Summary: Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a hematological malignancy characterized by BCR-ABL1-derived permanent proliferation of myeloid progenitor cells. BCR-ABL1 tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) are effective first-line therapeutic options to suppress tumor proliferation. However, TKI therapy is not always curative and drug-related side effects as well as drug resistance may evolve over time, necessitating salvage therapies. Methods: In this case report we present a 68-year-old woman who developed second- and third-generation TKI therapy resistance with BCR-ABL1T315I and BCR-ABL1E255V mutation. Considering contraindication for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, we treated the patient in an individual treatment attempt with a third-generation TKI ponatinib in combination with palbociclib, a CDK4/CDK6 inhibitor, which has been shown to effectively inhibit proliferation of BCR-ABL1T315I-mutated cells in vitro. Results: Our case study shows strong antineoplastic effects using this combination in an advanced CML patient resistant to ponatinib monotherapy as a fourth-line treatment. Combined administration of ponatinib/palbociclib at full dose showed almost a tenfold decrease (42.6 to 4.4 IS%) of BCR-ABL1-positive cells but with simultaneous hematopoietic toxicity, necessitating dose reduction. Summary: Treatment outcomes of AIDS-related lymphomas (acquired immune deficiency syndrome, ARL) have improved, nearing those reported for HIV-negative (human immunodeficiency virus) cohorts; recommended treatment protocols are herewith presented. The diagnostic approach to lymphoma in patients with HIV should include screening for and treatment of concomitant infections attributed to HIV-related immunosuppression. Appropriate antiretroviral treatment with adjustments for potential drug interactions should be initiated urgently, and recommended antibiotic, antifungal and antiviral prophylaxis commenced. Creep behavior is very important for the selection of refractory materials. This paper presents a methodology to measure the compressive creep behavior of fired magnesia materials at elevated temperatures. The measurements were carried out at 1150–1500 °C and under compression loads from 1–8 MPa. Creep strain was calculated from the measured total strain data. The obtained creep deformations of the experimental investigations were subjected to detailed analysis to identify the Norton-Bailey creep law parameters. The modulus of elasticity was determined in advance to simplify the inverse estimation process for finding the Norton-Bailey creep parameters. In the next step; an extended material model including creep was used in a finite element analysis (FEA) and the creep testing procedure was reproduced numerically. Within the investigated temperature and load range; the creep deformations calculated by FEA demonstrated a good agreement with the results of the experimental investigations. Finally; a finite element unit cell model of a quarter brick representing a section of the lining of a ferrochrome (FeCr) electric arc furnace (direct current) was used to assess the thermo-mechanical stresses and strains including creep during a heat-up procedure. The implementation of the creep behavior into the design process led to an improved prediction of strains and stresses.

We report the detection of unusual superconductivity up to 49 K in single crystalline CaFe2As2 via electron-doping by partial replacement of Ca by rare-earth. The superconducting transition observed suggests the possible existence of two phases: one starting at 49 K, which has a low critical field <4 Oe, and the other at 21 K. with a much higher critical field >5 T. Our observations are in strong contrast to previous reports of doping or pressurizing layered compounds AeFe2As2 (or Ae122), where Ae = Ca. Sr. or Ba. In Ae122, hole-doping has been previously observed to generate superconductivity with a transition temperature (Tc) only up to 38 K and pressurization has been reported to produce superconductivity with a Tc up to 30 K.
