The main objective of this study is to isolate and identify lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from various Egyptian dairy products, examine their antibacterial and hemolysis potential, and ensure their safety when used as starter cultures in different dairy industries. Egyptian dairy products are often made without the use of commercial starter cultures, using raw milk and artisanal methods. The most popular traditional dairy products are Laban Rayeb and Zabady, as well as the cheese varieties of Ras, Domiati, and Karish. The microbial communities used for fermentation and the diversity of lactic acid bacteria are the most important factors that can affect the quality of these products. In order to investigate the diversity of cocci lactic acid bacteria in Egyptian dairy products, 70 samples of raw or fermented milk and cheeses were collected from traditional cheese-making factories, local markets, and farmhouses located in the Delta area of Egypt. Following this, the LAB were isolated from the samples. One hundred fifty-seven isolates of Gram-positive, catalase-negative, and cocci bacterial species were identified via rep-PCR, and some isolates were confirmed using pheS and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, as follows: Streptococcus infantarius subsp. infantarius (three isolates), Enterococcus hirae (three isolates), Enterococcus faecium (ninety-six isolates), Enterococcus faecalis (forty isolates), Enterococcus durans (six isolates), Lactococcus garvieae (one isolate), Pediococcus acidilactici (seven isolates), and Lactococcus lactis subsp. Lactis (one isolate). These findings validate that five strains have strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes, and one hundred thirty-four strains were safe for hemolysis. The ideal adjuvant is one that able to aid in early stimulation of the humeral immune response, and to promote the production of high antibody titers that would persist for long duration as well as stimulate the cellular immune response. This immunological study was conducted to reveal the aluminum hydroxide gel effect with the use of oil adjuvants on the immune response of polyvalent foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccine in sheep. Twenty five sheep, were divided to five group (five animals/group) where the 1st group was vaccinated with polyvalent FMD ISA 206 oil vaccine, 2nd group was vaccinated with polyvalent FMD ISA 206 + aluminum hydroxide gel vaccine, 3rd group was vaccinated with polyvalent ISA 201 oil vaccine, 4th group was vaccinated with polyvalent ISA 201 + aluminum hydroxide gel vaccine, 5th group was kept as a negative control (non-vaccinated). Blood and Serum samples were collected from vaccinated animals for monitoring the cellular and humeral immune responses. The results showed that sheep groups immunized with the vaccine prepared with ISA 201with aluminum hydroxide gel is considered the best cellular and humeral immunity post vaccinal response then ISA 201 followed by ISA 206 with aluminum hydroxide gel and the last one is the vaccine prepared with ISA 206 alone.It can be concluded that, ISA oils with aluminum hydroxide gel induce the best cellular and humeral immunity.

Hymedesmiidae is one of the largest families of marine sponges and stands out as an exceptional source of variable metabolites with diverse biological activities. In this study, the ethyl acetate fraction (HE) of a Hymedesmia sp. marine sponge from the Red Sea, Egypt, was analyzed for the first time using Ultra-performance liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-ESI-MS/MS) analysis. The analysis tentatively identified 29 compounds in this fraction, including the isolation and identification of six compounds (two pyrimidine nucleosides, one purine, and two pyrimidine bases in addition to one cerebroside) for the first time. The structures of the isolated compounds were established by 1D and 2D NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), MS (mass spectrometry), and IR (infrared) spectroscopy. Furthermore, the cytotoxic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of the ethyl acetate fraction were evaluated in vitro. The fraction exhibited strong DPPH scavenging activity with an IC50 of 78.7 µg/mL, compared to ascorbic acid as a positive control with an IC50 of 10.6 µg/mL. It also demonstrated significant cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 13.5 µg/mL and 25.3 µg/mL against HCT-116 and HEP-2 cell lines, respectively, compared to vinblastine as a positive control with IC50 values of 2.34 µg/mL and 6.61 µg/mL against HCT-116 and HEP-2, respectively. Additionally, the ethyl acetate fraction displayed promising antibacterial activity against S. aureus with a MIC value of 62.5 µg/mL, compared to ciprofloxacin as a positive control with MIC values of 1.56 µg/mL for Gram-positive bacteria and 3.125 µg/mL for Gram-negative bacteria. It also exhibited activity against E. coli and P. aeruginosa with MIC values of 250 µg/mL and 500 µg/mL, respectively. Briefly, this is the first report on the biological activities and secondary metabolite content of the ethyl acetate fraction of Hymedesmia sp. marine sponge, emphasizing the potential for further research against resistant bacterial and fungal strains, as well as different cancer cell lines. The antibiofilm, antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities of the methanolic extract of Padina pavonica L. were determined. Results deduced that the algal extract had a high biofilm formation inhibitory action done via crystal violet (CV) assay, to 88–99%. The results showed a strong antibacterial against the identified bacteria species. Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Bacillus subtilis, and the extract had moderate antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Streptococcus agalactiae. The algal extract has a concentration-dependent DPPH radical scavenging activity (84.59%, with IC50 = 170.31 µg/ml). The inhibitory percent of P. pavonica methanolic extract in vitro antiproliferative activity was 1.79–98.25% with IC50 = 15.14 µg/ml against lung carcinoma. Phenols, terpenes, amino acids, alkaloids, flavones, alcohols, and fatty acids were among the metabolites whose biological actions were evaluated. Contamination of animal feeds with mycotoxins is one of the most serious issues in the world of animal nutrition. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) versus oxytetracycline (OXY) in reducing aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) toxicity in rabbits fed contaminated diets. This experiment was done on 48 weaned NZW, four groups (n = 12). The first (AF) served as the control group feed on an infected diet by AFB1 between 0.02 and 0.03 mg/kg BW; second (AF + OXY) received an infected diet by AFB1 and was treated with OXY 200 mg/kg BW/day; third (AF + PPE) received an infected diet by AFB1 and treated with PPE 130 mg/kg BW/day; fourth (AF + OXY + PPE) received an infected diet by AFB1 and treated with a daily oral dose of 100 mg/kg BW/day of OXY + PPE (65 mg/kg BW/day), the experiment lasted for 8 weeks experiment. The treated group with PPE and its combination with OXY concurrent with AF showed amelioration markedly for liver and kidney function. To summarise, adding PPE and combining it with OXY at a half dose to an AFB1‐contaminated diet can help minimise the harmful effects of AFB1 on rabbit performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: The efficient feed utilization of raw feed ingredients is one of the main factors associated with superior growth and production in poultry farming. The higher demand for cereal grains as energy sources has encouraged the dietary inclusion of other alternative cereals to achieve the target poultry production. However, alternative cereals such as barley grains may limit poultry growth due to their higher content of anti-nutritional factors, such as non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs). Hence, the application of solid-state fermentation technology with fibrolytic enzymes allows for a higher dietary inclusion of barley comparable to its actual inclusion levels. In this study, including 10% fermented and enzymatically treated barley not only improved feed utilization efficiency, but also modified intestinal barrier functions and antioxidant status and upregulated the expression of nutrient-transport-related genes. Therefore, fermented and enzymatically treated barley can be used as a promising alternative to corn and achieve the target production of broiler chickens. The present and future high demand of common cereals as corn and wheat encourage the development of feed processing technology that allows for the dietary inclusion of other cereals of low nutritional value in poultry feeding. Barley grains contain anti-nutritional factors that limit their dietary inclusion in the poultry industry. The treatment of barley with solid-state fermentation and exogenous enzymes (FBEs) provides a good alternative to common cereals. In this study, barley grains were subjected to solid-state microbial fermentation using Lactobacillus plantarum, Bacillus subtilis and exogenous fibrolytic enzymes. This study aimed to assess the impact of FBEs on growth, feed utilization efficiency, immune modulation, antioxidant status and the expression of intestinal barrier and nutrient transporter-related genes. One-day-old broiler chicks (Ross 308, n = 400) comprised four representative groups with ten replicates (10 chicks/replicate) and were fed corn-soybean meal basal diets with inclusions of FBEs at 0, 5, 10 and 15% for 38 days. Solid-state fermentation of barley grains with fibrolytic enzymes increased protein content, lowered crude fiber and reduced sugars compared to non-fermented barley gains. In consequence, the group fed FBEs10% had the superior feed utilization efficiency and body weight gain (increased by 4.7%) with higher levels of nutrient metabolizability, pancreatic digestive enzyme activities and low digesta viscosity. Notably, the group fed FBEs10% showed an increased villi height and a decreased crypt depth with a remarkable hyperactivity of duodenal glands. In addition, higher inclusion levels of FBEs boosted serum immune-related parameters and intestinal and breast muscle antioxidants status. Intestinal nutrient transporters encoding genes (GLUT-1, CAAT-1, LAT1 and PepT-1) and intestinal barriers encoding genes (MUC-2, JAM-2, occludin, claudins-1 and β-defensin 1) were upregulated with higher dietary FBEs levels. In conclusion, feeding on FBEs10% positively enhanced broiler chickens' performance, feed efficiency and antioxidant status, and boosted intestinal barrier nutrient transporters encoding genes. ULVA selenium nanoparticles (USeNPs) were synthesized and characterized, then examined for their wound healing capacity through in vitro assay showing promising healing (82.27%) with USeNPs concentration (500µg/mL). We also determined the antifungal potential via agar well diffusion technique, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), which was evaluated by a micro-dilution assay. The synergistic effect of the USeNPs individually or in combination with standard antifungal antibiotic (ketoconazole;100μg/mL) was studied against Cryptococcus neoformans RCMB 0049001 and Candida lipolytica RCMB 005007(1). Geotrichum candidum RCMB 041001 was also checked by agar well diffusion assay, followed by transmission electron microscopy to assess different changes in the most sensitive fungal yeast cells. The results indicated that USeNPs have a promising antifungal effect against C. neoformans RCMB 0049001 and C. lipolytica RCMB 005007(1) by achieving remarkable inhibition zones. In comparison, no effect was detected on G. candidum RCMB 041001. The MIC was found to be 78.1μg and 312.5μg for C. neoformans RCMB 0049001 and C. lipolytica RCMB 005007(1), respectively. The biosynthetic USeNPs have a strong antifungal potential and can elevate and strengthen the action of ketoconazole antibiotic towards different fungal pathogens, and this was obvious In the experiment of synergism carried out in the present study based on combining ketoconazole;100μg/mL with USeNPs, which resulted in a detached C. neoformas RCMB 0049001 cells with a severe dramatic change. Background: Cryolipolysis is a treatment option for subjects looking for noninvasive body contouring. Combination between cryolipolysis and aerobic exercise has a significance effect on the reduction of localized fat. Purpose: To examine the impact of combining cryolipolysis with aerobic activity and a calorie-restricted diet on the waist-to-hip ratio and the skin fold of subcutaneous abdominal fat in obese people. Subjects and Methods: This was a pretest-posttest randomized controlled clinical study. Forty overweight patients were split evenly into two groups. Patients in group A (control) were instructed to follow a low-calorie diet and engage in aerobic exercise, while participants in group B of the trial were given cryolipolysis sessions in combination to the control group's diet. Assessment of patients was done before and after treatment to measure waist-to-hip ratio (W/H) as well as abdominal skin fold. Results: Mixed MANOVA was performed to examine the effect of treatment on skin fold and (W/H) ratio. The skin fold and waist to hip (W/H) ratio data collected from both groups before and after treatment were compared statistically. There was a substantial effect of reduction in skin fold and waist-hip ratio of group B as compared to group A post treatment (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Patients who underwent cryolipolysis and aerobic exercise with low caloric diet program exhibited considerable improvement in skin fold of abdominal subcutaneous fat also waist-hip ratio improved the systemic effects of cryolipolysis contrasted to those who were kept on a diet as well as aerobic exercise. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of heavy metals in hematological, serum biochemical parameters and chromosomal aberrations in Nile tilapia oreochromis niloticus. These study was performed on five groups of different sites: Group 1 agriculture wast water (G1), group 2 industrial wast water (G2), group 3 swage (G3), Group 4 underground water (G4), and group 5 as fresh water (control) (G5). The results showed that agriculture wast water (G1) is highly effect on serum biochemical analysis, criatenine (Cr) was 0.2 mg/L, alanine transferase (ALT) was 20 IU/L and asparatot amino transferase (AST) was 11.671 IU/L compared with a control group (G5). The gills histopathological alternation of the fish from (G2) industrial wast revealed a typical cellular structure as nuclear membrane denegation and of normal cytoplasmic mitochondria. Fifteen dairy Shami goats (5 per group) were fed three different DCAD levels, (T1) control group contain a high DCAD level feeding positive DCAD diet (+215 mEq/kg DM), (T2) fed (zero DCAD) and (T3) fed a low DCAD level feeding negative DCAD (-150 mEq/Kg DM). Feeding positive DCAD diet (T1) resulted in higher (P <0.05) plasma pH than dairy Shami goats fed the negative dietary DCAD. Plasma calcium, phosphorus and Magnesium concentration increased significantly (P <0.05) with decreasing DCAD level. The highest significant (P < 0.05) plasma calcium, phosphorus and Magnesium level was recorded for group (3) (-150 mEq/kg DM) and the lowest was obtained with group (1) (+215 mEq/Kg DM). Plasma parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentration decreased significantly (P < 0.05) with decreasing DCAD. The lower DCAD value was recorded with negative DCAD and increased significantly with (zero DCAD), While, the higher were recorded with positive DCAD group. The negative DCAD fed to group (T3) showed significantly (P<0.05) the highest milk yield followed by group (T2) fed (Zero DCAD), while the control group (T1) positive DCAD had the lowest milk yield. Anionic salts didn't affect milk total solid (TS), Ash, Moisture and solid not fat (SNF), However milk protein and fat were increased in treatment (3) when compared with other treatments. The group (T1) fed positive DCAD (+215 mEq/Kg DM) showed significantly (P<0.05) the highest somatic cell count and lactose followed by group (T2) fed (zero DCAD), while, negative DCAD (-150/mEq/Kg DM) fed group (T3) had the lowest. Red Sea marine sponges are an important source of biologically active natural products. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate, for the first time, the components of n-hexane, dichloromethane, and ethyl acetate fractions of Cliona sp. marine sponge collected from the Red Sea, Egypt using UPLC-ESI-MS/MS (Ultra-performance liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry) analysis. The analysis revealed the tentative identification of 23, 16, and 24 compounds from the n-hexane, dichloromethane, and ethyl acetate fractions of Cliona sp., respectively. In addition, the examination of these fractions resulted in the isolation and identification of three sterols and one amino acid. The identification of the isolated compounds was confirmed by 1D and 2D NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), and MS (Mass spectrometry), and IR (Infrared) spectroscopy. The in vitro cytotoxic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities of the total ethanolic extract and its sub-fractions were also evaluated. Interestingly, the ethyl acetate fraction showed potent cytotoxic activity against colon (HCT-116) and human larynx carcinoma (HEP-2) cell lines with IC50 (Half-maximal Inhibitory Concentration) 6.11 ± 0.2 and 12.6 ± 0.9 µg/mL, respectively. However, the dichloromethane fraction showed strong antioxidant activity, with IC50 75.53 ± 3.41 µg/mL. Notably, the total ethanolic extract showed the strongest antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) 62.5 ± 0.82 and 125 ± 0.62 µg/mL, respectively, compared to other fractions. In conclusion, this is the first report on the secondary metabolites content and biological activities of Cliona sp. from the Red Sea, Egypt. It also highlights the need for further research on the most active fractions against various cancer cell lines and resistant bacterial and fungal strains. Three samples of calcite (calcite crystal (CA), calcite of limestone (L.CA), and metamorphosed calcite (marble) (M.CA)) were assessed as adsorbents of Zn (II) to consider the impact of the different geological conditions. The three samples exhibit remarkable changes in their Zn (II) retention capacities (Qsat = 384.6 mg/g (CA), 274.5 mg/g (L.CA), and 512.6 mg/g (M.CA)). The retention systems of the three calcite samples were described on the basis of the suggested statistical physics-based equilibrium studies as well as the traditional kinetic and isotherm models. However, the M.CA samples exhibited the best retention capacity, the steric properties reflecting a higher active site density of CA (Nm (Zn) = 113.46 mg/g) than both M.CA (Nm (Zn) = 82.8 mg/g) and L.CA (Nm (Zn) = 52.4 mg/g) at 323 K. This was assigned to the controlling effect of the sequestered numbers of Zn (II) per site on the surfaces of the calcite phase (n(Zn) = 3.39 (CA), 5.24 (L.CA), and 6.19 (M.CA)) in addition to the higher surface area and ion exchange of the metamorphosed and deformed M.CA. The previous n(Zn) values suggested the retention of Zn (II) by a multi-ionic mechanism in a vertical orientation. The Gaussian energies (8 to 16 KJ/mol) and retention energies (˂40 KJ/mol) of Zn (II) by CA and L.CA suggested complex physical and weak chemical mechanisms involving ion exchange, hydrogen bonding, dipole bonding forces, electrostatic attractions, and van der Waals forces. The thermodynamic properties were illustrated on the basis of the internal energy, free enthalpy, and entropy functions, which validate the endothermic and spontaneous nature of the Zn (II) retention system by the three calcite samples. Black shale deposits are widespread in the Paleogene successions in the Beni Suef area, Egypt. In this work, the mineralogical composition, total organic carbon (TOC), and total sulfur (TS) contents of black shales were determined. The organic matter (OM), thermal maturation, and kerogen type can be determined using Rock-Eval pyrolysis. The results show that smectite and kaolinite are the dominant clay minerals in the analyzed samples. Al2O3 and SiO2 as major elements and Zr as a trace element are dominant constituents of terrigenous origin of the Dabaa and El Fashn formations. The total organic carbon content reaches 2.27 wt% at the El Fashn Formation in the Ghaida Al-Sharqia quarry but 0.36 wt% in the Oligocene Dabaa Formation in the Maydoum quarry. However, the total sulfur content reaches 0.58 wt% in the Dabaa Formation but 1.52 wt% in the El Fashn Formation. These results confirm that (1) the Dabaa Formation was formed in oxidizing environments and oxidized the high volume of OM and (2) the El Fashn Formation accumulated in reducing environments of mostly suboxic conditions. The Rock-Eval pyrolysis results of the black shale deposits reflected a kerogen type III of terrestrial origin of the El Fashn Formation due to the high OM content preservation in suboxic shallow marine environments. The Tmax and production index parameters of Rock-Eval pyrolysis reflected that the black shale deposits in the El Fashn Formation are immature, but with surface retorting, it can generate natural gas. Objectives: To evaluate the long-term outcome of patients who underwent percutaneous transcatheter closure of secundum atrial septal defects during teenage life versus adulthood. Methods: The study included 100 patients with secundum type ASD who were treated by transcatheter closure of their defects 2e5 years before enrollment. The study population was subdivided into 2 equal groups: group 1 who underwent transcatheter closure during teenage life (13e19 years) and group 2 who underwent transcatheter closure after the age of 30 years. The two groups were compared according to resting 12 lead ECG, 24-h Holter ECG and transthoracic echocardiographic findings (Right ventricular size and functions, right atrial size, etc.) Results: The study population showed female predominance. The average follow up period was similar in both groups. Adult patients had more frequent right bundle branch block morphology in their resting 12 lead ECG than teenagers (69% versus 45% respectively, p < 0.01). The incidence of arrhythmias encountered in Holter ECG was also significantly higher in the adult group. Premature atrial contractions (PAC) were present in 10 patients (20%) in adult group while 3 patients (6%) had PACs in teenagers' group with p < 0.01. The mean PAC burden was also higher in the adult group (9% versus 1.3%, p < 0.001). Paroxysmal AF lasting more than 30 seconds was found in 6 patients (12%) in the adult group while 1 patient in teenagers developed AF, p < 0.01. Regarding transthoracic echocardiography, adult patients showed significantly larger RV diameter, indexed RA area, indexed LA volume and more LV diastolic dysfunction. RV systolic functions were better in the teenage group as measured by 2D echocardiography. Adult patients with higher age, bigger defect size and device size had more abnormal ECG and echocardiographic findings. Conclusion: Early trans-catheter closure of secundum ASD during teenage life yields better right ventricular systolic function, better right ventricular size and less incidence of atrial arrhythmia. Marine sponge-derived endozoic fungi have been gaining increasing importance as promising sources of numerous and unique bioactive compounds. This study investigates the phytochemical profile and biological activities of the ethyl acetate extract of Penicillium chrysogenum derived from Cliona sp. sponge. Thirty-six compounds were tentatively identified from P. chrysogenum ethyl acetate extract along with the kojic acid (KA) isolation. The UPLC-ESI-MS/MS positive ionization mode was used to analyze and identify the extract constituents while 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy were used for kojic acid (KA) structure confirmation. The antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities were assessed in vitro. Both the extract and kojic acid showed potent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with MIC 250 ± 0.82 µg/mL. Interestingly, the extract showed strong antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans with MIC 93.75 ± 0.55 and 19.53 ± 0.48 µg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, KA showed the same potency against Fusarium oxysporum and Cryptococcus neoformans with MIC 39.06 ± 0.85 and 39.06 ± 0.98 µg/mL, respectively. Ultimately, KA showed strong antioxidant activity with IC50 33.7 ± 0.8 µg/mL. Moreover, the extract and KA showed strong cytotoxic activity against colon carcinoma (with IC50 22.6 ± 0.8 and 23.4 ± 1.4 µg/mL, respectively) and human larynx carcinoma (with equal IC50 30.8 ± 1.3 and ± 2.1 µg/mL, respectively), respectively. Exploring the metabolic potency of fungi as camptothecin producers raises the hope of their usage as an industrial source of camptothecin, due to their short-life span and the feasibility of metabolic engineering. However, the tiny yield and loss of camptothecin productivity of fungi during storage and sub-culturing are challenges that counteract this approach. Marine fungi could be a novel source for camptothecin production, with higher yield and reliable metabolic sustainability. The marine fungal isolate Penicillium chrysogenum EFBL # OL597937.1 derived from the sponge "Cliona sp." has been morphologically identified and molecularly confirmed, based on the Internal Transcribed Spacer sequence, exhibiting the highest yield of camptothecin (110 μg/L). The molecular structure and chemical identity of P. chrysogenum derived camptothecin has been resolved by HPLC, FTIR and LC-MS/MS analyses, giving the same spectroscopic profiles and mass fragmentation patterns as authentic camptothecin. The extracted camptothecin displayed a strong anti-proliferative activity towards HEP-2 and HCT-116 (IC50 values 0.33–0.35 µM). The yield of camptothecin was maximized by nutritional optimization of P. chrysogenum with a Plackett-Burman design, and the productivity of camptothecin increased by 1.8 fold (200 µg/L), compared to control fungal cultures. Upon storage at 4 °C as slope culture for 8 months, the productivity of camptothecin for P. chrysogenum was reduced by 40% compared to the initial culture. Visual fading of the mycelial pigmentation of P. chrysogenum was observed during fungal storage, matched with loss of camptothecin productivity. Methylene chloride extracts of Cliona sp. had the potency to completely restore the camptothecin productivity of P. chrysogenum, ensuring the partial dependence of the expression of the camptothecin biosynthetic machinery of P. chrysogenum on the chemical signals derived from the sponge, or the associated microbial flora. This is the first report describing the feasibility of P. chrysogenum, endozoic of Cliona sp., for camptothecin production, along with reliable metabolic biosynthetic stability, which could be a new platform for scaling-up camptothecin production. An attempt is made to use cheese whey water (Ww) and sweet potato extract (SPE) separately or in combination to manipulate a cheap and economical media component for large scale production of lactobacilli. Primarily, lactobacilli species were cultivated on de-Man Rogosa and Sharp medium (MRS) then, these strains were grown in (SPE) and (Ww) using a flask fermentation technique at 37°C, followed by applying a statistical experimental design (Plackett-Burman (PB)) via a statistical software MiniTab16 to optimize the media constituents for achieving a large scale production of lactobacilli; with studying the main effect of medium components referring to the most critical nutritional factors in the newly organized medium. Generally, our results indicated that both sweet potato and whey water extract (SPWE); could be used for the growth of lactobacilli instead of (MRS) medium. Further, other experiments were done to show how lactobacilli growth will be affected by pH and various types of whey; using standard plate count method. Highest counts for Lactobacillus acidophilus (2r) and Lactobacillus rhamnosus (190RZFAAU) were at pH 6 and pH 6.5 in (SPWE) medium. Depending on the above investigations; (SPWE) medium including the addition of different types; whey water can be used as an alternative growth medium for lactobacilli instead of MRS which was traditionally used for growing these kinds of Lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The current study focused on evaluation of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) and the oxytetracycline as antioxidant and antiapoptotic potentialities on New Zealand White rabbits (NZW) performance, physiological homeostasis, hematobiochemical indices and stabilized DNA structure resembling in 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8OH2dG) level. For this purpose, four groups (each one compromise of 6 animals) of weaned NZW rabbits aged four weeks were randomly divided as follows: The 1st group preserved as normal control (C) treated with tap water; 2nd group (OXY) treated with daily oral dose of Oxytetracycline 200 mg/kg BW/day; 3rd group (PPE) treated with daily oral dose of 130 mg/kg BW/day of PPE; 4th group OXY + PPE treated with daily oral dose of 100 mg/kg BW/day of OXY + 65 mg/kg BW/day of PPE. The experiment lasted for 8 weeks. Concerning growth parameters, results showed that treatment with PPE and its combination with OXY enhanced body weight and ameliorate the negative effect on liver and kidney function with minimal side effects. In addition, PPE elevate antioxidant parameters. However, OXY decreases the growth parameters (live body weight and body weight gain), total protein, albumin, globulin and A/G ratio levels and induces markedly increases in AST, ALT, creatinine, cortisol, and liver 8OH2dG concentrations. In conclusion, present study aimed to investigate the common side effects of oxytetracycline when compared with natural pomegranate peel extract and suggests that PPE and its combination with OXY at half dose of each ameliorate side effects of oxytetracycline, accelerate body weight and normalize physiological homeostasis.
