Salt (sodium chloride, NaCl) is a vital ingredient in fermented foods, which affects their safety, texture, and flavor characteristics. Recently, the demand for reduced-sodium fermented foods has increased, as consumers have become more health-conscious. However, reducing sodium content in fermented foods may negatively affect flavor perception, which is a critical quality attribute of fermented foods for both the food industry and consumers. This review summarizes the role of salt in the human body and foods and its role in the flavor perception of fermented foods. Current sodium reduction strategies used in the food industry mainly include the direct stealth reduction of NaCl, substituting NaCl with other chloride salts, and structure modification of NaCl. The odor-induced saltiness enhancement, application of starter cultures, flavor enhancers, and non-thermal processing technology are potential strategies for flavor compensation of sodium-reduced fermented foods. However, reducing sodium in fermented food is challenging due to its specific role in flavor perception (e.g., promoting saltiness and volatile compound release from food matrices, inhibiting bitterness, and changing microflora structure). Therefore, multiple challenges must be addressed in order to improve the flavor of low-sodium fermented foods. Methionine and choline both are essential nutrients which are needed for methyl group metabolism. A methionine-choline-deficient (MCD) diet leads to pathological changes in the kidney. The mechanism of the MCD diet is complex, and fundamental research is still required to provide a better understanding of the driving forces behind it. We evaluated the regional effects of the MCD diet on the metabolites of mouse kidney tissue using desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry imaging technology. A total of 20, 17, and 13 metabolites were significantly changed in the cortex, outer medulla, and inner medulla, respectively, of the mouse kidney tissue after the administration of the MCD diet. Among the discriminating metabolites, only three metabolites (guanidoacetic acid, serine, and nicotinamide riboside) were significantly increased, and all the other metabolites showed a significant decrease. The results showed that there were significant region-specific changes in the serine metabolism, carnitine metabolism, choline metabolism, and arginine metabolism. Objectives: This study aims to decrease the scan time and enhance image quality in pediatric total-body PET imaging by utilizing multimodal artificial intelligence techniques. Methods: A total of 270 pediatric patients who underwent total-body PET/CT scans with a uEXPLORER at the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center were retrospectively enrolled. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) was administered at a dose of 3.7 MBq/kg with an acquisition time of 600 s. Short-term scan PET images (acquired within 6, 15, 30, 60 and 150 s) were obtained by truncating the list-mode data. A three-dimensional (3D) neural network was developed with a residual network as the basic structure, fusing low-dose CT images as prior information, which were fed to the network at different scales. The short-term PET images and low-dose CT images were processed by the multimodal 3D network to generate full-length, high-dose PET images. The nonlocal means method and the same 3D network without the fused CT information were used as reference methods. The performance of the network model was evaluated by quantitative and qualitative analyses. Results: Multimodal artificial intelligence techniques can significantly improve PET image quality. When fused with prior CT information, the anatomical information of the images was enhanced, and 60 s of scan data produced images of quality comparable to that of the full-time data. Conclusion: Multimodal artificial intelligence techniques can effectively improve the quality of pediatric total-body PET/CT images acquired using ultrashort scan times. The NAC gene family has transcription factors specific to plants, which are involved in development and stress response and adaptation. In this study, ZmNAC89, an NAC gene in maize that plays a role in saline–alkaline tolerance, was isolated and characterized. ZmNAC89 was localized in the nucleus and had transcriptional activation activity during in vitro experiments. The expression of ZmNAC89 was strongly upregulated under saline–alkaline, drought and ABA treatments. Overexpression of the ZmNAC89 gene in transgenic Arabidopsis and maize enhanced salt tolerance at the seedling stage. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were then confirmed via RNA-sequencing analysis with the transgenic maize line. GO analyses showed that oxidation–reduction process-regulated genes were involved in ZmNAC89-mediated salt–alkaline stress. ZmNAC89 may regulate maize saline–alkali tolerance through the REDOX pathway and ABA signal transduction pathway. From 140 inbred maize lines, 20 haplotypes and 16 SNPs were found in the coding region of the ZmNAC89 gene, including the excellent haplotype HAP20. Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is widely recognized as a major contributing factor to the development of heart failure in patients with diabetes. Previous studies have demonstrated the potential benefits of traditional herbal medicine for alleviating the symptoms of cardiomyopathy. We have chemically designed and synthesized a novel compound called aloe-emodin derivative (AED), which belongs to the aloe-emodin (AE) family of compounds. AED was formed by covalent binding of monomethyl succinate to the anthraquinone mother nucleus of AE using chemical synthesis techniques. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects and mechanisms of AED in treating DCM. We induced type 2 diabetes in Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats by administering a high-fat diet and streptozotocin (STZ) injections. The rats were randomly divided into six groups: control, DCM, AED low concentration (50 mg/kg/day), AED high concentration (100 mg/kg/day), AE (100 mg/kg/day), and positive control (glyburide, 2 mg/kg/day) groups. There were eight rats in each group. The rats that attained fasting blood glucose of ˃16.7 mmol/L were considered successful models. We observed significant improvements in cardiac function in the DCM rats with both AED and AE following four weeks of intragastric treatment. However, AED had a more pronounced therapeutic effect on DCM compared to AE. AED exhibited an inhibitory effect on the inflammatory response in the hearts of DCM rats and high-glucose-treated H9C2 cells by suppressing the pyroptosis pathway mediated by the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor pyrin domain 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis of differentially expressed genes showed a significant enrichment in the NOD-like receptor signaling pathway compared to the high-glucose group. Furthermore, overexpression of NLRP3 effectively reversed the anti-pyroptosis effects of AED in high-glucose-treated H9C2 cells. This study is the first to demonstrate that AED possesses the ability to inhibit myocardial pyroptosis in DCM. Under potent policy support, China's photovoltaic (PV) and wind power industries have scored remarkable achievements. However, the mechanism of how the policy remains controversial. Based on the data of 62 listed companies from 2007 to 2020, this study constructs fixed-effect models and PSM models to investigate the effect of government subsidies and tax incentives on the technical efficiency of China's PV and wind power companies, as well as the role of R&D investment and operation efficiency. The results indicate that government support policies have a different impact on the companies' technical efficiency. Subsidies have significant inhibitory effects on technical efficiency by squeezing out private R&D investment. Meanwhile, tax incentives boost technical efficiency and operation efficiency recur to a mediating role. This paper generalizes the structural Markov properties for undirected decomposable graphs to arbitrary ones. This helps us to exploit the conditional independence properties of joint prior laws to analyze and compare multiple graphical structures, while being able to take advantage of the common conditional independence constraints. This work provides a theoretical support for full Bayesian posterior updating about the structure of a graph using data from a certain distribution. Objectives: To compare the diagnostic and staging efficacy of PET/diagnostic-level CT (PET/DxCT) and PET/low-dose CT (PET/LDCT) in pretreatment pediatric lymphoma patients and to estimate the reduction of the CT effective dose in the PET/CT scan. Methods: One hundred and five pediatric patients who underwent total-body PET/CT examination were enrolled and divided into the DxCT group (n = 47) and LDCT group (n = 58) according to their dose levels. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of PET/DxCT and PET/LDCT for detecting the involvement of lymph node, spleen, bone marrow, and other extranodal organs in pretreatment lymphoma were compared. ROC analysis was performed to evaluate the integral efficiency. The staging accuracies based on PET/DxCT and PET/LDCT were also evaluated. Dosimetry was calculated for DxCT and LDCT, and the reduction in the effective dose was estimated. Results: In the diagnosis of nodal, splenic, bone marrow, and other extranodal involvement, the differences in sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV between PET/LDCT and PET/DxCT were not significant (all p values ∈ [0.332, 1.000]). Both modalities had accuracies above 90% and the ROC analysis indicated good or high efficiency in diagnosing all patterns of lymphoma involvement. PET/LDCT and PET/DxCT each had a staging accuracy of 89.7% and 89.4%, respectively. LDCT had a comparable image quality score with DxCT, with a significant increase in noise (p < 0.001) and a 66.1% reduction in effective dose. Conclusions: PET/LDCT allowed for a 66.1% CT effective dose reduction compared to PET/DxCT in pediatric lymphoma patients without compromising the diagnostic and staging efficacy. The 2-m temperature is one of the important meteorological elements, and improving the accuracy of medium- and long-term forecasts of the 2-m temperature is important. The similarity forecasting method is widely used as a calibration technique in the statistical postprocessing of numerical weather prediction (NWP). In this study, the analogue ensemble averaging method is used to correct the deterministic forecast of the 2-m temperature with a forecast lead time from 180 h to 348 h using the CMA-GEPS model. The bias, mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean square error (RMSE) are used as the evaluation metrics. In comparison with NWP, the systematic error of the model for 2-m temperature is effectively reduced during each forecast period when using the analogue ensemble averaging method. In addition, the differences in forecast errors between regions are reduced, and the accuracy of 2-m temperature forecasts over complex terrain, especially in Southwest China, Northwest China, and North China, is improved using this method. In the future, there is certainly potential to apply the analogue ensemble averaging method to the bias correction of medium- and long-term forecasts of more meteorological elements. Lenvatinib is a novel oral angiogenesis inhibitor approved in China for the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) without prior systemic treatment. We described the population pharmacokinetics of lenvatinib in Chinese patients with advanced HCC and explore the potential patient characteristics associated with lenvatinib pharmacokinetics using real‐world data. A total of 266 samples, provided by 127 Chinese patients with advanced HCC, were analyzed by nonlinear mixed‐effects modeling. Monte Carlo simulation was conducted to assess impact of covariates on the exposure to lenvatinib. The clearance of lenvatinib in Chinese patients with advanced HCC was 5.3 L/h, and alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, and sex were identified as important covariates associated with it. The clearance of Child‐Pugh class B patients (4.82L/h) was significantly lower than that of Child‐Pugh class A patients (5.53 L/h), and the systemic exposure increased with the increase of alkaline phosphatase and total bilirubin. There were sex differences in the pharmacokinetic characteristics of lenvatinib. The clearance of women was significantly lower than that of men (4.61 vs 5.6 L/h; P <.001), and the area under the plasma concentration–time curve of women was ≈20% higher than that of men. In this study, a population pharmacokinetic model of lenvatinib was established, which can be used to simulate clinical trials or various dosing scenarios. Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a primary cause of neonatal death and disabilities. The pathogenetic process of HIE is closely associated with neuroinflammation. Therefore, targeting and suppressing inflammatory pathways presents a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of HIE. Echinatin is an active component of glycyrrhiza, with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties. It is commonly combined with other traditional Chinese herbs to exert heat-clearing and detoxifying effects. This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects of Echinatin in neonatal rats with hypoxic-ischemic brain damage, as well as in PC12 cells exposed to oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD). In vivo , Echinatin effectively reduced cerebral edema and infarct volume, protected brain tissue morphology, improved long-term behavioral functions, and inhibited microglia activation. These effects were accompanied by the downregulation of inflammatory factors and pyroptosis markers. The RNA sequencing analysis revealed an enrichment of inflammatory genes in rats with hypoxic-ischemic brain damage, and Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis identified TLR4, MyD88, and NF-κB as the key regulators. In vitro , Echinatin reduced the levels of TLR4 relevant proteins, inhibited nuclear translocation of NF-κB, reduced the expression of downstreams inflammatory cytokines and pyroptosis proteins, and prevented cell membrane destructions. These findings demonstrated that Echinatin could inhibit the TLR4/NF-κB pathway, thereby alleviating neuroinflammation and pyroptosis. Traditional Chinese fermented foods are favored by consumers due to their unique flavor, texture and nutritional values. A large number of microorganisms participate in the process of fermentation, especially lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which are present in almost all fermented foods and contribute to flavor development. The formation process of flavor is complex and involves the biochemical conversion of various food components. It is very important to fully understand the conversion process to direct the flavor formation in foods. A comprehensive link between the LAB community and the flavor formation in traditional Chinese fermented foods is reviewed. The main mechanisms involved in the flavor formation dominated by LAB are carbohydrate metabolism, proteolysis and amino acid catabolism, and lipolysis and fatty acid metabolism. This review highlights some useful novel approaches for flavor enhancement, including the application of functional starter cultures and metabolic engineering, which may provide significant advances toward improving the flavor of fermented foods for a promising market. Salt is important for food flavor, but excessive sodium intake leads to adverse health consequences. Thus, salty and saltiness-enhancing peptides are developed for sodium-reduction products. This review elucidates saltiness perception process and analyses correlation between the peptide structure and saltiness-enhancing ability. These peptides interact with taste receptors to produce saltiness perception, including ENaC, TRPV1, and TMC4. This review also outlines preparation, isolation, purification, characterization, screening, and assessment techniques of these peptides and discusses their potential applications. These peptides are from various sources and produced through enzymatic hydrolysis, microbial fermentation, or Millard reaction and then separated, purified, identified, and screened. Sensory evaluation, electronic tongue, bioelectronic tongue, and cell and animal models are the primary saltiness assessment approaches. Designing multifunctional cathode materials is essential to address the critical issues of poor cycle stability and sluggish reaction kinetics in the aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). Here, the spinel-type bimetallic MnCo 2 O 4 with a porous, layered, irregular cubic structure was synthesized using hydrothermal method, which was employed as a cathode material for high performance AZIBs. The design strategy involving bimetallic oxides offers more electrochemically active sites than monometallic oxides. Simultaneously, the unique porous structure of MnCo 2 O 4 facilitates faster ions and electrons transport, which alleviates the problems of volume expansion and structural collapse that occurring in the cathode material during cycling. As a result, the MnCo 2 O 4 electrode exhibits superior zinc storage performance with a high reversible specific capacity of 332.1 mAh g−1 and excellent cycle stability after 65 cycles at a current density of 0.3 A g−1. Hyperlipidemia (HLP) is a prevalent metabolic disorder and a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. According to recent discoveries, super-enhancers (SEs) play a role in the increased expression of genes that encode important regulators of both cellular identity and the progression of diseases. However, the underlying function of SEs in the development of HLP is still unknown. We performed an integrative analysis of data on H3K27ac ChIP-seq and RNA sequencing obtained from liver tissues of mice under a low-fat diet (LFD) and high-fat diet (HFD) from GEO database. The rank ordering of super enhancers algorithm was employed for the computation and identification of SEs. A total of 1,877 and 1,847 SEs were identified in the LFD and HFD groups, respectively. The SE inhibitor JQ1 was able to potently reverse lipid deposition and the increased intracellular triglyceride and total cholesterol induced by oleic acid, indicating that SEs are involved in regulating lipid accumulation. Two hundred seventy-eight were considered as HFD-specific SEs (HSEs). GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis of the upregulated HSEs-associated genes revealed that they were mainly involved in lipid metabolic pathway. Four hub genes, namely Cd36, Pex11a, Ech1 , and Cidec , were identified in the HSEs-associated protein‐protein interaction network, and validated with two other datasets. Finally, we constructed a HSEs-specific regulatory network with Cidec and Cd36 as the core through the prediction and verification of transcription factors. Background: Autohydrolysis is an extensively investigated pretreatment method due to its environmental friendliness. During autohydrolysis, most xylan from hemicellulose can be converted into xylooligosaccharides (XOS), and cellulose in the autohydrolyzed residues can be transformed into glucose after enzymatic hydrolysis. Both of these are value-added biochemicals in the biorefining process. In this work, paper mulberry (PM), which contains abundant protein, was utilized as a raw material to coproduce XOS and single-cell protein (SCP) through autohydrolysis and fermentation technologies. Results: The results showed that 8.3 g of XOS and 1.8 g of amino acids could be recovered in the autohydrolysate (based on 100 g raw material) after autohydrolysis (170 °C, 1 h). Moreover, 5.7 g of low-DP XOS along with 1.8 g of amino acids could be further obtained from the autohydrolysate after hydrolysis with endo-β-1-4-xylanase. In addition, 20.1 g of fermentable monosaccharides was recovered after hydrolyzing the autohydrolyzed PM with cellulase, which can be used to produce 4.8 g of SCP after fermentation with Candida utilis. Conclusion: As a valuable application of PM, a novel process is proposed to coproduce amino acid-rich XOS and SCP through autohydrolysis. Emotions are generally considered to be important elements of consumer behavior, but little research has investigated the link between emotions and consumers' adoption behavior relating to electric vehicles (EVs). To address this gap, this study examines the roles of emotions in EV adoption intention by focusing on pride and guilt and explores the impact of perceived value on these causal processes. We proposed a research model and empirically tested it using 405 survey responses collected from China. The structural equation modeling analysis results indicate that both pride and guilt significantly affect EV adoption intention, and the effect of pride is stronger than that of guilt. Perceived value mediates the relationships between emotions and EV adoption behavior. We also found differences between men and women. The findings of this study contribute to a better understanding of the role of emotions in consumers' EV adoption behavior, and provide recommendations for the promotion of EVs. With the increasing number of underground engineering construction projects such as coal mining, tunnel, and subway, water inrush disasters occur more and more frequently. Inspired by the phenomenon of microbial mineralization and diagenesis, microbial-induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) is used to repair cracks in cement-based materials, which provides a new idea to solve the problem of water inrush. To investigate the self-healing properties of microbial capsules, this paper selected epoxy resin E-51 cured by DMP-30 as the wall material and Bacillus pasteurii as the core materials for experiments. In this paper, a single-factor method was adopted to determine the optimal preparation process of microbial capsules and the oil-phase separation method to prepare the microbial capsules. The effects of various factors on the experimental results under different core-wall ratios, reaction time, reaction temperatures, and agitation rates were analyzed. Microbial capsules were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and optical microscopy to explore the functional groups and features of microbial capsules. The experimental results showed that the microbial capsules achieved the best performance with a core-to-wall ratio of 1 : 3, a reaction temperature of 50°C, a reaction time of 40 min, and a stirring rate of 300 rpm. Meanwhile, we determined the spore survival rate of microbial capsules and finally studied the waterproofness, storage stability, and rupture under the pressure of microbial capsules. Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a life-threatening complication in patients with cirrhosis. We aimed to develop an explainable machine learning model to achieve the early prediction and outcome interpretation of SBP. We used CatBoost algorithm to construct MODEL-1 with 46 variables. After dimensionality reduction, we constructed MODEL-2. We calculated and compared the sensitivity and negative predictive value (NPV) of MODEL-1 and MODEL-2. Finally, we used the SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) method to provide insights into the model's outcome or prediction. MODEL-2 (AUROC: 0.822; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.783–0.856), liked MODEL-1 (AUROC: 0.822; 95% CI 0.784–0.856), could well predict the risk of SBP in cirrhotic ascites patients. The 6 most influential predictive variables were total protein, C-reactive protein, prothrombin activity, cholinesterase, lymphocyte ratio and apolipoprotein A1. For binary classifier, the sensitivity and NPV of MODEL-1 were 0.894 and 0.885, respectively, while for MODEL-2 they were 0.927 and 0.904, respectively. We applied CatBoost algorithm to establish a practical and explainable prediction model for risk of SBP in cirrhotic patients with ascites. Artificial meat offers a potential solution to consumer demand for meat, given global environmental concerns, public health problems, sustainability, and animal welfare problems. Although artificial meat may supplement or even replace traditional meat, it is still a challenge to reproduce muscle tissue's hierarchical structure. This review focused on the research history of artificial meat, the current technological challenges and possible solutions, and analyzed consumer attitudes toward artificial meat. Key findings and conclusions : With the rapid development of tissue engineering and bioreactor engineering, the new technologies for cultured meat have been continuously developed and improved. Extrusion, shear cell, and spinning are the main techniques for plant-based meat and its market has been expanding. Consumer attitudes toward cultured and plant-based meat vary by demographics and across cultures. Estimation of low or high conditional quantiles is called for in many applications, but commonly encountered data sparsity at the tails of distributions makes this a challenging task. We develop a Bayesian joint-quantile regression method to borrow information across tail quantiles through a linear approximation of quantile coefficients. Motivated by a working likelihood linked to the asymmetric Laplace distributions, we propose a new Bayesian estimator for high quantiles by using a delayed rejection and adaptive Metropolis and Gibbs algorithm. We demonstrate through numerical studies that the proposed estimator is generally more stable and efficient than conventional methods for estimating tail quantiles, especially at small and modest sample sizes. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to clarify what specific behaviors are involved in consumers' partial switching in mobile application (app) usage, and, second, to explore the common and differential motivations of these behaviors. Design/methodology/approach: This paper specified two behaviors in consumers' partial switching in mobile app usage, trialing and combining behaviors, and conceptualized them as different types of variety seeking behaviors. A theoretical model contrasting intrinsic motivations and extrinsic motivations on the two behaviors was developed and tested with a sample of 561 mobile app users in China. Findings: The findings showed that both trialing and combining behaviors could be motivated by intrinsic individual-related and extrinsic technology-related factors. Besides, intrinsic individual-related factors were more effective in motivating trialing behavior, whereas extrinsic technology-related factors were more effective in motivating combining behavior. All these findings are applicable and consistent in both hedonic and utilitarian apps. Originality/value: This study extends and advances the literature on information technology switching by investigating consumer use behaviors from a new perspective of partial switching and multiple competing apps usage. This study also contributes to variety seeking literature by extending the understanding of variety seeking to the context of mobile app usage. This paper aimed to explore the risk factors of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) related thrombosis (PICC-RT) in tumor patients mediated by ultrasound images under minimum variance (MV) algorithm and put forward the corresponding nursing intervention methods based on the risk factors. The smoothing algorithm, diagonal loading algorithm, and coherence factor algorithm were optimized via MV algorithm. The optimized algorithm was compared with other algorithms to analyze its image quality and image processing speed. Literature retrieval was conducted to analyze the risk factors of PICC-RT in tumor patients. Tumor patients who received PICC for chemotherapy in the hospital from June 2018 to December 2019 were selected. Patients who were accepted before the experiment were taken as the controls, and there were control group (89 cases) and observation group (91 cases). Exercise, average flow rate of axillary vein per unit time, and PICC-RT were compared between the two groups. The results showed that the optimized algorithm (MV-N) had better image resolution, image contrast, and calculation speed than other algorithms. Gender, body mass index (BMI), pathological type, clinical stage, disease history, fibrinogen (FIB), and use of anticoagulant drugs were risk factors for PICC-RT in tumor patients. The number of PICC-RT and complications in the observation group was notably lower in contrast to the control group (P < 0.05). It indicated that a novel algorithm was successfully established, which could increase the ultrasonic image quality and computing speed, and upper limb exercise could reduce the incidence of PICC-RT and its complications in tumor patients. Background: Tamoxifen (TAM) and Toremifene (TOR), two kinds of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), have equal efficacy in breast cancer patients. However, TAM has been proved to affect serum lipid profiles and cause fatty liver disease. The study aimed to compare the effects of TAM and TOR on fatty liver development and lipid profiles.Methods: This study performed a retrospective analysis of 308 SERMs-treated early breast cancer patients who were matched 1:1 based on propensity scores. The follow-up period was 3 years. The primary outcomes were fatty liver detected by ultrasonography or computed tomography (CT), variation in fibrosis indexes, and serum lipid profiles change.Results: The cumulative incidence rate of new-onset fatty liver was higher in the TAM group than in the TOR group (113.2 vs. 67.2 per 1000 person-years, p < 0.001), and more severe fatty livers occurred in the TAM group (25.5 vs. 7.5 per 1000 person-years, p = 0.003). According to the Kaplan-Meier curves, TAM significantly increased the risk of new-onset fatty liver (25.97% vs. 17.53%, p = 0.0243) and the severe fatty liver (5.84% vs. 1.95%, p = 0.0429). TOR decreased the risk of new-onset fatty liver by 45% (hazard ratio = 0.55, p = 0.020) and showed lower fibrotic burden, independent of obesity, lipid, and liver enzyme levels. TOR increased triglycerides less than TAM, and TOR increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, while TAM did the opposite. No significant differences in total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol are observed between the two groups.Conclusions: TAM treatment is significantly associated with more severe fatty liver disease and liver fibrosis, while TOR is associated with an overall improvement in lipid profiles, which supports continuous monitoring of liver imaging and serum lipid levels during SERM treatment. Background. Accurate delineation of tumor margin is essential for complete resection of early gastric cancer (EGC). The objective of this study is to assess the performance of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) for the accurate demarcation of EGC margins. Methods. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases up to March 2020 to identify eligible studies. The diagnostic accuracy of ME-NBI for EGC margins was calculated, and subgroup analyses were performed based on tumor size, depth of tumor invasion, tumor-occupied site, macroscopic type, histological type, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), and endoscopists' experience. Besides, we also evaluated the negative and positive resection rates of the horizontal margin (HM) of EGC after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and surgery. Results. Ten studies comprising 1018 lesions were eligible in the databases. The diagnostic accuracy of ME-NBI for the demarcation of EGC margins was 92.4% (95% confidence interval (CI): 86.7%-96.8%). According to ME-NBI subgroup analyses, the rate of accurate evaluation of EGC margins was not associated with H. pylori infection status, tumor size, depth of tumor invasion, tumor-occupied site, macroscopic type, histological type, and endoscopists' experience, and no statistical differences were found in subgroup analyses. Carbon dots (CDs) with different doping elements were successfully synthesized via a simple hydrothermal strategy. 3-amino-4-chlorophenylboronic acid, 3-aminobenzeneboronic acid, aniline, and benzene were used as precursors, respectively. The B/N co-doping CDs (BNCDs) derived from 3-aminobenzeneboronic acid show brightest fluorescence among the CDs products with quantum yield at 0.15. The fluorescence of BNCDs exhibits good photostability and excitation-independent emission behavior. The bright blue emission of BNCDs can be quenched by serine, which is a kind of neutral aliphatic amino acid containing hyroxyl groups with polarity. It is possibly due to the molecular collision between excited state of BNCDs and the ground state of serine. BNCDs can be served as fluorophore probe for the assay of serine based on the efficient quenching effect. The approach for the determination of serine shows a high sensitivity with a detection limit at 0.14 nM, which is lower than those of previous works. Furthermore, the present BNCDs system can be employed to monitor serine in real food and biological samples. Background/Aims: The aim of this study was to develop a tool to predict multidrug-resistant bacteria infections among patients with biliary tract infection for targeted therapy. Patients and Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective descriptive study from January 2016 to December 2018. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis were used to identify independent risk factors of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. A nomogram was constructed according to multivariable regression model. Moreover, the clinical usefulness of the nomogram was estimated by decision curve analysis. Results: 121 inpatients were randomly divided into a training cohort (n = 79) and validation cohort (n = 42). In multivariate analysis, 5 factors were associated with biliary tract infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacterial infections: aspartate aminotransferase (Odds ratio (OR), 13.771; 95% confidence interval (CI), 3.747-64.958; P < 0.001), previous antibiotic use within 90 days (OR, 4.130; 95% CI, 1.192-16.471; P = 0.032), absolute neutrophil count (OR, 3.491; 95% CI, 1.066-12.851; P = 0.046), previous biliary surgery (OR, 3.303; 95% CI, 0.910-13.614; P = 0.079), and hemoglobin (OR, 0.146; 95% CI, 0.030-0.576; P = 0.009). The nomogram model was constructed based on these variables, and showed good calibration and discrimination in the training set [area under the curve (AUC), 0.86] and in the validation set (AUC, 0.799). The decision curve analysis demonstrated the clinical usefulness of our nomogram. Using the nomogram score, high risk and low risk patients with multidrug-resistant bacterial infection could be differentiated. Microbial Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) is a biochemical process widely found in nature, also known as microbial mineralization. This paper investigates whether this process can help promote the intelligent reinforcement and repair of underground projects such as mines and tunnels. We selected Bacillus sphaericus and Bacillus mucilaginosus as the research objects. The former has an outstanding urease production ability, and the latter can secrete carbonic anhydrase in vitro. Bacillus mucilaginosus was introduced into the culture solution of Bacillus sphaericus in the most suitable culture environment, and the changes of mineralization rate and mineralization yield of Bacillus sphaericus were observed and analyzed. The results revealed that, to maintain the highest growth rate of Bacillus sphaericus, the optimal pH value was between 7 and 8, the optimal urea concentration was 0.5 mol/L, the optimal Ca2+ concentration was 0.6 mol/L, and the optimal Luria-Bertani (LB) culture concentration was 20 g/L. The amount of biomineralized calcium carbonate precipitated in the double bacteria solution can reach 1.89 times the amount of the precipitation in the Bacillus sphaericus solution under the same conditions. It concludes that the introduction of Bacillus mucilaginosus can effectively increase the mineralization yield of Bacillus sphaericus without affecting the mineralized products. Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that is predominantly mediated by T-lymphocytes and keratinocytes. Tacrolimus is T cell-targeted immunosuppression drug that has been widely used in topical therapy of psoriasis; however, the pharmacologic effect of tacrolimus on human keratinocytes has not been fully clarified. This study aimed to investigate the potential regulatory effect of tacrolimus on TNF-α/ IL-17A-costimulated human keratinocytes in the mimic psoriatic microenvironment. The cultured normal human keratinocytes (NHKs) were divided into the following groups: control, TNF-α/IL-17A, tacrolimus, and TNF-α/IL-17A + tacrolimus. Cultured cells and supernatant were collected after 24 h, and then real-time quantitative PCR, western blot, and ELISA analysis were performed. Foreskin tissues were treated by using TNF-α, IL-17A, and tacrolimus 0.03% ointment and then cultured for 24 h, and immunohistochemistry was performed. NHKs expressed significant IL-36γ, CCL-20, IL-1β, S100-A9, and CXCL-1 mRNA after TNF-α/IL-17A treatment. Tacrolimus significantly inhibited TNF-α/IL-17A-induced IL-36γ, CCL-20, IL-1β, and S100-A9 expression at gene level and IL-36γ and CCL-20 expression at protein level. We further discovered TNF-α/IL-17A induced significant IκBζ mRNA and protein expression in NHKs, which could be inhibited by tacrolimus. This study investigated the purification and biochemical characterization of the protease produced by Lactobacillus fermentum R6 isolated from Harbin dry sausages. The optimized fermentation conditions were as follows: a fermentation time of 48 h, an initial pH of 6 and a fermentation temperature of 37 °C. The 37.7 kDa extracellular protease was purified using ammonium sulphate deposition, an ion exchange layer system and gel filtration. The protease produced by L. fermentum R6 had the highest initial velocity and k cat / K m at pH 6, 40 °C. The microbial protease activity could be inhibited by ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA). The V max and K m of the protease were 58.2 ± 1.42 mg/min and 17.3 ± 0.85 mg/mL, respectively. Sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) reflected the ability of the protease to hydrolyse myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic proteins, in particular, myosin heavy chain, paramyosin, phosphorylase and creatine kinase-M type. Gastric cancer (GC) patients with metastasis had limited treatment options and dismal outcome. We have previously reported the aberrant expression of Zic family member 1 (Zic1) in GC. However, the functional roles and underlying mechanism of Zic1 in GC metastasis remain unknown. Here, we demonstrate that lower expression of Zic1 was correlated with more lymph node metastasis and poor outcome of GC patients. Ectopic expression of Zic1 suppressed both lung metastasis and peritoneal tumor dissemination of GC in mice. The metastatic suppressing ability of Zic1 was mediated by regulating the process of cell invasion, adhesion and epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). Mechanistically, Zic1 could downregulate Wnt targets including c‐Myc and Cyclin D1 by inhibiting LEF transcriptional activity in GC cells. Notably, Zic1 was inversely related to the expression of Cyclin D1 in GC tissues tested. In addition, Zic1 could physically interact with β‐catenin/transcription factor 4 (TCF4) and disrupt their complex formation, while not affecting β‐catenin nuclear localization. Collectively, our study indicated that Zic1 suppressed GC metastasis through attenuating Wnt/β‐catenin signaling and the EMT process. The effects of partially replacing NaCl with sodium substitutes (SS) on the lipid and protein oxidation and flavor development of Harbin dry sausage was investigated. There were three salt formulations, including a control (100% NaCl), NaCl partially substituted with KCl (SS1) (70% NaCl and 30% KCl), and NaCl partially substituted with KCl combined with other components (SS2) (70% NaCl, 20% KCl, 4% lysine, 1% alanine, 0.5% citric acid, 1% Ca-lactate and 3.5% maltodextrin). The levels of lipid and protein oxidation increased in all sausages during fermentation (P < 0.05). In addition, lower oxidation of lipids and proteins were found in the SS2 treatment (P < 0.05) due to the lower NaCl concentration. The SS, especially the SS2, promoted the formation of volatile compounds originated from carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism, β-lipid oxidation and esterification; however, this substitute inhibited the formation of volatile compounds originated from lipid autooxidation (P < 0.05). This study investigated the purification and biochemical characteristics of the protease produced by Pediococcus pentosaceus isolated from Harbin dry sausages. The optimized fermented conditions were as follows: fermentation time 36 h, initial pH 5 and fermentation temperature 30 °C. A 29.6 kDa extracellular protease was purified using ammonium sulphate deposition, ion exchange layer system and gel filtration. The protease produced by P. pentosaceus had a certain pH and thermal stability at pH 6 and 30 °C. The microbial protease activity could be inhibited by ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA). V max and K m of the protease were 43.9 mg/min and 8.3 mg/mL, respectively. The effect of partial replacement of NaCl by using sodium substitutes (SS) on the physical, microbial and sensory characteristics of Harbin dry sausage was investigated. There were three salt formulations, including control (100% NaCl), NaCl partly substituted by KCl (SS1) (70% NaCl and 30% KCl), and NaCl partly substituted by KCl combined with other components (SS2) (70% NaCl, 20% KCl, 3.5% maltodextrin, 4% L-Lys, 1% L-Ala, 0.5% citric acid and 1% Ca-lactate). After a 12-day fermentation, the higher moisture content and Aw and lower pH were found in the SS2 treatment, compared to the control and SS1 treatments (P <.05). A decreased microbial diversity during fermentation was found in all sausages, and Staphylococcus spp. and Lactobacillus spp. became the dominant genera. Additionally, the SS2 treatment showed a higher L *-value and lower hardness and chewiness values (P <.05). To explore a new algorithm and strategy for rhythm analysis during chest compressions (CCs), and to improve the efficiency of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by minimizing interruptions. The clinical data and ECG of patients with sudden cardiac arrest (CA) from three hospitals in China were collected with Philips MRx monitor/defibrillators. The length of each analyzed ECG segment was 23 s, the first 11.5 s was selected to contain CPR compressions, the next 5 s had no compressions, and the last 6.5 s had no requirement. Three experienced emergency doctors annotated the ECG segments without compression artifacts. A two-step analysis through CPR (ATC) algorithm was applied to the selected data. The first step was analysis during chest compressions. If a shockable rhythm was not detected, compression-free analysis followed. The results of the ATC algorithm were compared with the annotations by the physicians, to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the algorithm. In total 166 CA patients were included with 100 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients and 66 in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) patients. A total of 1578 ECG segments were analyzed, including 115 (7.3%) shockable rhythms, 1278 (81.0%) non-shockable rhythms, and 185 (11.7%) intermediate/unknown rhythms. The specificity of all non-shockable rhythms was 99.8% at the end of chest compressions, and 99.5% after analysis without compression artifact. 70.5% of ventricular fibrillation (VF) rhythms were detected by the end of chest compressions. After the CC-free analysis, 93.6% of VF was identified. The ATC algorithm achieved sensitivity of 93.6% and specificity of 99.5% after the two-step analysis, and 70.5% of the patients with shockable rhythms did not require CC-free analysis. Background: There are few thorough studies assessing predictors of severe encephalitis, despite the poor prognosis and high mortality associated with severe encephalitis. The study aims to evaluate the clinical predictors of mortality and poor outcomes at hospital discharge in patients with severe infectious encephalitis in intensive care units. Method: In two Chinese hospitals, a retrospective cohort study comprising 209 patients in intensive care units suffering from severe infectious encephalitis was carried out. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the factors predicting mortality in all patients and poor outcomes in all survivors with severe infectious encephalitis. Results: In our cohort of 209 patients with severe encephalitis, 22 patients died, yielding a mortality rate of 10.5%. Cerebrospinal fluid pressure ≥ 400mmH2O (OR = 7.43), abnormal imaging (OR = 3.51), abnormal electroencephalogram (OR = 7.14), and number of rescues (OR = 1.12) were significantly associated with an increased risk of mortality in severe infectious encephalitis patients. Among the 187 survivors, 122 (65.2%) had favorable outcomes, defined as the modified Rankine Scale (mRS) score (0 ~ 3), and 65(34.8%) had poor outcomes (mRS scores 4 ~ 5). Age (OR = 1.02), number of rescues (OR = 1.43), and tubercular infection (OR = 10.77) were independent factors associated with poor outcomes at discharge in all survivors with severe infectious encephalitis. Conclusions: Multiple clinical, radiologic, and electrophysiological variables are independent predictive indicators for mortality and poor outcomes in patients with severe encephalitis in intensive care units. To study two-phase flows occurring in the process of coaxially electrospinning core-shell composite nanofibers, a mathematic physical model was proposed with shear-thinning fluid properties, surface tension, and electric fields specially considered. Numerical results showed three flow patterns: slug, slug-annular transitional, and annular flows. According to a flow pattern model based on the Weber number, slug-annular transitional flows were predicted to occur when the Weber number was between 0.5 and 26, whereas the slug and annular flows were to be expected when the Weber number was less than 0.5 and greater than 26, respectively. Body forces (induced by electric fields) and surface tension forces had more explicit effects on the flow patterns than forces due to viscosity and permeability gradients on interfaces. Hybrid Mg2+/Li+ batteries (MLIBs) are a promising battery system that combines the advantages of fast lithium-ion kinetics and dendrite-free magnesium deposition. Layered molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2) has gained increasing interest due to larger layer spacing and weak van der Waals forces in MLIBs. However, poor intrinsic electronic conductivity hinders its practical application. Here, a highly conductive MoS 2 /MoO 2 /reduced graphene oxide (MoS 2 /MoO 2 /rGO) composite synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method is employed as a high-performance cathode material for MLIBs. The high electrical conductivity (7.5 ×10−3 S cm−1) and large specific surface area of MoS 2 /MoO 2 /rGO facilitate the rapid transport of interfacial electrons and provide abundant active sites for Mg2+/Li+ storage. The optimized MoS 2 /MoO 2 /rGO composite exhibits a high discharge capacity (297.3 mAh g−1) and excellent rate performance. Moreover, the composite electrode delivers ultra-long cycle life over 5000 cycles at 1000 mA g−1, with a capacity degradation rate of only 0.007 % per cycle. The effects of treatment by ultrasound (US), inoculation of Pediococcus acidilactici BP2 strain (BP), and their combination (US-BP) on the quality characteristics of beef jerky were investigated during fermentation for 6 days. Moisture contents and water activity were highest after the US and US-BP treatments (P < 0.05). These effects were attributed to the decreased moisture mobility in beef jerky during ultrasonication. Meanwhile, samples treated with US and US-BP displayed more broken muscle fibers and larger gaps and cavities between the adjacent muscle bundles, resulting in lower shear force values compared to the other samples (P < 0.05), which indicated that the US and US-BP treatments improved the tenderness of beef jerky. Moreover, treatment with BP promoted the flavor development of beef jerky. The US-BP treatment improved the sensory attributes of beef jerky. Based on the person-centered approach, we investigated the evolution of teachers' emotional labor profiles and examined how occupational stress and organizational support predicted changes in profile membership, and the difference in burnout among different profiles. Data were collected from 829 Chinese primary and secondary teachers in a two-wave longitudinal test over six months. Latent profile analysis identified four emotional labor profiles, while latent transition analysis found that the profiles exhibited a latent transition probability. Myocardial infarction (MI) is the most common event in cardiovascular disease. Carvedilol, a β-blocker with multiple pleiotropic actions, is widely used for the treatment cardiovascular diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms of carvedilol on alleviating MI are not fully understood. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the beneficial effects of carvedilol were associated with regulation of microRNA-1 (miR-1). It was demonstrated that carvedilol ameliorated impaired cardiac function and decreased infarct size in a rat model of MI induced by coronary artery occlusion. Similarly, carvedilol reversed the H2O2-induced decrease in cardiomyocyte viability in a dose-dependent manner. The in vivo and in vitro models demonstrated the downregulation of miR-1 following treatment with carvedilol. Overexpression of miR-1, a known pro-apoptotic miRNA, decreased cell viability and induced cell apoptosis. Transfection of miR-1 abolished the beneficial effects of carvedilol. The expression of heat shock protein 60 (HSP60), a direct target of miR-1, was identified to be decreased in MI and H2O2-induced apoptosis, which was associated with a decrease in Bcl-2 and an increase in Bax; expression was restored following treatment with carvedilol. It was concluded that carvedilol partially exhibited its beneficial effects by downregulating miR-1 and increasing HSP60 expression. miR-1 has become a member of the group of carvedilol-responsive miRNAs. Future studies are required to fully elucidate the potential overlapping or compensatory effects of known carvedilol-responsive miRNAs and their underlying mechanisms of action in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases. Background The functionality of lncRNA snaR has only been characterized in breast cancer and colon cancer. The aim of the current study is to explore the involvement of lncRNA snaR in ovarian carcinoma (OC). Materials and methods Expression of lncRNA snaR and GRB2-associated binding protein 2 (GAB2) in plasma of both patients with OC and healthy females was detected by qRT-PCR. Application value of plasma lncRNA snaR in the diagnosis of OC was evaluated by ROC analysis. Correlation between plasma lncRNA snaR and GAB2 was analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient. LncRNA snaR and GAB2 expression vectors as well as GAB2 siRNA were transfected into cells of human OC cell lines, and the effect on lncRNA snaR expression, GAB2 expression and cell proliferation was detected by qRT-PCR, western blot and CCK-8 assay. Results It was observed that plasma levels of lncRNA snaR and GAB2 were significantly higher in OC patients than those in healthy controls. In effect, high levels of plasma lncRNA snaR and GAB2 distinguished OC patients from healthy controls. Plasma lncRNA snaR and GAB2 were positively correlated in OC patients but not in healthy controls. LncRNA snaR overexpression promoted cancer cell proliferation and upregulated GAB2 expression. Conclusions GAB2 overexpression also promoted cancer cell proliferation but showed no significant effects on lncRNA snaR expression, while GAB2 siRNA silencing significantly attenuated the enhancing effects of lncRNA snaR overexpression on cancer cell proliferation. HSP60 has been proved to be closely related to atherosclerosis due to its antigenicity. To determine this antigenicity effect, the ApoE−/− mice were fed with western-type diet and HSP60 was administrated orally or subcutaneously (SC) for potential vaccine against atherosclerosis. Here, we observed the ApoE−/− mice with oral HSP60 administration group showed a significant reduction in plaque size at the aortic root; accompanied by increased MSDCs (CD11b + Gr1 + ) in peripheral blood and spleen which was mostly composed of M-MDSCs (CD11b + LY6G − LY6C high ), and increased plasma IL-10 and splenic Foxp3, Arg1, iNOS mRNA as well as decreased plasma IFN-γ and splenic T-bet mRNA compared to control group. Surprisingly, ApoE−/− mice with subcutaneous HSP60 administration group showed contrary results and their MDSCs were mostly composed of G-MDSCs (CD11b + LY6G + LY6C low ). As expected, both PBS-oral and PBS-SC groups showed no significant effects on both the immune response and atherosclerotic plaque formation. In contrast, subcutaneous administration of HSP60 causes the opposite response. Long-term datasets of water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, phosphate and nitrate from 1973 to 2013 were used to study interannual variations of these parameters along a transect (section PN) across the Kuroshio and shelf area in the East China Sea. Water temperature and salinity at depths of 0-200 m showed a low-high-low-high pattern over the 40-year period. Water temperature and salinity at 500 m were relatively high from 1985 to 1990 and decreased continuously thereafter. Salinity at 800 m was lowest around 1993 and increased thereafter. Nutrients were highest between 1980 and 1985. After 1985, nutrients at 500 m were increasing. The range of variation in nutrients was large before 1985 and the magnitude increased with greater depths. Apparent oxygen utilization at 500 m depth was decreasing before 1990 and started to increase after 1992. Significant changes after 1990 at 500 m depth may be due to the upward trend of the upper boundary of Kuroshio intermediate water. Interannual variation of water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, phosphate and nitrate along section PN has a significant correlation with the Pacific Decadal Oscillation index. Whether household air pollution is associated with dementia risk remains unknown. This study examined the associations between solid fuel use for cooking and heating (the main source of household air pollution) and dementia risk. This analysis included data on 11,352 participants (aged 45+ years) from the 2011 wave of China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, with follow-up to 2018. Dementia risk was assessed by a risk score using the Rotterdam Study Basic Dementia Risk Model (BDRM), which was subsequently standardized for analysis. Household fuel types of cooking and heating were categorized as solid (e.g., coal and crop residue) and clean (e.g., central heating and solar). Multivariable analyses were performed using generalized estimating equations. Moreover, we examined the joint associations of solid fuel use for cooking and heating with the BDRM score. After adjusting for potential confounders, we found an independent and significant association of solid (vs. clean) fuel use for cooking and heating with a higher BDRM score (e.g., β = 0.17 for solid fuel for cooking; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.15–0.19). Participants who used solid (vs. clean) fuel for both cooking and heating had the highest BDRM score (β = 0.32; 95% CI: 0.29–0.36). Subgroup analysis suggested stronger associations in participants living in rural areas. Solid fuel use for cooking and heating was independently associated with increased dementia risk in Chinese middle-aged and older adults, particularly among those living in rural areas. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a prevalent type of thoracic cancer with a poor prognosis and high mortality rate. However, the exact pathogenesis of this cancer is still not fully understood. One potential factor that can contribute to the development of lung adenocarcinoma is DNA methylation, which can cause changes in chromosome structure and potentially lead to the formation of tumors. The baculoviral IAP repeat containing the 5 (BIRC5) gene encodes the Survivin protein, which is a multifunctional gene involved in cell proliferation, migration, and invasion of tumor cells. This gene is elevated in various solid tumors, but its specific role and mechanism in lung adenocarcinoma are not well-known. To identify the potential biomarkers associated with lung adenocarcinoma, we screened the methylation-regulated differentially expressed genes (MeDEGs) of LUAD via bioinformatics analysis. Gene ontology (GO) process and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) were applied to investigate the biological function and pathway of MeDEGs. A protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was employed to explore the key module and screen hub genes. We screened out eight hub genes whose products are aberrantly expressed, and whose DNA methylation modification level is significantly changed in lung adenocarcinoma. BIRC5 is a bona fide marker which was remarkably up-regulated in tumor tissues. Flow cytometry analysis, lactate dehydrogenase release (LDH) assay and Micro-PET imaging were performed in A549 cells and a mouse xenograft tumor to explore the function of BIRC5 in cell death of lung adenocarcinoma. We found that BIRC5 was up-regulated and related to a high mortality rate in lung adenocarcinoma patients. Mechanically, the knockdown of BIRC5 inhibited the proliferation of A549 cells and induced pyroptosis via caspase3/GSDME signaling. Our findings have unraveled that BIRC5 holds promise as a novel biomarker and therapeutic target for lung adenocarcinoma. Melatonin has neuroprotective effects in many diseases, including neonatal hypoxic-ischaemic (HI) brain injury. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of melatonin both in vivo and in vitro and associated molecular mechanisms behind these effects. Postnatal day 7 male and female rat pups were subjected to unilateral HI, melatonin was injected intraperitoneally 1 h before HI and an additional six doses were administered at 24 h intervals. The pups were sacrificed at 24 h and 7 d after HI. Pre-treatment with melatonin significantly reduced brain damage at 7 d after HI, with 15 mg/kg melatonin achieving over 30% recovery in tissue loss compared to vehicle-treated animals. Autophagy and apoptotic cell death as indicated by autophagy associated proteins, cleaved caspase 3 and Tunel staining, was significantly inhibited after melatonin treatment in vivo as well as in PC12 cells. Melatonin treatment also significantly increased the GAP43 in the cortex. In conclusion, melatonin treatment reduced neonatal rat brain injury after HI, and this appeared to be related to inhibiting autophagy as well as reducing apoptotic cell death. A two-dimensional Eulerian-Eulerian two-fluid model is established to study the effects of pulsatile inlet air on an air-dense medium fluidized bed (ADMFB). The bed-volume expansion and dissipation rate are introduced to evaluate the overall fluidization and energy loss of the bed, respectively. The standard deviation and fast Fourier transform signal processing technique are also employed in the investigation of bed quality. The results show that significant flow phenomena occur around bubbles with both the greatest energy loss and large gradients of pressure and velocity. For inlet air without pulsation, the Reynolds number is the major dimensionless parameter influencing the bed flow. Both the bed-volume expansion and dissipation rate (dimensionless) linearly increase with the Reynolds number. As the inlet air flows faster and more kinetic energy is transferred into the bed, the uniformity of the bed decreases and relatively less energy is lost. For inlet air with pulsation, the Strouhal number is the major influential dimensionless parameter. The bed-volume expansion drops to nearly a constant as the Strouhal number increases. The non-linear effects of the Strouhal number on the dissipation rate of the bed are approximated through a logarithmic function. With an increase in pulsation frequency, the bed fluctuation decreases and more energy is lost. The pulsation amplitude should be small to form an ADMFB with uniformity and relatively low energy loss. In general, pulsation inhibits bed-volume expansion and greater energy loss is incurred. Long noncoding RNAs (lnc RNAs), a novel class of transcripts that have critical roles in carcinogenesis and progression, have emerged as important gene expression modulators. Recent evidence indicates that lnc RNA taurine-upregulated gene 1 ( TUG1) functions as an oncogene in numerous types of human cancers. However, its function in the development of cervical cancer remains unknown. The aim of this research was to investigate the clinical significance and biological functions of TUG1 in cervical cancer. TUG1 was found to be significantly upregulated in cervical cancer tissues and four cervical cancer cell lines by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction ( qRT- PCR). Elevated TUG1 expression was correlated with larger tumor size, advanced international federation of gynecology and obstetrics ( FIGO) stage, poor differentiation, and lymph node metastasis. Furthermore, knockdown of TUG1 suppressed cell proliferation with activation of apoptosis, in part by regulating the expression of Bcl-2 and caspase-3. Silencing of TUG1 inhibited cell migration and invasion via the progression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition ( EMT). Taken together, our findings indicate that TUG1 acts as an oncogene in cervical cancer and may represent a novel therapeutic target. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
