Abstract

Photonic systems utilized as components for optical computing promise the potential of enhanced computational ability over current computer architectures. Here, an all-dielectric photonic metastructure is investigated for application as a quantum algorithm emulator (QAE) in the terahertz frequency regime; specifically, we show implementation of the Deustsh-Josza algorithm. The design for the QAE consists of a gradient-index (GRIN) lens as the Fourier transform subblock and silicon as the oracle subblock. First, we detail optimization of the metastructure through numerical analysis. Then, we employed inverse design through a machine learning approach to further optimize the structural geometry. In particular, we improved the lens thickness, in order to enhance the resulting output signal for both balanced and constant functions. We show that by optimizing the thickness of the gradient-index lens through ML, we enhance the interaction of the incident light with the metamaterial leading to a stronger focus of the outgoing wave resulting in more accurate implementation of the desired quantum algorithm in the terahertz.

Abstract

Introduction: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a clinically useful therapy for depression. However, the effects of rTMS on the metabolism of fatty acids (FAs) and the composition of gut microbiota in depression are not well established. Methods: Mice received rTMS (15 Hz, 1.26 T) for seven consecutive days after exposure to chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS). The subsequent depressive‐like behaviors, the composition of gut microbiota of stool samples, as well as medium‐ and long‐chain fatty acids (MLCFAs) in the plasma, prefrontal cortex (PFC), and hippocampus (HPC) were evaluated. Results: CUMS induced remarkable changes in gut microbiotas and fatty acids, specifically in community diversity of gut microbiotas and PUFAs in the brain. 15 Hz rTMS treatment alleviates depressive‐like behaviors and partially normalized CUMS induced alterations of microbiotas and MLCFAs, especially the abundance of Cyanobacteria, Actinobacteriota, and levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the hippocampus and PFC. Conclusion: These findings revealed that the modulation of gut microbiotas and PUFAs metabolism might partly contribute to the antidepressant effect of rTMS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

19. Machine Learning-Assisted Design of Metasurface Radomes

Abstract

Antennas are indispensable to wireless communications. With high frequency band signals applying in 5G channels, the wireless transmission rate is significantly boosted. While 5G technologies are expected to be the foundation for the next generation’s communication systems, the high frequency band leads 5G antennas be very sensitive to the environment. To set up the base stations efficiently, the demand for a fast and accurate measurement method of antenna radiation patterns is urgently needed. In addition, the development of multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) antenna systems also plays an essential role in 5G technologies, which enables high-speed wireless communications, wide diversities, and multiplexing at the same time. However, the mutual coupling effect significantly affects the performance of MIMO antenna systems which not only degrades the data diversity but also reduce the antenna gain. There are many previous works in mutual coupling reduction. However, most of the design only focus on a specific type of antenna systems and are limited to be widely applied. In this thesis, a series of machine learning (ML)-assisted models are represented for an efficient measurement method of antenna radiation pattern and a design method of metasurface radomes that enable mutual coupling reduction induced by the interference of radiation waves. In general, measuring the antenna's radiation pattern is a time-consuming task and is typically limited to specific planes (e.g., E- and H-planes) or angles. The proposed ML-assisted model based on the generative adversarial network (GAN) can restore the antenna radiation pattern from the sparse measurement data, and hence enables a fast and accurate measurement procedure. In addition, an auto-encoder-decoder (AED)-based inverse design model is presented to design an antenna radomes with broadband, wide-angle unidirectional or bidirectional absorption that can reduce mutual coupling in multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) antenna arrays. The proposed ML algorithm can automatically synthesize the metasurface radome to tailor reflection, transmission, and absorption of EM waves in a unidirectional or bidirectional manner. Three representative metasurface design examples, including an ultrathin, unidirectional and bidirectional metasurface-absorber, and a wide-angle unidirectional metasurface-absorber, are presented to validate the proposed ML-assisted design model. The three applications demonstrated that the ML-assisted model has a great potential in solving EM problems.

Abstract

Introduction: Gut microbial disturbance has been established as potential pathogenesis of mental disorders. However, the signatures and differences regarding patients with schizophrenia (SCH) or bipolar disorder (BD) in emerging adulthood as well as their subtypes have been poorly addressed. Methods: In the present study, stool samples obtained from 63 emerging adult patients with schizophrenia (SCH), 50 with bipolar disorder (BD), and 40 healthy controls (HC) were analyzed by 16 S rRNA gene sequencing; psychiatric symptoms and psychological, social, and professional functioning were also assessed. Results: We found that gut microbiota composition was remarkably changed in the patients with SCH and BD. Moreover, the distinct gut microbiome signatures and their potential function in bipolar depression (BP‐D) and SCH with predominantly negative symptoms (SCH‐N) as well as bipolar mania (BP‐M) and SCH with predominantly positive symptoms (SCH‐P) were also observed. Furthermore, we identified diagnostic potential biomarkers that can distinguish BD from HC (38 genera, AUC = 0.961), SCH from HC (32 genera, AUC = 0.962), and BD from Scheme (13 genera, AUC = 0.823). Potential diagnostic biomarkers that can distinguish BD‐D from SCH‐N (16 genera, AUC = 0.969) and BD‐M from SCH‐P (31 genera, AUC = 0.938) were also identified. Conclusion: This study provides further understanding of abnormal gut microbiome in emerging adulthood patients with SCH and BD and lay the potential foundation for the development of microbe‐based clinical diagnosis for BD and SCH. Abstract

According to the description and the concrete demand of the influence on flight by wind in the flight meteorology, the route model of the helicopter in air on-call situation flying towards the scheduled point was established. On the basis of this model, the influences by the wind speed and direction, the helicopter speed and direction on the flight time were analyzed in the simulation. The simulation results show that the influence of wind on the route planning cannot be neglected, and provide the policy decision basis for the optimization of route planning and combat efficacy improvement of helicopter.

Abstract

Abstract: Dysregulation of glutathione‐S‐transferase M3 (GSTM3) has been related to clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) in our former study. GSTM3 plays a pivotal role of detoxification and clearance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in tumour tissues. This study aimed to examine: (1) the associations between GSTM3 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and risk of ccRCC, and (2) the potential molecular mechanism accounting for its effects. 5 SNPs in 3′UTR of GSTM3 were initially genotyped in 329 cases and 420 healthy controls. A SNP‐rs1055259 was found to be significantly associated with the susceptibility of ccRCC (OR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.41‐0.92; P = .019). The minor allele of rs1055259 (G allele) was associated with RCC risk. This SNP was predicted to affect microRNA (miR)‐556 binding to 3′UTR of GSTM3 mRNA. To determine the functional impact, plasmid constructs carrying different alleles of rs1055259 were created. Compared to rs1055259 A‐allele constructs, cells transfected with rs1055259 G‐allele construct had higher transcriptional activity and were less responsive to miR‐556 changes and gene expression. Elevated GSTM3 expression in G‐allele cells was associated with ROS activity and ccRCC development. Taken together, this study indicated that a functional polymorphism of GSTM3 ‐rs1055259 reduced susceptibility of RCC in the Chinese population. It influenced GSTM3 protein synthesis by interfering miR‐556 binding, subsequently suppressed ROS activity and ccRCC progression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this study, a reduction in the saturation current caused by self-heating effect at high V GS is observed in a 35-V rated asymmetric DEMOSFET. The high V GS -induced the large current and raises up the device surface temperature. The Kirk-effect takes places at sufficiently high current levels (high V GS values) leading to the movement of the maximum temperature point from the gate-overlapped DE (drain-extended) region to the drain-side contact region. The drift-region resistance strongly correlates to the self-heating effect and the V K voltage is proportional to the doping concentration in the drift region. As a result, the reduced surface heating (RESURH) can be realized by the optimization of doping concentration in the drift region.
