In recent decades, the composition of academic library collections has shifted toward electronic formats, resulting in a more complicated publication landscape to be navigated by selectors. Additionally, the workload of public services librarians has become more weighted toward instruction and research support, putting more pressure on the time of liaison librarians tasked with collection development responsibilities. These shifts have prompted academic institutions, including University of Wyoming Libraries, to consider a restructuring of collection development responsibilities. Ebooks pose many challenges in library collection development, mostly due to the lack of standards and the many different platforms available. These challenges are faced by both public and academic libraries, but the challenges inherent in collecting popular reading ebooks can be different from the challenges that come with collecting scholarly ebooks. This article describes the purpose and processes behind an academic library, University of Wyoming Libraries, providing popular reading ebooks to its faculty and students, and focuses on the experience of being a 3M Cloud Library early adopter. The University of Wyoming Libraries recently completed a major expansion and renovation of the William Robertson Coe Library, the main library on the University of Wyoming campus. One of the goals of the project was to improve the security of the building, its contents, and its occupants. The library staff had minimal involvement in the design of the security suite that is now in place in the finished building, and so far it has been difficult to fully appreciate the features of the system. Issues preventing optimal use of the security system include hardware and software problems; lack of understanding of the features; and the lack of well-defined roles for library personnel, campus police, physical plant technicians, and other people involved in the implementation of the system. The current situation demonstrates the importance of defining the goals of the security system before engaging a consultant to recommend specific pieces of equipment and designate the locations of hardware. The University of Wyoming Libraries are currently experiencing a major expansion and renovation of the William Robertson Coe Library, the flagship library. From the standpoint of security, the challenges of creating a new addition adjacent to the existing structure are minor in comparison to the difficulties of renovating the existing building in several phases while providing a safe working environment for the library employees, providing patrons with access to the collections and technological infrastructure of a research library, and enabling construction personnel to work safely in various parts of the building at all hours. The purpose of this workshop was to emphasize the importance of written procedures manuals for technical services, using anecdotal evidence to demonstrate the difficulties that can arise when workplace policies are not documented. In the subtitle of the workshop, the forest represents the big picture (having any kind of written policies or procedures); the trees represent the policies to which the staff can refer in doing their work; and the critters are items not normally addressed in manuals, the absence of which can cause unexpected problems for unwary managers. The University of Wyoming Libraries planned and implemented a serials cancellation project between September 1990 and June 1991. Nearly 2,000 titles were selected for cancellation. Unique features of the project included the use of a faculty survey to collect data on essential titles and the development of a working file within the CARL integrated library system to back and disseminate project information.
