Objectives: To explore whether dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) angiography can provide reliable quantitative information on net water uptake (NWU) of ischemic brain to identify stroke patients within 4.5 h. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 142 patients with stroke occurrence and who underwent DECT angiography between August 2016 and May 2022. DECT angiography manual drawn the ischemic area by referring to the normal area of the contralateral hemisphere and follow-up images. The NWU in the ischemic area was determined using virtual non-contrast and monoenergetic (VNC &VM) images acquired from DECT angiography. This case study conducted a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA) on the production of hardwood lumber in New Brunswick, Canada, evaluating the environmental impacts from raw material extraction to the point where lumber exited the mill as rough green lumber, the primary input for manufacturing pallets and railway ties. Data on annual production, material flow, and energy use for harvesting and sawmilling were gathered through survey questionnaires and on-site visits. The life cycle inventory (LCI) was developed in SimaPro software, the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) was conducted using the North American TRACI method to quantify impact categories, and the cumulative energy demand (CED) method was employed to analyze the total energy consumption. It was found that rough green hardwood lumber production emitted approximately 41 kg CO2−eq/m3 (excluding biogenic carbon storage), with manufacturing accounting for 42% of total emissions and consuming 736 MJ/m3 of total energy, 98% of which came from non-renewable sources. The carbon stored in lumber was 975 CO2 eq/m3, 24 times greater than its cradle-to-gate emissions, highlighting its significant environmental benefit. The processes of hemp bast fiber retting, forming, and drying offer the opportunity for value-added products such as natural fiber-reinforced composites. A new process for the retting of raw bast fibers through enzyme-triggered self-cultured bacterial retting was developed in the lab-scale setup. This study focused on comparing the energy consumption and environmental impacts of this bacterial retting process with the thermochemical retting process currently widely used to obtain lignocellulosic fibers for composites. The gate-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA) models of the two retting processes were constructed to run a comparison analysis using the TRACI (the tool for the reduction and assessment of chemical and other environmental impacts) method for environmental impacts and the cumulative energy demand (CED) method for energy consumptions. This work has demonstrated the advantages of the bacterial retting method from an environmental standpoint. The result of our research shows about a 24% gate-to-gate reduction in CED for bacterial retting and 20–25% lower environmental impacts relating to global warming, smog formation, acidification, carcinogenics, non-carcinogenics, respiratory effects, ecotoxicity, and fossil fuel depletion when compared to that of thermochemical retting. Buildings play a significant role in the rise of energy consumption and carbon emissions. Building operations are responsible for 28% of the world's carbon emissions. It is crucial, therefore, to evaluate the environmental impact of various buildings' operational phase in order to implement sustainable strategies for the mitigation of their energy usage and associated carbon footprint. While numerous studies have been conducted to determine the carbon footprint of conventional building operation phases, there are still a lack of actual data on the operational carbon (OC) emissions of mass timber buildings. There is also a lack of research pertaining to the operational carbon of buildings within larger campuses and their inherent energy usage. This study, therefore, aims to quantify empirical data on the carbon footprint of a mass timber building, using, as a case study, the recent Adohi Hall building, situated at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The study also aims to examine and identify the best energy use scenarios for the campus building under consideration. The research team obtained data on Adohi Hall's energy consumption, fuel input usage, and other utilities (such as water, electricity, chilled water, and natural gas) accounting for the operation of the building from 2021 to 2023, a span of three years. The University of Arkansas Facilities Management (FAMA) provided the data. The study relies on the life cycle assessment (LCA) as its primary approach, with SimaPro 9, Ecoinvent v3.7 database, DataSmart, version 2023.1 and the U.S. Life Cycle Inventory (USLCI) database utilized to model the energy and water consumption of Adohi Hall during the operational phase (B6 & B7). The results indicate 4496 kg CO2 eq emissions associated with the operation per square meter of Adohi Hall over its 50-year lifespan. The study also examines various scenarios of fuel sources leading to carbon emissions and provides insights into reduction strategies during the operational phase of buildings. Among them, the electricity based on a cleaner fuel source diversification, according to realistic expectations and technological advancements projections, results in a 17% reduction in Adohi Hall's OC. Due to the usage of the combined heat and power (CHP) plant on the campus of the University of Arkansas as a complementary source of electricity and heating for Adohi Hall, the resulting carbon emission is approximately 21% (20.73%) less when compared to similar buildings in the same city but outside the campus. The main purpose of this study is to quantify and compare the embodied carbon (EC) from the materials used or designed to build the Adohi Hall, a residence building located on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, AR. It has been constructed as a mass timber structure. It is compared to the same building design with a steel frame for this study. Based on the defined goal and scope of the project, all materials used in the building structure are compared for their global warming potential (GWP) impact by applying a life cycle assessment (LCA) using a cradle-to-construction site system boundary. This comparative building LCA comprises the product stage (including raw material extraction, processing, transporting, and manufacturing) plus transportation to the construction site (nodule A1–A4, according to standard EN 15804 definitions). In this study, GWP is primarily assessed with the exclusion of other environmental factors. Tally®, as one of the most popular LCA tools for buildings, is used in this comparative LCA analysis. In this study, the substitution of mass timber for a steel structure with a corrugated steel deck and concrete topping offers a promising opportunity to understand the GWP impact of each structure. Mass timber structures exhibit superior environmental attributes considering the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2 eq). Emissions per square meter of gross floor area for mass timber stand at 198 kg, in stark contrast to the 243 kg CO2 eq recorded for steel structures. This means the mass timber building achieved a 19% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the functional equivalent steel structure within the building modules A1 to A4 studied. When considering carbon storage, about 2757 tonnes of CO2 eq are stored in the mass timber building, presenting further benefits of carbon emission delays for the life span of the structure. The substitution benefit from this construction case was studied through the displacement factor (DF) quantification following the standard process. A 0.28 DF was obtained when using mass timber over steel in the structure. This study provides insights into making more environmentally efficient decisions in buildings and helps in the move forward to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and address GWP mitigation. Today, the application of green materials in the building industry is the norm rather than the exception and reflects an attempt to mitigate the sector's environmental impacts. Mass timber is growing rapidly in the construction field because of its long span, speed of installation, lightness and toughness, carbon sequestration capabilities, renewability, fire rating, acoustic isolation, and thermal resistance. Mass timber is close to overtaking steel and concrete as the preferred material. The endeavor of this research is to quantitatively assess the ability of this green material to leverage the abatement of carbon emissions. Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a leading method for assessing the environmental impacts of the building sector. The recently completed Adohi Hall mass timber building on the University of Arkansas campus was used as a case study in an investigation to quantify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the construction phase only. The energy used in building operations is the most dominant source of emissions in the building industry and has galvanized research on increasing the efficiency of building operations, but reduced emissions have made the impacts of embodied carbon (EC) components more noticeable in the building life cycle. While most studies have focused on the manufacturing stage, only a few to date have focused on the construction process. Consequently, few data are available on the environmental impacts associated with the installation of mass timber as a new green material. The present study began with the quantification of the materials and an inventory of the equipment used for construction. Then, this study determined the EC associated with running the equipment for building construction. The GHG emissions resulting from the transportation of materials to the site were also quantified. Based on data collected from the construction site, the results of this study indicate that earthwork ranks first in carbon emissions, followed by mass timber installation and construction. In third place is ready-mix poured concrete and rebar installation, followed by Geopiers. A comparison of these results with those in the existing literature shows that the EC generally associated with the building construction phase has been underestimated to date. Government may need to launch policies to stabilize real estate prices being away from unusual rise at an unexpected pace through short-term regulations of sales and purchases. Short-term control policies are often not effective immediately after withdrawal, but their effect easily attracts swift and intensive responses of consumer sentiments. The change in sentiment synchronizes with that of expectations, which together account for housing price in response to restrictions following short-term policies. The research objective of this study is to establish the role of housing sentiment in policymaking to regulate and stabilize real estate prices. To cope with the tough tissue of unclear knowledge about customers' sentiments, we employed the state-space model to explore the impact of short-term regulatory policies on housing sentiment. The research objective of this study also involves optimizing the instrument for assessing housing sentiments. Results showed that: Firstly, the short-term regulation and control policy enhanced positive sentiment in the housing market. Secondly, high positive sentiment further increased the cyclical prices. Thirdly, the upsurge of consumer sentiment has weakened the impact of short-term control policies on real estate market price. Lowered housing sentiment resulted in a reduction in the effectiveness of short-term control policies. Overall, our study verifies that high positive consumer sentiments will result in an increase in housing prices, hence it is customers' sentiments that caused the failure of short-term control policies. Liquiritin (LQ) is an important monomer active component in flavonoids of licorice. The objective of this study was to evaluate the hepatoprotective effects of LQ in cholestatic mice. LQ (40 or 80 mg/kg) was intragastrically administered to mice once daily for 6 days, and mice were treated intragastrically with a single dosage of ANIT (75 mg/kg) on the 5th day. On the 7th day, mice were sacrificed to collect blood and livers. The mRNA and protein levels were determined by qRT‐PCR and western blot assay. We also conducted systematical assessments of miRNAs expression profiles in the liver. LQ ameliorated ANIT‐induced cholestatic liver injury, as evidenced by reduced serum biochemical markers and attenuated pathological changes in liver. Pretreatment of LQ reduced the increase of malondialdehyde, TNF‐α, and IL‐1β induced by ANIT. Moreover, ANIT suppressed the expression of Sirt1 and FXR in liver tissue, which was weakened in the LQ pre‐treatment group. LQ enhanced the nuclear expression of Nrf2, which was increased in the ANIT group. LQ also increased the mRNA expressions of bile acid transporters Bsep, Ntcp, Mrp3, and Mrp4. Furthermore, a miRNA deep sequencing analysis revealed that LQ had a global regulatory effect on the hepatic miRNA expression. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes functional enrichment analysis showed that the differentially expressed miRNAs were mainly related to metabolic pathways, endocytosis, and MAPK signaling pathway. Collectively, LQ attenuated hepatotoxicity and cholestasis by regulating the expression of Sirt1/FXR/Nrf2 and the bile acid transporters, indicating that LQ might be an effective approach for cholestatic liver diseases. This study demonstrated that pre‐treatment of LQ can ameliorate serum biochemical markers, pathological changes in liver, and the increase of MDA, TNF‐α, and IL‐1β induced by ANIT, which suggested that LQ has a protective effect on cholestatic liver injury. Furthermore, the possible mechanism is to induce the expression of Sirt1/FXR/Nrf2 and modulate bile acid transporters BSEP, NTCP, MRP3, and MRP4. The identification of speech emotions is amongst the most strenuous and fascinating fields of machine learning science. In this article, Chinese emotions are classified as a disruptive atmosphere that classifies several feelings into four major emotional organizations: pleasure, sorrow, resentment, and neutrality. A machine learning in human emotion detection (ML-HED) framework is proposed. The technology suggested removing prosodic and spectrum elements of an audio wave, such as a pulse, power, amplitude, Cepstrum melt frequency correlations, linearly fixed Cepstral, and identification with a template. In all, 87,75% of performers' statements and 93% of women's actors were given reliability. The research findings show that the revolutionary technology achieves greater precision by accurately interpreting the feelings, which contrasts with current speech emotion recognition approaches. Backgrounds: Uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC) is one of the greatest threats on the female reproductive system. The aim of this study is to explore the inflammation-related LncRNA (IRLs) signature predicting the clinical outcomes and response of UCEC patients to immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Methods: Consensus clustering analysis was employed to determine inflammation-related subtype. Cox regression methods were used to unearth potential prognostic IRLs and set up a risk model. The prognostic value of the prognostic model was calculated by the Kaplan-Meier method, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and univariate and multivariate analyses. Differential abundance of immune cell infiltration, expression levels of immunomodulators, the status of tumor mutation burden (TMB), the response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), drug sensitivity, and functional enrichment in different risk groups were also explored. Finally, we used quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) to confirm the expression patterns of model IRLs in clinical specimens. Results: All UCEC cases were divided into two clusters (C1 = 454) and (C2 = 57) which had significant differences in prognosis and immune status. Five hub IRLs were selected to develop an IRL prognostic signature (IRLPS) which had value in forecasting the clinical outcome of UCEC patients. Biological processes related to tumor and immune response were screened. Function enrichment algorithm showed tumor signaling pathways (ERBB signaling, TGF-β signaling, and Wnt signaling) were remarkably activated in high-risk group scores. In addition, the high-risk group had a higher infiltration level of M2 macrophages and lower TMB value, suggesting patients with high risk were prone to a immunosuppressive status. Furthermore, we determined several potential molecular drugs for UCEC. Conclusion: We successfully identified a novel molecular subtype and inflammation-related prognostic model for UCEC. Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA), the active metabolic product of Glycyrrhizin (GL) that is the main ingredient of licorice, was reported to protect against α-naphthylisothiocyanate (ANIT)- induced cholestasis. However, its protective mechanism remains unclear. In our work, the cholestatic liver injury in mice was caused by ANIT and GA was used for the treatment. We assessed cholestatic liver injury specific indexes, histopathological changes, bile acid transporters, inflammation and apoptosis. The results of liver biochemical index and histopathological examination showed that GA markedly attenuated ANIT-induced liver injury. Mechanism research suggested that GA could activate the expression of farnesoid x receptor (FXR) and its downstream bile acids transporters Na+/taurocholate co-transporting polypeptide (NTCP), bile salt export pump (BSEP) and multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (MRP2), as well as the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and its downstream proteins MRP3, MRP4. These transporters play a vital role in mediating bile acid homeostasis in hepatocytes. Moreover, GA could significantly inhibit the ANIT-induced activation of the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) inflammatory pathway and the increase of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) concentration in serum. Also, GA protected against ANIT-induced mitochondrial apoptosis by regulating the expression of Bcl-2, Bax, cleaved caspase 3 and cleaved caspase 9. In conclusion, GA alleviates the hepatotoxicity caused by ANIT by regulating bile acids transporters, inflammation and apoptosis, which suggests that GA may be a potential therapeutic agent for cholestasis. The unbridled expansion of bamboo has imposed serious threats on ecosystem processes and functions. Considerable evidence indicates that bamboo invasions can alter plant-available soil nitrogen (N) pools and rates of N cycling, but the consequences of altered N availability for plant growth and community structure have thus far been poorly characterized. The primary soil-accessible N forms for most plants are ammonium (NH4+) and nitrate (NO3−), but plants differ in their ability to use the different N forms, and these differences can be related to their ecological characteristics and drive community structure. In this context, we evaluated the growth response, N uptake and interspecific competition in two subtropical species, Phyllostachys edulis (Carrière) J. Houzeau (Synonym Phyllostachys heterocycla Carrière) and Castanopsis fargesii Franch. dominant species of bamboo and secondary evergreen broad-leaved forests, respectively, under changing N availability in seedlings supplied with different N concentrations and NH4+/NO3− proportions, in vermiculite culture, in a controlled environment. The results show that (i) both species display an NH4+ preference at elevated N concentrations. The growth of P. edulis seedlings was strongly enhanced at increased ratios of NH4+ to NO3− especially at higher N concentrations, but to a much lesser extent in C. fargesii. (ii) NH4+ preference at the level of N uptake in both species was confirmed by the Non-invasive Micro-test Technology and by examining 15N signatures. Phyllostachys edulis had higher NH4+ net fluxes and N concentration under NH4+ treatments than C. fargesii. (iii) NH4+ at higher concentrations caused toxicity in both species as it inhibited root growth and even caused seedling death, but P. edulis had a higher NH4+-tolerance threshold (24 mM) than C. fargesii (16 mM). (iv) When mixed-species cultures were examined in an NH4+-rich medium, the growth of C. fargesii , but not P. edulis , was significantly inhibited compared with growth in monoculture. Therefore, P. edulis exhibited stronger plasticity and adaptation to changing N availability, whereas C. fargesii had low responsiveness and capacity to acclimate to soil N changes. Purpose: It has been demonstrated that, for various types of cancer, the pretreatment albumin/alkaline phosphatase ratio (AAPR) was a prognostic factor. Therefore, in order to determine AAPR's prognostic effect on cancer, the meta-analysis was hereby performed. Patients and methods: The relevant studies conducted before November 10, 2019, were comprehensively searched in Web of Science, PubMed, and Embase. HRs(hazard ratios) with related 95%CIs(confidence intervals) were adopted to estimate AAPR's prognostic impact on overall survival (OS) & disease-free survival (DFS). Results: Our meta-analysis involved thirteen cohort studies, which included 5,204 cases of 8 types. The results of this meta-analysis indicated that higher AAPR was corrected with better OS (pooled HR = 0.52; 95%CI = 0.47–0.58; P<0.001) and DFS (pooled HR = 0.55; 95%CI = 0.47–0.66; P<0.001). Subgroup analysis on OS was based on the cancer system, treatment methods, and cutoff value. Moreover, higher AAPR was statistically in associated with lighter infiltration (pooled OR = 0.79; 95%CI = 0.73–0.85; P<0.001), no lymph nodes metastasis (pooled OR = 0.89; 95%CI = 0.83–0.95; P = 0.001), and no distant metastasis (pooled OR = 0.92; 95%CI = 0.86–0.99; P = 0.028). Conclusion: Higher AAPR was related to better prognosis of cancer, and in cancer therapy, AAPR could be taken as a promising marker of prognosis. It might help physicians to select the most appropriate treatments by evaluating the current status of patients with cancer. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) responds poorly to treatment. Efforts have been exerted to prolong the survival time of PDA, but the 5‐year survival rates remain disappointing. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of PDA development is significant. MEK/ERK pathway signaling has been proven to be important in PDA. lncRNA–mRNA networks have become a vital part of molecular mechanisms in the MEK/ERK pathway. Herein, weighted gene coexpression network analysis was used to investigate the coexpressed lncRNA–mRNA networks in the MEK/ERK pathway based on GSE45765. Differently expressed long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) and messenger RNA (mRNA) were found and 10 modules were identified based on coexpression profiles. Gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes were then performed to analyze the coexpressed lncRNA and mRNA in different modules. PDA cells and tissues were used to validate the analysis results. Finally, we found that NONHSAT185150.1 and B4GALT6 were negatively correlated with MEK1/2. By analyzing GSE45765, the genome‐wide profiles of lncRNA–mRNA network after MEK1/2 was established, which might aid the development of drug‐targeting MEK1/2 and the investigation of diagnostic markers. Background/Aims: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are key regulators in the development and progression of human cancers, however its role in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tumorigenesis is not well understood. The aim of this study is to identify the expression level of circPVT1 in NSCLC and further investigated its functional relevance with NSCLC progression both in vitro and in vivo. Methods: Quantative real-time PCR was used for the measurement of circPVT1 in NSCLC specimens and cell lines. Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis (FISH) assay was used for the identification of sublocation of circPVT1 in NSCLC cells. Bioinformatics analysis, luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) were performed to verify the binding of c-Fos at circPVT1 promoter region, and the direct interaction between circPVT1 and miR-125b. Gain- or loss-function assays were performed to evaluate the effects of circPVT1 on cell proliferation and invasion. Western blot and immunohistochemistry assays were performed to detect the protein levels involved in E2F2 pathway. Results: We found that circPVT1 was upregulated in NSCLC specimens and cells. The transcription factor c-Fos binded to the promoter region of circPVT1, resulting in the overexpression of circPVT1 in NSCLC. Knockdown of circPVT1 suppressed NSCLC cell proliferation, migration and invasion, and increased apoptosis. In addition, circPVT1 mediated NSCLC progression via the regulation of E2F2 signaling pathway. More importantly, circPVT1 was predominantly abundant in the cytoplasm of NSCLC cells, and circPVT1 could serve as a competing endogenous RNA to regulate E2F2 expression and tumorigenesis in a miR-125b-dependent manner, which is further verified by using an in vivo xenograft model. Conclusion: circPVT1 promotes NSCLC cell growth and invasion, and may serve as a promising therapeutic target for NSCLC patients. p62 is a scaffolding adaptor implicated in the clearance of protein aggregates by autophagy. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) can either stimulate or inhibit NFκB-mediated gene expression influencing cellular fate. We studied the effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-mediated oxidative stress and NFκB signaling on p62 expression in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and investigated its role in regulation of autophagy and RPE survival against oxidative damage. Cultured human RPE cell line ARPE-19 and primary human adult and fetal RPE cells were exposed to H2O2-induced oxidative stress. The human apolipoprotein E4 targeted-replacement (APOE4) mouse model of AMD was used to study expression of p62 and other autophagy proteins in the retina. p62, NFκB p65 (total, phosphorylated, nuclear and cytoplasmic) and ATG10 expression was assessed by mRNA and protein analyses. Cellular ROS and mitochondrial superoxide were measured by CM-H2DCFDA and MitoSOX staining respectively. Mitochondrial viability was determined using MTT activity. qPCR-array system was used to investigate autophagic genes affected by p62. Nuclear and cytoplasmic levels of NFκB p65 were evaluated after cellular fractionation by Western blotting. We report that p62 is up-regulated in RPE cells under H2O2-induced oxidative stress and promotes autophagic activity. Depletion of endogenous p62 reduces autophagy by downregulation of ATG10 rendering RPE more susceptible to oxidative damage. NFκB p65 phosphorylation at Ser-536 was found to be critical for p62 upregulation in response to oxidative stress. Proteasome inhibition by H2O2 causes p62-NFκB signaling as antioxidant pre-treatment reversed p62 expression and p65 phosphorylation when RPE was challenged by H2O2 but not when by Lactacystin. p62 protein but not RNA levels are elevated in APOE4-HFC AMD mouse model, suggesting reduction of autophagic flux in disease conditions. Our findings suggest that p62 is necessary for RPE cytoprotection under oxidative stress and functions, in part, by modulating ATG10 expression. Objectives: To explore whether newborns born via Cesarean section have a weaker intraoral vacuum compared with those born vaginally and to determine whether a weaker intraoral vacuum is related to a delayed onset of lactation. Methods: For this prospective cohort study, 71 mother–infant dyads were enrolled and divided into birthing groups, vaginal or Cesarean. The newborn intraoral vacuum was measured via a tube placed alongside the nipple and connected to a pressure sensor during a breast-feeding session within the first 24 hr after birth. Onset of lactation was confirmed by maternal perception of breast fullness. The intraoral vacuum and its relationship with the onset of lactation were analyzed. Results: After adjustment for confounding factors, the peak intraoral vacuum was −19.50 kPa in the vaginal group, which was significantly stronger than the −13.78 kPa in the Cesarean group (p = .005). Additionally, the baseline intraoral vacuum in the vaginal group (−2.35 kPa) was significantly stronger than that in the Cesarean group (−1.18 kPa; p = .022). Strength of the newborn intraoral vacuum was associated with the time of onset of maternal lactation. Conclusion: Cesarean section may weaken newborns’ intraoral vacuum within the first 24 hr after birth. Stronger intraoral vacuum was related to earlier onset of lactation. Liposoluble camptothecin derivative, research name TQ-B3203, is a recently developed investigational antiproliferative agent by our group. The structure of TQ-B3203 is 2-(hexadecyloxycarbonyl)-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-6-yl 7-ethyl-camptothecin-10-yl succinate, containing an SN-38 component, a trolox component, a succinic acid linker, and a hexadecanol chain. In this study, the process-related impurities of bulk TQ-B3203 were identified, characterized, and synthesized. Seven major impurities were revealed based on the mass spectrum (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral data. They were characterized as SN-38 (IMP-I), trolox (IMP-II), 2-(dodecyloxycarbonyl)-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-6-yl 7-ethyl-camptothecin-10-yl succinate (IMP-III), hexadecyl 7-ethyl-camptothecin-10-yl succinate (IMP-IV), 2-(tetradecyloxycarbonyl)-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-6-yl 7-ethyl-camptothecin-10-yl succinate (IMP-V), 4-(2-(hexadecyloxycarbonyl)-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-6-yloxy)-4-oxobutanoic acid (IMP-VI), and 4-(2-(octodecyloxycarbonyl)-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-6-yloxy)-4-oxobutanoic acid (IMP-VII). Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has high sensitivity but low specificity for breast cancer, and consequently, new techniques to improve the specificity of breast MRI in diagnosing breast cancer are under development.Purpose: To assess the ability of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) compared with the ADC ratio (ADCr) to differentially diagnose benign compared with malignant breast lesions.Material and Methods: Forty-eight women with breast lesions (average age, 45 years) underwent MRI scanning including T1-weighted dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) scanning and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). The average ADC and ADCr values for both lesions and pectoralis major muscles (ADCrmuscle and ADCrmuscle) were measured in patients with malignant (n = 25) and benign (n = 23) breast lesions. The ADCr of the contralateral breast (ADCr contralateral) was also evaluated. All histology was confirmed by pathological analysis of biopsied tissue. ADC and ADCr values were analyzed using receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves.Results: For benign lesions compared with malignant lesions, lesion-side ADC was 1.45 vs. 1.05, respectively (P < 0.001), normal-side ADC was 1.82 vs.1.64 (P = 0.002), ADCrmuscle was 1.35 vs. 0.9 (P < 0.001), and ADCrcontralateral was 0.79 vs. 0.64 (P = 0.001). ADCrmuscle showed higher sensitivity (82.61%) and specificity (96.00%) than ADCrcontralateral (60.87% and 92.00%, respectively) and ADC (69.57% and 96.00%) for discriminating malignant from benign lesions. The AUC using ADCrmuscle had higher discriminatory power (0.92, P < 0.001) for malignant versus benign breast lesions compared with either ADC (0.82, P < 0.001) or ADCrcontralateral (0.78, P = 0.001).Conclusion: The ADCrmuscle value showed higher sensitivity and specificity and improved diagnostic accuracy compared with either ADC or ADCrcontralateral in differentiating benign from malignant breast lesions. Objective: To develop and externally validate a CT‐based radiomics nomogram for the pre‐operative prediction of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Methods: 357 patients derived from 2 centers with pathologically confirmed CRC were included in this retrospective study. Two‐dimensional (2D) and three‐dimensional (3D) radiomics features were extracted from portal venous phase CT images. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithm and logistic regression were used for constructing 2D and 3D radiomics models. The radiomics nomogram was developed by integrating the radiomics score (rad‐score) and the clinical risk factor. Results: The rad‐score was significantly higher in the LVI+ group than in the LVI‐ group (p < 0.05). The area under the curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of the 3D radiomics model were higher than those of the 2D radiomics model. The AUCs of 3D and 2D radiomics models in the training set were 0.82 (95% CI: 0.75–0.89) and 0.74 (95% CI: 0.66–0.82); in the internal validation set were 0.75 (95% CI: 0.65–0.85) and 0.67 (95% CI: 0.56–0.78); in the external validation set were 0.75 (95% CI: 0.64–0.86) and 0.57 (95% CI: 0.45–0.69); respectively. The AUCs of the nomogram integrating the optimal 3D rad‐score and clinical risk factors (CT‐reported T stage, CT‐reported lymph node status) in the internal set and external validation set were 0.82 (95% CI: 0.73–0.91) and 0.80 (95% CI: 0.68–0.91), respectively. Conclusion: Both 2D and 3D radiomics models can predict LVI status of CRC. The nomogram combining the optimal 3D rad‐score and clinical risk factors further improved predictive performance. Advances in knowledge: This is the first study to compare the difference in performance of CT‐based 2D and 3D radiomics models for the pre‐operative prediction of LVI in CRC.
