Abstract

In spite of their key role in galaxy evolution and several decades of observational efforts, the census of supernova remnants (SNRs) in our Galaxy remains incomplete. Theoretical predictions based on the local supernova rate estimate the expected number of SNRs in the Galaxy to be $\gtrsim$ 1000. By contrast, the number of detected SNRs amounts to about 300. High-resolution, wide-area radio surveys at low frequencies are ideal tools with which to find missing SNRs, given the prominence of these sources at low radio frequencies. We aim to find missing SNRs using proprietary data from the LOFAR Two-Metre Sky Survey (LoTSS) at 144~MHz. We used LoTSS total intensity maps of two Galactic regions, one with $39^\mathrm{o} < l < 66^\mathrm{o}$ and $|b|< 2.5^\mathrm{o}$, and the other with $145^\mathrm{o} < l < 150^\mathrm{o}$ and $|b| < 3^\mathrm{o}$, in addition to mid-infrared (MIR) data from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) all-sky survey to search for SNR candidates. We report the discovery of 14 new SNR candidates selected on the basis of their morphology at 144 MHz and a lack of MIR emission. We also follow up on 24 previously reported SNR candidates, inferring their spectral index between the LoTSS frequency (144 MHz) and the frequency at which they were reported. The high resolution and sensitivity of LoTSS observations has resulted in the detection of 14 new SNR candidates. 2. nlstac: Non-Gradient Separable Nonlinear Least Squares Fitting

Abstract

A new package for nonlinear least squares fitting is introduced in this paper. This package implements a recently developed algorithm that, for certain types of nonlinear curve fitting, reduces the number of nonlinear parameters to be fitted. One notable feature of this method is the absence of initialization which is typically necessary for nonlinear fitting gradient-based algorithms. Instead, just some bounds for the nonlinear parameters are required. Even though convergence for this method is guaranteed for exponential decay using the max-norm, the algorithm exhibits remarkable robustness, and its use has been extended to a wide range of functions using the Euclidean norm. Furthermore, this data-fitting package can also serve as a valuable resource for providing accurate initial parameters to other algorithms that rely on them.

Abstract

Background: Rett syndrome (RTT), a developmental disorder primarily affecting girls and linked to methyl‐CpG binding protein‐2 (MECP2) gene mutations, presents musculoskeletal abnormalities with varying prevalence across studies and age groups. Our aim was to delineate the prevalence of orthopaedic conditions in individuals with RTT. Method: Three databases were searched and independently screened by two reviewers to retrieve observational studies published after 2000 that recruited 10 or more patients diagnosed with RTT and reported the prevalence of any orthopaedic conditions (scoliosis, hip displacement, knee problems or foot deformities). A random‐effects meta‐analysis was performed to determine the pooled prevalence based on study weight. Results: Of 867 screened studies, 21 studies involving 9997 girls with RTT (mean age 14.1 years; range, 3–38.5) met the inclusion criteria. The pooled prevalence of scoliosis was 64.5% [95% confidence interval (CI) 55.4–73.6%; I2 = 99%; P < 0.01], of hip displacement was 29.6% (95% CI 8.9–50.2%; I2 = 97%; P < 0.01) and of foot deformities was 53% (95% CI 17.5–89.2%; I2 = 98%; P < 0.01). Knee problems were reported in only one study. Scoliosis prevalence increased in studies with a high percentage of genetic testing and MECP2 positivity [69.1% (95% CI 58.9–79.2%; I2 = 99%; P < 0.01)], those with a mean age over 13 years [73% (95% CI 59.1–87%; I2 = 100%; P < 0.01)], and studies combining both variables [80.13% (95% CI 70.8–89.4%; I2 = 81%; P < 0.01)]. Conclusions: This meta‐analysis found that approximately two in three girls with RTT develop scoliosis, one in two exhibit foot deformities and one in three experience hip displacement. These findings enhance our understanding of the prevalence of orthopaedic conditions in RTT, which can guide the establishment of surveillance protocols, clinical guidelines and management strategies tailored to the needs of RTT patients. Data on their use and possible misuse will allow the identification of risk factors and to design protocols to reduce and prevent avoidable harm to patients being treated for pain.Design: A descriptive, cross-sectional and multicenter study was performed.Setting: Fifty-three primary health care teams, which provides healthcare for 1,300,000 inhabitants.Patients: A total of 1840 patients had active prescriptions of tapentadol and 985 of oxycodone/naloxone.Methods: Demographic (age, sex) and clinical (glomerular filtration rate; active liver disease; dosing and duration of treatment), prescribed daily dose (according to age, sex, length of treatment), concomitant analgesic treatment and diagnosis. Patient information was obtained from medical records.Results: Most of the patients were women (> 74.0% in both cases), and the average age was 69.3 years (women: 70.1± 13.2; men: 66.7± 13.9 years) in the case of tapentadol and 70.6 years (women: 64.0± 13.6; men: 72.6± 14.3 years) in the case of oxycodone/naloxone. Only 12.2% of patients taking tapentadol and 12.1% taking oxycodone/naloxone had a normal renal function. In both cases, 4.1% of patients had active liver disease. The average length of treatment was 246.4 days in oxycodone/naloxone and 199.0 days in tapentadol. It was recorded that 85.1% of patients in the case of tapentadol and 89.0% in the oxycodone/naloxone had at least another drug prescribed for pain. About 42.2% of patients treated with tapentadol and 34.4% of patients treated with oxycodone/naloxone had associated neuralgia as a diagnosis.Conclusion: The pattern of use and profile of patients with tapentadol and oxycodone/naloxone had more similarities than differences, and suggested that prescribing practice, and monitoring should be assessed regularly to ensure patient safety and effective management of pain.Keywords: clinical practice pattern, chronic pain, opioids, oxycodone/naloxone, primary health care, culture, tapentadol

Desde la generalización del screening mamográfico, la incidencia de cáncer de mama, ha aumentado al triple comparada con las series antiguas cuando el cáncer de seno no se podía detectar hasta que era palpable. En el año 2000, en el Instituto Oncológico Juan Tanca Marengo, el cáncer de mama ocupa el segundo lugar después del cáncer de cuellos uterino. La prevalencia de cáncer mamario ha ido aumentando a medida que la calidad y la sensibilidad de la mamografía ha mejorado. Por tanto, el informe radiológico debe tener una amplia base de sustentación teórica y práctica para ser útil y confiable. En el presente trabajo describimos el método BIRADS (Sistema de Reporte y Datos de Estudio Imagenológicos de la Mama); el mismo que nos permite una clasificación adecuada de las lesiones mamarias, logrando un protocolo de lectura radiológica para tener mayor certeza en el diagnóstico sin entrar en el plano Histopatológico. Es importante especial preparación del radiólogo en ésta disciplina.

32. Toughness enhancement of low carbon steel through bainitic transformation.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of continuous cooling treatment on the impact toughness and ductile-brittle transition temperature of a low carbon ferrite-pearlite dual-phase steel. Impact testing was performed according to ASTM E23 at temperatures ranging from -60°C to 90°C. The results indicate a significant increase in toughness of approximately 64% and a reduction in the ductile-brittle transition temperature from 50°C in the as-received condition to 0°C after heat treatment. These changes were analyzed through microstructural examination and fractographic analysis. A bainitic transformation was observed, leading to microstructural refinement and an associated toughness improvement. Additionally, a change in fracture surface morphology was noted in the heat-treated steel, as the bainitic transformation resulted in an increased ductile fracture area across the tested temperature range. Abstract

We present a mini-survey of Galactic B[e] stars mainly undertaken with the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). B[e] stars show morphological features with hydrogen emission lines and an infrared excess, attributed to warm circumstellar dust. In general, these features are assumed to arise from dense, non-spherical, disk-forming circumstellar material in which molecules and dust can condensate. Due to the lack of reliable luminosities, the class of Galactic B[e] stars contains stars at very different stellar evolutionary phases like Herbig AeBe, supergiants or planetary nebulae. We took near-infrared long-slit K-band spectra for a sample of Galactic B[e] stars with the LBT-Luci I. Prominent spectral features, such as the Brackett gamma line and CO band heads are identified in the spectra. The analysis shows that the stars can be characterized as evolved objects. Among others we find one LBV candidate (MWC314), one supergiant B[e] candidate with 13CO (MWC137) and in two cases (MWC623 and AS 381) indications for the existence of a late-type binary companion, complementary to previous studies. For MWC84, IR spectra were taken at different epochs with LBT-Luci I and the GNIRS spectrograph at the Gemini North telescope. The new data show the disappearance of the circumstellar CO emission around this star, previously detectable over decades. Also no signs of a recent prominent eruption leading to the formation of new CO disk emission are found during 2010 and 2013., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS (in press)

Abstract

The Unidad de Tratamiento Archivístico y Documentación (Archives and Documentation Unit - UTAD) is a transversal and multivalent service of the Human and Social Sciences Centre (CCHS). It is in charge of processing, fasilitating access, preserving and dissiminating the data stocks of the CCHS, which superintands and administers taking into consideration the variety of stocks, processes and users. Its aim is to put them at the disposal of the researchers and administrative agencies of the CSIC, in order to facilitate consulting. Strategy lines, core activities available services, challenges and commitments are presented as a present-day creation unit.
