This paper takes the Ocean α SL40 autonomous unmanned survey boat used in the main reclamation works of Hong Kong International Airport three runway system project as an example to introduce the basic principles and workflow of the unmanned survey boat by using Hong Kong satellite positioning reference station network to conduct network RTK for bathymetric survey without the tide gauge. It shows that the unmanned survey boat system based on network RTK has a higher measurement accuracy and good adaptability in a special marine environment, which could provide more choices for the bathymetric survey of reclamation projects. Different revolutionary applications, like the unmanned autonomous systems, require a highly precise positioning with centimetre-level accuracies. And real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS positioning stands a chance to these potential applications. RTK positioning can provide a centimetre-level positioning in open-sky or suburban environments. However, the performance is limited in a deep urban canyon with severe multipath and cycle slip effects. The measurements with noise will introduce error and results in bad solution quality. Therefore, removal on the bad measurements and remain those good-condition signals become essential for performing RTK in the urban environment. Based on this idea, this article proposes using 3D building model with position hypothesis to select the healthy satellites for RTK positioning. We believed that using the 3D building model can better exclude the unhealthy or nonline-of-sight satellite compared to using a fixed high elevation angle mask. Therefore, this article will compare the position results between 3D mapping-aided GNSS RTK and the GNSS RTK with a fixed elevation angle mask. Geodetic- and commercial-grade receivers are employed to perform experiments in the urban environment of Hong Kong. The spatio-temporal distribution of atmospheric water vapor information can be obtained by global positioning system (GPS) water vapor tomography. GPS signal rays pass through the tomographic area from different boundaries because the scope of the research region (latitude, longitude, and altitude) is designated in the process of tomographic modeling, the influence of the geographic distribution of receivers, and the geometric location of satellite constellations. Traditionally, only signal rays penetrating the entire tomographic area are considered in the computation of water vapor information, whereas those passing through the sides are neglected. Therefore, the accuracy of the tomographic result, especially at the bottom of the area, does not reach its full potential. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new method that simultaneously considers the discretized tomographic voxels and the troposphere outside the research area as unknown parameters. This method can effectively improve the utilization of existing GPS observations and increase the number of voxels crossed by satellite signals, especially by increasing the proportion of voxels penetrated. A tomographic experiment is implemented using GPS data from the Hong Kong Satellite Positioning Reference Station Network. Compared to the traditional method, the proposed method increases the number of voxels crossed by signal rays and the utilization of the observed data by 15.14% and 19.68% on average, respectively. Numerical results, including comparisons of slant water vapor (SWV), precipitable water vapor (PWV), and water vapor density profile, show that the proposed method is better than traditional methods. In comparison to the water vapor density profile, the root-mean-square error (RMS), mean absolute error (MAE), standard deviation (SD), and bias of the proposed method are 1.39, 1.07, 1.30, and −0.21 gm−3, respectively. For the SWV and PWV comparison, the RMS/MAE of the proposed method are 10.46/8.17 mm and 4.00/3.39 mm, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The delays of radio signals transmitted by global navigation satellite system (GNSS) satellites and induced by neutral atmosphere, which are usually represented by zenith tropospheric delay (ZTD), are required as critical information both for GNSS positioning and navigation and GNSS meteorology. Establishing a stable and reliable ZTD model is one of the interests in GNSS research. In this study, we proposed a regional ZTD model that makes full use of the ZTD calculated from regional GNSS data and the corresponding ZTD estimated by global pressure and temperature 3 (GPT3) model, adopting the artificial neutral network (ANN) to construct the correlation between ZTD derived from GPT3 and GNSS observations. The experiments in Hong Kong using Satellite Positioning Reference Station Network (SatRet) were conducted and three statistical values, i.e., bias, root mean square error (RMSE), and compound relative error (CRE) were adopted for our comparisons. Numerical results showed that the proposed model outperformed the parameter ZTD model (Saastamoinen model) and the empirical ZTD model (GPT3 model), with an approximately 56%/52% and 52%/37% RMSE improvement in the internal and external accuracy verification, respectively. Moreover, the proposed method effectively improved the systematic deviation of GPT3 model and achieved better ZTD estimation in both rainy and rainless conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) tomography can effectively sense the three-dimensional structure of tropospheric water vapor (WV) using the GNSS observations. Numerous studies have utilized a tomographic window to include more epochs of observations, which significantly increases the number of valid signals. However, considering the tomography grid limits, a massive number of valid signals inevitably exhibits linear dependence. This dependence makes it impossible to improve the rank score of the tomography coefficient matrix by blindly introducing a large number of valid rays. Furthermore, excessive valid signals may lead to a high condition number in the coefficient matrix (ill-condition problem), which causes unstable results using the GNSS-WV tomography. Considering these problems, we proposed an improved tomographic approach, which applies a refined tomographic window. It differs from the general tomographic window in that the window is refined to traverse the valid signals available 15 min before and after the target epoch while retaining only the linearly independent parts (characteristic signal). Compared to the conventional method, the proposed method can filter the characteristic signal, which increases the rank score of the coefficient matrix and improves the stability of the tomography model. In this paper, we used GNSS observations from the Hong Kong Satellite Positioning Reference Station Network (SatRef) to validate the performance of the proposed method over the day-of-year (DOY) periods of 130–132, 2019 and 146–148, 2019.
