Abstract

This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, presents the findings of a multicenter study conducted at six Italian referral centers. The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for lesions involving the ileocecal valve (ICV) compared to other right-side colon lesions. The results showed that ESD is a safe and effective treatment for right-side neoplasia involving the ICV when performed by expert endoscopists in Western referral centers. The study found no significant differences in en-bloc resection rate, R0 resection rate, procedure time, or rates of adverse events between the ICV group and the non-ICV group. Abstract

The article studies the assessment of shot noise in quasi-one-dimensional field-effect transistors on carbon nanotubes and silicon nanowires using a novel method and the influence of Pauli exclusion and Coulomb repulsion between charge carriers. Findings reveal that the influence of Pauli and Coulomb interactions decrease shot noise in strong inversion down to 23%.

The comparison of capacitance-voltage and current-voltage characteristics of template MOS-Cap structures featuring pure Si[O.sub.2] or high-[kappa] gate dielectrics is presented. The discrepancies in capacitance and leakage current are investigated by studying the individual modeling parameters and the internal quantities contributing to current and capacitance.

Abstract

Eleven anthropometric fat patterning variables have been studied in healthy unrelated males aged 19-65 in two populations of Central Asia. Uighurs have higher values than Kazakhs for the characteristics related to fat, with factors related to age taken into account. Principal components analysis indicates that a similar somatic structure may exist in the two groups. Stress, likely related to nutrition and lifestyle in a mountain environment, may account for more adipose tissue in the Kazakhs. The Uighurs live on the plains.

Abstract

This article discusses a study that evaluated the effectiveness and safety of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for high-risk colorectal colitis-associated neoplasia (HR-CAN) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The study included 91 IBD patients who underwent ESD or hybrid-ESD for HR-CANs. The results showed that ESD was effective and safe, with high rates of en bloc and R0 resection. Adverse events occurred in 12.5% of cases but were managed endoscopically and conservatively. The study suggests that ESD can be a viable option for treating HR-CANs in IBD patients, but further research is needed to assess long-term outcomes. [Extracted from the article]

Abstract

The advent of graphene and related 2-D materials has attracted the interest of the electron device research community in the past 14 years. The possibility to boost the transistor performance and the prospects to build novel device concepts with 2-D materials and their heterostructures has awakened a strong experimental interest that requires continuous support from modeling. In this paper, we review the state of the art in the simulation of electron devices based on 2-D materials. We outline the main methods to model the electronic bandstructure and to study electron transport, classifying them in terms of accuracy and computational cost. We briefly discuss, how they can be combined in a multiscale approach to provide a quantitative understanding of the mechanisms determining the operation of electron devices, and we examine the application of these methods to different families of 2-D materials. Abstract

One of the main drawbacks of undoped graphene for digital electronics applications is its am-bipolar behavior. Here we study the trasfer characteristics of transistors based on boron-doped graphene nanoribbons with atomic concentrations up to 0.6%, showing that the presence of doping generates a clear electron-hole transport asymmetry. In order to obtain these results, we introduce a method to accurately reproduce density functional theory (DFT) results using a selfconsistent tight-binding (TB) model with a proper distribution of fixed charges.
