Increasing human-wild boar conflicts in South Korea have led to a demand for effective management strategies. Absolute abundance, rather than relative indices, is needed for the long-term monitoring and population control of wild boars. Indirect methods for density estimation have become increasingly popular because they are cost-effective and do not have the risk of capture probability bias. We compared three indirect methods, including the non-invasive capture-recapture model (NICRM), random encounter model (REM), and fecal standing crop (FSC), in two different sites characterized by specific habitats (urban and agricultural environments). NICRM and REM reflected population fluctuation and hunting intensity assumptions at both sites; however, FSC did not reflect the latter. While using NICRM, efforts are needed for achieving a low genotyping error rate; this model would achieve more reliable results in low-density areas. REM with accurate parameter information (i.e., daily range, detection zone, and camera placement) could be the most effective density estimation method for long-term monitoring in South Korean environments. Conversely, FSC may not be recommended because of many factors, such as decomposition rate, rainfall, biased distribution of feces that might affect pellet groups. Changing teachers' perceptions about the value of technology and equipping them with appropriate knowledge and skills in pedagogical use of technology is often regarded as a key determinant of success in technology infusion in schools. However, recent studies have indicated that changing teachers' epistemological beliefs about the use of technology in teaching and learning may not necessarily bring about change in their practice, and that technology implementation in schools can be affected by other instrumental forces, such as collegial trust, support for risk taking and access to expertise within an organization. In this article, we delineate collegial trust, access to expertise, willingness to take risks, etc. as manifestations of social capital in an organization. We argue that social capital plays a pivotal role in leveraging pedagogical change in schools. To gauge teachers' self-perceived change in their pedagogical use of technology, we take a constructivist perspective to explore how technology serves as a tool for facilitating students to articulate their thoughts, to explore and construct knowledge, and to become more autonomous in learning. The results of our questionnaire survey indicate that (1) the social capital of a school had a strong direct effect on teachers' self-perceived changes in their pedagogical use of technology, and that the effect of social capital on pedagogical change outweighed that of teachers' perceived effectiveness of professional development; (2) teachers' receptivity towards technology use had a direct effect on their perceived effectiveness of professional development but a very weak effect on fostering changes in their pedagogical use of technology; and (3) the social capital of a school had a direct influence on teachers' receptivity towards technology use and their perceived effectiveness of professional development. To further unfold the complexity of technology implementation, more in-depth qualitative studies on how social forces shape the change process are deemed necessary.

We investigate in this paper an optimal two-stage ordering policy for seasonal products. Before the selling season, a retailer can place orders for a seasonal product from her supplier at two distinct stages satisfying the lead-time requirement. Market information is collected at the first stage and is used to update the demand forecast at the second stage by using Bayesian approach. The ordering cost at the first stage is known but the ordering cost at the second stage is uncertain. A two-stage dynamic optimization problem is formulated and an optimal policy is derived using dynamic programming. The optimal ordering policy exhibits nice structural properties and can easily be implemented by a computer program. The detailed implementation scheme is proposed. The service level and profit uncertainty level under the optimal policy are discussed. Extensive numerical analyses are carried out to study the performance of the optimal policy. Introduction: Accurate diagnosis of undisplaced periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) after hip arthroplasty is crucial, as overlooked PFF may affect its treatment and prognosis. The undisplaced PFF is often difficult to distinguish from radiolucent lines of nutrient artery canal (NAC) of the femur present on post-operative radiographs. We aimed to identify the radiographic features of NAC to distinguish them from PFFs. Materials and methods: In this retrospective radiological study, a total of 242 cases in 215 patients with hip arthroplasty were analysed using pre-operative and post-operative anteroposterior (AP) and translateral (TL) radiographs. Interobserver agreement of the measurements was assessed by two independent experienced orthopaedic surgeons. The kappa value ranged from 0.83 to 0.87, indicating strong agreement according to the Landis and Koch criteria. Results: The NACs were found pre-operatively in 94 (39.8%) cases on AP views and in 122 cases (50.4%) on TL views. The radiolucent lines were observed post-operatively in 42 (17.4%) on AP views and 122 (50.4%) on the TL views. three cases (1.2%) had a fracture around the stem that were detected on radiographs. One case with PFF presented simultaneously with NAC on the immediate post-operative radiographs. All patients were treated by conservative measures, and the radiolucent lines did not appear on follow- up radiographs. Conclusion: It is not easy to differentiate undisplaced PFFs that can occur after hip arthroplasty operation from NACs. However, accurate diagnosis is possible through careful observation and comparison of pre-operative and post- operative radiologic images.

In graphene-based electronic devices like in transistors, the field effect applied thanks to a gate electrode allows tuning the charge density in the graphene layer and passing continuously from the electron to the hole doped regime across the Dirac point. Homogeneous doping is crucial to understand electrical measurements and for the operation of future graphene-based electronic devices. However, recently theoretical and experimental studies highlighted the role of the electrostatic edge due to fringing electrostatic field lines at the graphene edges [P. Silvestrov and K. Efetov, Phys. Rev. B 77, 155436 (2008); F. T. Vasko and I. V. Zozoulenko, Appl. Phys. Lett. 97, 092115 (2010)]. This effect originates from the particular geometric design of the samples. A direct consequence is a charge accumulation at the graphene edges giving a value for the density, which deviates from the simple picture of a plate capacitor and also varies along the width of the graphene sample. Entering the quantum Hall regime would, in principle, allow probing this accumulation thanks to the extreme sensitivity of this quantum effect to charge density and the charge distribution. Moreover, the presence of an additional and counter-propagating edge channel has been predicted [P. Silvestrov and K. Efetov, Phys. Rev. B 77, 155436 (2008)] giving a fundamental aspect to this technological issue. In this article, we investigate this effect by tuning a high mobility graphene wire into the quantum Hall regime in which charge carriers probe the electrostatic potential at high magnetic field close to the edges. We observe a slight deviation to the linear shift of the quantum Hall plateaus with magnetic field and we study its evolution for different filling factors, which correspond to different probed regions in real space. This paper investigates the deontic modal sai2 in Cantonese. I argue that sai2 is an NPI and a negative operator is induced at the sentence-initial position by the SFPs me1 or aa4 in rhetorical questions. In SAI sentence, sai2 must syntactically agree with the negative operator for licensing, and minimality and locality effects are found in such agreement. This study may provide evidence of a syntactic approach to NPI licensing and rhetorical questions.

The highway system is an important component of the modern society as it allows an efficient intercity communication. However, with the increase in the number of cars, the traffic congestion becomes a widespread problem around the world. Here, we study the traffic conditions in Hsuehshan tunnel in Taiwan. When there is traffic congestion, there is a remarkable fraction of vehicles choosing an alternative path, even if it cost more time than jamming on the highway. The paper presents the current development of the Generalized Intelligent Grinding Advisory System (GIGAS), which provides a systematic way of modelling complex grinding processes and finding optimal process conditions while meeting the general class of process requirements. GIGAS provides a way of incorporating three different types of knowledge, including analytical models, experimental data and heuristic knowledge from experts, to describe complex grinding processes. The developed optimization algorithm can handle various optimization problems including different grinding processes and optimization objectives. Case studies are presented for surface grinding and cylindrical plunge-grinding with various optimization objectives to demonstrate its capability of performing optimization. A semi-structured interview was conducted with each participant for psychiatric diagnostic evaluation. We measured the absolute and relative power in 19 channels and analyzed QEEG using the following frequency ranges: delta (1– 4 Hz), theta (4– 8 Hz), alpha 1 (8– 10 Hz), alpha 2 (10– 12 Hz), beta 1 (12– 15 Hz), beta 2 (15– 20 Hz), beta 3 (20– 30 Hz), and gamma (30– 45 Hz). Group analyses and EEG noise preprocessing were conducted using iSyncBrain, a cloud-based, artificial intelligence EEG analysis platform. Analysis of covariance adjusted for IQ, age, and sex was used.Results: QEEG analysis revealed three ADHD subtypes, characterized by (A) elevated relative fast alpha and beta power, (B) elevated absolute slow frequency (delta and theta power), or (C) elevated absolute and relative beta power. A significant difference was found in the Korean ADHD Rating Scale (K-ARS) among the four groups (df=3, F=8.004, p< 0.001); group C had the highest score (25.31± 11.16), followed by group A (21.67± 13.18). The score of group B (12.64± 7.84) was similar to that of the NT group (11.07± 6.12) and did not reach the cut-off point of the K-ARS. In the Wender–Utah Rating Scale (WURS), group B score (55.82± 23.17) was significantly higher than the NT group score (42.81± 13.26).Conclusion: These results indicate that children with ADHD do not constitute a neurophysiologically homogenous group. Children with QEEG subtype B (elevated slow frequency) may be difficult to distinguish from normal children using the K-ARS, which is the most common screening tool for ADHD. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of and infertility treatment effects among patients who visited a Korean medicine (KM) clinic to aid in achieving pregnancy. This study consisted of a 10-year analysis of patient records from a KM clinic.Methods: A retrospective 10-year (2010– 2020) chart analysis was performed using the medical records of infertile patients who visited a KM clinic in South Korea for fertility treatment (ICD-10, infertility symptoms: 59 codes).Results: Of the 6194 patients who visited the clinic during the selected time frame, 1786 were female patients seeking fertility treatment to achieve pregnancy. Among the 1786 infertile women, 586 women succeeded in becoming pregnant (32.8%). Among the 586 patients who became pregnant, 476 women had received KM, 92 had been treated using KM and in vitro fertilization (IVF), and 18 had received KM and undergone intrauterine insemination (IUI). The live birth rates achieved with these treatments were 66.0%, 68.8%, and 66.7%, respectively. The most frequently prescribed medicines were Gamiboher-tang (Jiaweiwuxu-tang), Gamiguibi-tang (Jiaweiguipi-tang), and Gamidanggui-san (Jiaweidanggui-san). Additionally, the most frequent adjunct therapies administered to these patients were acupuncture and moxibustion.Conclusion: Infertility therapies using KM may be a successful option to treat infertility when used alone or in addition to IVF and IUI. However, few studies have considered the purpose of smartphone usage and screen time together. Therefore, we investigated the impact of smartphone purpose and screen time on mental health using data from the 2017 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBS).Participants and Methods: A total of 54,243 adolescents answered items on purpose and screen time of smartphone use, stress perception, sleep dissatisfaction, depressive symptoms, and suicide-related indicators. The purpose of smartphone usage was categorized as social interaction and non-social interaction, and the daily smartphone screen time was classified into three categories: < 2 hours, ≥ 2 hours but < 4 hours, ≥ 4 hours per day.Results: We determined that, on weekdays, stress perception, sleep satisfaction, depressive symptoms, and suicide-related indicators worsened in both groups that used smartphones for ≥ 4 hours per day. When using smartphone for ≥ 2 hours but < 4 hours per day on weekdays, depending on the smartphone use purpose, mental health outcomes differed between the two groups. On weekends, using smartphones for ≥ 2 hours but < 4 hours per day worsened sleep satisfaction but decreased suicide-related indicators in both groups. Mental health outcomes improved when participants used smartphones for ≥ 2 hours but < 4 hours per day but worsened when smartphones were used for ≥ 4 hours per day on weekends.Conclusion: Recommended screen time of smartphone is different depending on the purpose of smartphone use, and the risk of uncontrolled usage is emphasized, rather than the absolute screen time.Keywords: mental health, smartphone addiction, social interaction, social media
