The growing sophistication of Business Email Compromise (BEC) and spear phishing attacks poses significant challenges to organizations worldwide. The techniques featured in traditional spam and phishing detection are insufficient due to the tailored nature of modern BEC attacks as they often blend in with the regular benign traffic. Recent advances in machine learning, particularly in Natural Language Understanding (NLU), offer a promising avenue for combating such attacks but in a practical system, due to limitations such as data availability, operational costs, verdict explainability requirements or a need to robustly evolve the system, it is essential to combine multiple approaches together. We present CAPE, a comprehensive and efficient system for BEC detection that has been proven in a production environment for a period of over two years. Rather than being a single model, CAPE is a system that combines independent ML models and algorithms detecting BEC-related behaviors across various email modalities such as text, images, metadata and the email's communication context. This decomposition makes CAPE's verdicts naturally explainable. In the paper, we describe the design principles and constraints behind its architecture, as well as the challenges of model design, evaluation and adapting the system continuously through a Bayesian approach that combines limited data with domain knowledge. Furthermore, we elaborate on several specific behavioral detectors, such as those based on Transformer neural architectures.

The mechanisms underlying the enhancement of magnetic anisotropies (MAs) of Sm ions, owing to valence electrons at the Sm site and the screened nuclear charges of ligands, are clarified using a detailed analysis of crystal fields (CF). In order to investigate the finite-temperature magnetic properties, we developed an effective spin model for SmFe$_{12}X$ ($X$=H, B, C, and N) and SmFe$_{11}M$ ($M$=Ti, V, and Co), where the magnetic moments, CF parameters, and exchange fields were determined by first-principle calculations. Using this model, the MA constants and magnetization curves at finite temperatures were investigated using a recently introduced analytical method [T. Yoshioka, H. Tsuchiura, and P. Nov\'ak, Phys. Rev. B {\bf 102}, 184410 (2020)]. In SmFe$_{12}X$, the doped light elements $X$ are assumed to be at the $2b$ site, and in SmFe$_{11}M$, the substitution site of Fe is systematically investigated for all inequivalent $8f$, $8i$, and $8j$ sites. We found that the first-order MA constant $K_1$ is increased by a factor of about two when hydrogen is doped to the $2b$ site and when Fe is replaced by Ti or V at the $8j$ site, owing to the attraction of the prolate $4f$ electron cloud to the screened positive charges of the surrounding ligand ions. We found that when Fe is replaced by Co, the MA increases at all temperatures regardless of the substitution site. The substituted Co attracts electrons, which reduces the electron density in the region from the Sm site to the empty $2b$ site. This causes the $4f$ electron cloud at the Sm site to be fixed along the $c$-axis direction, which improves the MA. The calculated temperature dependence of $K_1(T)$ and $K_2(T)$ in SmFe$_{11}$Co qualitatively reproduces the experimental results in the case of Sm(Co$_x$Fe$_{1-x}$)$_{12}$ for $x$=0.1 and 0.07., Comment: Accepted for publication in Phys. Directly examining subcellular mechanics whilst avoiding excessive strain of a live cell requires the precise control of light stress on very small areas, which is fundamentally difficult. Here we use a glass nanopipet out of contact with the plasma membrane to both exert the stress on the cell and also accurately monitor cellular compression. This allows the mapping of cell stiffness at a lateral resolution finer than 100 nm. We calculate the stress a nanopipet exerts on a cell as the sum of the intrinsic pressure between the tip face and the plasma membrane plus its direct pressure on any glycocalyx, both evaluated from the gap size in terms of the ion current decrease. A survey of cell types confirms that an intracellular pressure of approximately 120 Pa begins to detach the plasma membrane from the cytoskeleton and reveals that the first 660 +/- 90 nm of compression of a neuron cell body is much softer than previous methods have been able to detect.

In this study, we investigate the finite-temperature magnetic properties of Sm2Fe17Nx (x = 0,3) using an effective spin model constructed based on the information obtained by first-principles calculations. We find that assuming the plausible trivalent Sm3+ configuration results in a model that can satisfactorily describe the magnetization curves of Sm2Fe17N3. By contrast, the model based on the divalent Sm2+ configuration is suitable to reproduce the magnetization curves of Sm2Fe17. These results expand the understanding of how electronic structure affects the magnetic properties of these compounds., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures. To investigate the magnetic properties of SmFe$_{12}$, we construct an effective spin model, where magnetic moments, crystal field (CF) parameters, and exchange fields at 0 K are determined by first principles. Finite temperature magnetic properties are investigated by using this model. We further develop an analytical method with strong mixing of states with different quantum number of angular momentum $J$ ($J$-mixing), which is caused by strong exchange field acting on spin component of 4$f$ electrons. Comparing our analytical results with those calculated by Boltzmann statistics, we clarify that the previous analytical studies for Sm transition metal compounds over-estimate the $J$-mixing effects. The present method enables us to make quantitative analysis of temperature dependence of magnetic anisotropy (MA) with high-reliability. The analytical method with model approximations reveals that the $J$-mixing caused by exchange field increases spin angular momentum, which enhances the absolute value of orbital angular momentum and MA constants via spin-orbit interaction. It is also clarified that these J-mixing effects remain even above room temperature. Magnetization of SmFe$_{12}$ shows peculiar field dependence known as first-order magnetization process (FOMP), where the magnetization shows an abrupt change at certain magnetic field. The result of the analysis shows that the origin of FOMP is attributed to competitive MA constants between positive $K_1$ and negative $K_2$. The sign of $K_{1(2)}$ appears due to an increase in CF potential denoted by the parameter $A_2^0\langle r^2\rangle$ ($A_4^0\langle r^4\rangle$) caused by hybridization between 3$d$-electrons of Fe on 8$i$ (8$j$) site and 5$d$ and 6$p$ valence electrons on Sm site. It is verified that the requirement for the appearance of FOMP is given as $-K_2

Using the recently developed method we calculate the crystal field parameters in yttrium and lutetium aluminum garnets doped with seven trivalent Kramers rare-earth ions. We then insert calculated parameters into the atomic-like Hamiltonian taking into account the electron-electron, spin-orbit and Zeeman interactions and determine the multiplet splitting by the crystal field as well as magnetic $\hat{g}$ tensors.
