K calc-alkaline series and meta-aluminous I-type granites. Zircon ε Hf(t) values of both plutons range from +2.1 to +5.0 and +1.4 to +3.9, respectively, whereas the whole-rock ε Nd(t) values of Yongshenghao pluton range from −1.2 to −0.7, indicating the participation of depleted mantle material in their magmatic source. The petrological and geochemical characteristics suggest that these plutons are post-collisional granitoids. Combined with regional geological data, we conclude that these late middle Triassic granitoids formed during the transitional period from the post-collision setting to the post-orogenic extension setting after the collision between the Siberian and Sino-Korean paleoplates. Background: Hepatitis A was ranked first among all of the different types of viral hepatitis in China, which occurred an average of 500,000 cases annually during the 1980's. A live attenuated hepatitis A vaccine was applied in preventing of the disease in 1992, large scale used in vaccination program in 1995, and incorporated in the Expanded Program of Immunization in 2008 in China. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine whether, and to what extent, the decline in the incidence of hepatitis A in China was the result of hepatitis A (HA) vaccination. Materials and Methods: Official documents and longitudinal serological follow-up studies were reviewed to compare the incidence of HA before and after the introduction of the vaccine. Results: National trends in the incidence of HA in China saw rates decrease by 92.7% in 2009, compared to the levels seen in 1992. A mass vaccination program was carried out in 3-18 year old children (Wuhan City, China), and its protective efficacy was 85.4%. In a mass vaccination program of an entire population (Shenshi County, China), the annual HA incidence decreased from 359.7/100,000 to 17.7/100,000 (almost 20.3 times). There was a significant relationship found between vaccine coverage and the incidence of HA, the correlation of the negative regression was significant at the 1% (Kendall rank correlation, significant level P < 0.05). Conclusions: In summary, this study highlights the important role of implementing a vaccination program in decreasing the incidence of HA, and the large protective efficacy of such a strategy, as demonstrated in China. The construction of urban ecological green wedges, which can mitigate the heat island effect through cooling and ventilation effects, is an important way to enhance the adaptation of cities to climate change. Dynamic monitoring and periodic assessment of both the conservation status and cooling effect of ecological green wedges is a key to ensure the heat mitigation benefits. Based on multi-source remote sensing data, we systematically analyzed the land use changes of six ecological green wedges in Wuhan in 2013 and 2020 using the methods of Markov transfer matrix, land use dynamics, and comprehensive index of land use degree, and evaluated the changes in surface temperature of the ecological green wedges and their cooling island effect. Results showed that the ecological green wedges in Wuhan generally had a large amount of construction land encroaching on ecological land from 2013 to 2020, with the water decreased the most. With the continuous deterioration of ecological green wedges, their land surface temperatures showed rising trends, together with significant weakening trends in cooling island effects. Among all the six wedges, the Dadonghu, Tangxun, and Wuhu exhibited relatively better ecological conservation, slighter land use change and lower overall development degree. Qinglinghu and Houguanhu demonstrated average levels of conservation. Fuhe experienced the most severe change under the significant influence of the westward policy of Wuhan City, with the proportion of water decreasing by 7.1%, warming up by 3.00 ℃, and the largest reduction in cooling distance for the cooling island effect, amounting to about 210 m. The results provided scientific evidence for the urban heat island mitigation-oriented planning and management of ecological green wedges for Wuhan City.

Background: Parent‒child communication in migrant families is essential to family bonds and the mental health of left-behind children (LBC). Little is known about the different patterns of communication between migrant parents and LBC and associated communication quality and mental health outcomes., Methods: A sample of 2,183 Chinese children (mean age = 12.95 ± 1.29 years) from Anhui province, including LBC whose parents had both migrated (n = 1,025) and children whose parents had never migrated (never-LBC, n = 1,158), was analyzed. With the LBC sample, latent class analysis was applied to identify the patterns of parent‒child communication. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to assess the associations between the sociodemographic variables and class membership of LBC. Analysis of covariance and chi-square tests were used to compare communication quality and mental health outcome differences among the classes of LBC and between each of the classes and never-LBC., Results: Five latent classes of communication formed through different media or channels between migrant parents and their LBC were identified. Higher household economic status (OR = 2.81, p < 0.05) was associated with adequate communication. LBC in Class 1, defined by frequent technologically-mediated and face-to-face communication, had a significantly higher quality of communication with their migrant parents (F = 8.92, p < 0.001) and better mental health than those in other latent classes; these children did not have significantly worse mental health outcomes compared to never -LBC., Conclusions: Facilitating multichannel parent‒child communication is a practical way of reducing mental health inequities between LBC and their peers., (© 2024. Multimorbidity is an increasingly significant public health challenge worldwide. Although the association between environmental factors and the morbidity and mortality of individual chronic diseases is well-established, the relationship between environmental inequalities and multimorbidity, as well as the patterns of multimorbidity across different areas and ethnic groups, remains unclear. We first focus on analyzing the differences in environmental exposures and patterns of multimorbidity across diverse areas and ethnic groups. The results show that individuals of Han ethnicity residing in Chongqing and Sichuan are exposure to higher levels of air pollutants such as PM 2.5 , PM 10 , and NO 2 . Conversely, Tibetans in Tibet and Yi people in Yunnan face elevated concentrations of O 3 . Furthermore, the Dong, Miao, Buyi ethnicities in Guizhou and Bai in Yunnan have greater access to green spaces. The key multimorbidity patterns observed in Southwest China are related to metabolic abnormalities combined with digestive system diseases. However, significant differences in multimorbidity patterns exist among different regions and ethnic groups. Further utilizing the logistic regression model, the analysis demonstrates that increased exposure to environmental pollutants (PM 2.5 , PM 10 , NO 2 , O 3 ) is significantly associated with higher odds ratios of multimorbidity. Conversely, a greater presence of green spaces (NDVI 250, NDVI 500, NDVI 1000) significantly reduces the risk of multimorbidity. This large-scale epidemiological study provides some evidence of a significant association between environmental inequalities and multimorbidity. Purpose: To investigate oral health behaviors of first-grade school children and parents' cognition of oral health in urban and suburban areas of Shanghai, and to analyze and compare the differences between the two areas, so as to provide reference for formulating oral health intervention measures and oral health education., Methods: A total of 3 312 first-grade school-aged children in Shanghai were included by cluster random sampling method. Relevant data were collected through questionnaire survey of parents' oral health and clinical oral examination of children. Chi-square test was used to compare the differences in oral health behaviors of children and parents' oral health cognition between urban and suburban area with SAS 9.4 software package., Results: The proportion of children who brush their teeth more than twice a day in urban and suburban areas was 72.55% and 44.26%, and the proportion of children who brushed their teeth with fluoride toothpaste was 53.25% and 44.79%, respectively. Compared with the suburban area, the brushing habits of school-aged children in urban area were better, the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05). In terms of medical habits, the proportion of children with no dental experience in urban and suburban areas was 26.99% and 44.08%, and the proportion of children with toothache in the past year was lower than that in the last dental visit, the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05). In terms of parents' cognition and attitude towards oral health knowledge, parents in urban areas were more correct than those in suburban areas, with the average correct rate being 82.56% and 70.42%, and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05)., Conclusions: There are regional differences in oral health behaviors of first-grade school children and parents' oral health knowledge between urban and suburban area in Shanghai. It is suggested that relevant government departments should strengthen oral health education and oral health behavior guidance for parents, and strengthen oral health investment in non-central urban areas.

Purpose: To study the gender difference and the regulation of growth and development in normal deciduous dentition． METHODS: A total of 189 children with normal deciduous dentition aged 3 to 6 years in several kindergartens in Xuhui District in Shanghai were selected. The three-dimensional(3D) digital dental models were reconstructed by intraoral scanning. Geomagic Studio, a 3D reverse engineering software, was employed to extract the data, such as the dental arc perimeter of C(APC), the dental arc perimeter of E(APE), the dental arc length of C(LC), the dental arc length of E(LE), the dental arc width of C(C-C), the dental arc width of E(E-E), the mesiodistal width of the deciduous crown, the maxillary and mandibular space. SPSS 22.0 software package was used for data analysis., Results: Parameters of deciduous dentition in boys were significantly elevated than in girls(P＜0.05). All the boys and girls were divided into 4 groups by age. In 3-year-old group, significant differences were observed in maxillary APC, C-C, E-E(P＜0.05) between boys and girls. In 4-year-old group, all boys' parameters were significantly greater than girls'(P＜0.05) except maxillary LC. In 5-year-old group, there were significant differences in all the parameters between boys and girl(P＜0.05) except maxillary APE and mandibular APC, LC, LE, C-C. No significant difference was observed in all the parameters except mandibular APE in 6-year old group. The significant difference between boys and girls were observed in the mesiodistal width of each deciduous crown except that of the maxillary lateral incisor and mandibular central incisor (P＜0.05). There were significant differences in maxillary LE and E-E among children of different ages(P＜0.05).The maxillary space was significantly greater than the mandibular space(P＜0.01)., Conclusions: There was gender difference in children's normal deciduous dentition, especially when they were 4 years old.

Objectives: To study the features of unintentional injury in children under the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)., Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on the medical data of 2 526 children with unintentional injury in Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from July 2019 to June 2022. The study period was divided into 5 stages: before the epidemic (July to December, 2019), the Wuhan epidemic period (January to April, 2020), the epidemic remission period in China (May 2020 to February 2022), the Shanghai epidemic period (March to May, 2022), and the epidemic remission period in Shanghai (June 2022). The incidences of unintentional injury in children at different time stages and different ages were compared. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 107 children of the 2 526 children to explore the features of unintentional injury., Results: There were significant differences in gender composition, age, age distribution and proportion of many types of unintentional injuries among the five time stages ( P <0.05). There was a reduction in the number of children who attended the emergency department due to unintentional injury during the Wuhan epidemic and the Shanghai epidemic. The proportion of children with trauma-related unintentional injuries in each stage reached more than 50%, and the proportion of children with trauma-related unintentional injuries reached 63.9% and 82.0%, respectively during the Wuhan epidemic and the Shanghai epidemic. Most children suffering from unintentional injury were mainly school-aged and preschool children (1 823 children, 72.17%). Compared with the same period of Shanghai epidemic in 2021, the age of children with unintentional injury was younger (median 7 years vs 11 years), and the proportion of children with trauma-related unintentional injuries increased (97% vs 69%) during the Shanghai epidemic ( P <0.05)., Conclusions: Under the COVID-19 epidemic, there is a reduction in the number of children with unintentional injury, while there is an increase in the proportion of children with trauma-related unintentional injuries. Unintentional injury is more common among school-aged and preschool children.

Context: Recent studies in specific population subgroups (e.g., pregnant women) have suggested PM exposure increases the risk of hyperuricemia. However, no studies have examined this in the general population. Furthermore, the underlying mechanism through which PM impacts hyperuricemia risk is poorly understood., Objective: To assess the association between long-term exposure to PM and risk of hyperuricemia and whether this association is mediated by lipid profile., Methods: We included 5939 participants in Southwest China from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (baseline 2018-2019, follow-up 2020-2021). Long-term PM pollutants (PM 1 , PM 2.5 , PM 10 ) exposure for each individual was represented by the three-year average PM levels before the baseline survey. Hyperuricemia at follow-up was defined as the serum uric acid above 7.0 mg/dL in men and 6.0 mg/dL in women. Serum lipids were measured at baseline including total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG). The association of PM with hyperuricemia was accessed through logistic regression. The potential mediation effects of serum lipids were evaluated through causal mediation analyses., Results: A total of 837 participants were newly diagnosed with hyperuricemia. The odds ratios of hyperuricemia associated with an interquartile range (IQR) increase in PM 1 , PM 2.5 , and PM 10 (IQR: 21.10, 25.78, 30.43 μg m -3 ) were 1.72 (95% CI: 1.23, 2.39), 2.68 (95% CI: 1.59, 4.49), and 1.81 (95% CI: 1.20, 2.72), respectively. The association between PM 2.5 , PM 1 , and PM 10 on hyperuricemia was mediated by HDL-C (10%) and LDL-C (3%)., Conclusion: Higher particulate matter exposure was associated with higher hyperuricemia incidence. The decline in HDL-C and rise in LDL-C partially mediated this association. Background: Few animal experiments and volunteer-based intervention studies have showed a controversial effect of spicy foods on abdominal obesity. We aimed to examine the association between spicy food frequency, spicy flavor, and abdominal obesity among Chinese Han population in the Sichuan Basin which area eating spicy foods relatively often., Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using the Sichuan Basin baseline data from the China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (CMEC) study, including data from electronic questionnaires, anthropometric measurements and blood sample collection. A total of 40,877 adults (22,503 females) aged 30-79 years were included in the final analysis. Multivariable logistic regression yielded adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for abdominal obesity associated with the strength of spicy flavor and frequency of spicy food intake., Results: The prevalence of daily spicy food eating was 47.3% in males and 52.7% in females, the percentages of abdominal obesity were 52.3%, 48.8%, 51.6% and 55.5% in the spicy food intake subgroups of never, 1-2 days/week, 3-5 days/week and 6-7 days/week, respectively. Compared with males who never consumed spicy food, the adjusted ORs (95% CIs) in the 1-2 days/week, 3-5 days/week and 6-7 days/week subgroups were 1.21 (1.09, 1.34), 1.35 (1.21, 1.51), and 1.35 (1.25, 1.47), respectively (P trend  < 0.001). The corresponding odds ratios for females were 0.95 (0.87, 1.05), 1.14 (1.03, 1.26), and 1.25 (1.16, 1.35), respectively (P trend  < 0.001). Similarly, compared with no spicy flavor, the adjusted ORs (95% CIs) of mild, middle, and strong spicy strength for abdominal obesity in males were 1.27 (1.17, 1.38), 1.51 (1.37, 1.67), and 1.36 (1.11, 1.67) respectively (P trend  < 0.001). The corresponding odds ratios for females were 1.14 (1.06, 1.23), 1.27 (1.15, 1.40), and 1.32 (1.06, 1.65), respectively (P trend  < 0.001)., Conclusions: The data indicated that spicy food consumption was a risk factor for abdominal obesity among Chinese adult population in the Sichuan Basin. Objective: Quality of life (QoL) has been always an important way to evaluate the outcomes of schizophrenia, but there have been few previous longitudinal studies and few in middle-income countries. This study aimed to explore the QoL in Chinese patients with schizophrenia treated in primary mental health care and the risk factors of QoL over time., Methods: Patients with schizophrenia treated in primary mental health care in rural/regional areas in Luoding, Guangdong, PR China, were evaluated with an extended questionnaire including the Chinese version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) at baseline and 2-year follow-up. Bivariate and multivariate analyses were conducted including Generalized Estimated Equation analyses (GEE)., Results: Four hundred and ninety-one patients with schizophrenia in primary care completed the 2-year follow up evaluation. The QoL physical, environmental, and social relationships domains showed improvement after the 2-year period, but the psychological domain did not. GEE results showed that earlier age of onset, older age, being employed, being unmarried, the thicker waist circumference, less use of clozapine or other SGAs, fewer hospitalizations, more frequent insomnia, more severe depressive and negative symptoms as well as worse treatment insight were independently associated with poor QoL in patients with schizophrenia., Conclusion: According to our results, to improve the quality of life of patients with schizophrenia in primary care, we should pay more attention to the treatment of depression, negative and insomnia symptoms of schizophrenia, the choice and dosage of antipsychotic medication and improvement in the treatment compliance. Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a heterogeneous syndrome with sex-specific pathophysiology. Estrogen deficiency is believed to be responsible for the development of HFpEF in women. However, estrogen deficiency does not seem to be completely responsible for the differences in HFpEF prevalence between sexes. While diabetes mellitus (DM) frequently coexists with HFpEF in women and is associated with worse outcomes, the changes in myocardial contractility among women with HFpEF and the DM phenotype is yet unknown. Therefore, we aimed to investigate sex-related differences in left ventricular (LV) contractility dysfunction in HFpEF comorbid with DM., Methods: A total of 224 patients who underwent cardiac cine MRI were included in this study. Sex-specific differences in LV structure and function in the context of DM were determined. LV systolic strains (global longitudinal strain [GLS], circumferential strain [GCS] and radial strain [GRS]) were measured using cine MRI. The determinants of impaired myocardial strain for women and men were assessed., Results: The prevalence of DM did not differ between sexes (p > 0.05). Despite a similar LV ejection fraction, women with DM demonstrated a greater LV mass index than women without DM (p = 0.023). The prevalence of LV geometry patterns by sex did not differ in the non-DM subgroup, but there was a trend toward a more abnormal LV geometry in women with DM (p = 0.072). The magnitudes of systolic strains were similar between sexes in the non-DM group (p > 0.05). Nevertheless, in the DM subgroup, there was significant impairment in women in systolic strains compared with men (p < 0.05). In the multivariable analysis, DM was associated with impaired systolic strains in women (GLS [β = 0.26; p = 0.007], GCS [β = 0.31; p < 0.001], and GRS [β = -0.24; p = 0.016]), whereas obesity and coronary artery disease were associated with impaired systolic strains in men (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: Women with DM demonstrated greater LV contractile dysfunction, which indicates that women with HFpEF comorbid with DM have a high-risk phenotype of cardiac failure that may require more aggressive and personalized medical treatment., (© 2021. To evaluate the associations of impaction patterns of mandibular third molars (M3Ms) with pathologies caused by them. In this study, 262 patients with 432 impacted M3Ms who referred in Shanghai Xuhui District Center were reviewed. The pathologies include pericoronitis, mandibular second molar (M2M) caries, and M2M distal periodontal pathology. The impaction patterns of M3Ms and the pathologies were examined, while the M2M outcomes after surgeries were evaluated. A χ 2 test was used to analyze the data, with a p value of <0.05 being considered statistically significant. Pericoronitis was the major symptom in all patients, whereas the propensities of M2M distal caries and periodontal pathologies increased in older patients. Soft tissue impacted and vertically angulated teeth were more associated with pericoronitis ( p  < 0.05); mesio-angular impacted teeth in less deep positions had greater risks of M2Ms distal caries ( p  < 0.05); mesio-angular and horizontal impacted teeth in relative deep positions were more likely to cause M2Ms distal periodontal pathologies ( p  < 0.05). Extractions of soft tissue impacted teeth in vertical angulations should be considered, while removals of mesially and horizontally angulated or bony impacted teeth could be delayed.

Objectives: Renal risk score (RRS) and chronicity score (CS) are both newly proposed tools to predict end stage renal disease (ESRD) which could be applicable in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated renal vasculitis patients. Their predictive value has not been fully studied and compared., Methods: 252 patients with newly biopsy-proven ANCA-associated renal vasculitis were retrospectively studied at the Department of Nephrology, Ruijin Hospital, China. Patients were evaluated with RRS and CS for clinical factors, pathological lesions and outcome. Their predictive value of renal survival was also compared., Results: The median RRS score point at diagnosis was 6 (interquartile range [IQR] 0-9) and CS score point was 4 (IQR 3-7). In accordance with severity of RRS category and CS grade, percentage of hypertensive patients, dialysis dependency, and level of proteinuria increased accordingly. Significant differences were found regarding dialysis dependency within RRS and CS groups (p<0.001 and p<0.01 respectively). The addition of RRS or CS scoring scheme to the base model of dialysis dependency significantly improved discrimination. The C statistic, integrated discrimination improvement and net reclassification improvement were significantly increased by adding either RRS/CS or both. Furthermore, RRS had better ROC., Conclusions: Among ANCA associated renal vasculitis patients, RRS and CS achieved similar discrimination, but the discrimination of RRS was superior.

Enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection is more likely to cause hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in children, which can lead to neurogenic complications and higher mortality. As a commonly used clinical medicine, Reduning injection (RDN) helps to shorten the symptoms of patients with HFMD and facilitate the early recovery of children. However, the regulatory mechanism of RDN on the HFMD immune system disorder caused by EV71 remains to be discussed. This study collected detailed treatment data of 56 children with HFMD who entered the affiliated Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University during 2019. Retrospective analysis of clinical data showed that the symptoms of the RDN treatment group were improved compared with the untreated group. To explore its mechanism, the relevant detection indicators were detected by flow cytometry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and real-time quantitative PCR. It was found that the number and function of innate immune (ILCs) and adaptive immunity (Th1, Th2 and secreted cytokines) were reduced, suggesting that RDN plays a role by regulating cellular immunity. The in vitro differentiation inhibition test further confirmed that RDN affected Th1 differentiation by inhibiting the expression of transcription factors on the basis of Th1 cell differentiation in vitro., (Copyright © 2021 China Pharmaceutical University. Pinus bungeana is one of indigenous trees in China and widely distributed in poor and arid regions for vegetation and industrial woody use. However, since a high-incidence disease threatens the growth of mature P. bungeana tree in the garden and in the plantation every year, the overwintering shoots were infected and died in the next spring with a ratio over 70%, but the cause was beyond understood. A total of 120 fungal isolates were separated from symptomatic twigs by histological isolation methods, including Pestalotiopsis spp., Fusarium spp., Trichothecium spp., Penicillium and some unknown fungal species. Pestalotiopsis spp. was dominant, accounting for 85%. Morphological observation under microcopy showed all Pestalotiopsis species are identical, and six isolations among them were randomly selected for pathogenicity tests. Fulfilling Koch's postulates showed that all six isolates of Pestalotiopsis spp. were pathogens of twig blight, causing the same symptoms as observed in the field, while other non-Pestalotiopsis isolates were avirulent to P. bungeana twigs. Multi-gene (ITS, tub2 and TEF1) analysis and morphological observation revealed that all the six Pestalotiopsis isolates belonged to P. trachicarpicola. To our knowledge, this is the first study reporting P. trachicarpicola as the pathogens responsible for P. bungeana twig blight in China.

Objective: To report the diagnosis and treatment of an imported case of schistosomiasis haematobia., Methods: The patient's medical records were collected, and the clinical features, laboratory diagnosis, epidemiological survey, diagnosis and treatment were analyzed., Results: The patient had arrived to Sudan and Egypt for many times and had a history of contact with the infested water. After returning to China, the patient reported a gross hematuria with unknown causes. Cystoscopy showed neoplasms in the bladder, and pathologic examinations showed chronic granulomatous inflammation with infiltration of plenty of plasma cells, and parasite eggs. Serological test showed positive for the dipstick dye immunoassay, and the microscopic examination of urine sediment revealed Schistosoma haematobium eggs. Following praziquantel treatment for a month, S. haematobium eggs were still detected in the urine. The case was treated with praziquantel again and cured without adverse reactions., Conclusions: Health education should be strengthened among China-aid-African workers to improve the awareness of self-protection. In addition, the diagnosis and treatment should be improved in medical professionals to achieve a timely definitive diagnosis.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of fluoride varnish Duraphat on preventing caries of primary teeth caries, and provide scientific basis for the establishment of oral health care., Methods: 1140 preschool children aged 3~4 years old were chosen from 25 public kindergartens in Xuhui district of Shanghai by cluster sampling method, they were divided into 2 groups on a voluntary basis with the informed consent of the child's parents. 762 preschool children in Fluoride Varnish group were taken oral examination and used fluoride varnishes every 6 months, 378 preschool children in the control group were without treatment. Oral health instruction was given to all the children. The data of caries prevalence, mean dmft, caries incidence and mean increments of dmft (decayed, missing and filled teeth) of 2 groups were compared. The results were analyzed using SAS 9.4 software package., Results: After 2 years, caries prevalence, mean dmft, caries incidence and mean increments of dmft of fluoride varnish groups were lower than those of control group and the difference was statistically significant (P＜0.05)., Conclusions: Fluoride varnish Duraphat is effective in decreasing caries incidence and mean dmft increments of primary teeth in preschool children and is worthy to be used widely in Xuhui district.

Athecate dinoflagellate Karlodinium veneficum is a universal toxic species possessing karlotoxins recognized especially as ichthyotoxic as well as cytotoxic and hemolytic. Blooms of K. veneficum, both single-species or accompanied with other species, occurred more frequently worldwide in recent years, including the coastal region of China. Normally, K. veneficum present in relatively low abundance in phytoplankton communities in estuary regions. Being small and difficult to identify with light microscopy, it has been ignored for a long time till its blooming and toxins being confirmed. How it presents in background level and what is its relationship with critical geological and hydrological environment factors are basically not clear. In this study, the paper reports the application of a real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) method to investigate the abundance and distribution of K. veneficum in the coastal waters of Xiangshan Bay in the East China Sea (ECS), a typical bay area of harmful algae blooms and heavily affected by anthropogenic activities. The real-time qPCR assay came out being an efficient method at detecting even low cell densities of K. veneficum of different genotypes. A total of 38 field samples of surface (0.5 m) and bottom water (9-100 m in depth) were analyzed and 12 samples were found positive for K. veneficum. At least 3 genotypes of K. veneficum present in this region. Temperatures in sites of K. veneficum positive ranged from 21.7 to 23.4 °C, and salinity levels were between 21.1 and 26.3. The K. veneficum distributed quite extensively in the waters of Xiangshan Bay, cell abundance varied from a low of 4 cells/L to a maximum of 170 cells/L. Most of the samples containing K. veneficum were collected from bottom water in different sites. At three of the 19 sampling sites, K. veneficum was detected in both surface and bottom water samples. Especially at sampling site near Beilun port, where the water is typically muddy with low transparency, relative high cell numbers of K. veneficum were found in both surface and bottom waters. Mixotrophy and vertical migration of K. veneficum could be important eco-physiological factors to consider in terms of understanding these distribution characteristics. Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a well-accepted surgical treatment for terminal hip diseases., Objective: To evaluate the effect of preemptive analgesia with parecoxib in patients undergoing primary unilateral THA., Study Design: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study., Setting: This study was conducted at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Beijing Jishuitan Hospital in Beijing, China., Methods: A total of 94 patients scheduled for primary unilateral THA in 2 centers (Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Beijing Jishuitan Hospital) were randomly assigned to receive 40 mg parecoxib (n = 48) or 0.9% normal saline solution (n = 46) 30 minutes before incision. All patients received standardized intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) postoperatively. Preoperative baseline data, surgery-related conditions, postoperative Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain score, cumulative narcotic consumption of PCA, and complications were compared between the parecoxib group and the placebo group., Results: There were no significant differences in postoperative VAS pain score, cumulative narcotic consumption of PCA, proportion of analgesic remedy, and complications between the 2 groups., Limitations: Only a single dose of parecoxib was used without including a dose-dependent control group., Conclusion: A single dose of parecoxib 30 minutes before incision did not provide effective preemptive analgesia for the management of postoperative pain after primary unilateral THA. The thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP)/TSLP receptor (TSLPR) axis is involved in multiple inflammatory immune diseases, including coronary artery disease (CAD). To explore the causal relationship between this axis and CAD, we performed a three-stage case-control association analysis with 3,628 CAD cases and 3,776 controls using common variants in the genes TSLP, interleukin 7 receptor ( IL7R ), and TSLPR . Three common variants in the TSLP/TSLPR axis were significantly associated with CAD in a Chinese Han population [rs3806933 T in TSLP, P adj  = 4.35 × 10 -5 , odds ratio (OR) = 1.18; rs6897932 T in IL7R, P adj  = 1.13 × 10 -7 , OR = 1.31; g.19646A>G A in TSLPR, P adj  = 2.04 × 10 -6 , OR = 1.20]. Reporter gene analysis demonstrated that rs3806933 and rs6897932 could influence TSLP and IL7R expression, respectively. Furthermore, the "T" allele of rs3806933 might increase plasma TSLP levels ( R 2  = 0.175, P  < 0.01). In a stepwise procedure, the risk for CAD increased by nearly fivefold compared with the maximum effect of any single variant ( P adj  = 6.99 × 10 -4 , OR = 4.85). In addition, the epistatic interaction between TSLP and IL33 produced a nearly threefold increase in the risk of CAD in the combined model of rs3806933 TT -rs7025417 TT ( P adj  = 3.67 × 10 -4 , OR = 2.98). Our study illustrates that the TSLP/TSLPR axis might be involved in the pathogenesis of CAD through upregulation of mRNA or protein expression of the referenced genes and might have additive effects on the CAD risk when combined with IL-33 signaling.

Purpose: To Investigate the current situation of caries of primary school students in Shanghai Pudong and Lichuan, Jiangxi province, and analyze the risk factors of dental caries, in order to provide scientific evidence for prevention and treatment of dental caries., Methods: A stratified cluster sampling method was applied to choose 10 primary schools from Lichuan and 2 primary schools from Pudong area, respectively. A total of 1922 pupils aging from 6 to 12 were selected. Oral health examination was applied to each student and questionaire survey was conducted among their parents. The results were analyzed with SPASS 21.0 software package. RESULTS： Two hundred and sixty-one caries was found in Lichuan pupils, with the caries rate of 23.6% and DMFT being 0.37±0.766. 96 caries was found in Pudong pupils, with the caries rate of 11.8% and DMFT being 0.19±0.582. There was significant difference between two areas. Analysis of risk factors showed a significant correlation between children's pre-bedtime sweets and other bad habits, as well as low level of education of children's parents and dental caries., Conclusions: The caries of primary school students in rural areas are significantly worse than those in urban areas; bad living habits are risk factors of caries and the knowledge of caries prevention should be popularized in school students to enhance the awareness of oral health among pupils.

Interleukin-13 (IL-13) has important functions in atherosclerosis, but its role in coronary artery disease (CAD) is unclear. Here, we studied the genetic role of IL-13 in CAD in a Chinese Han population using tag SNPs covering the whole IL13 gene (i.e., rs1881457, rs2069744 and rs20541) and a two-stage cohort containing 1863 CAD cases and 1841 controls. Traditional risk factors for CAD, such as age, BMI, and other factors, were used as covariates in logistic regression analysis. In the total population, we found that two haplotypes of IL13 (ATG and ATA, ordered rs1881457 C -rs2069744 T -rs20541 A ) significantly contributed to the risk of CAD with adjusted p values less than 0.05 (p adj  = 0.019 and p adj  = 0.042, respectively). In subgroup population analyses, the variant rs1881457 C was found to significantly contribute to a nearly two fold increase in the risk of CAD in men (p adj  = 0.023, OR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.09-3.33). The variant rs1881457 C also significantly contributed to a nearly twofold risk of late-onset CAD (p adj  = 0.024, OR = 1.93, 95% CI: 1.09-3.42). In conclusion, IL13 might be involved in CAD via different mechanisms under different conditions in the Chinese Han population.
