The present study aimed to explore which instructional methods are used in inclusive classrooms for teaching mathematics to students with mild intellectual disability (ID) and whether individualised accommodations can influence their learning. The action research project involved five adolescent participants with mild ID and three maths teachers at an independent secondary school in Australia. A range of qualitative data drawn from semi-structured interviews with all participants, classroom observations and learning support plans was collected over a period of 8 weeks. The analysis of students' voices revealed that, despite their frustration and discouragement in this subject, they can understand and articulate suitable adjustments to enhance their learning in mathematics. Furthermore, it became clear that although teachers had good intentions, heavy time demands hindered their ability to plan effectively and transform their pedagogical approaches.

Engaging high school students experiencing a mild to moderate Intellectual Disability (ID) in conversations about their math learning experiences can provide valuable insights for enhancing inclusive classroom teaching and learning. This paper reports on the pilot study of a broader research project that focuses on the voice of high school students experiencing ID in relation to their mathematics education. The study aims to analyse students’ experiences and perspectives on how they are taught mathematics based upon direct input from the students themselves.This research is significant because students experiencing ID have not been provided with the same opportunities to contribute to their learning as most other education stakeholders (parents, school leaders, teachers, and other student groups). This discrepancy is exemplified by the exclusion of students with ID from the descriptions of academic success in the NSW Curriculum Review (2020).The current research study addresses an important gap by acknowledging that students with ID have been underrepresented in the collection of student voices recognised in education. The study confirms that students with ID can actively participate in discussions about their learning experiences, offering unique and insightful recommendations for improving how mathematics is taught to them. The article describes the case of a flat-coated retriever presenting with middle ear cholesteatoma. Otoscopic examination revealed tympanic membrane rupture linked to hyperplastic tissue at the entrance of the middle ear. Standard magnetic resonance imaging sequences enabled the identification of a severely expanded bulla containing material that was isointense to brain tissue on T1-weighted images and of mixed intensity of T2-weighted and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequences.

DIAGNOSTIC ultrasonography has been used in veterinary medicine for over 30 years. In the late 1970s, it was performed largely as a means of pregnancy diagnosis in the mare, ewe and sow. However, since then, technological advances have allowed the production of high resolution ultrasound images and accurate representation of movement, making it a useful tool for a range of veterinary applications. With equipment costs having also decreased, this imaging modality is now more readily available in practice. The key for the clinician is to produce images of the highest quality in order to maximise the diagnostic information obtained. This article describes the types of equipment available and provides practical guidance on how to optimise settings to obtain good quality, diagnostically useful images. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

A 2-year-old female neutered Somali cat was presented with vomiting and acute onset jaundice 1 year after diagnosis of pyruvate kinase (PK) deficiency. Diagnostic investigations revealed a moderate regenerative haemolytic anaemia, severe hyperbilirubinaemia and elevated liver enzymes. Ultrasonography revealed marked distension of the gall bladder and common bile duct (CBD), consistent with extrahepatic biliary obstruction (EHBO). At cholecystotomy, the gall bladder contained purulent material, and two obstructive choleliths were removed from the CBD by choledochotomy. The cat recovered from surgery uneventfully, and serum liver enzymes and bilirubin normalised within 10 days. Postoperative treatment consisted of cephalexin, metronidazole and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). Bacterial culture of the gall bladder contents yielded a pure growth of an Actinomyces species. Cholelith analysis revealed that they consisted of 100% bilirubin. Antibiotic treatment was stopped 4 weeks after surgery but UDCA was continued indefinitely. The cat remains clinically well with no recurrence of cholelithiasis 20 months after initial presentation. This is the first report of successful treatment and long-term follow-up of a cat with EHBO due to bilirubin cholelithiasis in association with PK deficiency-induced chronic haemolysis.
