We present preliminary results from an on-going program that aims at mapping the intracluster medium (ICM) temperature of high redshift galaxy clusters from the MaDCoWS sample using a joint analysis of shallow X-ray data obtained by Chandra and high angular resolution Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) observations realized with the NIKA2 and MUSTANG-2 cameras. We also present preliminary results from an on-going Open Time program within the NIKA2 collaboration that aims at mapping the ICM temperature of a galaxy cluster at z = 0.45 from the resolved detection of the relativistic corrections to the SZ spectrum. These studies demonstrate how high angular resolution SZ observations will play a major role in the coming decade to push the investigation of ICM dynamics and non-gravitational processes to high redshift before the next generation X-ray observatories come into play.

We present the results of the analysis of the very massive cluster MOO J1142+1527 at a redshift z = 1.2 based on high angular resolution NIKA2 Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) and Chandra X-ray data. This multi-wavelength analysis enables us to estimate the shape of the temperature profile with unprecedented precision at this redshift and to obtain a map of the gas entropy distribution averaged along the line of sight. The comparison between the cluster morphological properties observed in the NIKA2 and Chandra maps together with the analysis of the entropy map allows us to conclude that MOOJ1142+1527 is an on-going merger hosting a cool-core at the position of the X-ray peak. This work demonstrates how the addition of spatially-resolved SZ observations to low signal-to-noise X-ray data can bring valuable insights on the intracluster medium thermodynamic properties at z > 1.

Linkage analyses in hereditary PC families have identified multiple putative loci. However, until recently, identification of specific risk alleles has proven elusive. Cooney et al used linkage mapping and segregation analysis to identify a putative risk locus on chromosome 17q21-22. In search of causative variant(s) in genes from the candidate region, a novel, potentially deleterious G84E substitution in homeobox transcription factor gene HOXB13 was observed in multiple hereditary PC families. In follow-up testing, the G84E allele was enriched in cases, especially those with an early diagnosis or positive family history of disease. This finding was replicated by others, confirming HOXB13 as a PC risk gene. The HOXB13 protein plays diverse biological roles in embryonic development and terminally differentiated tissue. In tumor cell lines, HOXB13 participates in a number of biological functions, including coactivation and localization of the androgen receptor and FOXA1. However, no consensus role has emerged and many questions remain. All HOXB13 variants with a proposed role in PC risk are predicted to damage the protein and lie in domains that are highly conserved across species. The G84E variant has the strongest epidemiological support and lies in a highly conserved MEIS protein-binding domain, which binds cofactors required for activation. On the basis of epidemiological and biological data, the G84E variant likely modulates the interaction between the HOXB13 protein and the androgen receptor, as well as affecting FOXA1-mediated transcriptional programming. In this review we summarize the current understanding of a novel integrative function of Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor-1 (FGFR1) and its partner CREB Binding Protein (CBP) acting as a nuclear regulatory complex. Nuclear FGFR1 and CBP interact with and regulate numerous genes on various chromosomes. FGFR1 dynamic oscillatory interactions with chromatin and with specific genes, underwrites gene regulation mediated by diverse developmental signals. Integrative Nuclear FGFR1 Signaling (INFS) effects the differentiation of stem cells and neural progenitor cells via the gene-controlling Feed-Forward-And-Gate mechanism. Nuclear accumulation of FGFR1 occurs in numerous cell types and disruption of INFS may play an important role in developmental disorders such as schizophrenia, and in metastatic diseases such as cancer. Enhancement of INFS may be used to coordinate the gene regulation needed to activate cell differentiation for regenerative purposes or to provide interruption of cancer stem cell proliferation. J. The article explores wireless strain measurement for bridge inspection recommended by the federal government. It mentions that structural health monitoring (SHM) is effective in measuring the structural condition of the infrastructures, but it has many drawbacks. It cites that wireless health monitoring (WiHM) is used to overcome the issues of SHM, that will eradicate the need of cabling. Advantages and disadvantages of the said wireless system used in bridge applications are discussed.

Caring for super obese patients (body mass index > 50 kg/m(2)) presents a number of complex and unique clinical challenges, particularly when acute kidney injury is present. We describe our experience treating the heaviest individual with acute kidney injury requiring renal replacement therapy reported to date. A 24-year-old black man was admitted to our hospital with fever, vomiting, progressive weakness, shortness of breath, and hemoptysis. Admission weight was 1,024 lbs (466 kg), height was 6 ft 4 in (1.9 m), and body mass index was 125 kg/m(2). During hospitalization, the patient experienced oligoanuric acute kidney injury and required initiation of continuous and subsequently intermittent renal replacement therapy. This clinical scenario identifies the many challenges involved in caring for super obese patients with acute kidney injury and may be a harbinger of what awaits the nephrology community in the obesity pandemic era. We present a novel multi-view, projective texture mapping technique. While previous multi-view texturing approaches lead to blurring and ghosting artefacts if 3D geometry and/or camera calibration are imprecise, we propose a texturing algorithm that warps (“floats”) projected textures during run-time to preserve crisp, detailed texture appearance. Our GPU implementation achieves interactive to real-time frame rates. The method is very generally applicable and can be used in combination with many image-based rendering methods or projective texturing applications. By using Floating Textures in conjunction with, e.g., visual hull rendering, light field rendering, or free-viewpoint video, improved rendering results are obtained from fewer input images, less accurately calibrated cameras, and coarser 3D geometry proxies. Abstract: The thermodynamics of acid group hydration was studied for different membranes (including Nafion® and sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (BPSH)) and model systems (including an organic/inorganic composite (I/O) and a multiblock polymer (MB-150)). Experiments were carried out with the membranes exposed to different activities of water corresponding to different levels of membrane hydration. Isopiestic sorption shows a significantly greater uptake in water for the multiblock polymer as compared to the others. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to study thermal properties to elucidate the state of water in the membranes. A comparison is made of various modes of collecting data using DSC. Based on these data, we discuss the overall understanding of water interactions with these membranes as well as the limitations of thermodynamic data in describing microenvironments within the membrane. We replaced the posterior cruciate ligament in 30 skeletally mature sheep with a patellar tendon autograft using the central third of the ipsilateral patellar tendon. The healing autograft was compared with the contralateral posterior cruciate ligament and the patellar tendons and posterior cruciate ligaments of nonoperated animals. The collagen fibril diameters were analyzed using transmission electron photomicrographs of fibril cross sections taken at six periods during the 2 years after surgery. The patellar tendon and posterior cruciate ligament were characterized by a broad, nongaussian distribution of collagen fibril diameters. The autografts shifted to a unimodal distribution by an increase of small-diameter collagen fibrils. The frequency of small-diameter fibrils measuring up to 100 nm was 99% after 2 years. At that time, these small-diameter fibrils represented 91.6% of the area covered by collagen fibrils. The mean diameter of the collagen fibrils in the autografts significantly decreased to 45% of the controls at Week 26 and remained at this level until the end of this study. The percentage of area covered by collagen fibrils per 1 micrometer squared was 78% of the controls 2 years postoperatively. This study suggests that the patellar tendon autograft could not reproduce the collagen fibril organization of the posterior cruciate ligament. This may be a biologic factor responsible for inconsistent results in posterior cruciate ligament replacement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In each of 30 skeletally mature sheep, the posterior cruciate ligament was replaced in one knee by a free patellar tendon autograft using the central third of the ipsilateral patellar tendon. The healing autograft was compared with the contralateral posterior cruciate ligament and the patellar tendons and posterior cruciate ligaments of nonoperated animals. The content of glycosaminoglycans, chondroitin sulfate disaccharides, and dermatan sulfate disaccharides was assessed biochemically at six periods during the 2 years after surgery. The total glycosaminoglycans and chondroitin sulfate disaccharides in the native posterior cruciate ligament was threefold that in the native patellar tendon. In contrast, the amount of dermatan sulfate disaccharides was similar in both the native tendon and native ligament. In the autograft, glycosaminoglycans and chondroitin sulfate disaccharides increased significantly to about 144% and 172%, respectively, of the contralateral posterior cruciate ligament at Week 104. The dermatan sulfate disaccharides in the autograft also showed a significant increase up to Week 26, followed by a remarkable but not significant decrease until the end of the study. In the contralateral posterior cruciate ligament, the dermatan sulfate disaccharides increased significantly between Weeks 52 and 104. Thus, the amount of dermatan sulfate disaccharides was similar in both the autograft and the contralateral posterior cruciate ligament after 2 years. A technique has been developed to detect infrared emissions from the products of ionic reactions in plasmas. The technique employs dual-phase digital lock-in amplification and cold filtering to permit the detection of the weak infrared chemiluminescence (IRCL) with a solid-state detector. A novel method of cleanly modulating plasma chemiluminescence by the pulsed introduction of reagent gases has been developed and implemented. This new technique has been tested by studying the well-characterized H-atom reactions, H+Cl[sub 2]→HCl(v=0-4)+Cl and H+NO[sub 2]→OH(v=0-3)+NO. Rotational and vibrational distributions have been measured for these two reactions and are presented and compared with previous determinations. Additionally, the associative electron detachment reaction, H+Cl[sup -]→HCl(v=0-2)+e, has been studied, demonstrating that IRCL can be collected from reactions occurring at a low number density approaching that of the plasma ionization (∼4x10[sup 10] cm[sup -3]). The resolution, and hence, the information content of the collected emissions from this reaction have been greatly improved over previous work, with which our data are compared. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.
