One of the trends in collaborative learning is using mobile devices for supporting the process and products of collaboration, which has been forming the field of mobile-computer-supported collaborative learning (mCSCL). Although mobile devices have become valuable collaborative learning tools, evaluative evidence for their substantial contributions to collaborative learning is still scarce. The present meta-analysis, which included 48 peer-reviewed journal articles and doctoral dissertations written over a 16-year period (2000-2015) involving 5,294 participants, revealed that mCSCL has produced meaningful improvements for collaborative learning, with an overall mean effect size of 0.516. Moderator variables, such as domain subject, group size, teaching method, intervention duration, and reward method were related to different effect sizes. The results provided implications for future research and practice, such as suggestions on how to appropriately use the functionalities of mobile devices, how to best leverage mCSCL through effective group learning mechanisms, and what outcome variables should be included in future studies to fully elucidate the process and products of mCSCL.

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a common type of arrhythmia that is often clinically asymptomatic, which increases the risk of stroke significantly but can be prevented with anticoagulation. The photoplethysmogram (PPG) has recently attracted a lot of attention as a surrogate for electrocardiography (ECG) on atrial fibrillation (AFib) detection, with its out-of-hospital usability for rapid screening or long-term monitoring. Previous studies on AFib detection via PPG signals have achieved good results, but were short of intuitive criteria like ECG p-wave absence or not, especially while using interval randomness to detect AFib suffering from conjunction with premature contractions (PAC/PVC). In this study, we newly developed a PPG flux (pulse amplitude) and interval plots-based methodology, simply comprising an irregularity index threshold of 20 and regression error threshold of 0.06 for the precise automatic detection of AFib. The proposed method with automated detection on AFib shows a combined sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision of 1, 0.995, 0.995, and 0.952 across the 460 samples. Furthermore, the flux-interval plot configuration also acts as a very intuitive tool for visual reassessment to confirm the automatic detection of AFib by its distinctive plot pattern compared to other cardiac rhythms. The study demonstrated that exclusive 2 false-positive cases could be corrected after the reassessment. With the methodology’s background theory well established, the detection process automated and visualized, and the PPG sensors already extensively used, this technology is very user-friendly and convincing for promoted to in-house AFib diagnostics.

Background: Femoral neck fractures in older adult patients are a major concern and often necessitate surgical intervention. This study compared the clinical outcomes of 2 surgical techniques: the femoral neck system (FNS) and cannulated compression screws (CCSs). Methods: A total of 40 female patients (mean age 73.50 ± 11.55 years) with femoral neck fractures of Pauwels classification type II and receiving surgical fixation between 2020 and 2022 were enrolled. The patients were categorized into an FNS group (n = 12) or a CCS group (n = 28), and surgical duration, intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, and incidence of postoperative adverse events were analyzed. Results: No significant intergroup differences in demographic characteristics were discovered. The mean surgical duration for all patients was 52.88 ± 22.19 min, with no significant difference between the groups. However, the FNS group experienced significantly higher intraoperative blood loss (P = 0.002) and longer hospital stay (P = 0.023) than did the CCS group. The incidence of osteonecrosis was higher in the CCS group, whereas the incidence of nonunion or malunion was higher in the FNS group. The surgical method did not appear to be a significant risk factor. The main risk factor for revision surgery was longer duration until the first adverse event (P = 0.015). Conclusion: The FNS does not appear to provide superior surgical outcomes compared with CCSs in older adult women with Pauwels classification type II femoral neck fractures. A longer duration between surgical fixation and the first adverse event before stabilization of the fracture site may be a risk factor for revision surgery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) presents a promising approach for producing valuable chemicals and fuels, offering a dual benefit in terms of environmental preservation and the efficient utilization of carbon resources. In this work, we proposed a stepwise electrodeposition method to prepare Cu−Pb bimetallic heterojunction catalyst on polyaniline‐modified carbon paper (PANI‐CuPb‐x), where x is the electrodeposition times(min). Among the studied catalysts, the electrode electrodeposited for 2 min (PANI‐CuPb‐2) exhibited a remarkable performance during the electrocatalysis CO2 to multicarbon (C2+) products process, achieving a Faraday efficiency (FE) of 81.46 % and a partial current density of 15.41 mA cm−2 at −1.2 V (vs. RHE) in an H‐type cell. The detailed study demonstrated that introducing Pb could effectively improve the formation of COOH*inhibit hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Furthermore, the heterojunction structure in the catalysts facilitated C−C coupling of the generated C1 intermediate species, which enhanced the CO2 to C2+ reaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the present work, a ternary composite MoS2/soluble g-C3N4/CdS was synthesized using a facile one-pot hydrothermal reaction and conventional reflux reaction method. The composition, morphology, and properties of the ternary composite were characterized. The photocatalytic performance of the ternary composite was evaluated for hydrogen generation under LED lamp irradiation (450 nm < λ < 465 nm) with lactic acid (LA) used as a sacrificial reagent. The results demonstrated that the maximum hydrogen production reached 4869.6 μmol under the optimal hydrogen production conditions, including a composition of 20% soluble g-C3N4, 9% MoS2, a solution pH of 1, and an irradiation time of 6 hours. The corresponding hydrogen production rate for the ternary composite was calculated to be 8116 μmol g−1 h−1. Furthermore, a possible electron transfer mechanism of the ternary composite system was briefly explored. The interaction and synergistic effects between MoS2, soluble g-C3N4, and CdS in the ternary composite likely facilitate efficient electron transfer, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production. This study aimed to investigate the differences in the anti-oxidant capabilities and related gene expressions of six-month-old Hu sheep with different testis sizes. A total of 201 Hu ram lambs were fed up to 6 months in the same environment. Based on their testis weight and sperm count, 18 individuals were selected and divided into large (n = 9) and small (n = 9) groups, with an average testis weight of 158.67 g ± 5.21 g and 44.58 g ± 4.14 g, respectively. The total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration in testis tissue were tested. The localization of antioxidant-related genes, GPX3 and Cu/ZnSOD in testis were detected by immunohistochemistry. The GPX3, Cu/ZnSOD expression, and relative mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number were detected by quantitative real-time PCR. Compared with the small group, the T-AOC (2.69 ± 0.47 vs. 1.16 ± 0.22 U/mgprot) and T-SOD (22.35 ± 2.59 vs. 9.92 ± 1.62 U/mgprot) in the large group were significantly higher, whereas the MDA (0.72 ± 0.13 vs. 1.34 ± 0.17 nM/mgprot) and relative mtDNA copy number in the large group was significantly lower (p <.05). Immunohistochemistry results indicated that the GPX3 and Cu/ZnSOD were expressed in Leydig cells and seminiferous tubule. The expressions of GPX3 and Cu/ZnSOD mRNA in the large group were significantly higher than those in the small group (p <.05). In conclusion, Cu/ZnSOD and GPX3 widely expressed in the Leydig cells and seminiferous tubule, high expression of Cu/ZnSOD and GPX3 in a large group has a higher potential in addressing oxidative stress and contribute to spermatogenesis. Past studies of sentiment analysis have mainly applied algorithms based on vocabulary categories and emotional characteristics to detect the emotionality of text. However, the collocation of state-changing words and emotional vocabulary affects emotions. For example, adverbs of degree strengthen emotions, and negative adverbs reverse emotions. This study investigated the weighted effect of state-changing words on emotion. The research material comprised 73 state-changing words that were collocated with four emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, and anger. A total of 84 participants participated in the vocabulary assessment. The results revealed that state-changing words could be classified into four types: intensifying, weakening, neutralizing, and reversing. In a comparison of the weighting factors among emotions, the weighting effect of the same state-changing word in the positive emotion category was particularly evident. Mega land reclamation projects have been carried out on the coral reefs in the South China Sea. Coral sand was used as a backfill material through hydraulic filling, with fill heights ranging from 6 to 10 m. To enhance foundation stability, vibro-flotation and impact rolling have been employed. However, the uneven distribution of coral sand, irregular particle shape, lower single-particle strength, and paucity of engineering cases for reference have posed challenges in evaluating the effectiveness of these foundation treatments. In this study, the effectiveness of vibro-flotation and impact rolling on the densification and bearing capacity of coral sand foundations has been investigated. In situ tests, including the plate load test, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test, density measurements, dynamic penetration test (DPT), and settlement monitoring, were conducted at four distinct zones: an untreated zone, a vibro-flotation zone at a 5 m depth, a vibro-flotation zone at a 10 m depth, and an impact rolling zone. The findings suggest that coral sand exhibits promising characteristics for foundation construction. Seepage and self-weight consolidation following land reclamation formation significantly enhance the compaction degree of the coral sand foundation, thereby meeting the requirements for areas with lower bearing capacity demands. Both vibro-flotation and impact rolling techniques could significantly enhance the foundation-bearing capacity, with marginal differences between them. Since the machinery is simple and construction speed is quick, the impact rolling method is considered to be the most efficient for the treatment of coral sand foundation. The DPT results suggest that the reinforcement effect of both vibro-flotation and impact rolling on the deep foundation is not as substantial as the surface layers. The accuracy of Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) sequencing has significantly improved thanks to new flowcells, sequencing kits, and basecalling algorithms. However, novel modification types untrained in the basecalling models can seriously reduce the quality. Here we reports a set of ONT-sequenced genomes with unexpected low quality due to novel modification types. Demodification by whole-genome amplification significantly improved the quality but lost the epigenome. We also developed a reference-based method, Modpolish, for correcting modification-mediated errors while retaining the epigenome when a sufficient number of closely-related genomes is publicly available (default: top 20 genomes with at least 95% identity). Modpolish not only significantly improved the quality of in-house sequenced genomes but also public datasets sequenced by R9.4 and R10.4 (simplex). Our results suggested that novel modifications are prone to ONT systematic errors. Nevertheless, these errors are correctable by nucleotide demodification or Modpolish without prior knowledge of modifications. The authors report excessive amounts of modification-mediated errors in Listeria strains during Nanopore sequencing that are due to novel modifications that were untrained in the Nanopore basecalling model. A few people have discussed the integration of teaching methods and curriculum design. the difficulties of teaching practice, and the assessment of the approach. This study aims to explore. The impact of the integration on students' leaning satisfaction, problem-solving ability, and interest in taking further AI courses. Participating students were divided into an experimental group with 101 students and a control group with 99 students. MANCOVA statistics were used to analysis the data collected related to academic achievement. The results showed that the scores of students in all aspects examined with the curriculum integration of Al. Machine Learning. and Big Data were significantly higher than those of the control group.
