The objective of this study was to quantify the export of macronutrients by coffee fruits Coffea canephora "Conilon - BRS Ouro Preto," under different doses of the fertilizer formulation 20-00-20 under rainfed conditions, in the Western Amazon. The treatments were six doses of fertilizer 20-00-20, in the proportions: 0; 250; 500; 1,000; 2,000; 3,000 kg ha−1 year−1 and the experimental design was completely randomized with 15 replications. There was a difference for the accumulation of dry mass, content and export of nutrients when comparing straw and grain. The export of nutrients by the grain follows a decreasing order: N > K> Mg > P> Ca > S and the export by straw follows the order: K > N> Ca > Mg > S> P. The doses of the formulation not influence the levels of nutrients in the fruits but promoted an exponential increase in dry mass of grains and straw, with a maximum accumulation of 6,413 kg ha−1 of dry mass of grain and 5,455 kg ha−1 in straw at a dose of 3000 kg ha−1. It is concluded that the doses of fertilizer formulation 20-00-20 do not promote changes in the concentrations of nutrients N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S in the fruits of the coffee tree "Conilon - BRS Ouro Preto." However, it promotes greater accumulation of dry mass in both grains and straw and greater export of nutrients by the fruits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This experiment aimed to evaluate common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) response to different soil pH levels in the presence and absence of inoculation. Three grams of peat based inoculant with 107 viable cells g-1 of Rhizobium tropici II B strain CIAT 899 were mixed with 5 kg soil samples in plastic bags and incubated for 30 days. Part of the inoculated samples was humidified, another part received CaCO3 and MgO to increase pH to 5.0 and 5.5 and a third part received acetic acid to decrease soil pH to 4.0. Before sowing, seeds were disinfected and (a) part of them was inoculated with 1 mL per seed of liquid culture of R. tropici II B CIAT 899 107 UFC mL-1,while the remainder was not inoculated again. Chemical fertility characteristics were determined at each experimental unit before sowing as well as shoot, root system and nodules dry matters, total N, nodule number and size at 21 days after sowing. Linear correlation analyses were done for soil plant and nodulation characteristics at each harvest time. Low soil pH affects more bean plant in the initial growth stages, while the soil-inoculated rhizobium strain survives, nodule beans and shows effective symbiosis, as indicated by plant N contents. The urease inhibitor NBPT(N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide) is a management alternative to increase urea efficiency in topdressing because it reduces NH3 volatilization. The objective of this study was to evaluate N recovery and yield performance of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) 'BRS 254' fertilized with different urea or urea + NBPT rates in topdressing. The experiment was conducted from May to September 2007 in Viçosa, Minas Gérais, Brazil. Treatments followed a 5x2+1 factorial design consisting of five N fertilizer rates (30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 kg ha-1) as urea or urea + NBPT (Agrotain®) applied as topdressing and a control without N. The experiment was a randomized complete block design with four replicates. Adding NBPT to urea resulted in better N utilization by wheat plants. The 100 kg N ha-1 topdressing rate provided the best apparent N recovery by wheat plants, whereas 90 kg ha-1 provided the best N use efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective in this study was to evaluate the effects of nitrogen rates in association with rates of the growth retardant trinexapac-ethyl on wheat. The experiment was conducted in Viçosa, MG and arranged in a 5×4 factorial, randomized block design, with four repetitions. A combination of five nitrogen rates (30, 60, 90, 120 and 150kg ha-1) with four rates of trinexapac-ethyl (0, 62.5, 125 and 187.5g ha-1) were tested. Trinexapac-ethyl promotes reduction of soot dry mass and grain yield at the lowest N rates, but at the highest N rates there is increase in these characteristics. The combination between N and trinexapac-ethyl rates that promotes higher shoot dry mass is 150kg ha-1 and 187g ha-1 but that promotes higher grain yield is 100kg ha-1 and 120g ha-1, respectively.
