Wireless communication systems are inherently challenged by factors such as fading, path loss, and shadowing, leading to potential errors in data transmission. Traditional methods to mitigate these issues include power control, diversification, variable beamforming, and modulation techniques. However, the unpredictable nature of the wireless medium often limits their effectiveness. A new approach to address these challenges is the implementation of cascaded intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS). IRS systems consist of multiple passive elements that intelligently reflect electromagnetic waves, thereby enhancing signal quality. The Advanced Discrete Fourier Transform (ADFT) matrix scheme is explored in channel estimation, a novel method particularly suitable for wireless networks utilising cascaded IRS. The ADFT matrix scheme is significant for its efficiency in managing the common‐link configuration of cascading channel coefficients, which effectively reduces pilot overhead. When compared to traditional channel estimation methods like the Least Square|least squares, Maximal a posteriori probability, and Linear Minimum Mean Square Error, the ADFT matrix scheme exhibits superior performance. It achieves a remarkable reduction in normalised mean squared error (NMSE) – 66% and 80% at 20 dB and 15 dB Signal to‐Noise Ratios (SNR), respectively. Furthermore, increasing the pilot length correlates with enhanced NMSE performance, with a noted 33% improvement as the base station distance increases. Simulations demonstrate that with an escalation in the number of IRS elements and SNR, the ADFT matrix scheme consistently surpasses conventional methods. This study presented a new approach to seizure classification utilizing electroencephalogram (EEG) data. We introduced the NeuroWave-Net, an innovative hybrid model that seamlessly integrates convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) architectures. Unlike conventional methods, our model capitalized on CNN's proficiency in feature extraction and LSTM's prowess in classifying seizure. The key strength of the NeuroWave-Net lies in its ability to combine these distinct architectures, synergizing their capabilities for enhanced accuracy in identifying seizure conditions within EEG data. Our proposed model exhibited outstanding performance, achieving a classification accuracy of 99.48%. The occurrence of tomato diseases has substantially reduced agricultural output and financial losses. The timely detection of diseases is crucial to effectively manage and mitigate the impact of episodes. Early illness detection can improve output, reduce chemical use, and boost a nation's economy. A complete system for plant disease detection using EfficientNetV2B2 and deep learning (DL) is presented in this paper. This research aims to develop a precise and effective automated system for identifying several illnesses that impact tomato plants. This will be achieved by analyzing tomato leaf photos. A dataset of high-resolution photographs of healthy and diseased tomato leaves was created to achieve this goal. The EfficientNetV2B2 model is the foundation of the deep learning system and excels at picture categorization. Transfer learning (TF) trains the model on a tomato leaf disease dataset using EfficientNetV2B2's pre-existing weights and a 256-layer dense layer. Tomato leaf diseases can be identified using the EfficientNetV2B2 model and a dense layer of 256 nodes. An ideal loss function and algorithm train and tune the model. Next, the concept is deployed in smartphones and online apps. The user can accurately diagnose tomato leaf diseases with this application. Utilizing an automated system facilitates the rapid identification of diseases, assisting in making informed decisions on disease management and promoting sustainable tomato cultivation practices. The 5-fold cross-validation method achieved 99.02% average weighted training accuracy, 99.22% average weighted validation accuracy, and 98.96% average weighted test accuracy. Sunflower is a crop that has many economic values and ornamental usages. However, its production can be hampered due to various diseases such as downy mildew, gray mold, and leaf scars, and it is challenging for farmers to identify disease-prone conditions with traditional approaches. Thus, a computerized model composed of vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning is the demand of the age to detect diseases in plants efficiently. In this paper, we develop a hybrid model with transfer learning (TL) and a simple CNN using a small dataset for detecting sunflower diseases. Out of the eight models tested on the dataset of four different classes (downy mildew, gray mold, leaf scars, and fresh leaf), the VGG19 + CNN hybrid model achieves the best results in terms of precision, recall, F1-score, accuracy, Hamming loss, Matthews coefficient, Jaccard score, and Cohen's kappa metrics. Disasters may occur at any time and place without little to no presage in advance. With the development of surveillance and forecasting systems, it is now possible to forebode the most life-threatening and formidable disasters. However, forest fires are among the ones that are still hard to anticipate beforehand, and the technologies to detect and plot their possible courses are still in development. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) image-based fire detection systems can be a viable solution to this problem. However, these automatic systems use advanced deep learning and image processing algorithms at their core and can be tuned to provide accurate outcomes. Therefore, this article proposed a forest fire detection method based on a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture using a new fire detection dataset. Notably, our method also uses separable convolution layers (requiring less computational resources) for immediate fire detection and typical convolution layers. Thus, making it suitable for real-time applications. Consequently, after being trained on the dataset, experimental results show that the method can identify forest fires within images with a 97.63% accuracy, 98.00% F1 Score, and 80% Kappa. Hence, if deployed in practical circumstances, this identification method can be used as an assistive tool to detect fire outbreaks, allowing the authorities to respond quickly and deploy preventive measures to minimize damage. The widespread usage of smart devices with various city-centric services speeds up and improves civic life, in contrast to growing privacy and security concerns. Security issues are exacerbated when e-government service providers trade their services within a centralised framework. Due to security concerns, city-centric centralised services are being converted to blockchain-based systems, which is a very time-consuming and challenging process. The interoperability of these blockchain-based systems is also more challenging due to protocol variances, an excessive amount of local transactions that raise scalability and rapidly occupy memory. In this paper, we have proposed a framework for interoperability across various blockchain-based smart city services. It also summarises how independent service providers might continue self-service choices (i.e., local transactions) without overloading the blockchain network and other organisations. Asthma is a disease which attacks the lungs and that affects people of all ages. Asthma prediction is crucial since many individuals already have asthma and increasing asthma patients is continuous. Machine learning (ML) has been demonstrated to help individuals make judgments and predictions based on vast amounts of data. Because Android applications are widely available, it will be highly beneficial to individuals if they can receive therapy through a simple app. In this study, the machine learning approach is utilized to determine whether or not a person is affected by asthma. Besides, an android application is being created to give therapy based on machine learning predictions. To collect data, we enlisted the help of 4,500 people. We collect information on 23 asthma-related characteristics. We utilized eight robust machine learning algorithms to analyze this dataset. We found that the Decision tree classifier had the best performance, out of the eight algorithms, with an accuracy of 87%. TensorFlow is utilized to integrate machine learning with an Android application. The Internet of Things (IoT) is essential in innovative applications such as smart cities, smart homes, education, healthcare, transportation, and defense operations. This review paper explores the latest trends in healthcare-monitoring systems by implementing the role of the IoT. The work discusses the benefits of IoT-based healthcare systems with regard to their significance, and the benefits of IoT healthcare. We provide a systematic review on recent studies of IoT-based healthcare-monitoring systems through literature review. The literature review compares various systems' effectiveness, efficiency, data protection, privacy, security, and monitoring. The paper also explores wireless- and wearable-sensor-based IoT monitoring systems and provides a classification of healthcare-monitoring sensors. We also elaborate, in detail, on the challenges and open issues regarding healthcare security and privacy, and QoS. The growth of the Internet has expanded the amount of data expressed by users across multiple platforms. The availability of these different worldviews and individuals' emotions empowers sentiment analysis. However, sentiment analysis becomes even more challenging due to a scarcity of standardized labeled data in the Bangla NLP domain. The majority of the existing Bangla research has relied on models of deep learning that significantly focus on context-independent word embeddings, such as Word2Vec, GloVe, and fastText, in which each word has a fixed representation irrespective of its context. Meanwhile, context-based pre-trained language models such as BERT have recently revolutionized the state of natural language processing. In this work, we utilized BERT's transfer learning ability to a deep integrated model CNN-BiLSTM for enhanced performance of decision-making in sentiment analysis. In addition, we also introduced the ability of transfer learning to classical machine learning algorithms for the performance comparison of CNN-BiLSTM. Additionally, we explore various word embedding techniques, such as Word2Vec, GloVe, and fastText, and compare their performance to the BERT transfer learning strategy. This paper proposes a unique method to improve light intensity and efficiency of white organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) by engraving micro lens arrays (MLAs) on the outer face of the substrate layer. The addition of MLAs on the substrate layer improves the light intensity and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the OLEDs. The basic OLED model achieved an EQE of 14.45% for the effective refractive index (ERI) of 1.86. The spherical and elliptical (planoconvex and planoconcave) MLAs were incorporated on the outer face of the substrate layer to increase the EQE of the OLEDs. The maximum EQE of 17.30% was obtained for Convex-1 (elliptical planoconvex) MLA engraved OLED where the ERI was 1.70. In addition, Convex-1 MLA engraved OLED showed an improvement of 3.8 times on the peak electroluminescence (EL) light intensity compared to basic OLED. The liver is considered an essential organ in the human body. Liver disorders have risen globally at an unprecedented pace due to unhealthy lifestyles and excessive alcohol consumption. Chronic liver disease is one of the principal causes of death affecting large portions of the global population. An accumulation of liver-damaging factors deteriorates this condition. Obesity, an undiagnosed hepatitis infection, alcohol abuse, coughing or vomiting blood, kidney or hepatic failure, jaundice, liver encephalopathy, and many more disorders are responsible for it. Thus, immediate intervention is needed to diagnose the ailment before it is too late. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate several machine learning algorithm outputs, namely logistic regression, random forest, XGBoost, support vector machine (SVM), AdaBoost, K-NN, and decision tree for predicting and diagnosing chronic liver disease. The classification algorithms are evaluated based on various measurement criteria, such as accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, an area under the curve (AUC), and specificity. Among the algorithms, the random forest algorithm showed better performance in liver disease prediction with an accuracy of 83.70%. Furthermore, the random forest algorithm also showed better precision, F1, recall, and AUC metrics. Hence, random forest is considered the best algorithm for early liver disease prediction. Pneumonia is a fatal disease responsible for almost one in five child deaths worldwide. Many developing countries have high mortality rates due to pneumonia because of the unavailability of proper and timely diagnostic measures. Using machine learning-based diagnosis methods can help to detect the disease early and in less time and cost. In this study, we proposed a novel method to determine the presence of pneumonia and identify its type (bacterial or viral) through analyzing chest radiographs. We performed a three-class classification based on features containing diverse information of the samples. After using an augmentation technique to balance the dataset's sample sizes, we extracted the chest X-ray images' statistical features, as well as global features by employing a deep learning architecture. We then combined both sets of features and performed the final classification using the RandomForest classifier. A feature selection method was also incorporated to identify the features with the highest relevance. We tested the proposed method on a widely used (but relabeled) chest radiograph dataset to evaluate its performance. The proposed model can classify the dataset's samples with an 86.30% classification accuracy and 86.03% F-score, which assert the model's efficacy and reliability. However, results show that the classifier struggles while distinguishing between viral and bacterial pneumonia samples. In this paper, we study the resource slicing problem in a dynamic multiplexing scenario of two distinct 5G services, namely Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC) and enhanced Mobile BroadBand (eMBB). While eMBB services focus on high data rates, URLLC is very strict in terms of latency and reliability. In view of this, the resource slicing problem is formulated as an optimization problem that aims at maximizing the eMBB data rate subject to a URLLC reliability constraint, while considering the variance of the eMBB data rate to reduce the impact of immediately scheduled URLLC traffic on the eMBB reliability. To solve the formulated problem, an optimization-aided Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) based framework is proposed, including: 1) eMBB resource allocation phase, and 2) URLLC scheduling phase. In the first phase, the optimization problem is decomposed into three subproblems and then each subproblem is transformed into a convex form to obtain an approximate resource allocation solution. In the second phase, a DRL-based algorithm is proposed to intelligently distribute the incoming URLLC traffic among eMBB users. In this work, we propose a risk-aware physical distancing system to assure a private safety distance from others for reducing the chance of being affected by the COVID-19 or such kind of pandemic. In particular, we have formulated a physical distancing problem by capturing Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) of a Bluetooth-enabled personal area network (PAN). To solve the formulated risk-aware physical distancing problem, we propose two stages solution approach by imposing control flow, linear model, and curve-fitting schemes. Notably, in the first stage, we determine a PAN creator’s safe movement distance by proposing a probabilistic linear model. This scheme can effectively cope with a tail-risk from the probability distribution by satisfying the CVaR constraint for estimating safe movement distance. In the second stage, we design a Levenberg-Marquardt (LM)-based curve fitting algorithm upon the recommended safety distance and current distances between the PAN creator and others to find an optimal high-risk trajectory plan for the PAN creator. Finally, we have performed an extensive performance analysis using state-of-the-art Bluetooth data to establish the proposed risk-aware physical distancing system’s effectiveness. Our experimental results show that the proposed solution approach can effectively reduce the risk of recommending safety distance towards ensuring private safety. Ultra-reliable low-latency communication (uRLLC) and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) are two influential services of the emerging 5G cellular network. Latency and reliability are major concerns for uRLLC applications, whereas eMBB services claim for the maximum data rates. Owing to the trade-off among latency, reliability and spectral efficiency, sharing of radio resources between eMBB and uRLLC services, heads to a challenging scheduling dilemma. In this paper, we study the co-scheduling problem of eMBB and uRLLC traffic based upon the puncturing technique. Precisely, we formulate an optimization problem aiming to maximize the minimum expected achieved rate (MEAR) of eMBB user equipment (UE) while fulfilling the provisions of the uRLLC traffic. We decompose the original problem into two sub-problems, namely scheduling problem of eMBB UEs and uRLLC UEs while prevailing objective unchanged. Radio resources are scheduled among the eMBB UEs on a time slot basis, whereas it is handled for uRLLC UEs on a mini-slot basis. Moreover, for resolving the scheduling issue of eMBB UEs, we use penalty successive upper bound minimization (PSUM) based algorithm, whereas the optimal transportation model (TM) is adopted for solving the same problem of uRLLC UEs. Furthermore, a heuristic algorithm is also provided to solve the first sub-problem with lower complexity. Finally, the significance of the proposed approach over other baseline approaches is established through numerical analysis in terms of the MEAR and fairness scores of the eMBB UEs. LTE over unlicensed band (LTE-U) has emerged as an effective technique to overcome the challenge of spectrum scarcity. Using LTE-U along with advanced techniques such as carrier aggregation, one can boost the performance of existing cellular networks. However, if not properly managed, the use of LTE-U can potentially degrade the performance of co-existing Wi-Fi access points, which operate over the unlicensed frequency bands. Moreover, most of the existing works consider single operator in their proposals. In this paper, an effective coexistence mechanism between LTE-U and Wi-Fi systems is studied. The goal is to enable the cellular network to use LTE-U with CA to meet the quality-of-service (QoS) needs of its users while protecting Wi-Fi access points (WAPs) for a network with multiple operators. In particular, the problem of LTE-U sum-rate maximization is addressed under user QoS and WAP-LTE-U coexistence constraints. To solve this problem, a cooperative Nash bargaining game (NBG) and a one-sided matching game are proposed. Here, the NBG solves the coexistence issue between LTE-U and Wi-Fi system, while the matching game solves the resources allocation problem in the LTE-U system. These two games repeat until convergence. Simulation results show the quality of the proposed approach over other comparing methods in terms of the per-user achieved rate, percentage of unsatisfied users, and fairness. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) refers to the damages endured by the retina as an effect of diabetes. DR has become a severe health concern worldwide, as the number of diabetes patients is soaring uncountably. Periodic eye examination allows doctors to detect DR in patients at an early stage to initiate proper treatments. Advancements in artificial intelligence and camera technology have allowed us to automate the diagnosis of DR, which can benefit millions of patients indeed. This paper inscribes a novel method for DR diagnosis based on the gray-level intensity and texture features extracted from fundus images using a decision tree-based ensemble learning technique. This study primarily works with the Asia Pacific Tele-Ophthalmology Society 2019 Blindness Detection (APTOS 2019 BD) dataset. We undertook several steps to curate its contents to make them more suitable for machine learning applications. Our approach incorporates several image processing techniques, two feature extraction techniques, and one feature selection technique, which results in a classification accuracy of 94.20% (margin of error: ±0.32%) and an F-measure of 93.51% (margin of error: ±0.5%). Several other parameters regarding the proposed method's performance have been presented to manifest its robustness and reliability. Details on each employed technique have been included to make the provided results reproducible. The field of Medicine and Healthcare has attained revolutionary advancements in the last forty years. Within this period, the actual reasons behind numerous diseases were unveiled, novel diagnostic methods were designed, and new medicines were developed. Even after all these achievements, diseases like cancer continue to haunt us since we are still vulnerable to them. Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally; about one in every six people die suffering from it. Among many types of cancers, the lung and colon variants are the most common and deadliest ones. Together, they account for more than 25% of all cancer cases. However, identifying the disease at an early stage significantly improves the chances of survival. Cancer diagnosis can be automated by using the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which allows us to assess more cases in less time and cost. With the help of modern Deep Learning (DL) and Digital Image Processing (DIP) techniques, this paper inscribes a classification framework to differentiate among five types of lung and colon tissues (two benign and three malignant) by analyzing their histopathological images. The acquired results show that the proposed framework can identify cancer tissues with a maximum of 96.33% accuracy. Pneumonia is a virulent disease that causes the death of millions of people around the world. Every year it kills more children than malaria, AIDS, and measles combined and it accounts for approximately one in five child-deaths worldwide. The invention of antibiotics and vaccines in the past century has notably increased the survival rate of Pneumonia patients. Currently, the primary challenge is to detect the disease at an early stage and determine its type to initiate the appropriate treatment. Usually, a trained physician or a radiologist undertakes the task of diagnosing Pneumonia by examining the patient's chest X-ray. However, the number of such trained individuals is nominal when compared to the 450 million people who get affected by Pneumonia every year. Fortunately, this challenge can be met by introducing modern computers and improved Machine Learning techniques in Pneumonia diagnosis. Researchers have been trying to develop a method to automatically detect Pneumonia using machines by analyzing and the symptoms of the disease and chest radiographic images of the patients for the past two decades. However, with the development of cogent Deep Learning algorithms, the formation of such an automatic system is very much within the realms of possibility. In this paper, a novel diagnostic method has been proposed while using Image Processing and Deep Learning techniques that are based on chest X-ray images to detect Pneumonia. The method has been tested on a widely used chest radiography dataset, and the obtained results indicate that the model is very much potent to be employed in an automatic Pneumonia diagnosis scheme.
