Introduction Excoriation disorder (ExD) is a pathology recognized by DSM-5, and it is considered a part of the obsessive-compulsive spectrum. ExD is associated with a high rate of psychiatric comorbidity (e.g., depression, ADHD, substance use disorders, etc.). Objectives The main objective of this review was to explore the available evidence to support the diagnosis and treatment of skin picking in elderly population. Methods A literature review of the available sources reporting on ExD in elderly patients, realized by searching three electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Clarivate/Web of Science) but also the grey literature. All papers published between January 1990 and July 2023, including the terms “excoriation disorder”, “compulsive skin picking”, “dermatillomania” and “elderly” or “old-age patients” were reviewed. Results The information about ExD was extracted almost exclusively from reports on elderly patients with neurocognitive disorders. Tactile hallucinations, delusions of contamination, social isolation and focusing on own bodily sensations, and organic causes- dehydration, allergies, renal insufficiency, hepatic and pancreatic diseases, as well as toxic causes- e.g., adverse events of certain drugs should be investigated in elderly patients exhibiting signs of ExD. A differential diagnosis is very important in this population in order to find the most adequate treatment. Behavioral treatments, serotonergic antidepressants, and glutamatergic modulators have been explored in patients with ExD, although specific trials for elderly patients with this disorder are still lacking. However, case reports support the utility of several serotonergic antidepressants in the elderly. Conclusions ExD is a less explored disorder in the elderly, where an extensive differential diagnosis and screening for somatic/psychiatric comorbidities are needed. Trials exploring the potential treatments for ExD in old-age patients are also required for evidence-based case management. Disclosure of Interest None Declared

Introduction Three generations of antipsychotics, all of which are based on the dopaminergic hypothesis of schizophrenia, are available for clinical use. Still, more than 66% of the patients diagnosed with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD) could not achieve remission. Also, the glutamatergic hypothesis of schizophrenia is supported by translational models of this disease, even if the antipsychotics derived from this conceptual framework are not yet available on the market. However, the need for new pathogenesis models for schizophrenia and new generations of antipsychotics is acute, therefore, an exploration of the antipsychotics in the pipeline could be helpful in understanding the current stage of research in schizophrenia. Objectives To assess the evidence supporting the potential benefits of new antipsychotics in the pipeline. Methods A literature review was performed through the main electronic databases PubMed, Cochrane, Clarivate/Web Of Science, and EMBASE) and clinical trials repositories (US National Library of Medicine and World Health Organization Clinical Trials Registry Platform) using the search paradigm “antipsychotics” AND “schizophrenia” AND “non-dopaminergic” AND “non-glutamatergic”. All papers published between January 2010 and September 2022 were included. Results Xanomeline/trospium (xanomeline is a muscarinic M1/M4 receptor agonist at the central nervous system, while trospium limits its peripheral effects) was efficient for schizophrenia in one phase III clinical trial. Pimavanserin (a selective 5HT2A inverse agonist and antagonist) was efficient in improving negative symptoms of schizophrenia in a phase II trial. Roluperidone (a 5HT2A and σ2 receptor antagonist) has been associated with favorable results in phase III clinical trials, mainly on negative symptoms of schizophrenia. SEP-363856 is a TAAR-1 agonist and 5HT1A agonist, currently explored in phase III clinical trials for schizophrenia. MK-8189 is a phosphodiesterase 10A inhibitor, investigated in phase III clinical trials for schizophrenia. Conclusions Based on the retrieved data in the literature, multiple mechanisms, other than glutamatergic and dopaminergic pathways, are currently being investigated, and many of the antipsychotics based on these mechanisms are in the advanced stage of research. This is important not only for the clinical need to find more efficient and tolerable drugs for patients with schizophrenia but also because they may shed new light on the pathogenesis of this disease. Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended in all patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). However, only 50–60% of these patients achieve protective antibody levels if immunized after starting dialysis. Strategies to overcome this low seroconversion rate include a 6-month vaccination schedule starting earlier [chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 4 and 5] to ensure immunity when patients progress to ESKD. We conducted a quality improvement program to immunize pre-dialysis patients. Patients who were found to have a negative baseline serology with a negative hepatitis B surface antibody level (HBsAb) were offered vaccination on a 6-month schedule (0, 1 and 6 months) with one of two available vaccines within the VA system (Recombivax™ or Engerix™). HBsAb titers were checked 3–4 months later, and titers ≥ 12 mIU/mL were indicative of immunity at VA. Patients who did not seroconvert were offered a repeat schedule of three more doses. We screened 198 patients (187 males and 11 females) with CKD 4 and 5 [glomerular filtration rate (GFR) < 29 mL/min/1.73 m2]. The median age of this cohort was 72 years (range 38–92 years). During the study period of 5 years (2015–2020), 10 patients were excluded since their GFR had improved to more than 30 mL/min/1.73 m2, 24 others had baseline immunity and 2 refused vaccination. The hepatitis B vaccination series was not started on 106 patients. Of the remaining 56, 12 patients progressed to ESKD and started dialysis before completion of the vaccination schedule, 6 expired and 1 did not come to clinic in 2020 due to the pandemic. Of the 37 patients who completed the vaccination schedule, 16 achieved seroconversion with adequate HBsAb titers, 10 did not develop immunity despite a second hepatitis B vaccination series, while 11 did not get a second series. Given the low seroconversion rate, albeit in a small cohort, vaccination should be considered in patients with earlier stages of CKD. Other options include studies on FDA approved vaccines of shorter duration. We plan to increase awareness among nephrologists, patients and nursing staff about the importance of achieving immunity against hepatitis B.

Starting in 2005, Romanian education started its true reform in a globalizing context. Universities were assessed based on their performance; as a result, the doctoral education, meant to provide for the future trainers at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, had to re-focus on research. The process was slower in the case of urban planning, due to the fact that publications and citations are not characteristic research outputs of the field. The paper discusses the process of creating the first Romanian doctoral school of urban planning starting from the hypothesis that its new focus required a positivist systemic understanding of urban planning research. The results show that the new approach was productive and well received by the doctoral students, and has a beneficial influence on urban planning in general, increasing its international visibility.

The aim of the present study was to determine postprandial amino acid (AA) appearance in the blood of growing pigs as influenced by protein source. Seven growing pigs (average body weight 18 kg), in a 7 × 5 Youden square design, were fitted with a jugular vein catheter and fed seven diets containing wheat, soybean meal, enzyme-treated soybean meal, hydrothermally-treated rapeseed meal, casein, hydrolyzed casein, and a crystalline AA blend with the same AA profile as casein. The latter was not eaten by the pigs, therefore being excluded. Blood samples were collected at −30, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, and 360 min after a meal and analyzed for free AA. Overall, plasma AA concentrations were highest 60 min after feeding. There were no differences in plasma AA concentration between casein and hydrolyzed casein, but soybean meal resulted in lower AA plasma concentrations compared with enzyme-treated soybean meal at 60 and 120 min after feeding. There were no differences between hydrothermally-treated rapeseed meal and soybean meal. In conclusion, the ingredients could not clearly be categorized as being slow or fast protein with regard to protein digestion and absorption of AA, but soybean meal resulted in a prolonged appearance of plasma AA compared to casein and hydrolyzed casein.

We introduce a limit tower structure on the space of all bounded Radon measures on a completely regular space and we extend the Prohorov's theorem of narrow compactness. In the particular case of Polish spaces, we give a sequential version of this extension.

Wire + Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM®) is an additive manufacturing (AM) process capable of producing near net shape parts while reducing costs and thus gathering increased attention from researchers and manufacturers. Although a significant amount of work has already been published relating to the WAAM processing of stainless steels, it was mainly focused on austenitic stainless steels, with martensitic grades still lacking investigation. AISI 410 is a martensitic stainless steel that, due to its high hardness, demonstrates high wear resistance, being used in parts requiring high resistance to abrasion. Processing this material by WAAM allows for the creation of near net shape parts, leading to a reduction in machining, while at the same time allowing the creation of complex geometries which would be difficult, or outright impossible to obtain otherwise. In this work the effects of different processing parameters on WAAM processed AISI 410 steel, using Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) welding equipment, were investigated, as well as different deposition strategies for the fabrication of a test artifact using an AM software. It was demonstrated that it is possible to process AISI 410 steel by WAAM using an AM software to define deposition strategies and parameters based on the part design and previous experimental trials. The goal to deposit a complex part with high hardness and tensile strength, especially attractive properties to parts requiring high resistance to wear was achieved.
