Abstract Background Philadelphia chromosome positive (Ph+) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) refers to ALL patients with t(9;22) cytogenetic abnormalities, accounting for about 25% of ALL. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common pathological type of non-small-cell lung cancer, which has a frequency of approximately 45% cases with mutations in EGFR. Both Ph+ ALL and EGFR mutant LUAD are involved in the pathogenesis of the abnormal activation of the tyrosine kinase pathway. Although the second primary hematological malignancy after the treatment of solid tumors is common in clinics, the synchronous multiple primary malignant tumors of hematological malignancy overlap solid tumors are uncommon, even both tumors involved in the pathogenesis of the abnormal activation of the tyrosine kinase pathway are extremely rare. Case presentation An 84-year-old man with fatigue and dizziness was diagnosed with Ph+ ALL. Meanwhile, a chest CT indicated a space-occupying lesions, characterized by the presence of void, in the right lower lope with the enlargement of mediastinal lymph node and right pleural effusion. After a few weeks, the patient was diagnosed with LUAD with EGFR exon 19 mutation. Both tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) (Flumatinib) and EGFR-TKI (Oxertinib) was used for the patients, and finally have controlled both diseases. Conclusion As far as we know, we for the first time reported a case of Ph+ ALL and EGFR mutant LUAD synchronous overlap, of which pathogenesis is related to abnormal tyrosine kinase activation. This patient was successfully treated with two different TKIs without serious adverse events.

Abstract Background There have been previous studies and earlier systematic review on the relationship between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and radiation exposure. With the diversification of current test methods, this study intended to conduct a meta-analysis to evaluate the IBD radiation exposure in recent years. Methods Three databases (PUBMED, EMBASE, and MEDICINE) for relevant literature up to May 1, 2023 were searched. The statistical data meeting requirements were collated and extracted. Results 20 papers were enrolled. The overall high radiation exposure rate was 15% (95% CI = [12%, 19%]) for CD and 5% (95% CI = [3%, 7%]) for UC. The pooled result found that high radiation exposure rate was 3.44 times higher in CD than in UC (OR = 3.44, 95% CI = [2.35, 5.02]). Moreover, the average radiation exposure level in CD was 12.77 mSv higher than that in UC (WMD = 12.77, 95% CI = [9.93, 15.62] mSv). Furthermore, radiation exposure level of CD after 2012 was higher than those before 2012 (26.42 ± 39.61vs. 23.76 ± 38.46 mSv, P = 0.016), while UC did not show similar result (11.99 ± 27.66 vs. 10.01 ± 30.76 mSv, P = 0.1). Through subgroup analysis, it was found that disease duration (WMD = 2.75, 95% CI = [0.10, 5.40] mSv), complications (OR = 5.09, 95% CI = [1.50, 17.29]), and surgical history (OR = 5.46, 95% CI = [1.51, 19.69]) significantly increased the proportion of high radiation exposure. Conclusion This study found that radiation exposure level of IBD patients was high, which revealed the radiation risk in the process of diagnosis and treatment of IBD patients. In the future, longer follow-up and prospective studies are needed to reveal the relationship between high radiation exposure and solid tumorigenesis.

Purpose – The promotion of autonomous vehicles introduces privacy and security risks, underscoring the pressing need for responsible innovation implementation. To more effectively address the societal risks posed by autonomous vehicles, considering collaborative engagement of key stakeholders is essential. This study aims to provide insights into the governance of potential privacy and security issues in the innovation of autonomous driving technology by analyzing the micro-level decision-making processes of various stakeholders. Design/methodology/approach – For this study, the authors use a nuanced approach, integrating key stakeholder theory, perceived value theory and prospect theory. The study constructs a model based on evolutionary game for the privacy and security governance mechanism of autonomous vehicles, involving enterprises, governments and consumers. Findings – The governance of privacy and security in autonomous driving technology is influenced by key stakeholders’ decision-making behaviors and pivotal factors such as perceived value factors. The study finds that the governmental is influenced to a lesser extent by the decisions of other stakeholders, and factors such as risk preference coefficient, which contribute to perceived value, have a more significant influence than appearance factors like participation costs. Research limitations/implications – This study lacks an investigation into the risk sensitivity of various stakeholders in different scenarios. Originality/value – The study delineates the roles and behaviors of key stakeholders and contributes valuable insights toward addressing pertinent risk concerns within the governance of autonomous vehicles. Through the study, the practical application of Responsible Innovation theory has been enriched, addressing the shortcomings in the analysis of micro-level processes within the framework of evolutionary game.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most frequent type of dementia, presenting a substantial danger to the health and well-being of the aged population. It has arisen as a significant public health problem with considerable socioeconomic repercussions. Unfortunately, no effective treatments or diagnostic tools are available for Alzheimer's disease. Despite substantial studies on the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's, the molecular pathways underpinning its development remain poorly understood. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) vary in size from 200 nucleotides to over 100 kilobytes and have been found to play critical roles in various vital biological processes that play critical in developing Alzheimer's disease. This review intends to examine the functions of long non-coding RNAs in diagnosing and treating Alzheimer's disease and their participation in immunological responses associated with AD.

This paper considers the impact of setup time in production scheduling and proposes energy-aware distributed hybrid flow shop scheduling problem with sequence-dependent setup time (EADHFSP-ST) that simultaneously optimizes the makespan and the energy consumption. We develop a mixed integer linear programming model to describe this problem and present a two-stage adaptive memetic algorithm (TAMA) with a surprisingly popular mechanism. First, a hybrid initialization strategy is designed based on the two optimization objectives to ensure the convergence and diversity of solutions. Second, multiple population co-evolutionary approaches are proposed for global search to escape from traditional cross-randomization and to balance exploration and exploitation. Third, considering that the memetic algorithm (MA) framework is less efficient due to the randomness in the selection of local search operators, TAMA is proposed to balance the local and global searches. The first stage accumulates more experience for updating the surprisingly popular algorithm (SPA) model to guide the second stage operator selection and ensures population convergence. The second stage gets rid of local optimization and designs an elite archive to ensure population diversity. Fourth, five problem-specific operators are designed, and non-critical path deceleration and right-shift strategies are designed for energy efficiency. Finally, to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, multiple experiments are performed on a benchmark with 45 instances. The experimental results show that the proposed TAMA can solve the problem effectively.

This study investigates the long-term performance of laboratory dam concrete in different curing environments over ten years and the microstructure of 17-year-old laboratory concrete and actual concrete cores drilled from the Three Gorges Dam. The mechanical properties of the laboratory dam concrete, whether cured in natural or standard environments, continued to improve over time. Furthermore, the laboratory dam concrete exhibited good resistance to diffusion and a refined microstructure after 17 years. However, curing and long-term exposure to the local natural environment reduced the frost resistance. Microstructural analyses of the laboratory concrete samples demonstrated that moderate-heat cement and fine fly ash (FA) particles were almost fully hydrated to form compact microstructures consisting of large quantities of homogeneous calcium (alumino)silicate hydrate (C-(A)-S-H) gels and a few crystals. No obvious interfacial transition zones were observed in the microstructure owing to the long-term pozzolanic reaction. This dense and homogenous microstructure was the crucial reason for the excellent long-term performance of the dam concrete. A high FA volume also played a significant role in the microstructural densification and performance growth of dam concrete at a later age. The concrete drilled from the dam surface exhibited a loose microstructure with higher microporosity, indicating that concrete directly exposed to the actual service environment suffered degradation caused by water and wind attacks. In this study, both macro-performance and microstructural analyses revealed that the application of moderate-heat cement and FA resulted in a dense and homogenous microstructure, which ensured the excellent long-term performance of concrete from the Three Gorges Dam after 17 years. Long-term exposure to an actual service environment may lead to microstructural degradation of the concrete surface. Therefore, the retained long-term dam concrete samples need to be further researched to better understand its microstructural evolution and development of its properties.

Abstract Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a temporally and spatially precisely controllable, noninvasive, and potentially highly efficient method of phototherapy. The three components of PDT primarily include photosensitizers, oxygen, and light. PDT employs specific wavelengths of light to active photosensitizers at the tumor site, generating reactive oxygen species that are fatal to tumor cells. Nevertheless, traditional photosensitizers have disadvantages such as poor water solubility, severe oxygen‐dependency, and low targetability, and the light is difficult to penetrate the deep tumor tissue, which remains the toughest task in the application of PDT in the clinic. Here, we systematically summarize the development and the molecular mechanisms of photosensitizers, and the challenges of PDT in tumor management, highlighting the advantages of nanocarriers‐based PDT against cancer. The development of third generation photosensitizers has opened up new horizons in PDT, and the cooperation between nanocarriers and PDT has attained satisfactory achievements. Finally, the clinical studies of PDT are discussed. Overall, we present an overview and our perspective of PDT in the field of tumor management, and we believe this work will provide a new insight into tumor‐based PDT.

While spent mushroom substrate (SMS) has shown promise in increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) and improving soil quality, research on the interplay between SOC components and microbial community following the application of diverse SMS types remains scant. A laboratory soil incubation experiment was conducted with application of two types of SMSs from cultivation of Pleurotus eryngii (PE) and Agaricus bisporus (AB), each at three application rates (3, 5.5, and 8%). Advanced techniques, including solid-state 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and high-throughput sequencing, were employed to investigate on SOC fractions and chemical structure, microbial community composition and functionality. Compared to SMS-AB, SMS-PE application increased the relative abundances of carbohydrate carbon and O-alkyl C in SOC. In addition, SMS-PE application increased the relative abundance of the bacterial phylum Proteobacteria and those of the fungal phyla Basidiomycota and Ascomycota. The relative abundances of cellulose-degrading bacterial (e.g., Flavisolibacter and Agromyces) and fungal genera (e.g., Myceliophthora, Thermomyces, and Conocybe) were increased as well. The application of SMS-AB increased the aromaticity index of SOC, the relative abundance of aromatic C, and the contents of humic acid and heavy fraction organic carbon. In addition, SMS-AB application significantly increased the relative abundances of the bacterial phyla Firmicutes and Actinobacteria. Notably, the genera Actinomadura, Ilumatobacter, and Bacillus, which were positively correlated with humic acid, experienced an increase in relative abundance. Functional prediction revealed that SMS-PE application elevated carbohydrate metabolism and reduced the prevalence of fungal pathogens, particularly Fusarium. The application of high-rate SMS-AB (8%) enhanced bacterial amino acid metabolism and the relative abundances of plant pathogenic fungi. Our research provides strategies for utilizing SMS to enrich soil organic carbon and fortify soil health, facilitating the achievement of sustainable soil management.

The recently proposed ambient signal-based load modeling approach offers an important and effective idea to study the time-varying and distributed characteristics of power loads. Meanwhile, it also brings new problems. Since the load model parameters of power loads can be obtained in real-time for each load bus, the numerous identified parameters make parameter application difficult. In order to obtain the parameters suitable for off-line applications, load model parameter selection (LMPS) is first introduced in this paper. Meanwhile, the convolution neural network (CNN) is adopted to achieve the selection purpose from the perspective of short-term voltage stability. To begin with, the field phasor measurement unit (PMU) data from China Southern Power Grid are obtained for load model parameter identification, and the identification results of different substations during different times indicate the necessity of LMPS. Meanwhile, the simulation case of Guangdong Power Grid shows the process of LMPS, and the results from the CNN-based LMPS confirm its effectiveness.

Abstract Background There are many predictions about the progression of natural collapse course of osteonecrosis of the femoral head. Here, we aimed to combine the three classical prediction methods to explore the progression of the natural collapse course. Methods This retrospective study included 127 patients admitted to our hospital from October 2016 to October 2017, in whom the femoral head had not collapsed. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the collapse risk factors, and Kaplan–Meier survival curves were used for femoral head survival analysis. The collapse rate of the femoral head was recorded within 5 years based on the matrix model. The specificity of the matrix model was analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results A total of 127 patients with a total of 202 hips were included in this study, and 98 hips collapsed during the follow-up period. Abstract The present-day globalized economy and diverse market demands have compelled an increasing number of manufacturing enterprises to move toward the distributed manufacturing pattern and the model of multi-variety and small-lot. Taking these two factors into account, this study investigates an extension of the distributed hybrid flowshop scheduling problem (DHFSP), called the distributed hybrid flowshop scheduling problem with consistent sublots (DHFSP_CS). To tackle this problem, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model is developed as a preliminary step. The NP-hard nature of the problem necessitates the use of the iterated F-Race (I/F-Race) as the automated algorithm design (AAD) to compose a metaheuristic that requires minimal user intervention. The I/F-Race enables identifying the ideal values of numerical and categorical parameters within a promising algorithm framework. An extension of the collaborative variable neighborhood descent algorithm (ECVND) is utilized as the algorithm framework, which is modified by intensifying efforts on the critical factories. In consideration of the problem-specific characteristics and the solution encoding, the configurable solution initializations, configurable solution decoding strategies, and configurable collaborative operators are designed. Additionally, several neighborhood structures are specially designed. Extensive computational results on simulation instances and a real-world instance demonstrate that the automated algorithm conceived by the AAD outperforms the CPLEX and other state-of-the-art metaheuristics in addressing the DHFSP_CS.

Abstract In contemporary China, sexual minorities (SMs) are still a marginalized community. Prior studies have accorded SMs a great deal of attention, but little research has been conducted on the representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans people in Chinese English-language news media. This article uses corpus linguistic tools to examine popular views on SMs in a larger corpus of 354 news articles, filling the gap in research. Based on data collected from four English-language newspapers in mainland China and informed by discursive strategies, the article concludes that Chinese SMs are prominently represented as unhealthy individuals, but also victims and progressionists. The findings also indicate that conservative and liberal perspectives on SMs co-exist in the English-language newspapers. In addition, potential contributing factors to these representations are discussed.

Microneedles (MNs) can be used for the topical treatment of skin disorders as they directly deliver therapeutics to the site of skin lesions, resulting in increased therapeutic efficacy while having minimum side effects. MNs are used to deliver different kinds of therapeutics (e.g., small molecules, macromolecules, nanomedicines, living cells, bacteria, and exosomes) for treating various skin disorders, including superficial tumors, wounds, skin infections, inflammatory skin diseases, and abnormal skin appearance. The therapeutic efficacy of MNs can be improved by integrating the advantages of multiple therapeutics to perform combination therapy. Through careful designing, MNs can be further modified with biomimetic structures for the responsive drug release from internal and external stimuli and to enhance the transdermal delivery efficiency for robust therapeutic outcomes. Some studies have proposed the use of drug-free MNs as a promising mechanotherapeutic strategy to promote wound healing, scar removal, and hair regeneration via a mechanical communication pathway. Although MNs have several advantages, the practical application of MNs suffers from problems related to industrial manufacture and clinical evaluation, making it difficult for clinical translation. In this study, we summarized the various applications, emerging challenges, and developmental prospects of MNs in skin disorders to provide information on ways to advance clinical translation.

Abstract Our previous study demonstrated that tumor-suppressor circular RNAs (circRNAs) can be specifically secreted outside of colorectal cancer (CRC) cells within exosomes to maintain tumor cell fitness. However, whether tumor-driving circRNAs can be specifically retained in cells to facilitate tumor progression remains unknown. In this study, circRNA-seq showed that circSKA3 was significantly upregulated in CRC tissues but downregulated in serum samples from CRC patients. In addition, circSKA3 promoted CRC progression in vitro and in vivo and was retained in CRC cells via a specific cellmotif element. Interestingly, the cellmotif element was also the site of interaction of circSKA3 with SLUG, which inhibited SLUG ubiquitination degradation and promoted CRC epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Moreover, FUS was identified as a key circularization regulator of circSKA3 that bound to the key element. Finally, we designed and synthesized specific antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) targeting circularization and cellmotif elements, which repressed circSKA3 expression, abolished the SLUG–circSKA3 interaction, and further inhibited CRC EMT and metastasis in vitro and in vivo.

Polymer oxidation affects the molecular structure and decides the performances, making its rapid and sensitive diagnosis important for evaluating the state of polymer materials and predicting its service life. In this study, fluorometric analysis of the oxidation of hyperbranched polyethyleneimine is realized by Schiff-base reaction. The sensing mechanism is due to the oxidation-mediated generation of oxygen-containing groups, which react with residual primary amine and produce fluorescent Schiff-base compounds. Four hPEIs with different molecular weight possess similar fluorescence variation during oxidation, demonstrating the universality of the proposed technique. Moreover, the successful quality assessment of hPEI verifies the practical application of the proposed fluorescence-based self-diagnosis technique.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a sand fly-borne infection of significant public health concern in Pakistan (endemic for CL). This study aimed to scrutinize the environmental and socio-economic risk factors for CL in district Khyber (located on Pak-Afghan border), Pakistan. Clinically confirmed 2881 CL case records for (January–December) 2017 and 2020 were obtained from district hospital. In addition, a questionnaire for CL risk factors assessment was administered to 525 households (175 in 2017 and 350 in 2020) in 40 villages throughout the district in a household survey. Higher number of CL cases were recorded in 2020 (N = 1824 belonging to 90 villages) compared to 2017 (N = 1057 from 42 villages). Highest number of CL patient cases were recorded in tehsil Jamrud (N = 2248, 39.01 %), followed by Landi Kotal (N = 398, 6.91 %) and Bara (N = 235, 4.08 %). Records showed higher number of CL cases in males (N = 1,659, 57.58 %) compared to females (N = 1,222, 42.41 %). In 2017 and 2020 the disease burden peaked in January. GIS-based spatial analyses of hospital records revealed that CL cases were abundant at 294-1,916 m elevation, in agriculture and range lands. Univariate logistic regression model analysis of risk factors suggested that higher education, family size >15, knowledge of CL, having family member/s that suffered from CL in the past, knowledge about biting time of sand flies, use of mosquito spray, presence of Afghan refugees in the village/s and living in mud-made houses increased the risk of acquiring CL. The multivariable logistic regression model showed none of the risk factors to be statistically significant. Findings of the study are crucial towards effective and targeted control of CL in district Khyber.

Abstract Aims To investigate the characteristics and diagnostic performance of quantitative computed tomography (QCT) parameters in eosinophilic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Methods High‐resolution CT scans of COPD patients were retrospectively analyzed, and various emphysematous parenchyma measurements, including lung volume (LC), lung mean density (LMD), lung standard deviation (LSD), full‐width half maximum (FWHM), and lung relative voxel number (LRVN) were performed. The QCT parameters were compared between eosinophilic and noneosinophilic COPD patients, using a definition of eosinophilic COPD as blood eosinophil values ≥ 300 cells·µL−1 on at least three times. Receiver operating characteristic curves and area under the curve (ROC‐AUC) and python were used to evaluate discriminative efficacy of QCT. Results Noneosinophilic COPD patients had a significantly lower TLMD (−846.3 ± 47.9 Hounsfield Unit [HU]) and TFWHM(162.5 ± 30.6 HU) compared to eosinophilic COPD patients (−817.8 ± 54.4, 177.3 ± 33.1 HU, respectively) (p = 0.018, 0.03, respectively). Moreover, the total LC (TLC) and TLSD were significantly lower in eosinophilic COPD group (3234.4 ± 1145.8, 183.8 ± 33.9 HU, respectively) than the noneosinophilic COPD group (5600.2 ± 1248.4, 203.5 ± 20.4 HU, respectively) (p = 0.009, 0.002, respectively). The ROC‐AUC values for TLC, TLMD, TLSD, and TFWHM were 0.91 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.828–0.936), 0.66 (95% CI, 0.546–0.761), 0.64 (95% CI, 0.524–0.742), and 0.63 (95% CI, 0.511–0.731), respectively. When the TLC value was 4110 mL, the sensitivity was 90.7% (95% CI, 79.7–96.9), specificity was 77.8% (95% CI, 57.7–91.4) and accuracy was 86.4%. Notably, TLC demonstrated the highest discriminative efficiency with an F1 Score of 0.79, diagnostic Odds Ratio of 34.3 and Matthews Correlation Coefficient of 0.69, surpassing TLMD (0.55, 3.66, 0.25), TLSD (0.56, 3.95, 0.26), and TFWHM (0.56, 4.16, 0.33). Conclusion Eosinophilic COPD patients exhibit lower levels of emphysema and a more uniform density distribution throughout the lungs compared to noneosinophilic COPD patients. Furthermore, TLC demonstrated the highest diagnostic efficiency and may serve as a valuable diagnostic marker for distinguishing between the two groups.

Background: Necroptosis could regulate immunity in cancers, and stratification of colorectal cancer (CRC) subtypes based on key genes related to necroptosis might be a novel strategy for CRC treatment. Method: The RNA-sequencing data of CRC and other 31 types of cancers were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Consensus clustering was performed based on protein-coding genes (PCGs) related to necroptosis score calculated by single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA). Module genes showing a significant positive correlation with the necroptosis score were identified by weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) and further used to develop a risk stratification model applying least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and Cox regression analysis. The risks score for each sample in CRC cohorts, immunotherapy cohorts and pan-cancer study cohorts was calculated. Result: Two subgroups (C1 cluster and C2 cluster) of CRC were identified based on the necroptosis score. Compared with C1 cluster, the survival possibility of C2 cluster was greatly reduced, the levels of necroptosis score, immune cell infiltration, immune score and expression of immune checkpoint molecules were significantly increased and immunotherapy response was less active. Low-risk patients defined by the risk model had a significant survival advantage than high-risk counterparts in both CRC and the other 31 cancer types. Furthermore, the risk model was also more efficient than the Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE) tool in predicting OS and immunotherapy response for the samples in the immunotherapy cohort. Conclusion: CRC patients were classified by necroptosis score-related PCGs, and a risk model was designed to evaluate the immunotherapy and prognosis of patients with CRC. The current molecular subtype and prognostic model could help stratify patients with different risks and predict their prognosis and immunotherapy sensitivity.

The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is a new type of energy vehicle that has extremely high demands for vehicle energy consumption management. This study aims to achieve refined energy management of PHEVs, while avoiding high-energy consumption associated with independent control of the thermal management system. For this purpose, a reliable co-simulation platform based on a particular PHEV energy and thermal management system architecture is developed. The platform aims to optimize engine fuel consumption and ensure the stability of the coolant temperature. This study introduces the NSGA-II genetic algorithm to the field of vehicle R&D to collaboratively control the rotary speed of the pump and fan, which highly accelerating the vehicle development cycle. The results show that the optimized algorithm for engine thermal management system efficiently improved fuel economy under dynamics driving conditions. Under SFTP-US06 conditions, the fuel consumption of the PHEV reduced by 0.46L/100 km, resulting in a fuel-saving rate of 5.67%, and the average power of low-voltage accessories was reduced by 81.81%.The approach used in this research can increase the accuracy of the virtual calibration and help shorten the automotive development cycle.

Abstract Objective This aimed to evaluate the status of return to work (RTW) in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods The baseline characteristics of all patients in this retrospective study were obtained from the hospital patient database. The relevant changes in patients' working conditions, as well as the numerical rating scale (NRS), Harris Hip Score (HHS), self-assessment of work ability, and Likert scale satisfaction assessment were obtained through video call follow-ups. Results 118 patients (response rate: 83%) were ultimately included in this study. The average length of time for the patients to stop working preoperatively was 20.7 weeks. Ninety-four patients (24 women and 70 men) who underwent THA had RTW status, with a mean RTW time of 21.0 weeks. Men had a significantly higher proportion of final RTW and a significantly faster RTW than women. Significant differences in smoking, drinking, cardiovascular diseases, changes in working levels, variations in the types of physical work, changes in working hours, and pain symptoms were observed between the RTW and Non-RTW populations. The patients with a positive RTW status had higher postoperative HHS scores, lower postoperative NRS scores, and higher self-assessment of work ability than patients who had a negative RTW status. Conclusion Ultimately, 80% of patients achieved RTW status. Drinking, sex, change in working level, variation in the type of physical work, change in working hours, post-surgery HHS score and self-assessment of work ability can serve as predictive factors for RTW.

Abstract Computational techniques can speed up the identification of hits and accelerate the development of candidate molecules for drug discovery. Among techniques for predicting relative binding affinities, the most consistently accurate is free energy perturbation (FEP), a class of rigorous physics-based methods. However, uncertainty remains about how accurate FEP is and can ever be. Here, we present what we believe to be the largest publicly available dataset of proteins and congeneric series of small molecules, and assess the accuracy of the leading FEP workflow. To ascertain the limit of achievable accuracy, we also survey the reproducibility of experimental relative affinity measurements. We find a wide variability in experimental accuracy and a correspondence between binding and functional assays. When careful preparation of protein and ligand structures is undertaken, FEP can achieve accuracy comparable to experimental reproducibility. Throughout, we highlight reliable protocols that can help maximize the accuracy of FEP in prospective studies.

Abstract Graphitic carbon nitride is a promising material as an electrode material for advanced electrochemical energy storage devices because of its controllable structure, physicochemical properties, and abundant active sites. However, its intrinsic properties as electrode materials can not be fully expressed owing to limited electrical properties, which impede charge transfer and material exchange inside devices. During the past decade, the challenge has been addressed through material engineering strategies, such as exfoliation and composition, and then advanced energy devices, such as supercapacitors, have been assembled. In this regard, a timely review of graphitic carbon nitride for high‐performance supercapacitors requires to be put forward for summarizing past studies and inspiring future research works as well. This review article summarizes recent progress in material synthesis and property regulation of graphitic carbon nitride nanomaterials and their application in assembling advanced supercapacitors with high energy density and superior working stability. Finally, based on existing research and our experimental experience, a perspective for directing future research has been presented concerning material synthesis and electrochemical application of graphitic carbon nitride.

Abstract The study was design to investigate the functional roles of Wilms tumor 1-associated protein (WTAP), an enzyme catalyzes m6A modification, in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA) and further elucidate its possible regulatory mechanism. Herein, we discovered that WTAP was outstandingly upregulated in chondrocyte stimulated with Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and cartilage tissue of patients with OA. Functional studies have demonstrated that WTAP knockdown enhances proliferation ability, suppresses apoptosis, and reduces extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation in an LPS—induced OA chondrocyte injury model and ameliorates cartilage damage in a destabilizing the medial meniscus (DMM)—induced OA mice model. Conversely, overexpression of WTAP contributes to the opposite effects. Mechanistically, our data has demonstrated that m6A modification mediated by WTAP promotes the maturation of pri-miR-92b to miR-92b-5p, thereby enhancing the targeted inhibitory function of miR-92b-5p on TIMP4. Furthermore, we have discovered that WTAP can directly facilitate the degradation of TIMP4 mRNAs in a YTHDF2-dependent manner. In a nutshell, our findings suggested that WTAP knockdown alleviated OA progression by modulating the miR-92b-5p/TIMP4 axis in an m6A-dependent manner. Our study disclosed that WTAP-mediated m6A modification displayed a crucial role in OA development and suggested that targeting WTAP could be a promising preventive and therapeutic target for patients with OA. Abstract It remains a great challenge to engineer materials with strong and stable interactions for the simultaneously mechanical-robust and room temperature phosphorescence-efficient materials. In this work, we demonstrate a covalent cross-linking strategy to engineer mechanical-robust room temperature phosphorescence materials through the B–O click reaction between chromophores, polyvinyl alcohol matrix and inorganic layered double hydroxide nanosheets. Through the covalent cross-linkage between the organic polyvinyl alcohol and inorganic layered double hydroxide, a polymeric composite with ultralong lifetime up to 1.45 s is acquired based on the inhibited non-radiative transition of chromophores. Simultaneously, decent mechanical strength of 97.9 MPa can be realized for the composite materials due to the dissipated loading stress through the covalent-bond-accommodated interfacial interaction. These cross-linked composites also exhibit flexibility, processability, scalability and phosphorescence responses towards the mechanical deformation. It is anticipated that the proposed covalent click reaction could provide a platform for the design and modulation of composites with multi-functionality and long-term durability.

Background Stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) exhibits profound tumor heterogeneity and represents a great therapeutic challenge. Single-cell sequencing technology is a powerful tool to identify characteristic cell types. Methods Single-cell sequencing data (scRNA-seq) GSE167297 and bulk RNA-seq data from TCGA, GTEx, GSE26901 and GSE15459 database were included in this study. By downscaling and annotating the cellular data in scRNA-seq, critical cell types in tumor progression were identified by AUCell score. Relevant gene modules were then identified by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). A prognostic scoring system was constructed by identifying prognostic factors in STAD by Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) COX model. The prognosis and model performance in the RiskScore groups were measured by Kaplan-Meier (K-M) curves and Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Nomogram was drawn based on RiskScore and prognosis-related clinical factors. In addition, we evaluated patient’s feedback on immunotherapy in the RiskScore groups by TIMER, ESTIMATE and TIDE analysis. Finally, the expression levels of prognostic factors were verified in gastric cancer cell lines (MKN7 and MKN28) and human normal gastric mucosal epithelial cells (GES-1), and the effects of prognostic factors on the viability of gastric cancer cells were examined by the CCK8 assay and cell cycle. Results scRNA-seq analysis revealed that 11 cell types were identified, and macrophages exhibited relatively higher AUCell scores and specifically expressed CD14 and FCGR3A. High macrophage scores worsened the prognosis of STAD patients. We intersected the specifically expressed genes in macrophages subgroups (670) and macrophage module genes (2,360) obtained from WGCNA analysis. Among 86 common genes, seven prognostic factors (RGS2, GNAI2, ANXA5, MARCKS, CD36, NRP1 and PDE4A) were identified and composed a RiskScore model. Patients in low Risk group showed a better survival advantage. Nomogram also provided a favorable prediction for survival at 1, 3 and 5 years in STAD patients. Besides, we found positive feedback to immunotherapy in patients with low RiskScore. The expression tendency of the seven prognostic factors in MKN7 and MKN28 was consistent with that in the RNA-seq data in addition to comparison of protein expression levels in the public HPA (The Human Protein Atlas) database. Further functional exploration disclosed that MARCKS was an important prognostic factor in regulating cell viability in STAD. Conclusion This study preliminary uncovered a single cell atlas for STAD patients, and Macrophages relevant gene signature and nomogram displayed favorable immunotherapy and prognostic prediction ability. Collectively, our work provides a new insight into the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic approach for LUAD patients.

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an aggressive and rare form of breast cancer with a poor prognosis. The occurrence of bilateral IBC in a short period of time is extremely rare. In this case report, a 54-year-old woman diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma of the left breast underwent lumpectomy, lymph node dissection, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy but opted against trastuzumab treatment. Four years later, she experienced bilateral breast inflammation, skin changes, edema, and heat (calor). Biopsies confirmed breast cancer metastasis to both breasts. Whole-Exome Sequencing revealed genetic mutations, including PIK3CA and C4orf54, in both primary and recurrent tumors, with significant downregulation in the recurrent tumors. KEGG analysis suggested potential enrichment of axon guidance signal pathways in both tumors. The patient showed a partial response after treatment with liposome paclitaxel, along with targeted therapy using trastuzumab and pertuzumab. This case report sheds light on the rare occurrence of bilateral inflammatory breast cancer post-HER-2 treatment and highlights the importance of genetic profiling in understanding the disease. Further research on clinical targets for breast cancer management is warranted.

Summary: The interplay between metabolism and chromatin signaling is implicated in cancer progression. However, whether and how metabolic reprogramming in tumors generates chromatin vulnerabilities remain unclear. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tumors frequently harbor aberrant activation of the NRF2 antioxidant pathway, which drives aggressive and chemo-resistant disease. Using a chromatin-focused CRISPR screen, we report that NRF2 activation sensitizes LUAD cells to genetic and chemical inhibition of class I histone deacetylases (HDACs). This association is observed across cultured cells, mouse models, and patient-derived xenografts. Integrative epigenomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic analysis demonstrates that HDAC inhibition causes widespread redistribution of H4ac and its reader protein, which transcriptionally downregulates metabolic enzymes. This results in reduced flux into amino acid metabolism and de novo nucleotide synthesis pathways that are preferentially required for the survival of NRF2-active cancer cells. Together, our findings suggest NRF2 activation as a potential biomarker for effective repurposing of HDAC inhibitors to treat solid tumors.

Background: Helicobacter pylori infection is very common worldwide, and about 10%–16% of these patients develop peptic ulcer disease. However, there is limited research on the impact of H. pylori eradication and peptic ulcer disease treatment sequencing. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of adult patients diagnosed with H. pylori infection and peptic ulcer disease between October 2020 and April 2021 at our center. Data on primary treatment outcomes, including H. pylori eradication and peptic ulcer disease healing, were collected, and factors that may influence treatment outcomes were analyzed. Results: A total of 306 patients were included in this study. The sequence of H. pylori eradication and peptic ulcer disease treatment did not significantly affect the outcomes of H. pylori eradication and peptic ulcer disease healing. In addition, patient age, peptic ulcer disease type, clinic type and treatment regimen (including choice of proton pump inhibitor) had no significant impact on H. pylori eradication. However, patient gender and the choice of antibiotic combination proved to be key factors, as eradication rates were lower in female patients compared to males, and the combination of levofloxacin and clarithromycin was the least effective in eradicating H. pylori . Regarding peptic ulcer disease healing, the peptic ulcer disease type was an important influencing factor, since gastric ulcers being more likely to get cured completely compared to duodenal ulcers. Conclusions: The sequence of H. pylori eradication and peptic ulcer disease treatment does not significantly affect the primary outcomes. Patient gender and the choice of antibiotic combination are important factors in H. pylori eradication, whereas peptic ulcer disease type plays a key role in ulcer healing.

Background: Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4) is an immunosuppressive checkpoint that is involved in the development and metastasis of cancers. Several studies revealed that CTLA-4 rs231775A/G polymorphism may be associated with the risk of cancer in some populations, but the conclusions of these studies are not consistent. Methods: We conducted a pooled analysis with eligible studies to explore the association between the CTLA-4 rs231775 variant and cancer risk. Additionally, we used in silico tools to evaluated the expression of CTLA-4 on urinary system cancer. Moreover, we adopted the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) to investigate the effects of CTLA-4 on bladder cancer (BLCA). Results: In total, 92 case-control studies involving 29,987 patients with cancer and 36,484 healthy individuals (controls) were included in the pooled analysis. In the stratified analysis based on cancer type, the rs231775 A/G polymorphism was associated with increased bladder cancer risk in the heterozygote contrast model (OR = 1.23, 95% CI = 1.01–1.51, P = 0.040). The race-stratified analysis revealed that East Asians with the GG genotype had a 12% lower risk of developing cancer than those with the GA + AA genotype (95% CI = 0.81–0.95, P = 0.001). The in silico analysis showed that CTLA-4 expression was augmented in patients with BLCA. The ELISA results revealed that CTLA-4 expression was reduced in patients with BLCA carrying the AA genotype. Several signaling pathways, including cytokine-cytokine receptor interactions and T-cell receptor signaling, were associated with CTLA-4 expression. Conclusion: The CTLA-4 rs231775 A/G polymorphism is associated with cancer risk in East Asian population. This polymorphism is especially associated with BLCA.

This study aimed to understand the prevalence of hyperuricemia and MetS in the United States and evaluate the potential effect of gender and ethnicity on hyperuricemia and MetS. Data was obtained from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2011 and 2018. Logistic regression analysis was utilized to investigate the association between hyperuricemia and MetS. A total of 7273 participants with an average age of 47.59 ± 16.92 years old were enrolled in our analysis. Of all the people, 1833 were diagnosed with MetS, with which 547 (29.8 %) were found with hyperuricemia. As for gender, 261 (28.3 %) females were with both Mets and hyperuricemia and this number came to 286 (31.4 %) for males.For population distribution, Non-Hispanic American white, and Hispanic American making up 61.2 % of the cohort. The logistic regression analysis showed that there was a significant association between MetS and hyperuricemia (OR = 2.608, 95 %CI: 2.281–2.982). And the relationship still existed between both males (OR = 2.172, 95 %CI: 1.829–2.579) and females (OR = 3.464, 95 %CI: 2.868–4.185); in addition, participant’s ethnicity was also found to play an important role. And the association was found either in Hispanic Americans Non-Hispanic Americans White and black or from other races. In conclusion, our study found a significant association between hyperuricemia and MetS. The higher the uric acid level, the greater risk of people getting MetS and this risk was not influenced by people’s gender and ethnicity.

Abstract Interplay between chromatin-associated complexes and modifications critically contribute to the partitioning of epigenome into stable and functionally distinct domains. Yet there is a lack of systematic identification of chromatin crosstalk mechanisms, limiting our understanding of the dynamic transition between chromatin states during development and disease. Here we perform co-dependency mapping of genes using CRISPR-Cas9-mediated fitness screens in pan-cancer cell lines to quantify gene-gene functional relationships. We identify 145 co-dependency modules and further define the molecular context underlying the essentiality of these modules by incorporating mutational, epigenome, gene expression and drug sensitivity profiles of cell lines. These analyses assign new protein complex composition and function, and predict new functional interactions, including an unexpected co-dependency between two transcriptionally counteracting chromatin complexes - polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2) and MLL-MEN1 complex. We show that PRC2-mediated H3K27 tri-methylation regulates the genome-wide distribution of MLL1 and MEN1. In lymphoma cells with EZH2 gain-of-function mutations, the re-localization of MLL-MEN1 complex drives oncogenic gene expression and results in a hypersensitivity to pharmacologic inhibition of MEN1. Together, our findings provide a resource for discovery of trans-regulatory interactions as mechanisms of chromatin regulation and potential targets of synthetic lethality.

Abstract Background Recurrence after resection is the main factor for poor survival. The relationship between clinicopathological factors and recurrence after curative distal pancreatectomy for PDAC has rarely been reported separately. Methods Patients with PDAC after left‑sided pancreatectomy between May 2015 and August 2021 were retrospectively identified. Results One hundred forty-one patients were included. Recurrence was observed in 97 patients (68.8%), while 44 (31.2%) patients had no recurrence. The median RFS was 8.8 months. The median OS was 24.9 months. Local recurrence was the predominant first detected recurrence site (n = 36, 37.1%), closely followed by liver recurrence (n = 35, 36.1%). Multiple recurrences occurred in 16 (16.5%) patients, peritoneal recurrence in 6 (6.2%) patients, and lung recurrence in 4 (4.1%) patients. High CA19-9 value after surgery, poor differentiation grade, and positive lymph nodes were found to be independently associated with recurrence. The patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy had a decreased likelihood of recurrence. In the high CA19-9 value cohort, the median PFS and OS of the patients with or without chemotherapy were 8.0 VS. 5.7 months and 15.6 VS. 13.8 months, respectively. In the normal CA19-9 value cohort, there was no significant difference in PFS with or without chemotherapy (11.7 VS. 10.0 months, P = 0.147). However, OS was significantly longer in the patients with chemotherapy (26.4 VS. 13.8 months, P = 0.019). Conclusions Tumor biologic characteristics, such as T stage, tumor differentiation and positive lymph nodes, affecting CA19-9 value after surgery are associated with patterns and timing of recurrence. Adjuvant chemotherapy significantly reduced recurrence and improved survival. Chemotherapy is strongly recommended in patients with high CA199 after surgery.

The Eastern Kunlun Fault (EKF) is situated in an area with a history of significant seismic events, yet it has witnessed a dearth of major earthquakes in recent years. This study conducted a detailed analysis of the hydrogeochemical characteristics of the springs in the EKF and their temporal variation, aiming to address the gaps in the research on the hydrogeochemistry in the region and to investigate the changes in water chemistry during the seismogenic process. In this study, the main elements, trace elements, hydrogen isotopes, oxygen isotopes, and strontium isotopes of 23 springs in the EKF were analyzed. The results indicated that the groundwater recharge in the eastern part of the Eastern Kunlun Fault Zone mainly originates from atmospheric precipitation, as supported by its isotopic characteristics. The spring water is immature, showing weak water–rock interactions. A hydrochemical analysis classified the springs into 11 main types, reflecting varying degrees of water–rock interaction. Based on measurements using quartz geothermometers, the estimated geothermal reservoir temperatures ranged from 39.6 to 120.3 °C, with circulation depths of 1.3 to 3.8 km. By means of regularly monitoring three selected springs, this study also explored the relationship between earthquakes and hot spring chemical variations. Finally, a conceptual model of hydrogeochemistry was proposed to describe the groundwater circulation in the study area.

Helium is a scarce strategic resource. Currently, all economically valuable helium resources are found in natural gas reservoirs. Owing to helium’s different formation and migration processes compared to natural gas’s, the traditional method of collecting wellhead gas to detect helium concentration may miss helium-rich layers in the vertical direction, which will not only cause the waste of helium resources, but also restrict the study of helium migration and accumulation mechanisms. To solve this problem, we designed a helium detector based on a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Through the combination of different inlet valves, we avoided gas mixing between different vertical layers during the inlet process and realized high-spatial-resolution helium concentration detection. We applied the helium detector to the Dongsheng gas field in the northern Ordos Basin, and the instrumental detection results were consistent with the laboratory analysis results of the wellhead gas, which demonstrated the stability of the helium detector in the field environment and the reliability of the data. Meanwhile, the results showed that the distribution of helium in the plane is highly heterogeneous, and the natural gas dessert layers and the helium dessert layers do not coincide in the vertical direction. In addition, we found a good correlation between helium and hydrogen concentrations. Combining our results with previous data, we propose a hydrogen–helium migration and accumulation model, which enriches the understanding of helium accumulation mechanisms and provides a basis for future helium resource exploration.

The convenient construction of carbon-based electrochemical immunosensors with high performance is highly desirable for the efficient detection of tumor biomarkers. In this work, an electrochemical immunosensor was fabricated by integrating a biofunctionalized mesoporous silica nanochannel film with a carbon-based electrode, which can enable the sensitive determination of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in serum. The commonly used carbonaceous electrode, glassy carbon electrode (GCE), was employed as the supporting electrode and was pre-treated through electrochemical polarization to achieve the stable binding of a vertically ordered mesoporous silica film with amino groups (NH2-VMSF) without the use of any adhesive layer. To fabricate the immunorecognition interface, antibodies were covalently immobilized after the amino groups on the outer surface of NH2-VMSF was derivatized to aldehyde groups. The presence of amino sites within the high-density nanochannels of NH2-VMSF can facilitate the migration of negatively charged redox probes (Fe(CN)63-/4-) to the supporting electrode through electrostatic adsorption, leading to the generation of electrochemical signals. In the presence of CEA, the formation of immunocomplexes on the recognitive interface can reduce the electrochemical signal of Fe(CN)63-/4- on the supporting electrode. Based on this principle, the sensitive electrochemical detection of CEA was achieved. CEA can be determined to range from 0.01 ng mL−1 to 100 ng mL−1 with a limit of detection of 6.3 pg mL−1. The fabricated immunosensor exhibited high selectivity, and the detection of CEA in fetal bovine serum was achieved.

Abstract Objectives Increasing evidence have demonstrated the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays critical roles in osteoarthritis (OA) progression, but the role of m6A in OA has not been completely illuminated. Herein, we investigated the function and underlying mechanism of m6A demethylase fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) in OA progression. Materials and methods The FTO expression was detected in mice OA cartilage tissues and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated chondrocytes. Gain-of-function assays was used to evaluate the role of FTO in OA cartilage injury in vitro and in vivo. The miRNA-sequencing, RNA-binding protein immunoprecipitation (RIP), luciferase reporter assay, and in vitro pri-miRNA processing assays were conducted to confirm that FTO modulated the pri-miR-3591 process in an m6A-dependent manner and then the binding sites of miR-3591-5p with PRKAA2. Results FTO was outstandingly downregulated in LPS-stimulated chondrocytes and OA cartilage tissues. FTO overexpression enhanced the proliferation, suppressed apoptosis, and decreased degradation of extracellular matrix in LPS-induced chondrocytes, whereas FTO knockdown contributed to the opposite effects. In vivo animal experiments showed that FTO overexpression markedly alleviated OA mice cartilage injury. Mechanically, FTO-mediated m6A demethylation of pri-miR-3591 leaded to a maturation block of miR-3591-5p, which relieved the inhibitory effect of miR-3591-5p on PRKAA2 and then promoted the increase of PRKAA2, thereby alleviating OA cartilage damage. Conclusions Our results attested that FTO alleviated the OA cartilage damage by mediating FTO/miR-3591-5p/PRKAA2 axis, which provided fresh insights into the therapeutic strategies for OA.

Abstract The distribution networks have more frequent and fast voltage fluctuations with the large‐scale access of distributed energy resources and electric vehicles. Based on remote terminal unit (RTU) and distribution terminal unit (DTU), traditional hierarchical control methods are difficult to achieve rapid global coordinated voltage regulation due to static modeling. For this purpose, this paper proposes an integrated dynamic voltage control strategy which integrates the objectives of local voltage control and secondary voltage control. First, simplified dynamic models of controllable equipment in active distribution network are established instead of the static models. On this basis, the state‐space prediction model of the control system is established. Then, based on the improved model predictive control (IMPC), the integrated dynamic voltage control strategy realizes rapid and global coordinated control through state prediction, rolling optimization and real‐time feedback correction. Numerical results show that the proposed strategy can achieve fast global coordinated voltage control in the time scale of seconds.

Abstract Background Hemispherectomy is an effective treatment option for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy caused by hemispheric lesions. However, patients often have deterioration of their motor functions postoperatively. Diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) was reliable in presenting the natural shape of the white matter fibers. At the same time, the natural sprawl pyramid tract (PT) might be more intuitive for predicting postoperative motor functions. Therefore, we assessed the motor functions by the natural shape revealed by DSI tractography. Methods Ten children with drug-resistant epilepsy who were candidates for hemispherectomy performed DSI PTs tractography and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for motor mapping. The motor function was evaluated with muscle strength and hand grasping capability. Pyramidal tract (PT) structural integrity and TMS mapping results were compared between patients who remained stable and those with deteriorated motor functions. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves with PTs asymmetric ratio were analyzed to evaluate DSI tractography diagnostic value. Results All patients underwent DSI acquisition, while four patients successfully performed TMS. One patient had no response to TMS until the maximal machine output was reached. Four patients failed to perform TMS due to lacking cooperation. One patient was contraindicated to TMS. DSI successfully reconstructed the sharp angle fan-shaped PTs within the hemisphere. The accurate fiber distribution with fiber termination and thickness within the lesioned hemisphere was replicated with DSI tractography. No significance was found in patients’ age, sex, seizure frequency, or medication between patients with stable or deteriorated postoperative motor functions. DSI effectively predicted postoperative motor function as stable with damaged PTs, mild deterioration with atrophied PTs, and intact PTs with contralateral innervation confirmed by intracranial stimulation. The area under the curve (AUC) of DSI tractography was 0.84. According to ROC, the cut-off value of PTs asymmetric ratio was 11.5% with 100% sensitivity and 75% specificity. The sensitivity and specificity of TMS were 2/3 and 1/2, respectively. Conclusions The anatomic integrity of PTs with DSI tractography could effectively predict postoperative motor function after hemispherectomy. This enables neurosurgeons to inform patients and relatives about postoperative motor functions with direct morphological evidence of PTs to help them with their surgical decisions.

Abstract The development of green and simple chemiluminescence (CL) systems with intensive and long‐lasting emission is highly desirable in lighting and extension of their applications. In this study, it is found that the involvement of aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) surfactant could greatly enhance the CL of luminol–H2O2–Co2+ system. The inserted hydrophobic tetraphenylethylene fluorophore in AIE is able to increase the hydrophobicity of alkyl chain and decrease the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of surfactant. The synergistic effect of micelle‐improved enrichment and CL resonance energy transfer endows luminol–H2O2–Co2+ system intensive and long‐lasting emission under neutral pH conditions (pH 7.4). The visible emission is still observed even after 60 min. Our study has opened a new avenue for exploring green and simple effective CL systems through AIE surfactant with unltralow CMC toward various applications in lighting, optical sensing, and photocatalysis, etc.

With the gradual expansion of the protected vegetable planting area, dense planting stubbles and increasing labor cost, the treatment of vegetable residues has become an urgent problem to be solved. Soil bacterial community structure plays an important role in vegetable residue return and is susceptible to environmental changes. Therefore, understanding the influences of different soil water holding capacities on plant residue decomposition and soil bacterial communities is important for biodegradation. During the whole incubation period, the weight loss ratio of plant residue with 100% water holding capacity was 69.60 to 75.27%, which was significantly higher than that with 60% water holding capacity in clay and sandy soil, indicating that high water holding capacity promoted the decomposition of plant residue. The degradation of lignin and cellulose was also promoted within 14 days. Furthermore, with the increase in soil water holding capacity, the contents of NH4+ increased to 5.36 and 4.54 times the initial value in the clay and sandy soil, respectively. The increase in napA and nrfA resulted in the conversion of NO3– into NH4+. The increase in water holding capacity made the bacterial network structure more compact and changed the keystone bacteria. The increase in water holding capacity also increased the relative abundance of Firmicutes at the phylum level and Symbiobacterium, Clostridium at the genus level, which are all involved in lignin and cellulose degradation and might promote their degradation. Overall, these findings provide new insight into the effects of different soil water holding capacities on the degradation of plant residues in situ and the corresponding bacterial mechanisms.

Abstract Arranging dense donors around a single acceptor for the assembly of efficient light‐harvesting antennas is a long‐standing challenge due to the intractable aggregation‐caused quenching of dense donors. Herein, we designed a cationic aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) amphiphile to self‐assemble with natural DNA duplexes. As an efficient donor, the as‐prepared cationic AIE amphiphile could be densely attached to the phosphate groups of natural DNA duplexes by using the smaller cationic trimethylammonium. The long alkyl chain between the cationic trimethylammonium and the AIE fluorophore allowed for avoiding the insufficient binding caused by the steric hindrance of the AIE fluorophore, resulting in a remarkably high donor/acceptor ratio comparable to that of the widely developed custom DNA assemblies. The proposed self‐assembly strategy provided novel flexible avenues for the assembling of finely controlled and efficient light‐harvesting systems into natural DNA with little synthetic modifications and low cost.

Modelling, predicting and analysing driver behaviours are essential to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and the comprehensive understanding of complex driving scenarios. Recently, with the development of deep learning (DL), numerous driver behaviour learning (DBL) methods have been proposed and applied in connected vehicles (CV) and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). This study provides a review of DBL, which mainly focuses on typical applications in CV and ITS. First, a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art DBL is presented. Next, Given the constantly changing nature of real driving scenarios, most existing learning-based models may suffer from the so-called “catastrophic forgetting,” which refers to their inability to perform well in previously learned scenarios after acquiring new ones. As a solution to the aforementioned issue, this paper presents a framework for continual driver behaviour learning (CDBL) by leveraging continual learning technology. The proposed CDBL framework is demonstrated to outperform existing methods in behaviour prediction through a case study. Finally, future works, potential challenges and emerging trends in this area are highlighted.

Abstract Background KIAA0586, also known as Talpid3, plays critical roles in primary cilia formation and hedgehog signaling in humans. Variants in KIAA0586 could cause some different ciliopathies, including Joubert syndrome (JBTS), which is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of autosomal recessive neurological disorders. Methods and Results A 9-month-old girl was diagnosed as JBTS by the “molar tooth sign” of the mid-brain and global developmental delay. By whole-exome sequencing, we identified a single nucleotide variant c.3303G > A and a 1.38-kb deletion in KIAA0586 in the proband. These two variants of KIAA0586 were consistent with the mode of autosomal recessive inheritance in the family, which was verified using Sanger sequencing. Conclusions This finding of a compound heterozygote with a 1.38-kb deletion and c.3303G > A gave a precise genetic diagnosis for the patient, and the novel 1.38-kb deletion also expanded the pathogenic variation spectrum of JBTS caused by KIAA0586.

Continuous co-phase traction power system is an effective method to eliminate neutral sections and provide high quality power for both the public grid and the catenary. The substations have the ability to provide cooperative support to each other to reduce capacity and improve system reliability. A fast power control method for substations is needed due to rapid load changes and low overload capability of the system. This paper proposes a fast power control method based on high-speed communication between substations, with additional transient power control to significantly improve the dynamic response of the system.

Context Sasanquasaponin (SQS) is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine proved to have a wide range of pharmacological functions.Objective The objective of this study is to explore the effect and underlying mechanism of SQS in the treatment of prostate cancer (PC).Materials and methods PC cell lines (22Rv1 and PC-3) were treated with SQS (0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 μM) for 12 or 24 h. The viability of cells was evaluated, while the mRNA and protein levels of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related genes in PC cell lines were measured (Groups: Control, TGF-β1, TNF-α, TGF-β1 + TNF-α, and TGF-β1 + TNF-α + SQS). The migration and invasion abilities of PC cell lines were evaluated (Groups: Control, SQS). Finally, the antitumour effect of SQS (25, 50,100, and 200 mg/kg) in BALB/c nude mice (6 weeks, 18–20 g) was evaluated (Groups: Control, Vehicle, 25, 50,100, and 200 mg/kg SQS). The study duration was 1 month.Results SQS inhibited the viability and the number of colonies of 22Rv1 or PC-3 cells. The IC50 of SQS of 12 and 24 h in these two cells was 3.25, 1.82, 4.76, and 4.70 μM, respectively. SQS inhibited the adhesion, migration, and invasion of PC cells. It also inhibited the expression of EMT-related markers of PC cells. The PI3K/Akt/mTOR and Smad2/3 signalling pathways were activated in the process of EMT, and SQS could significantly reduce the activation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR and Smad2/3 pathways. Finally, SQS inhibited the growth of xenograft tumours in vivo.Conclusions SQS inhibited EMT in PC by regulating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR and Smad pathways.

Hemicellulose and lignin were progressively removed from hemp fiber by hydrolysis. SEM, FTIR, XRD analysis and tensile properties evaluation on technical fibers were carried out to understand the structural and mechanical properties of hemp fibers. Significant influence of hemicellulose and lignin content on tensile properties was verified by ANOVA. The fiber tensile strength and initial modulus were decreased with the extensive removal of hemicellulose, along with a constant increasing of elongation at rupture. Torsion and expansion were observed in hemp fibers. It was suggested that the internal structure destruction and reorganization in the ultimate fiber cells was the main reason for the variation of mechanical properties when hemicellulose was gradually dissolved. On the other hand, fiber individualization was achieved by lignin removal and contributed to the elevation of fiber tensile properties. The elongation at break of the hemp fibers decreased slightly with the removal of lignin. NaClO2 solution treatment affected the fiber cells slightly, but effectively changed the properties of the middle lamella jointing between the ultimate fiber cells. The mechanical properties of the hemp fiber were mainly decided by the shearing between single fibers caused by the plastic-like deformation of the middle lamella.
