Herein, an innovative glyphosate imprinted poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate-N-methacroyl-(L)-phenylalanine methyl ester nanoparticles (MIP@NPs) based plasmonic nanosensor featured with high sensitivity and selectivity was constructed by using the molecular imprinting technique and used for real-time glyphosate detection. The characterization of nanoparticles was performed by the nano Zetasizer and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), while nanosensors were characterized by the Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR) and contact angle measurement. Control experiments were conducted to evaluate the imprinting efficiency on the signal response using a non-imprinted surface plasmon resonance (NIP SPR) nanosensor prepared without adding glyphosate pesticide into the polymerization mixture. The MIP@NPs integrated molecularly imprinted surface plasmon resonance (MIP SPR) nanosensor having synthetic molecular recognition elements yielded a novel biosensing platform for label-free detection and real-time monitoring of glyphosate pesticide. The MIP SPR nanosensor detected the target glyphosate molecule 4.950 times more selectively than the competitor molecule malathion while 3.918 times more selectively than the competitor molecule malaoxon. In addition, the imprinting efficiency factor was found to be 6.76, indicating that the molecular imprinting process was successful. In addition, the imprinting factor was found to be 6.76. Kinetic studies and adsorption characteristics of glycosate adsorption were carried out to assess adsorption dynamics. The linear concentration range for glyphosate detection was 0.001 ppm–10.000 ppm of pesticide, and the detection limit was found to be 0.120 ppb. Studies on the repeatability of the MIP SPR nanosensor revealed that even after five cycles, the signal response for glyphosate detection did not change significantly with relative standard deviation, RSD<1.5 value. The artificial urine selected as the real sample was spiked with glyphosate at a final concentration of 10.000 ppm to evaluate the matrix effect, and the glyphosate amount was reported. Activated protein C (APC), a serine protease produced from zymogen protein C (PC), is the key enzyme of the protein C pathway. APC has anticoagulant, anti‐inflammatory, and cytoprotective features. APC has recently been shown to significantly reduce coagulation as well as mortality in patients with severe sepsis. Herein, we aimed to develop an affinity support material that allows the purification of plasma APC for the first time. In this research, a novel APC‐specific DNA aptamer–based poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐glycidyl methacrylate) (poly(HEMA‐GMA/DNA‐Apt)) macroporous cryogel membrane at different molar ratios was prepared using affinity binding method and their potential for purification and identification of APC was investigated. The DNA aptamer–immobilized cryogels were characterized to examine their structural and morphological properties. The effect of pH, initial concentration, temperature, ionic strength difference, and flow rate changes was examined. Selectivity studies were performed in the presence of APC and competitive proteins, and cryogel support materials were shown to have a very high affinity for APC. Adsorption capacity was found to be 89.02 mg/g. Finally, NaCl revealed efficiency for APC desorption and the reuse of cryogels was successfully tested for ten cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, a novel bio-composite material that allow sustained release of plant derived antimicrobial compound was developed for the biomedical applications to prevent the infections caused by microorganisms resistant to commercial antimicrobials agents. With this aim, bacterial cellulose (BC)-p(HEMA) nanocomposite film that imprinted with eugenol (EU) via metal chelated monomer, MAH was prepared. Firstly, characterization studies were utilized by FTIR, SEM and BET analysis. Then antimicrobial assays, drug release studies and in vitro cytotoxicity test were performed. A significant antimicrobial effect against both Gram (+) Staphylococcus aureus and Gram (-) Escherichia coli bacteria and a yeast Candida albicans were observed even in low exposure time periods. When antimicrobial effect of EU compared with commercially used agents, both antifungal and antibacterial activity of EU were found to be higher. Then, sustained drug release studies showed that approximately 55% of EU was released up to 50 h. This result proved the achievement of the molecular imprinting for an immobilization of molecules that desired to release on an area in a long-time interval. Finally, the in vitro cytotoxicity experiment performed with the mouse L929 cell line determined that the synthesized EU-imprinted BC nanocomposite was biocompatible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐N‐methacryloyl‐L‐tryptophan methyl ester) cryogel membranes were synthesized in different concentrations by using molecular imprinting technique, for controlled release of simvastatin. The cryogel membranes were prepared in various compositions and thus the releases of cryogels containing 0.5, 0.75 and 1 mg hydrophilic simvstatin were compared. The chemical and morphological properties of the poly(HEMA‐MATrp) cryogel membranes were evaluated through a series of characterization techniques. The membranes were subjected to swelling tests to assess their ability to absorb water and their degree of crosslinking. Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy was applied to determine the functional groups present in the cryogel matrix and to evaluate the degree of chemical modification that occurred during synthesis. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy was employed to visualize the cryogel at high resolution, providing insights into the pore structure and overall architecture of the matrix. Then, cryogel membranes were evaluated for cell proliferation abilities by 3‐(4,5‐dimethyl/thiazol‐2‐yl) 2,5‐diphenyltetra zolium bromide thiazolyl blue (MTT) assay for cell viability. The prepared cryogel membranes have a diameter and thickness of about 10 mm and 1.0 mm, respectively. The increasing attention towards the use of cryogel membranes in tissue‐engineering has resulted in demonstrating the dependency of release profiles of simvastatin cryogel membranes on their composition.
