This article presents a comprehensive review of the current landscape and prospects of large-scale hydrogen storage technologies, with a focus on both onshore and offshore applications, and flexibility. Highlighting the evolving technological advancements, it explores storage and compression techniques, identifying potential research directions and avenues for innovation. Underwater hydrogen storage and hybrid metal hydride compressed gas tanks have been identified for offshore buffer storage, as well as exploration of using metal hydride slurries to transport hydrogen to/from offshore wind farms, coupled with low pressure, high flexibility electrolyser banks. Additionally, it explores the role of metal hydride hydrogen compressors and the integration of oxyfuel processes to enhance roundtrip efficiency. With insights into cost-effectiveness, environmental and technology considerations, and geographical factors, this review offers insights for policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders aiming to advance the deployment of large-scale hydrogen storage systems in the transition towards sustainable energy. The paper describes a new method for determining the energy efficiency of the life cycles of wind farms by the aggregated data of energy costs. The rationale for the use of aggregated data to determine energy costs during the life cycle of the wind farms is given. The classification of wind turbines and wind farms elements by the parameters and technical characteristics of the elements with subsequent division into groups for which aggregated data of energy costs are determined is given. Within the framework of the method have been developed an algorithm for determining energy costs on the production of elements of wind turbines and wind farms and formulas for their calculation during the life cycle of wind farms. In order to test the method, energy cost was calculated during the life cycle for two wind farms with wind turbines that differ parameters and technical characteristics of the elements and their energy efficiency was determined. It has been shown that the use of a hydrogen storage unit as part of a wind turbine makes it possible to efficiently use energy during down periods and increase the efficiency of the installation by 25–30%. It is noteworthy that a wind-hydrogen farm allows not only to accumulate excess energy during lean periods, but also to save the resource of wind turbines. When the energy reserve in the hydrogen battery reaches close to full, part of the wind turbines of the wind-hydrogen farm can be automatically temporarily stopped in a given order. In response to the rapidly changing industry caused by climate change, the Korean government has set a goal of supplying 3 million tons of green hydrogen by 2050. This study aims to determine the leveled cost of hydrogen (LCOH) resulting from floating offshore wind power generation. Initially, we created a numerical model to represent the power curve for large-capacity offshore wind power generation. Additionally, we accounted for the variability in electrolytic cell efficiency by modeling predictions based on real PEMEC parameters using the Aspen Custom Model. The power-hydrogen quantity was then predicted using Aspen Plus. A comparison is also made regarding the transportation of gaseous hydrogen and liquid hydrogen. Gaseous hydrogen is produced through pipelines, while liquid hydrogen is produced using a modified Claude cycle and transported via trucks. Finally, a Techno-economic analysis was conducted, considering the net present value (NPV) derived from capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenditure (OPEX) throughout the entire process. The analysis of LCOH indicated that the most economically viable option for the region with the lowest LCOH per kg is the supply of liquid hydrogen, priced at $11.04/kgH 2. Our sensitivity analysis also reveals that while liquid hydrogen is more cost-effective at up to 250 MW, gaseous hydrogen becomes cheaper as its scale exceeds 500 MW because of its greater sensitivity to production volume. • Developed a new model that integrates real-time wind data for optimizing hydrogen production from offshore wind power. • LNG cold heat recovery significantly reduced the cost of liquefied hydrogen obtained from floating offshore wind farms. • Sensitivity analysis shows that liquid hydrogen is more cost-effective up to 250 MW while gaseous hydrogen is cheaper above 500 MW. Suction caissons are being widely employed as a reliable and economic foundation to offshore wind farm. Previous studies are inconclusive in soil microstructural evolution around soil–structure. This article describes a half-caisson subjected lateral cyclic loading with the macro photography device (MPD). The microstructural probability entropy and corresponding quantification criterion are introduced to examine the effects of grain size distribution, grain orientation on monotonic, and post-cyclic moment capacities of suction caissons. The image-based results provide evidence of significant particle rearrangement occurred adjacent to the caisson wall. The variations of the grain size entropy and the orientation entropy with cycles were obviously affected by loading amplitudes, sand gradations, and position of the caisson interface, but less dependent with the loading frequency. Experimental results reveal the dominance of the grain size entropy over the moment capacity of suction caissons under different loading characteristics and sand samples. The Wind Farms (WFs) are located far away from the load centres, with the resultant equivalent reactance being more than near the load. It results in a weak grid due to high power transferred in the transmission lines that affect the low frequency of oscillations, and the system exists with undamped functions. The transmission line has to be compensated to transmit wind power effectively. The Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) connects WF and the load centre. This work demonstrates a Power Oscillation Damper (POD) to WFs and SSSC for transmission lines and their combination. The eigenvalue of the damping ratio and frequency of oscillations are considered objective functions for particle swarm optimization and formulated based on stability to optimize the controller parameter for improving stability. The coordination between the POD and SSSC has been conducted using a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) to further enhance system performance. The small signal and transient stability examinations use eigenvalue analysis and time-domain simulation. It is analysed by varying the length (km) of the transmission line between the WF and the load centre, along with variation in wind penetration. The study observed that small signal stability damped the oscillatory modes most effectively. It is also revealed that the controller's combination with FLC intensifies the capability under extreme disturbances and detects an improvement in the system's transient stability. The proposed approaches' effectiveness is evaluated on an IEEE-11 bus two-area test system with optimized controller gain parameters and controller coordinated FLC through a Real-Time Digital Simulator. In a wind farm, the grounding circuit is a complex electrical system made up of several interconnected groundings. Its role is very important for the protection of the electrical equipment during a direct lightning strike. To contribute to the optimization of the conception of this complex grounding system in his real configuration (wind turbine towers, grounding grids, and several hundred meters of buried conductor wires ...), we propose in this paper a realistic modeling. Realistic because, to model in all rigors using an electromagnetic field formalism a problem of propagation of electromagnetic transients in electrical device of large geometrical dimensions where the main environment (soil) is not homogeneous does not bring an appreciable advantage and consumes a very high calculation time. Also, the ideal for the engineer is to have a model that is easy to understand, accessible in its theory and obviously preserving the accuracy of the results and with very low computation time. In this work, to study the lightning surges in a wind farm, mainly to know the Ground Potential Rise and the distribution of the currents in the conductors, we use a modeling based on the transmission line equations. Our modeling is carried out by considering the effect of the frequency on the electrical characteristics (resistivity and dielectric permittivity) of the soil; the results we obtain are without loss of precision and with a very short calculation time. Determining flight heights for seabirds is a crucial prerequisite for understanding collision risks associated with offshore wind farms and other human made infrastructure, but obtaining accurate and precise estimates of flight height distributions from observational data remains a challenge. Humphries et al. (Mar Biol 170:1–16, 2023) propose a workflow to determine flight heights of seabirds from digital aerial video images using single-camera photogrammetry. However, their workflow does not adequately consider the impact of uncertainty about seabird body sizes on individual flight height estimates. As a result the proposed method substantially underestimates the uncertainty of individual flight height estimates and yields biased estimates of both the proportion of birds at collision height, and average flight heights. The validation of the proposed method is insufficient and therefore unable to identify or quantify these shortcomings. Based on a review of seabird biometrics, we further argue that even when uncertainty in seabird body size is correctly propagated, the accuracy and precision of flight height estimates from single-camera photogrammetry data is fundamentally limited by the large natural body size variation of seabirds. Digital aerial surveys are an important observational tool to survey marine bird populations, but the workflow proposed by Humphries et al. (2023) for flight height estimation from single-camera digital aerial survey data is biased and does not sufficiently account for uncertainty, and we strongly advise against its use in the current form, for offshore development assessments. The occurrence of Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR) phenomena can be attributed to the interaction that takes place between wind turbine generators and series-compensated transmission lines. The Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is widely recognized as a prevalent generator form employed in wind energy conversion systems. The present paper commences with an extensive exposition on modal analysis techniques employed in a series of compensated wind farms featuring Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIGs). The system model encompasses various components, including the aerodynamics of a wind turbine, an induction generator characterized by a sixth-order model, a secondorder two-mass shaft system, a series compensated transmission line described by a fourth-order model, controllers for the Rotor-Side Converter (RSC) and the Grid-Side Converter (GSC) represented by an eighth-order model, and a first-order DC-link model. The technique of eigenvalue-based SSR analysis is extensively utilized in various academic and research domains. The eigenvalue technique depends on the initial conditions of state variables to yield an accurate outcome. The non-iterative approach, previously employed for the computation of initial values of the state variables, has exhibited issues with convergence, lack of accuracy, and excessive computational time. The comparative study evaluates the time-domain simulation outcomes under different wind speeds and compensation levels, along side the eigenvalue analysis conducted using both the suggested and non-iterative methods. This comparative analysis is conducted to illustrate the proposed approach efficacy and precision. The results indicate that the eigenvalue analysis conducted using the proposed technique exhibits more accuracy, as it aligns with the findings of the simulations across all of the investigated instances. The process of validation is executed with the MATLAB program. Within the context of the investigation, it has been found that increasing compensation levels while simultaneously decreasing wind speed leads to system instability. This article discusses three scenarios for the transformation of the Polish power system leading to the achievement of climate neutrality through investment in renewable energy sources. The scenarios differ in terms of the role played by the selected energy technologies. The scenarios were developed using the balancing tool, the Simulator Polish Power System, which analyzed the development of the national power system in terms of optimal costs of achieving climate neutrality and the lowest possible price of electricity generation. The research shows that under Polish climatic conditions, 100% RES energy can be achieved in the balance, but ensuring the continuity of energy supply, which in future will be generated mainly from this type of source, requires the participation of controllable sources such as gas-fired power plants powered by biomethane and energy storage facilities. The scenarios assume balancing RES sources with 15–25 GW of available gas sources and 40 GWh in electricity storage. The article also discusses factors limiting the suggested scenarios, such as the availability of sustainable biomethane in Poland or limitations associated with the possibility of building onshore and offshore wind turbines. This research examines the risk of natural disasters for offshore wind turbines together with their potential wind energy capacity to help the site selection of offshore wind power farms. Through evaluations of expert questionnaires, we use the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to weight how natural disasters damage the sub-assemblies of an offshore wind turbine, then obtain the natural disaster risk assessment model, and finally utilize ArcGIS Pro 3.2 to map the potential wind farm sites for the waters off Taiwan's west coast. We identify that typhoons are the most threatening type of disaster to generators, rotor blades, and rotor hubs; earthquakes are the most threatening to towers; and lightning is the most threatening to transformers. For the whole wind turbine, wind is ironically the most threatening natural disaster, followed by lightning, sea waves, and then earthquakes. Lastly, we examine the results by overlapping the offshore wind farms developed and planned in Taiwan, which coincide with locations in relatively low risk and high wind speed areas. With global shifts towards sustainable energy models, the urgency to address rising fossil fuel prices, military conflicts, and climate change concerns has become evident. The article aims to identify the development of wind energy in Poland. This study introduces an integrated methodology for enhancing renewable energy capacities by selecting new construction sites for onshore wind farms across Poland. The proposed methodology utilises a hybrid model incorporating multiple criteria decision-making methods, such as the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), alongside the semiautomated spatial analysis method using QGiS software (v. 3.32 Lima). The model considers economic, social, and environmental criteria and limitations, offering a comprehensive approach to the decision-making process. It was found that wind farms occupy 460.7 km2 in Poland, with a 250 m buffer around each turbine and a total power capacity of 5818 MW. The results show that an additional 7555.91 km2 of selected areas, 2.34% of the country's area, theoretically offer significant opportunities for wind energy development. The spatial analysis identifies potential sites with promising opportunities for domestic and international renewable energy investors. The study's findings contribute towards achieving national and EU renewable energy targets while offering a replicable framework for informed spatial planning decisions in other regions. This paper investigates grid export constraints applicable to photovoltaic (PV) and wind farm (WF) installations, both with and without behind-the-meter storage, aimed at enhancing grid hosting capacity. The study focuses on static output power limitations, i.e., simple export constraints that are preventively imposed on renewable energy source (RES) plants regardless of the prevailing network congestion conditions. These constraints are easy to apply, implemented ex ante and out of market, and do not require additional investments in energy storage or advanced devices. They also yield a measurable increase in hosting capacity and grid utilization, with their impact on RES plant operation and return of investment straightforwardly calculable. Analysis defines the level and shape of these constraints assuming an indicative acceptable curtailment level of 5% for each RES technology attributed to the preventing action of the imposed limitations, while the respective implications for RES energy yield and investment viability are explored. The findings indicate that an export power limitation of ca. 68% is effective for stand-alone PVs, while a stepwise static limitation is necessary for stand-alone WFs and WFs with integrated storage to manage midday solar generation peaks. PV plants tightly coupled with storage facilities can handle static limitations as low as 35% with minimal impact on the economic feasibility of the investments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The integration of renewable energy sources into power systems has increased significantly in recent years. Among various types of renewable energy, the use of wind energy is growing rapidly due to its low operating cost, wide distribution worldwide, and no greenhouse gas emissions. However, power systems integrated with wind energy may face stability and reliability issues due to the intermittent nature of wind power. Therefore, in power systems connected to wind farms, it is usually required to use some compensators such as static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) to increase the system performance under abnormal conditions. On the other hand, for an SSSC to be effective in improving the system performance, it must be equipped with a suitable controller. In this paper, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is used for the SSSC because of its advantages over conventional controllers. Extensive research has been conducted in power systems with wind turbines in which SSSC or FLC has been used; however, their simultaneous application in such systems has received less attention. Therefore, this article aims to fill this gap. The proposed method is implemented on two power systems and the simulation results are analyzed. In both systems, the dynamic behavior of three different wind farms is examined. In the first and second wind farms, either a squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG) or doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) are used, whereas in the third one which is a combined wind farm (CWF), an equal number of SCIG and DFIG are employed. In wind farms with SCIG or DFIG, an SSSC is also utilized. Furthermore, an FLC is employed for the SSSC to improve its efficacy. A proportional integral (PI) controller is also considered for the SSSC, and its results are compared with FLC results. The simulation results confirm the superiority of FLC over PI controller. As global demand for offshore wind energy continues to rise, the imperative to enhance the profitability of wind power projects and reduce their operational costs becomes increasingly urgent. This study proposes an innovative approach to optimize the inspection routes of offshore wind farms, which integrates the K-means clustering algorithm and genetic algorithm (GA). In this paper, the inspection route planning problem is formulated as a multiple traveling salesman problem (mTSP), and the advantages of the K-means clustering algorithm in distance similarity are utilized to effectively group the positions of wind turbines, thereby optimizing the inspection schedule for vessels. Subsequently, by harnessing the powerful optimization capability and robustness of genetic algorithms, further refinement is conducted to search for the optimal inspection routes, aiming to achieve cost reduction objectives. The results of simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of this integrated approach. Compared to traditional genetic algorithms, the inspection route length has been significantly reduced, from 93 kilometers to 79.36 kilometers. Simultaneously, operational costs have also experienced a notable decrease, dropping from 141,500 Chinese Yuan to 125,600 Chinese Yuan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of offshore wind farms requires robust bonding solutions that can withstand harsh marine conditions for the easy integration of secondary structures. This paper investigates the durability performance of two adhesives: Sikadur 30 epoxy resin and Loctite UK 1351 B25 urethane-based adhesive for use in offshore wind environments. Tensile tests on adhesive samples and accelerated aging tests were carried out under a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions, including both dry and wet conditions. The long-term effects of aging on adhesive integrity are investigated by simulating the operational life of offshore installations. The evolution of mechanical properties, studied under accelerated aging conditions, provides an important indication of the longevity of structures under normal conditions. The results show significant differences in performance between the two adhesives, highlighting their suitability for specific operating parameters. It should also be noted that for both adhesives, their exposure to different environments (seawater, distilled water, humid climate) over a prolonged period showed that (i) Loctite adhesive has a slightly faster initial uptake than Sikadur adhesive, but the latter reaches an asymptotic plateau with a lower maximum absorption rate than Loctite adhesive; and (ii) a progressive deterioration in the tensile properties occurred following an exponential function. Therefore, aging behavior results showed a clear correlation with the Arrhenius law, providing a predictive tool for the aging process and the aging process of the two adhesives followed Arrhenius kinetics. Ultimately, the knowledge gained from this study is intended to inform best practice in the use of adhesives, thereby improving the reliability and sustainability of the offshore renewable energy infrastructure. A rapid development of marine infrastructures can be observed along the global coasts. Offshore wind farms, oil and gas platforms, artificial islands, aquaculture, and more, are being constructed without a proper quantification of these human activities. Therefore, effective monitoring is required to maintain transparency towards environmental standards, marine resource management, inventorying objects, and global security. This study reviews remote sensing-based approaches to offshore infrastructure detection over the past 12 years. We analyzed 89 studies from over 30 scientific journals, highlighting spatial and temporal trends, methodological approaches, and regional and thematic research foci. Our results show a significant increase in research interest, especially since 2019. Asia, and especially China, is the predominant focus region in terms of first authorship, funding, and areas of investigation. Aquaculture is the most studied infrastructure, followed by platforms, offshore wind farms, and artificial islands. Gaofen, Sentinel, and Landsat are the most used satellite sensors for detection. The apparent shift towards automated detection methods, especially Deep Learning algorithms, reflects advances in computer vision. This study highlights the key role of earth observation in the field of off-shore infrastructure detection, which can contribute towards outlining effective monitoring practices for marine activities, as well as highlighting important knowledge gaps. Offshore wind power has attracted significant attention due to its high potential, capability for large-scale farms, and high capacity factor. However, it faces high investment costs and issues with subsea power transmission. Conventional high-voltage AC (HVAC) methods are limited by charging current, while high-voltage DC (HVDC) methods suffer from the high cost of power conversion stations. The low-frequency AC (LFAC) method mitigates the charging current through low-frequency operation and can reduce power conversion station costs. This paper aims to identify the economically optimal frequency by comparing the investment costs of LFAC systems at various frequencies. The components of LFAC, including transformers, offshore platforms, and cables, exhibit frequency-dependent characteristics. Lower frequencies result in an increased size and volume of transformers, leading to higher investment costs for offshore platforms. In contrast, cable charging currents and losses are proportional to frequency, causing the total cost to reach a minimum at a specific frequency. The Industrial Metrology Business Unit of Nikon Corporation, on behalf of ScottishPower Renewables and Maritime Archaeology (MA), Southampton, UK, has employed X-ray CT (computed tomography) to visualise the internal structure of an anchor found in the North Sea. The non-destructive method of internal inspection and measurement has helped to determine approximately when it was made. The results indicate that the artefact, initially thought to be potentially Roman, is probably more recent, likely dating to between the late 16th and early 17th centuries CE. This paper presents the discovery, recovery, analysis and interpretation of a significant find from a UK offshore wind farm and underscores the valuable role that non-destructive X-ray CT played in the investigation. Wind energy in the atmospheric boundary layer serves as the primary source for energy absorption and structural load on wind turbines. However, the impact of turbulent coherent structures on the aerodynamic performance and wake characteristics of wind turbines has not been comprehensively evaluated. In this study, the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method is employed to assess the influence of turbulent coherent structures of varying scales on the aerodynamic performance and wake characteristics of wind turbines in the neutral atmospheric boundary layer. The results show that turbulent coherent structures are the main factor that determines the wind velocity fluctuation, aerodynamic performance and wake characteristics of wind turbine in the atmospheric boundary layer. When considering the 13th or lower order POD mode, the wind velocity fluctuation increases with the increase of energy content (more POD modes) of the turbulent coherent structures. When considering the first 19 POD modes, the dynamic loads and power of wind turbine fluctuate with high frequencies, the thrust fluctuates in an amplitude range between 2.4 % and 13.9 % around the mean value, and the power fluctuates from 4.5 % to 28.6 % of the mean value. When considering the first 40 POD modes, the average power generation of the wind turbine increases by 26 % compared to the case with no turbulent structures considered. The study of turbine wake shows that turbulent coherent structures can expand the wind turbine wake approximately to a width of 2.5 D and a height of 3 D (D is the diameter of the wind turbine), offset the wake approximately to 2 D , and move forward the position of the wake vortex beginning to dissipation approximately to 7 D behind the wind turbine. In addition, turbulent coherent structures can accelerate the wake velocity recovery by increasing the momentum exchange between the atmospheric boundary layer and wind turbine wake. • A POD-based inflow generation method is established for wind turbine simulation. • Study into the coherent structures with various energy contributions on wind turbine performance. • Obtained the most influence energy contribution of coherent structures in the ABL. • Unveil the influence of coherent structures on the expansion and deflection of wind turbine wakes. In recent decades, research on renewable energy has been boosted by the emerging awareness of energy security and climate change and their consequences, such as the global cost of adapting to the climate impacts. Both onshore and offshore wind turbine farms have been considered as one of the main alternatives to fossil fuels. Their development currently involves seismic-prone areas, such as the Californian coastline and East Asia, where the risk of soil liquefaction is significant. Onshore wind turbines (OWTs) typically are founded on shallow rafts. Their operation can be affected strongly by the simultaneous presence of intense earthquakes and wind thrust, which may cause remarkable permanent tilting and loss of serviceability. In these conditions, accurate evaluation of the seismic performance of these structures requires the development of well-validated numerical tools capable of capturing the cyclic soil behavior and the build-up and contextual dissipation of seismic-induced pore-water pressures. In this paper, a numerical model developed in OpenSees, calibrated against the results of dynamic centrifuge tests, was used to evaluate the influence of some ground motion intensity Measures of the seismic behavior of OWTs included the amplitude, frequency content, strong-motion duration, and Arias intensity (energy content) of the earthquake, together with the effect of a coseismal wind thrust, which is not well explored in the literature. The seismic performance of an OWT was assessed in terms of peak and permanent settlement and tilting, the latter of which was compared with the threshold of 0.5° typically adopted in practice. This study aims to conduct resource assessments at five offshore locations (L1–L5) in the Gulf of South Suez for possible development of wind farms. For this purpose, the hourly mean wind speed and direction data at 100 m above mean sea level (AMSL) and other meteorological data at near water surface from ERA5 (fifth-generation reanalysis for the global climate weather) is used. Statistical analyses, wind power, energy estimation, plant capacity factor, etc., have been performed using Windographer software. The cost of energy and greenhouse gas emissions are conducted based on international installation cost per kW and emissions factor per kWh from the literature. The data covers 43 years, between 1979 and 2021. The results show that at L1 to L5 locations, the long-term mean wind speed (WS) and wind power density (WPD) values are 8.678 m/s and 533 W/m2, 4.371 m/s and 78 W/m2, 8.917 m/s and 587 W/m2, 7.856 m/s and 406 W/m2, 8.072 m/s and 453 W/m2, and 7.876 m/s and 406 W/m2 at 100 m ASL, respectively. Based on the site-specific parameters (WS, WPD, WPC, MWVI, MWSI, AWVI, AWSI, minimum zero power, maximum rated power, PCF, COE, and maximum wind duration), values of 8.917 m/s, 587 W/m2, 1.125, 34.92, 0.358, 101.9, 6.26%, 5.76%, 54.04%, 0.007 USD/kWh, and 91%; L2 are identified as the most relevant area for wind farm development among the studied locations. In this paper, a simplified model of voltage source converter-based high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) link is proposed that is effective in the analysis of multi-machine systems, even when crucial applications of the link are involved. The model is derived by eliminating the DC dynamics, including the converter-related impedances as a part of the AC system transmission network and obtaining the converter currents in a straightforward manner. Case studies are conducted on 4-machine, 10-bus and 16-machine, 68-bus systems to prove the accuracy of the model. The study clearly indicates the model's ability to reproduce the influence of VSC controllers, impact of variable power levels and effects of multiple HVDC links in a system. It is further verified for significant VSC-HVDC applications. The model is effective at handling frequency support of asynchronous systems and can be applied to VSC-HVDC connected offshore wind farms feeding multi-machine systems. It is demonstrated that the proposed model can be efficiently used for analysis of large AC systems embedded with VSC-HVDC links with lesser modeling complexity and computation time. For achieving carbon neutrality, increased renewable power generation is an emerging trend. Renewable power, often transmitted via VSC-HVDC, is variable, intermittent and could not contribute to grid inertia directly. Thus, quick restoration of system frequency should be prioritized, for which encapsulation of frequency regulators inside converter controllers is often suggested. Most of the reported frequency regulation schemes are only suited for converters carrying power below rated limits. The novelty of present work lies in its ability to regulate frequency by delivering power support above rated limits. In fact, by exploiting primary frequency reserves available at the other end and by efficiently utilizing converter's entire permissible operating region, frequency can be restored quickly within acceptable range. This can have significant implication for extracting frequency support from offshore wind farms coupled via VSC-HVDC. The proposed technique, based on dynamic converter current modulation, renders significant active power support depending upon severity of encountered frequency excursion. Its performance is justified by testing it by introducing disturbances of different magnitudes in an IEEE 14-bus system. Interestingly, the simulation results obtained using MATLAB/Simulink have confirmed that by employing proposed scheme, for a 22% load/generation unbalance, VSC can arrest frequency nadir within one second by delivering nearly 30% above rated converter power. The Iberian harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena meridionalis) population faces unique challenges, characterized by low population size and limited genetic diversity, underscoring the urgency of conservation efforts. However, a dearth of ecological information on this population hampers targeted conservation measures. This study addresses this knowledge gap by assessing the environmental and anthropogenic factors influencing the habitat use of Iberian harbour porpoises. Utilizing data collected from 195 daily boat surveys spanning 8 years along the north-western coast of Spain, we observed 287 harbour porpoise groups comprising 1383 individuals. Our analysis revealed a wide distribution of harbour porpoises along the continental shelf of the north-western Iberian Peninsula. Notably, this species exhibited a preference for areas characterized by high productivity, influenced by seasonal coastal upwelling phenomena and tidal flow. Our results emphasize the positive correlation between the presence of fishing boats and porpoise habitat use, highlighting the risks associated with bycatch in gear such as bottom-set gillnets and trammel nets, and the need for comprehensive mitigation measures. Additionally, our findings underscore the necessity for comprehensive conservation strategies to address risks associated with marine traffic and habitat alteration due to the expanding development of offshore wind farms in the region. This research also establishes a baseline for future environmental monitoring programs, contributing to the long-term conservation and management of the Iberian harbour porpoise population. Formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) in its α‐phase is among the most desirable perovskite compositions for solar cells. However, because of its transition into the yellow δ‐phase at room temperature, it is a challenge to process it in ambient air by scalable fabrication methods. Here the introduction of a trace amount of cadmium (in the form of CdI2) to FAPbI3 is reported and found that it enhances the stability of the perovskite's black α‐phase polymorph, inhibits non‐radiative recombination events, leads to pin‐hole free compact surface morphology, and improves band energy alignment. The 0.6% Cd‐doped FAPbI3 solar cells show a champion efficiency of 22.7% for 0.049 cm2 and 16.4% for cm2‐scale pixels, which, to the best of the knowledge, are among the highest for air‐ambient fully blade‐coated pure FAPbI3 solar cells with an n‐i‐p architecture. Transient absorption microscopy measurements reveal that Cd doping reduces the number of trapped charges and increases their lifetimes, promoting charge accumulation and a higher photovoltage. In large-scale wind farms, the voltage fluctuations caused by the uncertainty of wind speed at the turbine terminals pose a pressing challenge. This article presents a localized voltage control strategy tailored toward rapid adjustments in turbine terminal voltage in wind turbine generators. Based on relative voltage observation, this strategy achieves voltage coordination between the high and low ends of the transformer in wind turbine generators. Firstly, the overall structure of the wind farm and the characteristics of terminal voltage are analyzed. Secondly, the principles and feasibility of the relative voltage control strategy are examined. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is validated through simulation results from a specific wind farm. The results demonstrate its capability to achieve a fast and stable voltage dynamic response within the wind farm based on local information, thus mitigating the risk of voltage out of limit. The development of green technology in the world is progressing extremely rapidly. New possibilities for obtaining energy from renewable sources are constantly being sought and existing solutions are being improved. The multifaceted potential of the seas and oceans is an important aspect being taken into account in the development of the energy systems of a number of economies. One dimension of action in this area is the orientation towards offshore wind energy and the construction of offshore wind farms for this purpose. The purpose of this article is to analyse the importance of offshore wind farms in Poland's energy system and to assess public perception of the changes taking place in this dimension. The article is based on research and critical analysis of the available literature, legal regulations and industry reports, as well as on the results of our own surveys, the scientific findings of which were developed with the application of statistical instruments using PQstat software, ensuring the expected quality of results. The findings of the article indicate the significant importance of offshore wind farms in the creation of Poland's energy mix, with differing public attitudes towards their construction. Furthermore, the results of the research indicate a differentiated attitude of society towards the construction of offshore wind farms. The main motivation for majority support of the measure in question are economic reasons, which are connected with the expectation of a real price reduction per 1 kW of energy, as well as increased attractiveness of the region due to investments in this area. The main concern with the measure relates to environmental aspects, with concerns about the functioning of ecosystems in light of the construction and subsequent operation of wind farms. Negative public opinion is also signalled in relation to the potential risk of landscape change in a direction that is undesirable for the studied developed coastal tourist region in Poland. In recent trends, a rising demand for renewable energy has driven wind turbines to larger proportions, where lighter blade designs are often adopted to reduce the costs associated with logistics and production. This causes modern utility-scale wind turbine blades to be inherently more flexible, and their amplified aeroelastic sensitivity results in complex multi-physics reactions to variant atmospheric conditions, including dynamic patterns of aerodynamic loading at the rotor and vortex structure evolutions within the wake. In this paper, we analyze the influence of inflow variance for wind turbines with large, flexible rotors through simulations of the National Rotor Testbed (NRT) turbine, located at Sandia National Labs' Scaled Wind Farm Technology (SWiFT) facility in Lubbock, Texas. The Common Ordinary Differential Equation Framework (CODEF) modeling suite is used to simulate wind turbine aeroelastic oscillatory behavior and wind farm vortex wake interactions for a range of flexible NRT blade variations, operating in differing conditions of variant atmospheric flow. CODEF solutions of turbine operation in Steady-In-The-Average (SITA) wind conditions are compared to SITA wind conditions featuring a controlled gust-like pulse overimposed, to isolate the effects of typical wind fluctuations. Finally, simulations of realistic time-varying wind conditions from SWiFT meteorological tower measurements are compared to the solutions of SITA wind conditions. These increasingly complex atmospheric inflow variations are tested to show the differing effects evoked by various patterns of spatiotemporal atmospheric flow fluctuations. An analysis is presented for solutions of wind turbine aeroelastic response and vortex wake evolution, to elucidate the consequences of variant inflow, which pertain to wind turbine dynamics at an individual and farm-collective scale. The comparisons of simulated farm flow for SITA and measured fluctuating wind conditions show that certain regions of the wake contain up to a 12% difference in normalized axial velocity, due to the introduction of wind fluctuations. The findings of this study prove valuable for practical applications in wind farm control and optimization strategies, with particular significance for modern utility-scale wind power plants operating in variant atmospheric conditions. The global demand for renewable energy has resulted in a rapid expansion of offshore wind farms (OWFs) and increased attention to the ecological impacts of OWFs on the marine ecosystem. Previous reviews mainly focused on the OWFs' impacts on individual species like birds, bats, or mammals. This review collected numerous field-measured data and simulated results to summarize the ecological impacts on phytoplankton, zooplankton, zoobenthos, fishes, and mammals from each trophic level and also analyze their interactions in the marine food chain. Phytoplankton and zooplankton are positively or adversely affected by the 'wave effect', 'shading effect', oxygen depletion and predation pressure, leading to a ± 10% fluctuation of primary production. Although zoobenthos are threatened transiently by habitat destruction with a reduction of around 60% in biomass in the construction stage, their abundance exhibited an over 90% increase, dominated by sessile species, due to the 'reef effect' in the operation stage. Marine fishes and mammals are to endure the interferences of noise and electromagnetic, but they are also aggregated around OWFs by the 'reef effect' and 'reserve effect'. Furthermore, the complexity of marine ecosystem would increase with a promotion of the total system biomass by 40% through trophic cascade effects strengthen and resource partitioning alternation triggered by the proliferation of filter-feeders. The suitable site selection, long-term monitoring, and life-cycle-assessment of ecological impacts of OWFs that are lacking in current literature have been described in this review, as well as the carbon emission and deposition. The static stiffness of suction caisson foundations is an important engineering factor for offshore wind foundation design. However, existing simplified design models are mainly developed for nonlayered soil conditions, and their accuracy for layered soil conditions is uncertain. This creates a challenge for designing these foundations in offshore wind farm sites, where layered soil conditions are commonplace. To address this, this paper proposes a multifidelity data fusion approach that combines information from different physics-based models of varying accuracy, data sparsity, and computational costs in order to improve the accuracy of stiffness estimations for layered soil conditions. The results indicate that the proposed approach is more accurate than both the simplified design model and a single-fidelity machine learning model, even with limited training data. The energy produced from renewable sources (solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and biomass) provides direct access to clean and safe energy. Offshore wind energy, generated through wind farms, has traditionally relied on fixed structures, whereas innovative floating structures have been commercially applied since 2017. This study investigates offshore areas in Montenegro suitable for wind farm construction. Research on average annual wind speeds has successfully identified a surface area deemed suitable for constructing a wind farm in the Montenegrin part of the Adriatic Sea. Analysis of available bathymetric databases has pinpointed technical solutions for the supporting structures of wind turbines required to construct an offshore wind farm. Applying an assessment method to the defined surface of Montenegrin waters, seven blocks have been identified as suitable for wind farm construction. The research results indicate that wind farms can be built in Montenegrin waters with a technical potential corresponding to a total capacity of 2299.794 MW, which includes 2034.48 MW for floating structures, 126.759 MW for fixed structures, and 138.555 MW for jacket-fixed structures. In this paper, to explore the effects and mechanisms of the blended blade and end wall (BBEW) technique on corner separation control, two different BBEW configurations, including the side blended blade and end wall (S-BBEW) and full blended blade and end wall (F-BBEW), are studied and compared through experimental and numerical analyses. First, for a linear cascade, the S-BBEW and F-BBEW designs are carefully built. Then, both numerical simulations and experiments are conducted for each design, demonstrating a significant reduction in the loss coefficient. The results indicate that the S-BBEW is effective in the control of boundary layer development and delays the initial point of separation, especially at the design working condition. Moreover, the F-BBEW design nearly eliminates the corner separation by the control of both boundary layer development and secondary flow, which provides a higher performance improvement, especially at a large incidence angle. As the adoption of wind energy as a key renewable energy source accelerates, precise power flow analysis becomes crucial for accurate power delivery forecasting. This paper addresses the inherent uncertainties in wind speed data at different wind farm locations by conducting a sensitivity analysis to assess wind farm pairs. The analysis accommodates various data sizes, namely, short, medium, and large, and diverse spatial relationships between wind farms. By leveraging National Renewable Energy Laboratory wind speed data from nine distinct wind farms, the dependence structure between wind farm pairs is modeled using copulas. This modeling takes both the wind speed knowledge level and the various spatial interplays among the wind farm pairs into consideration. With increasing number and proximity of wind farms, it becomes crucial to consider wind farm effects (WFEs) in the numerical weather prediction (NWP) models used to forecast power production. Furthermore, these WFEs are also expected to affect other weather-related parameters at least locally. Thus, we implement the explicit wake parameterization (EWP) in the NWP model HARMONIE–AROME (hereafter HARMONIE) along-side the existing wind farm parameterization (WFP) by (FITCH). We evaluate and compare the two WFPs against research flight measurements as well as against similar simulations performed with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model using case studies. The case studies include a case for WFEs above a wind farm as well as two cases for WFEs at hub height in the wake of farms. The results show that EWP and FITCH have been correctly implemented in HARMONIE. For the simulated cases, EWP underestimates the WFEs on wind speed and strongly underestimates the effect on turbulent kinetic energy (TKE). FITCH agrees better with the observations, and WFEs on TKE are particularly well captured by HARMONIE–FITCH. Unexploded ordnance (UXO), often deployed in WWI and WWII, are still present on the seabed posing a risk to seabed construction. UXO surveys identify potential UXO targets which are then investigated and removed where necessary; however, approximately 96 per cent of targets investigated on projects included in this study were non-UXO (false positives). Here we investigate methods of improving statistical confidence in targets picked through the improved classification of magnetic response, utilizing simulation methods and historic data. A simulation of the induced magnetism of UXO was developed to model the most likely dimensions and orientation of a given source item. Modelling results and measured variables were combined in an optimization algorithm, hereon referred to as 'the classifier'. We document the results of integrating the magnetic responses of 3027 targets from 18 offshore wind projects into the classifier. Five of these projects were performed as tests in which the target results were unknown during classification. Finally, the classifier was deployed on a live project, Hollandse Kust Zuid 3 and 4 Offshore Wind Farm, in which it enabled the removal of 67 targets from the from the 1200-target investigation list. The classifier proved to be a valuable additional tool to assist the target rationalization process, reliably and repeatably distinguishing UXO from other items, thereby reducing false positives and repeatably demonstrating no threshold UXO false negatives. Subsynchronous oscillations have occurred in wind farms due to the high penetration of converter-based technology in power systems and may potentially lead to grid instability. As an effective solution, synchronous condensers, with their ability to control voltage and inject reactive power in the power system, are increasingly being adopted, as they can lead to the mitigation of such oscillations in weak grid conditions. However, the impact of synchronous condensers' power ratings on system stability is a topic that requires further investigation. In fact, an improper selection of a synchronous condenser's rating will not extinguish existing subsynchronous oscillations and may even cause the emergence of new oscillatory phenomena. This paper presents a novel examination of the impact that the synchronous condenser's power rating has on the small-signal stability of a wind farm with existing subsynchronous oscillations while being connected to a weak grid. The wind farm's model is developed using state-space modeling, centering on grid interconnection and incorporating the state-space submodel of a synchronous condenser to show its impact on subsynchronous oscillation mitigation. The stability analysis determines the optimal synchronous condenser's power ratings for suppressing these oscillations in the wind farm model. The findings are corroborated through time domain simulations and fast-Fourier transformation (FFT) analysis, which further validate the stability effects of a synchronous condenser's rating. Scouring around the fixed foundations of offshore wind turbines (OWTs) remains a pressing concern within the offshore wind industry, significantly jeopardizing OWT safety. Despite previous efforts, the current understanding of this phenomenon remains incomplete, as various factors related to offshore wind farms and OWT operations can exert intricate influences. To further explore this matter, this paper undertakes a new study to further understand the interplay between monopile vibrations, tidal currents, and sea waves, elucidating their combined impact on scour surrounding an OWT's foundation. It was found that, besides pile vibration amplitude and frequency, the pile vibration direction can also notably influence the scour around the monopile. Specifically, the most pronounced scour mostly transpires when the monopile undergoes vibrations along the 135° direction relative to the inflow direction. The mildest scour mostly occurs when the pile vibrates along the 90° direction. Additionally, this study reveals that different types of waves, indicated by the ratio of water depth, H, to wavelength, L, also engender varying scour around the monopile. The influence of waves on scour increases with the decrease in the H/L ratio, implying that OWT foundations are more threatened by shallow water waves than by deep water waves. Wind profiling within operating wind farms is important for both wind resource assessment and wind power prediction. With increasing wind turbine size, it is getting difficult to obtain wind profiles covering the turbine-affecting area due to the limited height of wind towers. In this study, a stepwise quality control and optimizing process for deriving high-quality near-surface wind profiles within wind farms is proposed. The method is based on the radial wind speed obtained by the Doppler Wind Lidar velocity-azimuth display (VAD) technique. The method is used to obtain the whole wind profile from ground level to the height affected by wind turbines within a utility-scale onshore wind farm, in northern China. Compared with the traditional carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) filter-based quality control method, the proposed data processing method can significantly improve the accuracy of the derived wind. For a 10 m wind speed, an increase in coefficient of determination (R2) from 0.826 to 0.932, and a decrease in mean absolute error (MAE) from 1.231% to 0.927% are obtained; while for 70 m wind speed, R2 increased from 0.926 to 0.958, and MAE decreased from 1.023% to 0.771%. For wind direction, R2 increased from 0.978 to 0.992 at 10 m, and increased from 0.983 to 0.995 at 70 m. The optimized method also presents advantages in improving the accuracy of derived wind under complex wind environments, e.g., inside a wind farm, and increasing the data availability during clear nights. The proposed method could be used to derive wind profiles from below the minimum range of a vertically operating scanning Doppler Lidar to a height affected by wind turbines. Combined with Doppler beam-swinging (DBS) scanning data, the method could be used to obtain the complete wind profile in the boundary layer. Offshore wind farms are great options for addressing the world's energy and climate change challenges, as well as meeting rising energy demand while taking environmental and economic impacts into account. Floating wind turbines, in specific, depict the next horizon in the sustainable renewable energy industry. In this study, a life-cycle cost analysis for floating offshore wind turbines is developed by combining the most recent data and parametric formulas from databases and relevant papers. The cost analysis models focused on cost minimization with special emphasis on Operation and Maintenance Cost (OPEX), Decommissioning Cost (DECOM), and Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE), which are important factors in wind power economy. Given that floating wind energy is still developing, the presented scenarios should be beneficial in making future decisions. The cost analysis scenarios include on-site and off-site maintenance scenarios for OPEX. In addition, four alternative scenarios for DECOM have been examined: mechanical recycling, mechanical-incineration, incineration processes, and landfill. According to the findings of these scenarios, OPEX varies from 16.89 to 19.93 £/MWh and DECOM between 3.47 and 3.65 £/MWh, whilst the total LCOE varied from 50.67 to 66.73 £/MWh. Planning logistical processes supports the managerial processes of an enterprise, including investments such as wind farm construction. The aim of the article is to analyze and assess the time determinant in the logistical process of wind farm planning. The research method involves the analysis of a case study on the investment planning of a wind farm (WF) in Poland from 2008 to 2020. The Critical Path Method (CPM) was applied to the planning and scheduling of projects and logistical planning processes at WF Barwice. As a result of the research efforts, which included the identification of stages, time frames, critical paths, and construction conditions, the outcome is a concept for optimizing the logistical process of wind farm planning. The main problem associated with the planning of this investment was the analysis and evaluation of the environmental factors that would impact upon a positive assessment of the construction of WF Barwice. The outcome is the optimization of the time determinant in the logistical process of wind farm planning from 14 years to 10; however, legal, administrative, and environmental constraints have influenced the achieved result. This paper presents a novel approach for optimizing wind farm control through the utilization of a combined model predictive control method. In contrast to conventional methods of controlling active and reactive power in wind farms, the suggested approach integrates a wind power prediction model driven by a neural network and a state-space model for wind turbines. This combination facilitates a more precise forecast of active power, thereby enabling the dynamic prediction of the range of reactive power output from the wind turbines. When combined with the equation of state in wind farm space, it is possible to accurately optimize the reactive power of a wind farm. Furthermore, the impact of active power on voltage fluctuations in the wind farm collector system was examined. The utilization of model predictive control enhances voltage regulation, optimizes system redundancy, and increases the reactive capacity. Sensitivity coefficients were calculated using analytical methods to enhance computational efficiency and to resolve issues related to convergence. The proliferation of urbanization and the integration of new energy sources have stimulated the development of gas-insulated transmission lines and switchgear (GIL/GIS). In particular, the compact DC GIS in offshore converter platforms will significantly reduce footprints for DC switchyards, exhibit exceptional climatic resistance, and facilitate the cost-effective connection of remote offshore wind farms and submarine links. Nevertheless, insulators used in GIS/GIL always suffer from surface charge accumulation under DC stress, which could distort and enhance the local electric field and thus trigger a flashover at the gas–solid interface if it exceeds certain magnitude levels. This susceptibility becomes a major concern affecting the reliability of DC gas-insulated systems. Beyond these engineering-related challenges lie fundamental physics problems involving mechanisms of charge accumulation and charge-induced flashover which still require exploration. To this end, this paper presents an overview of recent advancements on this topic whilst highlighting relevant issues to be addressed. Specifically, the surface charge accumulation phenomena under DC fields are reviewed, and the charging mechanisms are summarized from macroscopic to microscopic perspectives. Further, the correlation between surface charge and surface flashover is discussed. Moreover, recent developments in tailoring methods for surface charging are also presented. Identifying offshore wind energy sites involves analyzing multiple variables, such as wind speed, proximity to the coastline, and sociocultural factors. This complex decision-making process often involves many stakeholders, resulting in conflicting data and goals. Decision analysis that promotes collaboration, transparency, understanding, and sustainability is key. This study presents a unique model of human–environment interaction that reconciles different perspectives and visualizes the balance between fisheries and wind power. Using three multicriteria decision models (weighted aggregated sum product assessment [WASPAS], technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution [TOPSIS], and analytical hierarchy process [AHP]), we analyze the decision mix for wind farm selection and assess the impacts on fisheries using historical data. Our approach was applied to an upwelling system in California, generating ten tailored decision scenarios for different stakeholder groups. The results showed that adaptation scores for specific call areas in northern California decreased when the weight of fishery factors increased, and there was a tendency for high-scoring areas to shift southward as fishery parameters increased. The results of the sensitivity analysis showed that the first-order sensitivity scores of WASPAS were better correlated with the weights compared to TOPSIS, whereas the second-order sensitivity scores were generally lower, indicating a reduced interdependence of our model. As an important migratory bird habitat along the East Asian-Australasian route, the coastal wetlands along the Yellow Sea have experienced significant human losses and threats due to the impact of wind farms. In this study, the radar data was adopted to examine and analyse the spatial and temporal changes of the human-made characteristic areas that caused the change of the migration route of birds in the Yellow Sea from 2015 to 2022. The results show that the areas of impact zones in the study area on water of the Yellow Sea, during the last 8 years, increased 14 times, from 35.7 km2 to 506.3 km2. The areas of impact zones in the study area on land, during the last 8 years, increased almost two times, from 303.4 km2 to 544.2 km2, which also has a serious impact on the number of migratory birds. Therefore, China should carefully evaluate the impact and potential threat of domestic wind farms under operation and construction on birds and other wildlife, and provide scientific solutions for the site selection of new wind farms. Offshore photovoltaic power stations (OPVPS) greatly help solve energy problems and land resource scarcity. A crucial phase of the OPVPS project lifecycle is site selection. To select the optimal location of OPVPS with many difficulties such as the uncertainty of the environment, the compensating relationships among criteria, and the different attributes of the alternatives, this paper proposed a fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making framework based on Pythagorean fuzzy Elimination et Choix Traduisant la Realité-III (ELECTRE-III) method. First, the comprehensive criteria system for siting OPVPS was constructed, which included veto and evaluation criteria. Second, the Pythagorean fuzzy set was used to express the uncertain evaluation of experts. Third, considering the actual situation that experts had different experiences and abilities, this paper proposed a novel expert weighting method. Fourth, entropy weighting method, best–worst method, and combination weighting of game theory were introduced to calculate the criteria weights. Fifth, considering the compensation between criteria, ELECTRE-III was used for ranking. European petroleum majors have moved into offshore windfarm projects, with large investments and ambitious capacity and production targets. In aggressive bidding for Contracts for Difference in the UK, where oil companies have played a key part, we have seen the inflation-adjusted strike price fall 65% from 2015 to 2019. Researchers question whether LCOE will fall to the same extent and would like to see more research on the economic return of the companies making offshore wind investment. We address this by a transparent project economics analysis of the UK bottom-fixed Dogger Bank project. It is the largest offshore windfarm project in the world under development and the UK is the country with highest offshore wind capacity. The project is owned by Equinor, SSE Renewables and ENI. Our analysis shows that the project is expected to be unprofitable. Several of the input variables, however, are subject to considerable estimation uncertainty. We also present a low case and a high case scenario. Decomposition of the high case reveals factors that can contribute to a profitable wind power industry. We discuss financial issues facing oil company investment portfolios combining low return/ low risk renewables and high return/high risk petroleum. Offshore windfarms are organised as special purpose vehicle (SPV) companies. We analyse the economic interactions between the SPVs and the oil companies, and address accounting and financial issues. Solar photovoltaics (PV) continues to grow rapidly across the world and now accounts for a very considerable proportion of all non-fossil-fuel electricity. With the continuing urgency of greenhouse gas abatement, the growth of solar PV is inevitable. Competition with other land uses and the desire to optimize the efficiency of the panels by making use of water cooling are compelling arguments for offshore floating PV (OFPV), a trend that could also benefit from the existing infrastructure recently built for offshore wind farms. Building on our earlier work, we present a larger dataset (n = 82) located around the globe to assess global yield (dis)advantages while also accounting for a modified form of water cooling of the offshore panels. Using our results regarding the Köppen–Geiger (KG) classification system and using a statistical learning method, we demonstrate that the KG climate classification system has limited validity in predicting the likely gains from OFPV. Finally, we also explore a small subset of sites to demonstrate that economics, alongside geography and technology, impacts the feasibility of locating PV panels offshore. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There is an urgent need to develop accurate predictions of power production, wake losses and array–array interactions from multi-GW offshore wind farms in order to enable developments that maximize power benefits, minimize levelized cost of energy and reduce investment uncertainty. New, climatologically representative simulations with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model are presented and analyzed to address these research needs with a specific focus on offshore wind energy lease areas along the U.S. east coast. These, uniquely detailed, simulations are designed to quantify important sources of wake-loss projection uncertainty. They sample across different wind turbine deployment scenarios and thus span the range of plausible installed capacity densities (ICDs) and also include two wind farm parameterizations (WFPs; Fitch and explicit wake parameterization (EWP)) and consider the precise WRF model release used. System-wide mean capacity factors for ICDs of 3.5 to 6.0 MWkm−2 range from 39 to 45% based on output from Fitch and 50 to 55% from EWP. Wake losses are 27–37% (Fitch) and 11–19% (EWP). The discrepancy in CF and wake losses from the two WFPs derives from two linked effects. First, EWP generates a weaker 'deep array effect' within the largest wind farm cluster (area of 3675 km2), though both parameterizations indicate substantial within-array wake losses. If 15 MW wind turbines are deployed at an ICD of 6 MWkm−2 the most heavily waked wind turbines generate an average of only 32–35% of the power of those that experience the freestream (undisturbed) flow. Nevertheless, there is no evidence for saturation of the resource. The wind power density (electrical power generation per unit of surface area) increases with ICD and lies between 2 and 3 Wm−2. Second, EWP also systematically generates smaller whole wind farm wakes. Sampling across all offshore wind energy lease areas and the range of ICD considered, the whole wind farm wake extent for a velocity deficit of 5% is 1.18 to 1.38 times larger in simulations with Fitch. Over three-quarters of the variability in normalized wake extents is attributable to variations in freestream wind speeds, turbulent kinetic energy and boundary layer depth. A suction bucket foundation is a new type offering high construction efficiency, precise positioning, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. It has been extensively employed in marine resource development, particularly in offshore wind power and oil and gas extraction. It usually involves multiple suction bucket conduit rack platforms during offshore construction projects. Accurately predicting the sinking penetration resistance and determining the suction value is crucial during the construction of the suction bucket foundation, as it ensures the safe sinking of the platform foundation to the designated depth. This paper examines the feasibility of the suction bucket foundation's sinking, sinking penetration resistance, suction value, and self-weight penetration depth, using the offshore wind farm guiding frame platform foundation project in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province, as a basis of analysis. The measured data is analyzed using the API specification static equilibrium analysis method, ABAQUS finite element analysis, and data mining techniques. The suction drum base platform's sinking process was monitored for negative pressure and penetration resistance. These observed values were compared to theoretical and finite element calculations. Results demonstrated that the API specification's theoretical calculations and finite element analyses effectively predict sinking penetration resistance, the suction force value, and the penetration depth for self-gravitational penetration. On-site engineering data fit these theoretical calculations, and finite element analyses well. The findings from this study have enriched the engineering application database of the suction drum foundation, providing a valuable reference for the design and construction of similar projects and establishing the groundwork for further promotion and application. It is observed that the number of onshore wind farms that reach the end of their service life is continually increasing. The decision-making process that defines the future of the farm is a challenge for the owners. This systematic review aimed to identify which factors influence the decision-making process at the end-of-life cycle of onshore wind farms. In accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol, a research strategy was developed and used the Scopus, Web of Science and EMBASE databases. Initially, 2767 articles were identified, but, after double-blind screening, 26 articles were analyzed in full. The scarcity of studies on this topic and little elucidation are limitations of this review. The results include (i) a systematization of six options for decision making, (ii) thirteen factors influencing the decision-making process associated with categories of external factors (logistics and infrastructure aspects, regulatory aspects and public policies, national energy guidelines, the technological development of the sector); and internal factors (economic/financial, operational and environmental aspects). It is concluded that most of the publications consist of simulations and theoretical studies highlighting a bottleneck in experiences and feasible data to support decisions at the end of service life. It is highlighted that most of the studies showed that partial decommissioning with partial repowering, as well as total decommissioning, were the most feasible options for the end-of-life cycle, with aspects related to public policies and regulatory aspects, as well as environmental, operational and economic/financial aspects, being the most influential, especially due to the wake effect, operation and maintenance costs (OPEX) and the protection of guarantees and incentives for operation in a new operating cycle.
