This study presents two simple physiotherapy programs that were implemented for five weeks and showed positive changes in balance, coordination, and motor skills in kindergarteners with ASD. Physiotherapy programs in a gym and games on a smart board with balance plates and an unstable base were applied to improve the physical condition of children with ASD. Thirty children with ASD (4–6 years old) attending special needs kindergarten were enrolled in the study. Three tests were used to assess participants' physical condition before and after the study: the modified Berg Balance Scale, the Imbalance Coordination Sample, and the Bruininks–Oseretsky Motor Proficiency Test (BOTMP). The resulting mean change, calculated from each group's scores, shows that the participants who received physical therapy sessions at the smart board had the greatest change of 1.58 points. It shows that the opportunity to play games on a smart board motivates children with ASD to work harder; therefore, it is a simple and easy way to engage children in different types of physical exercise. A slightly smaller change of 1.51 was obtained in the group that received gym sessions. However, working in the gym was more psychologically challenging for the children with ASD due to their lack of desire and motivation. Both methods are relatively simple and easy to apply at home; therefore, parents can make a significant contribution to improving children's physical condition and that can be an effective tool to assist these individuals with activities in daily life. This research utilizes Ultrasonic Guided Waves (UGW) to inspect corrosion-type defects in steel pipe walls, providing a solution for hard-to-reach areas typically inaccessible by traditional non-destructive testing (NDT) methods. Fundamental helical UGW modes are used, allowing the detection of defects anywhere on the pipe's circumference using a limited number of transducers and measurements on the upper side of the pipe. Finite element (FE) modeling and experiments investigated generating and receiving UGW helical waves and their propagation through varying corrosion-type defects. Defect detection is based on phase delay differences in the helical wave's signal amplitude peaks between defective and defect-free regions. Phase delay variations were noted for the different depths and spatial dimensions of the defects. These results highlight the phase delay method's potential for NDT pipeline inspection. The application of non-stationary Lamb wave signals is a promising tool in various industrial applications where information about changes inside a structure is required. Phase velocity is one of the Lamb wave parameters that can be used for inhomogeneities detection. The possibility of reconstructing the segment of the phase velocity in a strong dispersion range using only two signals is proposed. The theoretical study is performed using signals of the A0 mode propagating in an aluminium plate at a frequency of 150 kHz, 300 kHz, 500 kHz and 900 kHz. The experiment was carried out at a value of 300 kHz. The studies conducted indicated that the maximum distance between two signals, at which the time-of-flight can be measured between the same phase points, is the main parameter for the two signals technique application. Theoretical and experimental studies were performed, and the mean relative error was calculated by comparing the obtained results with those calculated via the SAFE method. In the theoretical study, the mean relative error of 0.33% was obtained at 150 kHz, 0.22% at 300 kHz, 0.23% at 500 kHz and 0.11% at 900 kHz. The calculated mean relative errors δ c p h = 0.91 % and δ c p h = 1.36 % were obtained at different distances in the experimental study. In recent years, an increasing trend towards replacement of conventional fossil-based plastics with bio-based plastics was noticed, i.e., production of plastics partly or fully made from biomass is rapidly expanding. Currently, bio-based and biodegradable plastics have a very small market size, approximately only 1% of all plastics produced. However, the forecast of the global bioplastics production capacities predicts an increase from approximately 2.417 million tonnes in 2021 to approximately 7.593 million tonnes in 2026, more than three times the current capacity. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the challenges and identify the barriers for bio-based and biodegradable plastics for waste management and to evaluate the effectiveness of current plastic waste management strategies for the efficient waste management of bio-based and biodegradable plastics. The main barriers and motivators of the biodegradable and biodegradable plastics market that have been identified include macroeconomic factors, regulatory factors, technological factors, and social factors. The bio-based and biodegradable plastics have to be separately collected and treated under mostly controlled, regulated conditions. However, currently, there are no legal provisions providing for the separate collection of bio-based plastics, leading to their disposal with either hazardous waste, conventional plastics, or municipal waste. Since the effective plastic waste management strategy relates to good performance in each step of the waste management process, bio-based and biodegradable plastic waste management could, therefore, be based on an effective strategy for the management of plastic waste. However, there is a need for standardizing waste collection systems and creating a harmonized waste collection infrastructure, which would lead to effective sorting of bio-based plastic waste. The 2D-FFT is described as a traditional method for signal processing and analysis. Due to the possibility to determine the time and frequency (t,f) domains, such a method has a wide application in various industrial fields. Using that method, the obtained results are presented in images only; thus, for the extraction of quantitative values of phase velocities, additional algorithms should be used. In this work, the 2D-FFT method is presented, which is based on peak detection of the spectrum magnitude at particular frequencies for obtaining the quantitative expressions. The radiofrequency signals of ULWs (ultrasonic Lamb waves) were used for the accuracy evaluation of the method. An uncertainty evaluation was conducted to guarantee the metrological traceability of measurement results and ensure that they are accurate and reliable. Mathematical and experimental verifications were conducted by using signals of Lamb waves propagating in the aluminum plate. The obtained mean relative error of 0.12% for the A0 mode (160 kHz) and 0.05% for the S0 mode (700 kHz) during the mathematical verification indicated that the proposed method is particularly suitable for evaluating the phase-velocity dispersion in clearly expressed dispersion zones. The uncertainty analysis showed that the plate thickness, the mathematical modeling, and the step of the scanner have a significant impact on the estimated uncertainty of the phase velocity for the A0 mode. Those components of uncertainty prevail and make about ~92% of the total standard uncertainty in a clearly expressed dispersion range. The S0 mode analysis in the non-dispersion zone indicates that the repeatability of velocity variations, fluctuations of the frequency of Lamb waves, and the scanning step of the scanner influence significantly the combined uncertainty and represent 98% of the total uncertainty. The Lamb waves are named one of the promising solutions for future wind turbine blade (WTB) failure prevention. The compliance with safety assurance of WTBs by detecting structural changes during the manufacture and performing their monitoring during the service life are effective tools for environmental sustainability. This work presents the basic characteristics of Lamb waves and highlights two main unusual limitations—the dispersion and an infinite number of modes—as a great challenge that complicates the application of such waves. This requires the investigation and development of new signal processing methods (SPMs) for conducting accuracy assessments according to the requirements of ISO 17025. The general principles for the accuracy assessment of the signal processing methods applied to evaluate the dispersion of Lamb waves are presented here, and a suitable procedure for estimation of errors and uncertainties is proposed. These should facilitate the verification analysis of any signal processing method used for the dispersion evaluation of Lamb waves. This information allows determining parameters that define the measurement reliability and facilitates the application and utilisation of the proposed methods and their choice. Background. Children with autism disorder show atypical preference for non-social stimuli. Therefore, the deficits of social communication and social interest are primary and usually named features for the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The main idea of the present work was to show that the physiotherapy sessions (PS) were some of the ways that could improve the physical condition of children with ADS. Moreover, the application of such programs increased self-esteem, communication skills and permitted a better adaptation and integration within society. Methods. Eleven children attending kindergarten for children with special needs participated in this investigation. The inclusion criteria were a clinical diagnosis of ASD. All participants had F 84.0 code in their cases and were specified for grade II autism disorder according to the American Psychiatric Association (2014). The investigation process consisted of four stages: the initial testing, the application of the physiotherapy program (PS), the postapplication testing and the analysis, interpretation and comparison of obtained results. The investigation process was applied for six weeks. Results. After PS applications, the children's balance improved by 21.32%, coordination -- 23.36%, physical and functional abilities such as speed (13.18%) and explosive leg strength (37.14%). Conclusions. The physiotherapy sessions improved the physical condition of children with ADS: balance, coordination, functional abilities and the explosive leg strength. In recent years, the novel lightweight honeycomb sandwich structures have been applied in a wide range of industries. However, daily operational conditions, fatigue, as well as various defects developed during exploitation lead to the risk of structure failure. To meet safety and economical requirements, such structures must be tested. In this paper, an ultrasonic pitch-catch technique based on ultrasonic guided waves (UGW) for detection of defects in honeycomb sandwich structures is proposed. The technique is based on simultaneous scanning of a pair of contact type transmitting and receiving transducers positioned at fixed distance from each other. The proposed technique has been verified by the experiments and simulations on a honeycomb sandwich structure with an aluminium core and carbon fiber skin. The results have shown that different types of internal nonhomogeneities, such as changes in internal multilayered structure, skin delaminations or disbonds between the skin and the core, give the effects of amplitude and phase velocity deviations, which can be detected with accuracy reasonable for practical applications. The object of the investigation is a honeycomb structure of composite sandwich made of glass-epoxy laminating layers and a honeycomb core of epoxy impregnated paper. Large composite tanks possessing cylindrical shape are produced using the winding process. Therefore, the final products have uneven thickness and fibre orientation lamina layers, and also an unevenly impregnated honeycomb layer. The aim of this research is to develop an economically attractive embedded ultrasonic measurement technique for on-field diagnostics of complex composite structures used for production of large liquid storage tanks. Development of the relatively cheap and easy to operate embedded diagnostic/monitoring technique is important aiming to assure safety of liquid storage tanks (monitoring structural integrity against overpressure, etc.) and detection of accidental defects that may appear during transportation, installation and exploitation of those structures. Typical defects that are aimed to be detected are relatively large delaminations/disbonds (area having diameter of 150-200 mm) of skin layers caused by low energy impacts that cannot be detected visually and show severe influence on the structural strength and safety of liquid tanks. This work presents results of numerical modeling and experimental research in low frequency (50 kHz) ultrasonic guided waves (UGW) propagation in large honeycomb composite structures. Finite element (FE) simulation of UGW propagation has been made aiming to reduce quantity of ultrasonic transducers and optimize their placement on composite structure. The possibilities to place ultrasonic transducers and receivers on both sides (internal or external) of composite structures and to use such a proposed technique for detection of delamination/debonding areas caused by low energy impacts or alternating semi static loads (e.g. filling and draining of liquid from storage tank) and monitoring of partial self-healing of relatively rigid composite structures were proved by experimental testing. The properties of ultrasonic Lamb waves, such as relatively small attenuation and high sensitivity to structural changes of the object being investigated, allow performing of non-destructive testing of various elongated structures like pipes, cables, etc. Due to the dispersion effect of Lamb waves, a waveform of the received informative signal is usually distorted, elongated and overlapping in the time domain. Therefore, in order to investigate objects using the ultrasonic Lamb waves and to reconstruct the dispersion curves, it is necessary to know the relationship between frequency, phase and group velocities and thickness of the plate. The zero-crossing technique for measurement of phase velocity of Lamb waves (the A0 and S0 modes) has been investigated using modelled dispersed signals and experimental signals obtained for an aluminium plate having thickness of 2 mm. A comparison between two reconstruction methods of Lamb wave phase velocity dispersion curves, namely, the two-dimensional fast Fourier transform (2D-FFT) and zero-crossing technique, along with the theoretical (analytical) dispersion curves is presented. The results indicate that the proposed zero-crossing method is suitable for use in reconstruction of dispersion curves in the regions affected by strong dispersion, especially for the A0 mode. The reliability of the wind turbine blade (WTB) evaluation using a new criterion is presented in the work. Variation of the ultrasonic guided waves (UGW) phase velocity is proposed to be used as a new criterion for defect detection. Based on an intermediate value between the maximum and minimum values, the calculation of the phase velocity threshold is used for defect detection, location and sizing. The operation of the proposed technique is verified using simulation and experimental studies. The artificially milled defect having a diameter of 81 mm on the segment of WTB is used for verification of the proposed technique. After the application of the proposed evaluation technique for analysis of the simulated B-scan image, the coordinates of defect edges have been estimated with relative errors of 3.7% and 3%, respectively. The size of the defect was estimated with a relative error of 2.7%. In the case of an experimentally measured B-scan image, the coordinates of defect edges have been estimated with relative errors of 12.5% and 3.9%, respectively. The size of the defect was estimated with a relative error of 10%. The comparative results obtained by modelling and experiment show the suitability of the proposed new criterion to be used for the defect detection tasks solving. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
