While recent studies find that contextual diversity (CD) is a better determinant of visual word recognition than token frequency, there is a dearth of work comparing contextual diversity and token frequency in developing readers. In two sets of character and lexical decision experiments we examined token frequency and contextual diversity effects for fourth-grade children in Chinese. Experiments 1a and 1b used Chinese characters and words from SUBTLEX-CH. Experiments 2a and 2b used characters and words from a new corpus developed from Chinese primary school textbooks and reading materials from Grade 1 to 4. In both sets of experiments, CD affected character and lexical decision times but token frequency did not. The results are discussed in terms of recent context-based accounts of word learning and lexical processing, and implications are presented for models of skilled and developing reading.

High‐safety potassium‐ion batteries (HPIBs) are highly intriguing owing to their green energy, low cost, high voltage, noncombustible, and simple assembly. However, most high‐voltage HPIBs use water‐in‐salt electrolytes (WISE), which lead to several problems, such as a high viscosity, which significantly reduces the performance and increases the cost of HPIBs, thus impeding their development. Unfortunately, studies regarding HPIB electrolytes remain limited, further limiting the development of HPIBs. Herein, a co‐solvent engineering electrolyte (4.0 m KOTf in a mixture of propylene carbonate (PC) and H2O with a volume ratio of 5.0:1.0) featuring low‐cost (1/4 of WISE) and high‐performance (45.43 mS cm−1) characteristics is proposed, which not only achieves a wide electrochemical stability window by reducing the activity of H2O, but also adjusts the solvation structure of K+. Consequently, the HPIBs assembled via co‐solvent engineering electrolyte demonstrated a high energy density of 88.05 Wh kg−1, and sufficiently operated at rates of 0.50–10.0 A g−1 over a wide temperature range (−25–50 °C). Hierarchical self‐assembly from simple building blocks to complex polymers is a feasible approach to constructing multi‐functional smart materials. However, the polymerization process of polymers often involves challenges such as the design of building blocks and the drive of external energy. Here, a hierarchical self‐assembly with self‐driven and energy conversion capabilities based on p‐aminophenol and diethylenetriamine building blocks is reported. Through β‐galactosidase (β‐Gal) specific activation to the self‐assembly, the intelligent assemblies (oligomer and superpolymer) with excellent photothermal and fluorescent properties are dynamically formed in situ, and thus the sensitive multi‐mode detection of β‐Gal activity is realized. Based on the overexpression of β‐Gal in ovarian cancer cells, the self‐assembly superpolymer is specifically generated in SKOV‐3 cells to achieve fluorescence imaging. The photothermal therapeutic ability of the self‐assembly oligomer (synthesized in vitro) is evaluated by a subcutaneous ovarian cancer model, showing satisfactory anti‐tumor effects. This work expands the construction of intelligent assemblies through the self‐driven cascade assembly of small molecules and provides new methods for the diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer. This study investigates the influence of causal and concessive relations on discourse coherence in Chinese by means of eye movement and self-paced reading techniques. We use the sentential structure like "NP[subscript HUMAN] moved from place A to place B, {because ([Chinese characters omitted] yinwei) /although ([Chinese characters omitted] jinguan)/no conjunction} + pronoun (he/she) + verb (e.g., like) + there (nali)… + NP". The eye-movement data (Experiment 1) recorded from regions of interest consistently showed that the processing of concessive meaning is much slower than the processing of causal meaning, irrespective of whether the causal relation is explicitly coded through a causal marker (i.e., "yinwei" [because]) or not. In particular, although sentences containing pragmatic anomalies were processed more slowly than sentences containing no pragmatic anomalies in causal structures, there was no such distinction in concessive structures, indicating that the processing of a concessive relation can override that of a pragmatic incongruence. Moreover, although the initial place was reread more in cases of concessive structures as compared with causal structures in region 1 (e.g., place A), there was no difference between them in region 2 (e.g., place B). The results from self-paced reading (Experiment 2) showed that the difficulties observed from processing concessive compared with causal relations were not caused by the difference in pronoun resolution. These findings suggest that processing concessive meaning is cognitively more demanding than processing causal meaning, a conclusion that is also supported by a fine-grained linguistic (i.e., conceptual and pragmatic) analysis of causal and concessive relations.

With the increasing scale and complexity of IoT swarm intelligence applications, data security and privacy protection have become important factors restricting the development of IoT swarm intelligence. This paper explores the key technologies of data security and privacy protection in IoT swarm intelligence to improve the security and trustworthiness of IoT swarm intelligence applications. Using the method of literature research and empirical analysis, the data security and privacy protection in the swarm intelligence of the Internet of Things are deeply analyzed and studied. The data security risks in the Internet of Things are identified and classified, and the corresponding security requirements are proposed. According to different security requirements, a series of data security and privacy protection technologies are proposed. Finally, through empirical research, the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed key technologies are verified. The research results show that these technologies and methods can provide guarantees for the security and trustworthiness of IoT swarm intelligence applications, contributing to the healthy development of the IoT industry. Candida albicans (C. albicans), a ubiquitous polymorphic fungus in humans, causes different types of candidiasis, including oral candidiasis (OC) and vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), which are physically and mentally concerning and financially costly. Thus, developing alternative antifungals that prevent drug resistance and induce immunity to eliminate Candida biofilms is crucial. Herein, a novel membrane‐targeted aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) photosensitizer (PS), TBTCP‐QY, is developed for highly efficient photodynamic therapy (PDT) of candidiasis. TBTCP‐QY has a high molar absorption coefficient and an excellent ability to generate 1O2 and •OH, entering the interior of biofilms due to its high permeability. Furthermore, TBTCP‐QY can efficiently inhibit biofilm formation by suppressing the expression of genes related to the adhesion (ALS3, EAP1, and HWP1), invasion (SAP1 and SAP2), and drug resistance (MDR1) of C. albicans, which is also advantageous for eliminating potential fungal resistance to treat clinical infectious diseases. TBTCP‐QY‐mediated PDT efficiently targets OC and VVC in vivo in a mouse model, induces immune response, relieves inflammation, and accelerates the healing of mucosal defects to combat infections caused by clinically isolated fluconazole‐resistant strains. Moreover, TBTCP‐QY demonstrates excellent biocompatibility, suggesting its potential applications in the clinical treatment of OC and VVC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Infectious diseases are caused by various pathogenic microorganisms that break through the human immune barrier, then reproduce and mutate in human cells, thus causing invasive disease. Despite many recent scientific and technological advances in fields, such as genetics, chemistry, and protein engineering, and in the efficiency of drug research and development, the discovery and development of novel and potent anti-infectious disease agents have still lagged behind. It is often challenging to keep up with the emergence and mutation of new pathogenic microorganisms, which leads to the emergence of more resistant pathogenic microorganisms. The emergence of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) fluorogens with high luminescence yields and high reactive oxygen species (ROS) production rates provides scientists with a new strategy for the prevention and treatment of pathogenic microorganisms. Due to their advantages in terms of brightness, biocompatibility, photostability, and positive correlation, AIE fluorogens (AIEgens) have great potential in biological applications. This review presents a systemic overview of recent progress in AIEgen-based platforms for the photodynamic therapy (PDT) of infectious diseases, which has emerged as a promising noninvasive alternative to traditional antibiotics for combating the drug resistance of infectious diseases. This review is mainly divided into two parts according to the type of pathogenic microorganisms: a section on bacterial and fungal infections (e.g., eye, skin, oral cavity, and blood infections), and a section on viral infections. The future prospects and potential clinical applications of AIEgens are also discussed in detail. In addition to motivating further interest in this field, this review is intended to promote ideas for the further exploration of AIEgens and the development of more advanced AIEgens in a broader range of biomedical and clinical applications.
