Since the inception of literary studies in English Departments in American colleges and universities over a century ago, literature and composition have been pursued as largely separate fields of study. Many studies have looked at how they differ, but few have looked at how their similarities might benefit students. This study compares the underlying values of Writing and Literary Studies through conceptual metaphors (Lakoff and Johnson 2003). A mixed-method procedure of classroom observations, faculty and department chair interviews, student surveys, and textual analysis was employed to ascertain what conceptual metaphors are used in Writing and Literary Studies to determine where their values overlap and where they diverge as a first step in determining if those overlaps could be beneficial to students. Concurrent results of each method were used to triangulate overlap and/or divergence in values. Results show that there are 4 dominant metaphor groups that occur across both Writing and Literary Studies, with a special group emerging called "pseudo-metaphors," which at first glance demonstrate overlap in values but differ in context, demonstrating that while there may be overlap in values, the context of those values matter. In this work, topological configuration of dangerous zone in the mine ventilation network and concentrations of fire gases in it are estimated and identified at vent impacting on the emergency conditions. The obtained information on gas-dynamic state of the mine ventilation network at a current moment of time is used for undertaking primary measures according to the plan of accident response: emergency evacuation of people and actions of militarized mine-rescue services for eliminating emergency at its initial stage with taking into account changed emergency ventilation mode. The proposed method allows identifying an area in the mine contaminated by combustion products with taking into account time of its formation, changes in ventilation mode during the accident and possible air stream reversal in zones with descentional ventilation under the influence of the fire source depression and formation of zones with fire gas recirculation. With implementation of this method, it becomes possible to improve accuracy of detecting gassy zones in the ventilation network and effectiveness of emergency response.

The increase of energy efficiency of main fans (MF) work is the basic condition of perfecting the mine ventilation system. During realization of multi-fan ventilation there is the non-productive «overbalancing» of vent flow from a weaker towards more powerful ventilator which causes decline of work efficiency of both. The questions of reducing the MF mutual influence on the outgoing air flow and increasing the aerodynamic quality of vent network have been studied and considered insufficiently. It is proposed to use the method of calculating the effective MF operating conditions taking into account the mutual influence of MF and areas-users of fresh air in mine ventilation network and on the basis of criterion of estimating the MF mutual influence, which will allow to enhance the energy efficiency of mine ventilation and labour safety of subsurface miners.

Need to improve the methodological and technical means of obtaining, adjusting and updating the results of the airly-depressed surveys (ADS). With this purpose, identified issues that do not respond modern tasks of the ADS concerning the control of the aerological condition of coal mines. Methods of structural and parametric identification of the mine ventilation network are developed. It is proposed to replace obsolete control devices of aerodynamic parameters more modern, developed by Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics named by N. Poljakov of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, devices: anemometer portable mine APR-2, micromanometer differential mine MDR-6, the converter difference of pressure PRD-1. It is proposed a new approach to actualization of information, consisting in the joint of measurements by stationary and portable control devices. Methods of structural-parametric identification and measuring instruments of the aerodynamic parameters of a new technical level offered for the first time. Use of the proposed methods and technical means processing the results of the ADS will improve the quality of aerodynamic information received.

Aims: The objectives of this scoping review were to: (1) identify the target audience and contexts in which strategies to improve type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) medication adherence have been used, (2) provide an overview of behaviour change techniques (BCTs) used, (3) describe the determinants of behaviour targeted by strategies and (4) to identify current gaps in strategies. Methods: A systemic search for articles related to T2DM, medication adherence and strategies was conducted in EMBASE, Ovid MEDLINE and Epub Ahead of Print, In‐Process & Other Non‐Indexed Citations and Daily using the OvidSP platform on 11 March 2021. All publications involving strategies to overcome medication non‐adherence among adults with T2DM were included. Strategies were categorized according to the BCT taxonomy and the determinants of behaviour targeted by each strategy were classified by using the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF). Results: The search identified 58 articles and 61 strategies. The BCT categories Antecedents and Natural consequences and BCTs Feedback on outcome(s) of behaviour, Adding objects to the environment and Information about health consequences were identified most frequently as components of strategies resulting in statistically significant improvement in medication adherence. Strategies targeting the TDF domains Reinforcement and Beliefs about Consequences most often resulted in statistically significant improvements in adherence measures. Conclusions: The findings from this review identify BCTs and targeted behaviours with demonstrated success. Further exploration of the myriad of BCTs and the corresponding determinants of behaviour which were not accessed may be warranted for the development of future strategies to improve medication adherence in type 2 diabetes. Research is presented describing a superconducting bending magnet for beam injection that is being used in the construction at RIKEN of a K2500 superconducting ring cyclotron with six sectors. The ring cyclotron will be used as an energy booster for RIKEN's existing K540 ring cyclotron.

In Ontario, Canada, little is currently known about the extent to which un-immunized children may cluster geographically. Our objectives were to: describe the geographic distribution of fully un-immunized children; identify geographic clusters (hotspots) of un-immunized children; and to characterize the contribution of spatial effects and covariates on hotspots, where found. Our analytic cohort consisted of Ontario students aged 7–17 years in the 2016–2017 school year. We defined students as un-immunized if they had zero doses of any vaccine and a non-medical exemption recorded in Ontario's registry. We calculated unadjusted proportions of un-immunized students by Census Subdivision (CSD) and then used a sequential approach to identify hotspots starting first with hotspot identification at the CSD level and then probed identified hotspots further by Dissemination Area (DA) and including covariates. Hotspots were identified using the Besag-York-Mollie Bayesian spatial model and were defined as areas with >95% probability of having two times the proportion of un-immunized students, relative to the province overall. We identified 15,208 (0.94%) un-immunized children within our cohort consisting of more than 1.61 million students. Unadjusted proportions of un-immunized students varied greatly by geography, ranging from 0% to 21.5% by CSD. We identified 16 hotspot CSDs which clustered in five distinct areas, all of which were located in southern Ontario. The contribution of covariates and spatial effects on the risk of having un-immunized students varied greatly across hotspot areas. Although the provincial proportion (0.94%) of un-immunized students is small, geographical clustering of such students is evident in Ontario and in some areas presents an important risk for future outbreaks. Further qualitative work within these hotspot areas would be a helpful next step to better characterize the factors associated with vaccine refusal in these communities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An internal-tin route Nb3Sn superconducting wire that has both remarkably low hysteresis loss (Qh) and high critical current density (Jc) was developed according to a new design idea. The wire was constructed by arranging the filaments in a radial layout, enlarging the outer filaments along the radial direction, intentionally narrowing the filament spacing in the radial direction, and enlarging the filament spacing in the tangential direction. Thus, the electromagnetic coupling among the filaments in the tangential direction due to the bridging and/or proximity effect was suppressed without decreasing the volume fraction of Nb. As a result, excellent properties such as Jc(12 T) = 1.15 × 10³ A/mm², Qh = 301 mJ/cm³ (for 1 cycle of B = ±3 T), Tc = 17.3 K, and Bc2 = 24.1 T were obtained. Scanning electron microscope observations confirmed that the cause of experimental Qh values being lower than expected is that the majority of the filaments in the second and outermost rows were not completely combined. Electron probe micro-analyses confirmed that the good Tc and Bc2 values resulted from the qualitative improvement of the Nb3Sn compound. This study examines the impact of embedded versus nonembedded (unilateral) news coverage during the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. A content analysis was conduycted of the Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Chicago Tribune news coverage of the invasion and occupation examining whether embedded and nonembedded new reports were different and, if so, how. News reports were examined for differences in tone toward the military, trust in the military, framing, and authoritativeness. The results of the study revealed significant differences in overall tone toward the military, trust in military personnel, framing, and authoritativeness between embedded and nonembedded articles. Internal radiotherapy involving systemic administration of iodine- 131 metaiodohenzylguanidine (131I-MIBG) in neural crest tumours such as neuroblastoma has shown considerable success. Although peritoneal seeding of neuroblastoma occurs less often than metastases to organs such as the liver, no effective treatments exist in this clinical setting. Previous reports have demonstrated the effectiveness of peritoneal application of chemotherapeutic drugs or radiolabelled monoclonal antibodies in several kinds of carcinomas. Local delivery of 131I-MIBG should produce more favourable dosimetry in comparison with its systemic administration in the treatment of peritoneal neuroblastoma. In the current investigation, a peritoneal model of neuroblastoma was established in Balh/c nu/nu mice by i.p. injection of SK-N- SH neuroblastoma cells. Two weeks after cell inoculation, comparative bio-distribution studies were performed following i.v. or i.p. administration of 131I-MIBG. Mice were treated with 55.5 MBq of 131I-MIBG administered either i.v. or i.p. at 2 weeks. Intraperitoneal injection of 131I-MIBG produced significantly higher tumour accumulation than did i.v. injection (P<0.01). Therapeutic ratios of i.p. injection were 4- to 14-fold higher than those of i.v. injection. Radiotherapy with i.v. administered 131I-MIBG failed to improve the survival of mice; mean survival of untreated mice and mice treated with i.v. administration of 131I-MIBG was 59.3±3.9 days and 60.6±2.8 days, respectively. On the other hand, radiotherapy delivered via i.p. administration of 131I-MIBG prolonged survival of mice to 94.7±17.5 days (P<0.02 vs untreated controls and mice treated with i.v. 131I-MIBG therapy). Radiation doses absorbed by tumours at 55.5 MBq of 131I-MIBG were estimated to he 4,140 cGy with i.p. injection and 450 cGy with i.v. injection. Weak visualization of tumours in pre-therapeutic scintigrams with technetium-99m sestamibi (MIBI) is likely a predictive sign of unfavourable tumour response to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, factors relating to this scintigraphic finding are not well understood. The presence of hypoxic tumour cells is one of the major reasons for therapeutic failure; consequently, we attempted to determine whether oxygenation stares affects [sup 99m]Tc-MIBI accumulation in tumour cells. LS180 human colon cancer and T24 human bladder cancer cells were incubated in air or N[sub 2] gas at 37°C. Cellular uptake of [sup 99m]Tc-MIBI was subsequently determined at 15, 60 and 120 min. Uptake of thallium-201 chloride was also assessed. Uptake of [sup 99m]Tc-HL91 was assessed as a hypoxic marker. Accumulation of the tracers in LS180 xenografts was observed in mice treated with 5 mg/kg hydralazine and compared with that in untreated mice. pO[sub 2] in the medium and tumours was measured with O[sub 2] microelectrodes. N[sub 2] gas flow gradually reduced pO[sub 2] in the cell suspension to 1-2 mmHg in 60 min. Cellular uptake of [sup 99m]Tc-MIBI in LS180 cells decreased by approximately 30% in N[sub 2] gas in comparison to that in air throughout the study. Hypoxia had a more prominent influence on [sup 201]T1 uptake, which displayed a reduction of approximately 60% in N[sub 2] gas at 120 min, than on [sup 99m]Tc-MIBI uptake. On the other hand, N[sub 2] gas induced an increase of 170% in [sup 99m]Tc-HL91 uptake at 120 min, indicating the hypoxic condition of cells. The results of in vitro assays employing the T24 cell line were similar to those obtained with the LS180 cell line. Hydralazine treatment markedly reduced [sup 99m]Tc-MIBI and [sup 201]T1 accumulation in LS180 xenografts; moreover, intratumoural pO[sub 2] decreased from 14.5 ± 6.6 mmHg to 7.6 ± 6.2 mmHg.
