AbstractThe objective of this paper is to explore the relationship between business information, business networking, access to finance and financial performance of social enterprises. It broadens on theoretical threads from the perspective of resource-based view theory and signalling theory. Hypotheses are tested to assess the possible effect of business information, business networking, access to finance as well as financial performance of social enterprises. A cross-sectional survey was conducted by using the standardized questionnaire to collect primary data from a total of 384 owners/directors of social enterprises. Simple random sampling method was applied to select social enterprises functioning in the country. A Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling was applied to examine the data. This study found a positive and significant direct relationship between business information, access to finance, and business networking on financial performance of the social enterprises in Pakistan. The results supported the moderation effect of access to finance on business information and financial performance whereas, access to finance does not have a significant moderation impact between business networking and financial performance. Therefore, this study recommends that social enterprises in Pakistan should provide great emphasis on business networking and business information to introduce financially creative solutions for the societal problems, which are essential for overall wellbeing of different stakeholders of the social enterprises.

Financial literacy (FL) is an important ability needed by any individual to understand, evaluate, and communicate business and financial information. Having accurate financial information increases one's competency to be financial literate. It is regarded as a common and basic life skill that libraries can develop for their users. Using purposive sampling, this study ponders into the status and challenges of eight public city libraries in the Philippines in terms of providing FL education and how they can potentially share a role in developing the economy of a country. Public libraries' readiness to serve their users can be observed in terms of their collection, web presence, services, and programs. The level of financial knowledge and competencies of city librarians were also assessed. A look into the available professional development programs for public librarians in business and finance librarianship was reviewed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to demonstrate the current state and prospects for the use of innovative technologies for business information management to optimize business processes. The authors analyzed, systematized and generalized scientific works of many scholars, who consider the components of business process management, innovative methods of optimizing business management, which a significant number of companies are still forced to resort to. For a successful optimization, the head of the company needs to find a competent specialist who is familiar with all the complexities of optimization, who is directly participating in the process and personally controls all the actions of the employees involved. Innovative technologies make a fundamental contribution to the transformation of business process structures, business process changes, and modeling according to environmental requirements. Among them, in order to optimize business processes, special attention is paid to the technology of benchmarking the business processes. Benchmarking is an extremely useful tool, especially when it is necessary to review the internal performance of the company and identify new priorities. It is worth remembering that foreign investment also plays an important role in the optimization system. It is determined that the development of innovative technologies and the aggravation of competition require enterprises to effectively manage their processes, provide high-quality products or services and meet the needs of customers. The use of business process management systems can help companies achieve higher efficiency and productivity, reduce costs, improve product or service quality, and improve customer satisfaction. It is worth understanding that the use of innovative technologies should be synchronized with the strategic planning and budget system of the enterprise. It is necessary to create an effective mechanism for managing business processes, taking into account the possibilities and limitations of resources, so that the enterprise can reach a new level of quality. In the future, it is necessary to consider the issue of investment support for the introduction of innovative technologies in the management of business processes of the enterprise.

STRATEGIC planning ,TOURISM management ,SMALL business ,PERSONNEL management ,INDUSTRIAL management ,INFORMATION technology industry - Abstract
The information technology infrastructure library (ITIL) standard describes processes that should be implemented in Information Technology (IT) departments for proper operations management, which includes human resources management, economic management, and strategic management, among others. This should be especially considered in the business management of industries with no relation to information technologies (IT), such as tourism and hospitality companies. This work aims to present a method to establish the order of adoption of the IT management processes in companies that belong to the tourism industry. We conducted a survey to obtain the necessary data and developed a methodology that is based on an optimization procedure. This procedure generates the optimal sequence of IT tasks to adopt in a generic small company in the tourism industry. The methodology was then applied to a representative tourism company. Through the sequence obtained, it is shown that it is necessary to implement operative processes, and subsequently, strategic processes. A comparative study was developed to find the differences with other authors' proposals. The most important result we found was the possibility of efficient use of organizations' information to build an optimized list of IT procedures to improve their administration. The obtained list of processes is specific for each organization, and not dependent on the solutions offered by other authors who proposed a general or underoptimal list of processes. One of the key elements to consider in business management is the management of IT (Information Technology) departments by implementing processes as described in the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) standard. This is particularly important in industries that are not directly related to ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), such as the tourism industry. In this paper, we present a methodology to sequence the implementation of the ITIL processes in any company to support its development. The methodology is based on an optimization algorithm and the information extracted from a survey. The optimal sequence is built from this information and from the information of the restrictions imposed by the company that implements the ITIL processes. We applied the methodology to a company in the tourism industry. The sequence obtained shows the need to implement operative processes (initial positions in the sequence), and afterwards strategic processes (final positions in the sequence). A comparison with other authors' proposals shows differences in the order of processes proposed by this methodology. The main conclusion is that it is possible to use the information of companies to efficiently generate an optimal sequence of ITIL processes which enhances their management; this sequence is unique for every company that wants to implement ITIL in the tourism industry, and it is independent from the proposals of other authors who designed generic/non-optimal sequences. The study investigated public library as a source of business information for small-scale business enterprises in Nigeria. Six states in the Southwest region of Nigeria were used for the study, while purposive sampling was used to select forty small-scale businesses from each of the states, which brought the population of the study to 240. As a survey research, a questionnaire was used for data collection. The findings of the study revealed that information on sources of business funding was the major information need of small-scale businesses, while books were the most available information sources in the public library. Based on the findings, the study recommends among others, that government should provide more funding to support small-scale businesses; and that public libraries should acquire more information sources particularly those on sources of business funding, to complement available ones. The study contributes to literature and its empirical data will be useful to policymakers on how to reposition public libraries for effective provision of business information to small-scale business people. Was sind typische Fragen? Welche Informationsquellen werden genutzt? Wie hat sich die Wirtschaftsrecherche in den letzten Jahrzehnten verändert? Was sind aktuelle Entwicklungen?

The fast development of B2B digital platforms offers many suppliers opportunities to engage their customers in new product development projects on these platforms. However, customers are often reluctant to participate in these projects due to potential risks, such as leaking critical business information and opportunism. Digital platforms further increase these risks as customers may face more uncertainties due to a lack of physical contact on these platforms. Drawing on the transaction cost analysis, we examine how platform governance mechanisms (i.e., macroculture and collective sanctions) influence customer participation in supplier NPD on B2B digital platforms. We find that both macroculture and collective sanctions can potentially facilitate customer participation on B2B digital platforms but in different ways. Specifically, macroculture tends to influence customer participation directly, especially when customers have heterogeneous needs. In comparison, the impact of collective sanctions on customer participation is contingent on high platform accessibility and customer need heterogeneity.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) offers promising opportunities to transform the operation of industrial systems and becomes a key enabler for future industries. Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely utilized for realizing intelligent IIoT applications where AI techniques require centralized data collection and processing. However, this is not always feasible in realistic scenarios due to the high scalability of modern IIoT networks and growing industrial data confidentiality. Federated Learning (FL), as an emerging collaborative AI approach, is particularly attractive for intelligent IIoT networks by coordinating multiple IIoT devices and machines to perform AI training at the network edge while helping protect user privacy. In this article, we provide a detailed overview and discussions of the emerging applications of FL in key IIoT services and applications. A case study is also provided to demonstrate the feasibility of FL in IIoT. Finally, we highlight a range of interesting open research topics that need to be addressed for the full realization of FL-IIoT in industries., Accepted at IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine

SMALL business , *ACCESS to information , *INFORMATION sharing , *BUSINESSPEOPLE , *INFORMATION resources - Abstract
Information search, access, sharing and needs of entrepreneurs of small and medium-sized enterprises in Brazil was researched using exploratory and descriptive methods. The data was gathered by local innovation agents of the government programme LIA from entrepreneurs of 18 São Paulo Estate cities. Results suggest that there is no information sharing, that access to information is restricted to a small group of employees, and that they do not access information as often as they should, and when they do, they follow informal procedures. In addition, information is underutilized, a lot of information from customers is ignored, and information obtained from the external environment is not used to improve or innovate the business, its products, services and processes. Business processes are not recorded systhematically, making them difficult to access. So, SMEs do not have the systematized information environment that is needed to reach a high degree of innovation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Several countries in the Region in general and Jordan in particular are moving towards what is called “knowledge economy" and to become more linked to and integrated in global business within the context of "globalization". The main objective of this research was to document and share the experiences of the private sector especially companies in Jordan as part of their work to develop and expand their role in the knowledge-based economy. The paper discussed the contribution of libraries (libraries, information and documentation centers) in business development and the extent to which libraries are used in business management including planning, organization, human resources management and direction and control. The role of libraries in supporting research and development, protection of intellectual property and trademarks, the development of professional networks and working groups through the implicit and explicit information sources was elaborated based on previous studies. The paper attempted to identify the areas that contribute to business information or business intelligence in the success of businesses, thus building the knowledge economy. The paper utilizeddata using standardized interviews with senior executives in six companies in Jordan, including small, medium and large enterprises to understand how they use information to support businesses, identify the channels they use to access information to support policies, procedures and decision making. The paper discussed the role of knowledge management, in particular lessons learned and best practices, and leveraging experiential knowledge in business administration. Based on the analysis of data collected through the interviews, it was concluded that libraries and information centers are underutilized by the business community while implicit knowledge and social networks are more used. The paper offered a number of recommendations: libraries should promote and market their services, they should change the role they play form storage places to more proactive agents to access information, library and information sciences departments should focus on business information in teaching, research and publishing and that research on use of information for planning and decision-making should continue. In recent years, major large ports in China have realized the business informatization of rail-water intermodal transportation. However, the overall development level of intermodal transportation informatization has been restricted to a great extent due to the unbalanced development of intermodal transportation informatization in different regions, the rigid system architecture, the low degree of information sharing, and the lack of data management and analysis methods. Combined with the structure and business characteristics of intermodal transportation information systems, adopting cloud computing and Big Data technology, we propose an intermodal transportation information process with waybill as the information carrier and FPMS as the service fulcrum in this paper. Illustrated by the example of China’s container export process, this paper explores a series of key technical issues in the cloud environment, such as application management, business information sharing, and Big Data processing, at different levels of the construction of the rail water transport cloud platform, combined with its business characteristics, and makes experimental analysis on the relevant models to verify the feasibility of the reconstruction of the rail water transport cloud platform. It can provide theoretical and practical support for the development of rail water intermodal informatization in China.

PurposeResearchers have investigated the distinctions between founder and nonfounder chief executive officers (CEOs) for different performance variables. Researchers have also investigated the use of media as supplemental information that investors review to make decisions about initial public offering (IPO) firms. Research that investigates founders and nonfounder CEOs of IPO firms in the media is limited but growing. This paper aims to explore how founder and nonfounder CEOs' narratives are portrayed differently in business media following an IPO.Design/methodology/approachUsing insights from the narrative paradigm, 1,057 news paragraphs about CEOs from 19 matched pairs (38 firms) were content analyzed using a contrasting coding strategy.FindingsFounders and nonfounders' narratives differ in three ways. Specifically, founder CEOs are more likely to (1) have their personal background detailed in the media, (2) translate technical business information to easy-to-understand general language and (3) be quoted talking about positive information than nonfounder CEOs.Research limitations/implicationsThe results of this study show the media's role in creating narratives about management and how the experiences of founders and nonfounders are represented differently in the media. The study is limited by only investigating media articles about CEOs and not investigating the entire organizational narrative.Originality/valueThis study adds to the growing literature that investigates the role the media plays in portraying management in the media at time of IPO.

- Abstract
Business information is a key aspect in any business. The evolution and transformations through which business information undergoes in time are impressive. These changes start from information sources, continue with inside information and end with customer information. Although we have specified distinct groups of information, these three groups are not independent, but rather tightly coupled. In an interconnected world, information is vital. The movement from product to product as a service, or product with services, has made a significant change in the way companies handle their relationships with customers as well as with employees. Information technology use in a global economy reduces the barrier of space between businesses, thus allowing better interactions among partner businesses even when they are in different geographical areas. Thus, loads of information can instantly be sent to a server, which is in cloud nowadays, where this information can be analysed in almost real-time and decisions can be made on the fly, permitting businesses to adapt to the shifts of the market. In this paper, based on the developments in the field of business information, we present a general-purpose flexible business information model, which can be useful for business owners and top-level management for information management in order to develop a more context-aware business plan. As a number of support programmes for competence improvement are provided to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Korea, it is recommended that these enterprises collaborate with each other. However, without information about other enterprises in the industry that they belong to or are planning to enter, many SMEs f ind it diff icult to look for partners that they can collaborate with. This article focuses on extracting a list of enterprises in a supply chain of a specif ic industry through a business information database and a Korean trademark rights database. Also, it focuses on suggesting a methodology that would show a list of actual deals made between enterprises found through a business deal database.Through these, it becomes possible for SMEs to have knowledge about other enterprises and their previous deals in a supply chain or a system of a specif ic industry. SMEs will thus be able to build a suitable business plan based on such information. Moreover, this article will be helpful for policymakers as it will help them understand the system and characteristics of the industry and come up with a suitable programme for the industry that can support SMEs. The purpose of the study was to explore how public libraries in Meru County, Kenya, address the information needs of small-scale business enterprises (SBEs) in the region. It was carried out from 2013 to 2015. A quantitative approach and survey research design were adopted to collect data from SBE traders and staff from three public libraries in Meru County. The study found that the business information needs of SBEs are myriad, sector-specific and cut across all stages of business development. These needs are fulfilled by consulting informal information resources and places. The few SBEs traders who were using public libraries for business information expressed high levels of satisfaction. The study concludes that public libraries have facilitative and functional roles of providing business information to SBEs by collaborating with like-minded stakeholders. The study recommends symmetrical dissemination of business information and the re-positioning of public libraries as community development centers by providing value-based and sector-specific business information solutions. This study explored the business information services offered to small-scale business enterprises (SBEs) by public libraries in Meru County, Kenya. Public libraries are community information centres, hence well-placed to serve the small-scale business community. A quantitative approach and survey research design were adopted. Data were collected from 296 SBE traders and 20 staff members from three public libraries in Meru County using well-structured questionnaires and interviews. Quantitative data were analysed with the help of SPSS software while a thematic analysis was used on qualitative data. The provision of business information services to SBEs in public libraries was in a desolate state owing to inadequate business collections, the lack of sufficient information and communications technology (ICT) facilities, poor awareness of business information services, a poor reading culture, and weak collaborations of public libraries with stakeholders. There is an indispensable need to establish insightful and holistic business information services at public libraries and to institute measures that would foster their utilisation by SBEs. This can be achieved by elevating library facilities, enhancing outreach programmes, ensuring adequate funding, engaging knowledgeable business services librarians, embracing ICT in service delivery, and by having an appropriate policy framework. This paper studies how corruption affects two fundamental dimensions of a firm’s tax compliance: the likelihood of tax registration (possession of a tax ID) and the tax compliance ratio (the ratio between the firm’s tax payment and revenue). We explore a census covering all Vietnamese household businesses and leverage the differential exposure to corruption, depending upon which province similarly situated businesses are located within. Comparing household businesses in contiguous commune pairs that straddle provincial borders, we discover two seemingly contradictory results. We find that a household business that operates in a more corrupt province is more likely to possess a tax ID, even though it does not necessarily pay more in taxes. In fact, among firms that possess tax IDs, an increase in corruption is associated with a decrease in the tax compliance ratio. We suggest a plausible explanation for this pattern is that corrupt bureaucrats encourage tax-ID possession, because the registration form provides them with better business information to extract bribes. This mechanism implies that an increase in corruption should be associated with a smaller increase in tax-ID possession among more “visible” businesses. We test and find supporting empirical evidence for this prediction.

We proposed a framework comprising the 3 dimensions of formal ownership practices (profit sharing, participation in decision making, and access to business information) that influence brand psychological ownership, thereby facilitating brand citizenship behavior. Data were collected from 342 frontline employees in restaurants in Taiwan. The results of structural equation modeling analysis showed that the 3 dimensions of formal ownership practices were all strong predictors of brand psychological ownership, which enhanced brand citizenship behavior. Also, brand psychological ownership was an effective mediator in the relationship between formal ownership practices and brand citizenship behavior. If employees are to demonstrate positive brand behavior, that is, brand citizenship behavior, it is necessary for organizations to generate employees’ positive brand awareness, that is, brand psychological ownership, which plays a cross-level intermediary role between corporate management and brand citizenship behavior.

At the end of May 2018, the European Commission published a proposal for a Regulation amending the SPC Regulation to introduce a specific new exception that has been called the manufacturing waiver. The objective of this Regulation is to boost the European generic and biosimilar industry and make it competitive in relation to third-country competitors and in other markets. There were three aspects of the initial proposal that could have jeopardised the objective of the new legislation: its application was deferred for up to 15 years, the exception to manufacturing was only for export and not to enter the EU market after the expiry of the SPC, and the existence of safeguards that would have forced the maker to provide sensitive confidential business information. The European Parliament and the Council were sensitive to all these limitations and proposed an important revision of the text which was finally approved as Regulation (EU) 2019/933. This article explains the rationale behind the legislation and the modifications that have been introduced in the final text, which was approved on 20 May 2019 and entered into force on 1 July 2019, to achieve the objectives pursued.

The popularity of developing off-site manufacturing (OSM) projects is increasing in the construction industry. Sustainability is an importance concern of OSM stakeholders, and it becomes imperative to comprehend the way these stakeholders perceive it. However, there is still a lack of related explorations in this research area. Thus, the research aims to identify sustainability perceptions of OSM stakeholders based on their business information. A qualitative content analysis was adopted to retrieve and analyze the business information from Australian OSM stakeholders' official websites. The results show 59 sustainability perceptions, with the most mentioned ones being “High quality”, “Customer-focused approach and customization”, “Cost effectiveness and affordability”, and “Innovation”. Moreover, the OSM stakeholders’ sustainability perceptions have covered the social, environmental and economic sustainability dimensions, and the social sustainability perceptions were more focused than others. The statistical analysis reveals that there are no significant differences between different types of OSM stakeholders regarding their top-ranked sustainability perceptions and their perception numbers. The research facilitates understanding of the nature of the OSM sustainability issue, and offers OSM stakeholders a platform of re-thinking their sustainability practice. It also builds a new foundation of developing sustainability management frameworks and assessment benchmarks for OSM projects.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate the impact of the contextual antecedents on the individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) of university graduates, which, in turn, affects their entrepreneurial intentions (EIs). Design/methodology/approach Primary data were collected in the form of 510 valid responses from engineering students across two technical universities in India, through a structured questionnaire consisting of scales adapted from the extant literature, and the data were empirically validated in this study. The reliability and validity measures of the constructs were validated through the confirmatory factor analysis, and the proposed hypotheses were validated using structural equation modelling. Findings The results of this empirical analysis validate that the contextual antecedents have a significant positive impact on students’ entrepreneurial orientation (EO), which, in turn, has a significant positive influence on EIs. Research limitations/implications This analysis depicts the significance of EO as a perceptual driver at the individual level and substantiates that the availability of resources such as startup capital, access to business information, social networks and supportive university context significantly affects the decision-making process of an individual to venture into an otherwise uncertain occupation of entrepreneurship. Practical implications The study has the likely potential to help university administrators and policymakers to allocate resources, develop strategies and provide effective entrepreneurial learning in entrepreneurship-oriented courses aimed at honing entrepreneurial skills and self-confidence of the university students. This holistic model can be used as a tool for resource planning and prioritising in order to provide the desired contextual support essential for fostering the IEO of the university students towards adopting entrepreneurial career, thereby assisting them to achieve their career goals and the broader objective of nation-building. Originality/value This study adopts an innovative approach to empirically validate the EO construct at the individual level, which has been studied at the organisation (firm) level till today. This research explores the relevant contextual antecedents and analyses their impact on IEO as well as the explanatory capacity of IEO to explain students’ EIs in the contextual backdrop of universities in a fast transitioning economy like India.

The internationalization process has been constantly moving with an exceptional transformation led by the digital era. In order to face the challenges of the internationalization, enterprises need to understand thoroughly the new business environment, including foreign markets and customer insights to offer innovative products and services. Indeed, big data as the new source of knowledge helps enterprises convert business information into competitive advantages in the global market. Although the topic of big data receives much attention from researchers, the adoption of big data in internationalization is still an emerging research interest, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The purpose of this paper is to provide a concept-centric literature review that synthesizes and evaluates recent studies to examine the current state and future research directions of big data adoption in the internationalization process. The result of this paper indicates the status and future research directions of big data adoption in internationalization with the focus on international marketing. The paper finds out that the adoption of big data in international marketing is still in the early stage of maturity. Cyber threat information sharing is an imperative process towards achieving collaborative security, but it poses several challenges. One crucial challenge is the plethora of shared threat information. Therefore, there is a need to advance filtering of such information. While the state-of-the-art in filtering relies primarily on keyword- and domain-based searching, these approaches require sizable human involvement and rarely available domain expertise. Recent research revealed the need for harvesting of business information to fill the gap in filtering, albeit it resulted in providing coarse-grained filtering based on the utilization of such information. This paper presents a novel contextualized filtering approach that exploits standardized and multi-level contextual information of business processes. The contextual information describes the conditions under which a given threat information is actionable from an organization perspective. Therefore, it can automate filtering by measuring the equivalence between the context of the shared threat information and the context of the consuming organization. The paper directly contributes to filtering challenge and indirectly to automated customized threat information sharing. Moreover, the paper proposes the architecture of a cyber threat information sharing ecosystem that operates according to the proposed filtering approach and defines the characteristics that are advantageous to filtering approaches. Implementation of the proposed approach can support compliance with the Special Publication 800-150 of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to first, describe the origins and evolution of electronic information products and services for the business community in Spain and second, to analyze the current distribution of today’s market players. Design/methodology/approach – This study is based on a review of the scholarly literature about the information industry, on Spanish annuals and directories about databases, on related legislation, and on the broad experience of the authors who have worked in this field since the 1980s. Findings – The early days of the business information industry in Spain developed precariously, in comparison to other parts of the world. Furthermore, the supply of information was almost entirely monopolized by the public administration. Nevertheless, the structure and market players have been completely reorganized, starting in the 1980s, leading to today’s totally transformed panorama. Originality/value – Three main factors can explain this evolution: first, growth in the creation of new companies; second, processes of mergers and acquisitions; third, recent consolidation of a group of companies that re-use information generated by the public sector. Their activities have been stimulated by legislative initiatives over the past eight years that promote and regulate this market. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
