Abstract Background Female breast cancer stands as the prime type of cancer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), with a high incidence and mortality rates. This study assessed the burden of female breast cancer in KSA by analyzing and forecasting its incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Methods We retrieved data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) about female breast cancer from 1990 to 2021. Time-series analysis used the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model to forecast female breast cancer statistics from 2022 to 2026. Results From 1990 to 2021, KSA reported 77,513 cases of female breast cancer. The age groups with the highest number of cases are 45–49 years, followed by 40–44 years, 50–54 years, and 35–39 years. The analysis also showed fewer cases in the younger age groups, with the lowest number in the less than 20-year-old age group. From 1990 to 2021, KSA reported 19,440 deaths due to breast cancer, increasing from 201 cases in 1990 to 1,190 cases in 2021. The age-standardized incidence rate/100,000 of breast cancer increased from 15.4 (95% confidence interval (CI) 11.2–21.0) in 1990 to 46.0 (95%CI 34.5–61.5) in 2021. The forecasted incidence rate of female breast cancer will be 46.5 (95%CI 45.8–46.5) in 2022 and 49.6 (95%CI 46.8–52.3) in 2026. The age-standardized death rate per 100,000 Saudi women with breast cancer increased from 6.73 (95%CI 6.73–9.03) in 1990 to 9.77 (95%CI 7.63–13.00) in 2021. The forecasted female breast cancer death rate will slightly decrease to 9.67 (95%CI 9.49–9.84) in 2022 and to 9.26 (95%CI 8.37–10.15) in 2026. DALYs increased from 229.2 (95%CI 165.7–313.6) in 1990 to 346.1 (95%CI 253.9–467.2) in 2021. The forecasted DALYs of female breast cancer will slightly decrease to 343.3 (95%CI 337.2–349.5) in 2022 reaching 332.1 (95%CI 301.2–363.1) in 2026. Conclusions Female breast cancer is still a significant public health burden that challenges the health system in KSA, current policies and interventions should be fashioned to alleviate the disease morbidity and mortality and mitigate its future burden.

Thus, the aim of the present study was to develop and evaluate the content validity and acceptance of the multidomain intervention module to reverse cognitive frailty among older adults (iAGELESS).Patients and Methods: This study was conducted in two phases: Phase I included the development of the multidomain intervention module iAGELESS and evaluation of content validity, while Phase II consisted of evaluating the acceptance of the module among 18 healthcare and social care providers, 13 older adults with cognitive frailty, and 13 caregivers. Content validity index (CVI) was used to quantify the content validity. Respondents completed a questionnaire which consisted of information on sociodemographic, followed by module acceptance evaluation with respect to content, terminologies, and graphics. The data was then analyzed descriptively.Results: A multidomain intervention module, iAGELESS was developed. The module was found to have appropriate content validity (overall CVI = 0.83). All the caregivers, 92% of older adults with cognitive frailty and 83% of healthcare and social care providers were satisfied with the overall content of the module. More than 50% of those who accepted the module had satisfactory consensus on the ease of the terminologies, length of sentences, pictures, information, color, and font size included in the module.Conclusion: The iAGELESS module demonstrated good content validity and was well accepted, thus warranting its utilization in future studies to determine its effectiveness in reversing cognitive frailty among older adults.Keywords: aging, cognitive frailty, multidomain intervention module, older adults, reversal

This paper proposes a trend prediction analysis method based on the evolution of knowledge graph fusion for the analysis of price fluctuation trends with limited information and lacking historical data. Based on an actual business case, the article first establishes a knowledge graph and corresponding data model based on the price analysis and application scenarios in business decision-making and based on the collected data. Afterward, the evolution mechanism model and the corresponding theoretical basis are described. After that, the feasibility of the proposed method is proved theoretically and via simulation verification. This method does not require tags and historical data as necessary support, thereby reducing the data requirements of machine learning predictions, and can be used as a supplementary solution to complete trend analysis with less requirement on data curation. The method's stability and feasibility have been substantiated through experiments, showcasing distinct effects on the trend emanating from different interrelated knowledge graphs. Recognizing the potentially conflicting constraints between diverse correlations, we undertake a comprehensive evaluation of each map's influence. This evaluation is achieved through knowledge graph fusion processing, enabling a predictive assessment under the collective impact of various factors.

Abstract Frequent and variant infections are caused by the virtue of opportunistic fungi pathogens. Candidiasis, aspergillosis, and mucormycosis are pathogenic microorganisms that give rise to vast fungal diseases that alternate between moderate to fatal in severity. The use of fluconazole as an antifungal drug was limited due to the acquired resistance in some types of Candida and other fungal species. This study aims to consolidate fluconazole’s biological effectiveness against several pathogenic fungi. Six active monoterpenes (MTs) of carvacrol, linalool, geraniol, α-terpinene, citronellal, and nerolidol were selected and encapsulated in nanostructure lipid carrier (NLC) with (NLC-Flu-MTs) and/without (NLC-MTs) fluconazole in one nanoformulation to determine if they will act synergistically or not? The synthesized nanoformulation NLC-Flu-MTs and NLC-MTs exhibited very good particle size of 144.5 nm and 138.6 nm for size and zeta potential values of (− 23.5 mV) and (− 20.3 mV), respectively. Transmission electron microscope investigation confirmed that the synthesized NLCs have regular and spherical shape. The abundance and concentration of the six released monoterpenes were determined, as a novel approach, using GC–MS with very good results and validity. In-vitro antifungal screening was done before and after nano co-delivery against seven pathogenic, and aggressive fungi of Candida tropicalis, Candida krusei, Candida glabrata, Geotrichum Candidum, Candidaalbicans, Aspergillus Niger, and mucor circinelloides. Inhibition Zone diameter (IZD) and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) were measured. Nanoformulations NLC-Flu-MTs and NLC-MTs manifested potential and unique biological susceptibility against all the tested microorganisms with reduced (MIC) values, especially against Candida Tropicalis (MIC = 0.97 µg/ml) which represents 16-fold of the value shown by NLC-MTs (MIC = 15.6 µg/ml) and 64-fold of fluconazole free before nanoformulation (MIC = 62.5 µg/ml). The efficiency of nanomaterials, particularly NLC-Flu-MTs, has become evident in the diminishing value of MIC which affirmed the synergism between fluconazole and the other six monoterpenes.

Abstract Background Three Amino acid Loop Extension (TALE) belongs to the homeobox group of genes that are important constituents of plant systems. The TALE gene family is instrumental not only in growth and development but also plays an essential role in regulating plant response to environmental adversaries. Results In the present study, we isolated 21 CsTALE genes from the cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) genome database. Bioinformatics tools were put in place to understand the structural and functional components of the CsTALE gene family. The evolutionary analysis dissected them into seven subclades (KNOX-I, KNOX-II, and BELL-I to BELL-V). The cis-acting elements in the promoter region of CsTALE genes disclosed that they are key regulators of hormonal and stress-related processes. Additionally, the STRING database advocated the concerting role of CsTALE proteins with other key transcription factors potent in plant developmental biology. The CsmiR319 and CsmiR167a-3p targeting the CsTALE15 and CsTALE16, respectively, further assert the importance of the CsTALE gene family posttranscriptional-related processes. Tissue-specific gene expression unfolded the fundamental involvement of CsTALE genes as they were expressed throughout the developmental stages. Under waterlogging stress, the CsTALE17 expressed significantly higher values in WL, WL-NAA, and WL-ETH but not in WL-MeJA-treated samples. Conclusions The present study reveals the evolution and functions of the CsTALE gene family in cucumber. Our work will provide a platform that will help future researchers address the issue of waterlogging stress in the Yangtze River Delta.

Background/Introduction: Since the start of civilization, human culture has used plants to treat illnesses. Many plant samples have been adulterated intentionally or unintentionally during processing or even misidentified during collection. This study aims at authenticating and standardizing of Physalis angulata by carrying out Pharmacognostic evaluation, HPLC and GCMS analysis. Methodology: The dried leaves of Physalis angulata was extracted with 70% ethanol. Phytochemical screening (qualitative and quantitative screening) analysis was carried out on the ethanolic leave extract using standard method, while the chemical compounds were established with HPLC-DAD and GCMS and Pharmacognostic evaluation was carried out on the powdered leave. Results and discussion: Qualitative phytochemical analysis of the leave extract reveals the presence of flavonoids, terpenes, alkaloid, tannins and saponin while carbohydrate, glycosides and resins were absent. Quantitative phytochemical screening shows alkaloid present to be 2.4±0.4% and saponin 2±1.32%. HPLC analysis reveals the presence of quercetin, rutin, catechin and ferulic acid while GCMS reveals the presence of cyclohexene, Palmitic acid, 17-Octadecynoic acid, 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid and Phytol. Total Ash content is (15.23±0.43) %w/w with acid insoluble ash of (1.16 ±0.28) %w/w, water soluble ash of (8.13 ±0.32) %w/w, moisture content (5.67 ±0.14) %w/w, alcohol soluble extractive value of (5.76 ±0.40) %w/w and water-soluble extractive value of (10.96 ±0.35) %w/w. Chemomicroscopic evaluation indicate the presence of lignin, cellulose, tannins, starch, calcium oxalate, oils and protein. Microscopy, fluorescence and organoleptic analysis were also documented. Conclusion: From this study, the presence of valuable phytochemicals has been established from the plant, while HPLC and GCMS revealed the identities of these compounds. Thus, the physico chemical parameters established for Physalis angulata in this study falls within the range approved by WHO (1992) for crude plant and extract.

Abstract Background In Africa, the relationship between childhood nutritional status and malaria remains complex and difficult to interpret. Understanding it is important in the improvement of malaria control strategies. This study aimed to assess the influence of nutritional status on the occurrence of multiple malaria episodes in children aged 6 to 59 months between 2013 and 2017 living in the village of Dangassa, Mali. Methods A community-based longitudinal study was conducted using cross-sectional surveys (CSSs) at the beginning (June) and end (November) of the malaria transmission season associated with passive case detection (PCD) at the Dangassa Community Health Centre. Children with asymptomatic malaria infection during cross-sectional surveys were selected and their malaria episodes followed by PCD. Malaria indicators in person-months were estimated using an ordinal-logistic model repeated on subjects during follow-up periods. Results The incidence rate (IR) during the period of high transmission (June to October), for 1 episode and for 2 + episodes peaked in 2013 with 65 children (IR = 95.73 per 1000 person-months) and 24 cases (IR = 35.35 per 1000 person-months), respectively. As expected, the risk of multiple episodes occurring during the period of high transmission was 3.23 compared to the period of low transmission after adjusting for other model parameters (95% CI [2.45–4.26], p = 0.000). Children with anaemia were at high risk of having multiple episodes (OR = 1.6, 95% CI [1.12–2.30], p = 0.011). However, the risk of having 2 + episodes for anemic children was higher during the period of low transmission (RR = 1.67, 95% CI [1.15–2.42], p = 0.007) compared to the period of high transmission (RR = 1.58, 95% CI [1.09–2.29], p = 0.016). Abstract Background Buffalo spermatozoa have a distinct membrane structure that makes them more vulnerable to cryopreservation, resulting in lower-quality post-thawed sperm. This decreases the success rate of artificial insemination in buffaloes. Understanding and addressing these specific vulnerabilities are essential for improving reproductive techniques in buffalo populations. The properties of cryopreserved buffalo bull semen were examined in this study regarding the impact of adding autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to OptiXcell® or Tris egg yolk-based extenders. Ten buffalo bulls were used to collect semen. Each bull’s ejaculate was separated into two main equal amounts, each of which was then diluted with either OptiXcell® or Tris egg yolk-based extender, supplemented with various PRP concentrations (5%, 10%, and 15%), and the control (0%), before being cryopreserved according to established protocols. Following equilibration and thawing, the quality and functionality of the sperm were evaluated, along with the antioxidant enzyme activities (GSH and TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and in vivo fertilization rate of the thawed semen. Results All PRP concentrations in both extenders, particularly 10% PRP, improved the quality and functionality of the sperm in both equilibrated and frozen-thawed semen. A pot experiment was conducted at the soil and water laboratory of Federal University Gashua Nigeria, to assess the reaction and primary nutrients – NPK, and Organic Carbon (OC) status of three white grub-produced Vermicompost using different ingredients (Municipal Waste – MW, Typha Grass – TP, and Municipal Waste + Typha Grass – MWT0). Laid on a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), the number of live worms, worms' weight, Vermicompost weight, and worms' mortality percentage as production indices were recorded and statistically analyzed upon Vermicompost maturity. Matured Vermicompost Reaction (pH and EC) and Primary nutrients (NPK), and OC were determined in another laboratory upon taking the respective compost samples as Soil health Indices. The result of the analysis showed that MW has the highest Nitrogen (%) = 1.60, the highest available Phosphorus = 0.47 mgKg-1, and the highest Exchangeable Potassium = 720 mgKg-1, it also presented a mildly acidic reaction (pH=6.8), with the highest percentage of OC (2.80%) and the lowest basic salts EC = 0.35 dS/m. In terms of earlier determined live worm percentage, live worm weight, Vermicompost weight, and worm mortality rate, the highest findings are MW = 64.5 %, MW = 40 grams, MW = 301 grams, and TP = 66.9 % respectively. In conclusion, MW Vermicompost proves to be the best, taking into consideration its better indices. As the premier of its kind in the study area, among other recommendations, we encourage setting this study as a pilot, and the conduct of more studies on the efficiency of Vermicompost on soil health and crop production in the study area.

Background. The flipped classroom approach has been gaining increasing attention across various educational domains, including physical education. Recent research has underscored the necessity for innovative strategies to enhance student engagement in physical education, particularly in basketball instruction. Objectives. This study aimed to investigate the influence of the flipped classroom approach on student engagement in Basketball instruction within the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation program at the University level. Materials and methods. The research method involved an experimental design using the static group comparison approach, where 62 students enrolled in physical education were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received instruction through the flipped classroom approach, while the control group underwent conventional instruction, with the intervention lasting for seven weeks. A comprehensive engagement scale questionnaire was used as the research instrument. Data analysis techniques included descriptive analysis and independent samples t-test. Results. The research findings revealed significantly higher levels of engagement in the agentic, behavioral, emotional, and cognitive dimensions among students in the flipped classroom group compared to those in the conventional classroom group. This indicates that the flipped classroom approach has a considerable effect on student engagement in basketball instruction. Conclusions. The study’s results have confirmed the effectiveness of the innovative pedagogical strategy of the flipped classroom in fostering meaningful learning experiences and motivating students within the context of physical education.

Due to the radiation released by commonly used isotopes, many nuclear, medical, and industrial facilities require proper radiation shielding. In this work, distinct copper borate glasses intercalated with varied aluminum and vanadium oxide (Al2O3 and V2O5) content have been synthesized and used against radiation (gamma rays and fast/thermal neutrons). The different percents were as follows: [60% B2O3 + 35% CuO + (5-x)% Al2O3 + xV2O5], where x = 0, 1, and 2.5 wt.%, which was coded as BCu(5-x)Al:xV. The synthesized glass samples were characterized using Fourier transforms, infrared, and X-Raydiffraction analysis. Experimentally, the radiation shielding possessions of the samples were established using an HPGe detector at the gamma energy lines 0.356 MeV, 0.661 MeV, 1.173 MeV, and 1.332 MeV. Also, the prepared glasses were investigated theoretically using the Monte Carlo code (MCNP5) at photon energies of 0.015–15 MeV. Also, the fast and thermal neutron macroscopic effective removal cross-sections were calculated using MRCsC and JANIS-4.1 software, respectively. The prepared sample BCu2.5Al:2.5V, which has a vanadium and aluminum content of 2.5%, has the highest linear attenuation coefficient as well as the highest removal cross-section for fast, and thermal neutrons.

The importance of (probability) distributions in engineering science is undeniable. They are extensively used in this sector to carry out statistical studies and draw conclusions. In this article, we construct a new trigonometric distribution with support [0,1] called the truncated inverted arctan power (TIAP) distribution and demonstrate its use with engineering data. The corresponding probability density function is particularly flexible in the sense that it has various decreased right-skewness and unimodal forms. The associated hazard rate function shows that the TIAP distribution may adapt data with monotonic, U-shaped, and N-shaped failure rates. To reflect the interdependence of two random variables or sets of data, a bivariate variant of the TIAP distribution is also elaborated. All these distributional tools are then applied from a statistical perspective. In particular, the involved parameters are estimated using a maximum likelihood technique. Applications to engineering data indicate that the univariate and bivariate extensions for the TIAP distribution have a better fit compared to various current distributions.

Defining a probability model suitable for analyzing intricate and skewed real datasets holds significant importance in statistics. Here In this study, a novel class of models using the maximum of independent identical generalized Rayleigh random variables with the number of variables that have a power series class of distributions is proposed. This novel family of distributions contain several sub-models, including Poisson-generalized Rayleigh, geometric-generalized Rayleigh, binomial-generalized Rayleigh, and logarithmic-generalized Rayleigh models. The so obtained model can be unimodal and positively skewed, and it can be applied in modeling asymmetric data. We provide numerous distributional and statistical properties of this new family of distribution, notably, probability density, cumulative function, hazard rate function, k-moment, mean, variance, and quantile function. Different techniques consider the estimation of model parameters, likely maximum likelihood estimators, Expectation–Maximization (EM) and its Modified techniques, and extensive Monte Carlo (MC) simulation studies have been employed to see the efficiency of the suggested estimation techniques. At the end, three real data sets are analyzed for illustrative purposes. The results underscore the superior performance of the proposed Geom-GR model compared to its competitors, showcasing its effectiveness in accurately representing the analyzed datasets.

This article proposes a new way to increase the flexibility of a family of statistical distributions by adding two additional parameters. The newly proposed family is called the alpha–beta power transformation family of distributions. A specific model, the alpha–beta power exponential distribution, was thoroughly investigated. The hazard rates of the proposed distribution can be decreasing, bathtub-shaped, and unimodal. The derived structural features of the proposed model include explicit formulations for the quantiles, the moments, the moment-generating function, and the incomplete and conditional moments. In addition, estimates of maximum likelihood, least squares, weighted least squares, and minimum distance of Cramér von Mises, von Anderson–Darling, and right-tail Anderson–Darling are obtained for the unknown parameters. Two real data sets were examined to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed approach.

Short arc orbit determination for GEO satellites is useful when there are gaps or incomplete data due to limited time or other factors. Full cycle orbit determination requires continuous data over the entire orbit cycle, which may not always be available. This research assesses the accuracy of short arc orbit determination for GEO satellites for various time intervals ranging from 6-hour- to 42-hour intervals using two data collecting techniques: azimuth elevation range (AER) and range-to-range (RNG). Iterative Least-Squares Estimation, a numerically integrated method, is then used to determine the orbit, by either calculating new bias values or preexisting bias values. The results show that average root mean square error (RMSE) values are 0.792 km and 0.160 km for AER and RNG type observation data, respectively, using pre-existing bias values. On the other hand, using new bias calculation, the average RMSE values are 36.480 km and 6.254 km for AER and RNG. The findings indicate that the RNG method provides superior accuracy in determining the orbit for both satellites. The study recommends the use of pre-existing bias values over calculating new ones. Short arc orbit determination can provide a reasonable estimate of the satellite's orbit when a limited amount of data is available due to various reasons and can also be used to quickly assess and correct any deviations or errors in the satellite's orbit, improving overall accuracy and reliability.

The priority technological direction of thermal protection of hot section components, basically turbine parts is the development of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) in order to improve the operational performance of aero gas turbine engines (GTEs). The application of this coating, which can lower the surface temperature of the substrate material and have high oxidation resistance, was of great importance. The focus of this paper is on choosing TBCs with lower conductivity and longer life than coatings used in industry today and on the study of the effect of TBCs with low thermal conductivity on the longevity and performance of the GTE. Although this type of coating consists of multilayers, here only an overview of the coating materials used in their top layer is given. This review is based essentially on the thermal and mechanical properties of these materials. Although there are many oxide materials that meet the specified requirements and are considered suitable for use as a ceramic top layer in the TBC system, the most promising one was selected. Compared to traditional TBC systems, it is a pyrochlore type oxide with very low thermal conductivity, high thermal stability, and some other advantages - Lanthanum zirconate (La2Zr2O7, LZ).

Abstract Background Cerebral microbleeds may be responsible for bleeding and poor functional outcome following thrombolysis of acute ischemic stroke. We tried to assess the association between cerebral microbleeds, hemorrhagic complication and functional outcome following intravenous thrombolysis in Egyptian acute ischemic stroke patients. We evaluated 66 acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis for cerebral microbleeds using T2* weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging Gradient echo. Distribution, number, and predictors of microbleeds were assessed. The effect of microbleeds presence and burden on development of hemorrhage after thrombolysis and 90 days functional outcome was evaluated. Results Out of 66 stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis, 33 patients had microbleeds. Multivariate analysis shows that hypertension, diabetes mellitus, atrial fibrillation, smoking and leukoaraiosis were independently associated with microbleeds. Post-thrombolysis symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage occurred in 12/66 (18.1%). Multivariate analysis shows that high burden microbleeds (≥ 10), leukoaraiosis, stroke severity, delayed thrombolysis were independently associated with intracerebral hemorrhage. Abstract An experimental study on reinforced concrete one-way slabs strengthened by various methods and materials is introduced in this paper. Innovative anchorage procedures are presented and evaluated to prevent the strengthening elements with FRP system from de-bonding at the initial stages. Externally bonded embedded in concrete cover (EBECC) strengthening technology was proposed to save the fiber strips from being subjected to heat, degradation, and sabotage. Nine RC one-way slabs, including a control slab and eight strengthened slabs, were cast. One RC slab was strengthened using externally bonded embedded in concrete cover (EBECC), whereas the other tested RC slabs were strengthened using either externally bonded (EB) or near-surface mounted (NSM) procedures. The following test variables are used in this study: the proposed anchors, the area of steel, the kind of material utilized in NSM rods (carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP), and steel), and the strengthening scheme. The ultimate and initial cracking loads, load–deformation response, cracking patterns, and failure behavior were recorded and discussed. Additionally, a comparison of the stiffness, ductility, and energy absorption of the examined slabs was reported. The strengthened slabs by various techniques showed a boost in flexural strength that varied from 67 to 107% compared to the control slab. In addition, RC slabs strengthened by NSM-CFRP bars showed a maximum flexural capacity when compared with slabs strengthened by GFRP and steel bars. Also, the results supported the superiority of a novel end anchorage. The ABAQUS program was employed to conduct a finite element analysis (FEA) employing 3-D geometries to compare and assess the numerical performance of the identical slabs under similar test settings. The results showed good agreement between the experimental and numerical findings.

Abstract Background Smart phone technology including different instant messaging applications like, WhatsApp, can be used for the development of radiological skills, reporting, and performance. To determine the utility, attitude, and outcome of WhatsApp for augmenting education in FCPS radiology residency program. To assess the opinion of radiology residents regarding WhatsApp as a tool to enhance postgraduate training. Methodology A mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) was conducted at Dow Institute of Radiology, Karachi, Pakistan. All FCPS Radiology residents were given a radiological case by principal investigator followed by residents’ response in 24 h. Key findings were shared by the mentor. Before and after the intervention of WhatsApp, all residents were evaluated with written and radiological imaging reporting exam. For quantitative analysis, a closed ended questionnaire was used containing information about total number of messages, images, webpage links shared, level of contribution (active/non-active), and utility (contribution in education related topic only). A feedback form with Likert scale was also got filled by all residents. For qualitative research, semi structured interviews (SSIs) were conducted. Results Median number of total images shared were 293 (IQR 1002 images), messages shared 110 (IQR), webpages shared were 54 webpages (61 webpages) and total contents shared by participants was 243 (544 contents). Active contributors showed better performance in utility, competency of contents and attitude towards using social media as a medium for learning. Comparison of written and OSCE results showed better performance after the intervention. Feedback form with Likert scale revealed that students responded positively regarding the shared learning content. Thematic analysis showed 52 codes and 16 themes. Conclusion In this research we have observed that WhatsApp is highly efficient and productive academic tool which can amplify postgraduate radiology education. Student’s narrative reflects that residents have found the missing link which can take them to radiological professional excellence through targeted high-profile learning outside lecture hall in time and place convenient motivational environment. Once it will be blended with existing teaching strategy, it can prove to be a game changer.

Abstract Introduction Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global public health concern and irrational use of antibiotics in hospitals is a key driver of AMR. Even though it is not preventable, antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programmes will reduce or slow it down. Research evidence from Sierra Leone has demonstrated the high use of antibiotics in hospitals, but no study has assessed hospital AMS programmes and antibiotic use specifically among children. We conducted the first-ever study to assess the AMS programmes and antibiotics use in two tertiary hospitals in Sierra Leone. Methods This was a hospital-based cross-sectional survey using the World Health Organization (WHO) point prevalence survey (PPS) methodology. Data was collected from the medical records of eligible patients at the Ola During Children’s Hospital (ODCH) and Makeni Regional Hospital (MRH) using the WHO PPS hospital questionnaire; and required data collection forms. The prescribed antibiotics were classified according to the WHO Access, Watch, and Reserve (AWaRe) classification. Ethics approval was obtained from the Sierra Leone Ethics and Scientific Review Committee. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS version 22. Results Both ODCH and MRH did not have the required AMS infrastructure; policy and practice; and monitoring and feedback mechanisms to ensure rational antibiotic prescribing. Of the 150 patients included in the survey, 116 (77.3%) were admitted at ODCH and 34 (22.7%) to MRH, 77 (51.3%) were males and 73 (48.7%) were females. The mean age was 2 years (SD=3.5). The overall prevalence of antibiotic use was 84.7% (95% CI: 77.9% – 90.0%) and 77 (83.8%) of the children aged less than one year received an antibiotic. The proportion of males that received antibiotics was higher than that of females. Most (58, 47.2 %) of the patients received at least two antibiotics. The top five antibiotics prescribed were gentamycin (100, 27.4%), ceftriaxone (76, 20.3%), ampicillin (71, 19.5%), metronidazole (44, 12.1%), and cefotaxime (31, 8.5%). Community-acquired infections were the primary diagnoses for antibiotic prescription. Conclusion The non-existence of AMS programmes might have contributed to the high use of antibiotics at ODCH and MRH. This has the potential to increase antibiotic selection pressure and in turn the AMR burden in the country. There is need to establish hospital AMS teams and train health workers on the rational use of antibiotics.

Abstract Cryptococcosis is an opportunistic systemic mycosis caused by Cryptococcus neoformans and C. gattii species complexes and is of increasing global importance. Maintaining continued surveillance of the antifungal susceptibility of environmental C. neoformans and C. gattii isolates is desirable for better managing cryptococcosis by identifying resistant isolates and revealing the emergence of intrinsically resistant species. Relevant research data from Egypt are scarce. Thus, this study aimed to report the genetic diversity of C. neoformans and C. gattii species complexes originating from different environmental sources in Egypt, antifungal susceptibility profiles, antifungal combinations, and correlations of susceptibility with genotypes. A total of 400 environmental samples were collected, 220 from birds and 180 from trees. Cryptococcus spp. were found in 58 (14.5%) of the samples, 44 (75.9%) of the isolates were recovered from birds and 14 (24.1%) from trees. These isolates were genotyped using M13 polymerase chain reaction-fingerprinting and URA5 gene restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Of the 31 C. neoformans isolates, 24 (77.4%), 6 (19.4%) and one (4.4%) belonged to VNI, VNII, and VNIII genotypes, respectively. The 27 C. gattii isolates belonged to VGI (70.4%), VGII (18.5%), and VGIII (11.1%) genotypes. Non-wild type C. neoformans and C. gattii isolates that may have acquired resistance to azoles, amphotericin B (AMB), and terbinafine (TRB) were observed. C. gattii VGIII was less susceptible to fluconazole (FCZ) and itraconazole (ITZ) than VGI and VGII. The intensive adoption of ChatGPT by university students for learning has encouraged many scholars to test the variables that impact on their use of such AI in their learning. This study adds to the growing body of studies, especially in relation to the moderating role of students’ gender and their study discipline in their acceptance and usage of ChatGPT in their learning process. This study expanded the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) by integrating gender as well as study disciplines as moderators. The study collected responses from students in Saudi universities with different study disciplines and of different genders. The results of a structural model using Smart PLS showed a significant moderating effect of gender on the relationship between performance expectancy and ChatGPT usage. The results confirmed that the impact of performance expectancy in fostering ChatGPT usage was stronger in male than in female students. Moreover, social influence was shown to significantly affect males more than females in relation to ChatGPT usage. In addition, the findings showed that study discipline significantly moderates the link between social influence and ChatGPT usage. In the same vein, social influence significantly influences ChatGPT use in social sciences more than in applied sciences. Hence, the various implications of the study were discussed.

Abstract Background Concomitant knee injuries, such as meniscal tears, are observed in up to 80% of cases and can have a detrimental impact on outcomes following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Over recent decades, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of preserving meniscal tissue. Consequently, the prevalence of meniscal-preserving procedures has been on the rise. Purpose The objective of this study was to examine the prevalence of concurrent meniscal procedures, assess the success rate, and identify factors associated with the failure of meniscal repair in patients undergoing ACLR. Methods All patients who underwent ACLR due to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury between January 2015 and December 2022 were extracted from the Republic of Türkiye National health system using operation-specific procedure codes. Patients with multiple ligament injuries, revision ACL patients, and patients with missing data were excluded from the study. The treatment methods were grouped into the subsets of meniscectomy, meniscal repair, transplantation, and meniscectomy + repair. The distribution of ACLR and meniscus treatment methods according to years, age and sex groups, hospital characteristics, and geographical regions was examined. A secondary analysis was performed to assess the effect of patient demographics and hospital healthcare level on revision meniscal procedures in the ACLR + concomitant meniscal repair group. Results A total of 91,700 patients who underwent ACLR between 2015 and 2022 were included in the study. A concomitant meniscal procedure was noted in 19,951(21.8%) patients (16,130 repair,3543 meniscectomy). Abstract The fibrous wastes generated from the mills of textile production can be recycled and converted into high add-values products to be implemented in several applications. The current study aimed to employ commercial free cellulase enzyme to partially hydrolyze (activate) the polyester cotton blended (PET/C) fibrous wastes by creation functional groups such as OH and COOH on their surfaces. The activated fibrous wastes were then modified by coating with ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) biosynthesized by actinobacterial cultures free supernatant. The isolate was identified as Streptomyces pseudogriseolus with accession number of OR574241. The conditions that influence the actino-synthesis of ZnO-NPs were optimized and the product was characterized using spectroscopic vision, FTIR, XRD, TEM and SEM. The characteristic ZnO peaks were obviously observed by EDX analysis with 0.38 and 0.75% (wt%), respectively. TEM analyses proved the nanoscale of ZnO-NPs (5–15 nm) which was followed by cytotoxic evaluation for the produced NPs. Fortunately, the tested actino-ZnO-NPs didn’t have any cytotoxicity against human normal fibroblast cell line (BJ1), which means that the product can be safely used in a direct-contact with human skin. The treated PET/C blended waste fabrics coated with ZnO-NPs showed high antimicrobial activity and ultraviolet protection values after functionalization by cellulase. EDX analysis demonstrates the presence of Zn peaks on the coated fabrics compared with their absence in blank and control samples, while SEM images showed the formation of a thin layer of ZnO-NPs on the fabric surface. The obtained smart textile can be applied several needed sectors.

Abstract Background 7 T cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies may enable higher precision in clinical metrics like cardiac function, ventricular mass, and more. Higher precision may allow early detection of functional impairment and early evaluation of treatment responses in clinical practice and pre-clinical studies. Methods: Seven female German Landrace pigs were scanned prior to and at three time points (3–4 days, 7–10 days, and ~60 days) post myocardial infarction using a whole body 7 T system and three radiofrequency (RF) coils developed and built in-house to accompany animal growth. Results: The combination of dedicated RF hardware and 7 T MRI enables a longitudinal study in a pig model of acute and chronic infarction, providing consistent blood tissue contrast and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in measurements of cardiac function, as well as low coefficients of variation (CoV) for ejection fraction (CoVintra-observer: 2%, CoVinter-observer: 3.8%) and infarct size (CoVintra-observer: 8.4%, CoVinter-observer: 3.8%), despite drastic animal growth. Conclusions: Best results are achieved via manual segmentation. We define state-of-the-art procedures for large animal studies at 7 T.

Abstract Background Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive and devastating muscle disease, resulting from the absence of dystrophin. This leads to cell membrane instability, susceptibility to contraction-induced muscle damage, subsequent muscle degeneration, and eventually disability and early death of patients. Currently, there is no cure for DMD. Our recent studies identified that lipin1 plays a critical role in maintaining myofiber stability and integrity. However, lipin1 gene expression levels are dramatically reduced in the skeletal muscles of DMD patients and mdx mice. Methods To identify whether increased lipin1 expression could prevent dystrophic pathology, we employed unique muscle-specific mdx:lipin1 transgenic (mdx:lipin1Tg/0) mice in which lipin1 was restored in the dystrophic muscle of mdx mice, intramuscular gene delivery, as well as cell culture system. Results We found that increased lipin1 expression suppressed muscle degeneration and inflammation, reduced fibrosis, strengthened membrane integrity, and resulted in improved muscle contractile and lengthening force, and muscle performance in mdx:lipin1Tg/0 compared to mdx mice. To confirm the role of lipin1 in dystrophic muscle, we then administered AAV1-lipin1 via intramuscular injection in mdx mice. Consistently, lipin1 restoration inhibited myofiber necroptosis and lessened muscle degeneration. Using a cell culture system, we further found that differentiated primary mdx myoblasts had elevated expression levels of necroptotic markers and medium creatine kinase (CK), which could be a result of sarcolemmal damage. Most importantly, increased lipin1 expression levels in differentiated myoblasts from mdx:lipin1Tg/0 mice substantially inhibited the elevation of necroptotic markers and medium CK levels. Conclusions Overall, our data suggest that lipin1 is a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of dystrophic muscles.

Thus, this study evaluated the effectiveness of a disaster simulation training program for undergraduate medical students in Saudi Arabia.Methods: A disaster management simulation activity was conducted for 32 medical students. The students attended a 30-minute lecture about mass casualty incidents (MCIs) and completed a pre-simulation survey. They were then randomly assigned to one of three groups (performer, actor, observer) and asked to apply their skills to triage patients after a Level C MCI. A debriefing session was conducted using the plus/delta debriefing method. Then, the students completed a post-simulation survey.Results: The results showed that after the simulation training the students’ self-confidence in their ability to respond to a disaster increased from 40.7% to 59.4% (p value < 0.01), to utilize incident command structure increased from 37.9% to 62.5% (p value < 0.01), to demonstrate START triage for victims of a disaster increased from 28.2% to 65.7% (p value < 0.01), and to apply safe search and rescue techniques increased from 40.7% to 59.4% (p value < 0.01). The students’ self-confidence in their ability to perform basic first aid skills also increased after the simulation.Conclusion: The study findings suggest that disaster management simulation training can be an effective way to increase medical students’ self-confidence and preparedness for disaster response.Keywords: disaster, simulation, undergraduate training

Abstract Artificial intelligence in the workplace is becoming increasingly common. These tools are sometimes used to aid users in performing their task, for example, when an artificial intelligence tool assists a radiologist in their search for abnormalities in radiographic images. The use of artificial intelligence brings a wealth of benefits, such as increasing the efficiency and efficacy of performance. However, little research has been conducted to determine how the use of artificial intelligence assistants might affect the user’s cognitive skills. In this theoretical perspective, we discuss how artificial intelligence assistants might accelerate skill decay among experts and hinder skill acquisition among learners. Further, we discuss how AI assistants might also prevent experts and learners from recognizing these deleterious effects. We then discuss the types of questions: use-inspired basic cognitive researchers, applied researchers, and computer science researchers should seek to answer. We conclude that multidisciplinary research from use-inspired basic cognitive research, domain-specific applied research, and technical research (e.g., human factors research, computer science research) is needed to (a) understand these potential consequences, (b) design artificial intelligence systems to mitigate these impacts, and (c) develop training and use protocols to prevent negative impacts on users’ cognitive skills. Only by answering these questions from multidisciplinary perspectives can we harness the benefits of artificial intelligence in the workplace while preventing negative impacts on users’ cognitive skills.

Abstract Large intelligent surfaces arise as an emerging technology and critical building block for sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks. Reconfigurable holographic surfaces (RHSs) have been attracting significant attention recently as active antenna arrays with the capability of forming narrow beams at low cost and complexity. This paper introduces the directional modulation (DM) concept for RHS, where a large number of elements are exploited to control not only the signal’s power at the receiver but also its phase. Thus, a novel DM algorithm is proposed for RHS enables modulating a carrier wave to transmit information toward specific directions while broadcasting arbitrary signals toward other directions. Error vector magnitude results are reported for multiple users, where the directions of two users with respect to the RHS are varied. Mutual information result is also provided for 6 users to demonstrate the application of RHS for the physical layer security. Results are highly promising for future low-cost and secure spatially multiplexed communications.

Abstract Background Patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have decreased bone health. We aimed to investigate serum levels of bone turnover markers (BTMs) (markers of bone formation and bone resorption) and bone mineral density (BMD) at three sites (lumber, neck femur, and total femur) in middle-aged men with type 2 diabetes and to analyze the relationship between them. Also to evaluate serum osteoglycin as a novel marker and its relation to BTMs, BMD, and diabetic status. Methods We recruited seventy-eight patients with T2DM and thirteen non-diabetic, male volunteers as a control group. BMD was measured using a DEXA scan. BTMs (carboxy-terminal crosslinking telopeptide of type 1 collagen [CTX] and procollagen type 1 N propeptide [P1NP]), osteoglycin, PTH, and vitamin D were estimated. Data was compared among subjects and statistical analysis was performed. Results Most of the patients were having normal BMD with no significant difference between patients and the controls. BTMs and osteoglycin were significantly higher and vitamin D was significantly lower in the diabetic patients. Serum osteoglycin was positively correlated with DEXA Neck Femur (r = 0.233; p-value

Abstract Background The ongoing global crisis of Higher Education (HE) institutions during the post-COVID-19 pandemic period has increased the likelihood of enduring psychological stressors for staff. This study aimed to identify factors associated with job insecurity, burnout, psychological distress and coping amongst staff working at HE institutions globally. Methods An anonymous cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023 with staff at HE institutions across 16 countries. Job insecurity was measured using the Job Insecurity Scale (JIS), burnout using the Perceived Burnout measure question, psychological distress using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10), and coping using the Brief Resilient Coping Scale. Multivariable logistic regression with a stepwise variable selection method was used to identify associations. Results A total of 2,353 staff participated; the mean age (± SD) was 43(± 10) years and 61% were females. Most staff (85%) did not feel job insecurity, one-third (29%) perceived burnout in their jobs, more than two-thirds (73%) experienced moderate to very high levels of psychological distress, and more than half (58%) exhibited medium to high resilient coping. Perceived job insecurity was associated with staff working part-time [Adjusted Odds Ratio 1.53 (95% Confidence Intervals 1.15–2.02)], having an academic appointment [2.45 (1.78–3.27)], having multiple co-morbidities [1.86 (1.41–2.48)], perceived burnout [1.99 (1.54–2.56)] and moderate to very high level of psychological distress [1.68 (1.18–2.39)]. Perceived burnout was associated with being female [1.35 (1.12–1.63)], having multiple co-morbidities [1.53 (1.20–1.97)], perceived job insecurity [1.99 (1.55–2.57)], and moderate to very high levels of psychological distress [3.23 (2.42–4.30)]. Staff with multiple co-morbidities [1.46 (1.11–1.92)], mental health issues [2.73 (1.79–4.15)], perceived job insecurity [1.61 (1.13–2.30)], and perceived burnout [3.22 (2.41–4.31)] were associated with moderate to very high levels of psychological distress. Staff who perceived their mental health as good to excellent [3.36 (2.69–4.19)] were more likely to have medium to high resilient coping. Conclusions Factors identified in this study should be considered in reviewing and updating current support strategies for staff at HE institutions across all countries to reduce stress and burnout and improve wellbeing.

Abstract Objectives In the interpretation of panoramic radiographs (PRs), the identification and numbering of teeth is an important part of the correct diagnosis. This study evaluates the effectiveness of YOLO-v5 in the automatic detection, segmentation, and numbering of deciduous and permanent teeth in mixed dentition pediatric patients based on PRs. Methods A total of 3854 mixed pediatric patients PRs were labelled for deciduous and permanent teeth using the CranioCatch labeling program. The dataset was divided into three subsets: training (n = 3093, 80% of the total), validation (n = 387, 10% of the total) and test (n = 385, 10% of the total). An artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm using YOLO-v5 models were developed. Results The sensitivity, precision, F-1 score, and mean average precision-0.5 (mAP-0.5) values were 0.99, 0.99, 0.99, and 0.98 respectively, to teeth detection. The sensitivity, precision, F-1 score, and mAP-0.5 values were 0.98, 0.98, 0.98, and 0.98, respectively, to teeth segmentation. Conclusions YOLO-v5 based models can have the potential to detect and enable the accurate segmentation of deciduous and permanent teeth using PRs of pediatric patients with mixed dentition.

This study presents a retrospective epidemiological analysis of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in ruminants in Palestine from 2006 to 2023. Data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the Annual Agricultural Census, and reports from the World Organization for Animal Health indicated the endemic nature of FMD in Palestine throughout the study period. The findings unveil FMD's consistent presence, reporting outbreaks every year. The comprehensive analysis encompasses 202 outbreaks, involving 5635 cases and 84 deaths, underscoring the disease's substantial impact. The average morbidity, mortality, and case fatality rates were 17.0, 2.2 and 1.49%, respectively. Serotypes O, A, Asia 1, and SAT 2 were identified, each exerting varying effects on morbidity, mortality, and susceptible livestock. Annual trends displayed unpredictable fluctuations in outbreaks, emphasizing the erratic nature of FMD occurrences. Vaccination efforts exhibited fluctuating coverage levels, hinting at potential shifts in strategies or challenges in maintaining consistent programs. Concerningly, recent years witnessed a decline in vaccination, signaling a need for sustained vigilance and strengthened vaccination initiatives to manage FMD's impact on susceptible animal populations effectively. To control disease spread, the study advocates for improved data recording, heightened owner awareness, increased FMD vaccine utilization, and the implementation of a systematic disease monitoring and serotyping program.

Abstract This study aims to analyze the fake posts circulated on Turkish social media during the Russia–Ukraine war. With advancing technology, social media platforms have a profound impact on the way we perceive and interpret events and make us question the accuracy of information generated about international events such as wars. While the Russia–Ukraine war constitutes an important turning point in international relations, the reflection of these events on social media is also seen in fake posts. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to identify the common themes of fake social media posts and to reveal the general context of these posts on social media. In addition, the study aims to analyze the fake content circulating on Turkish social media and to reveal the emerging polarized discourses through the identified themes. The research revolves around five main themes that feed polarization: war reporting, ideological misrepresentation, humor, hate speech, and conspiracy theories. The findings show that fake content is particularly concentrated around ideological polarization and antagonisms. It was also found that misinformation and decontextualized humor blurred the true context of the war and that fake content combined with hate speech and conspiracy theories distorted the context of the war.

Abstract This study aims to investigate the factors effective in predicting the persistence of reflux after the first subureteric transurethral injection (STING) of dextranomer/hyaluronic acid copolymer in pediatric patients with vesicoureteral reflux. Abstract Background Senescence is accompanied by a progressive decrease in male reproductive performance, mainly due to oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a potent antioxidant, that diffuses freely in aqueous and lipid phases, possessing anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties. This study aimed to examine the effects of supplemental dietary ALA on testicular hemodynamics (TH), circulating hormones, and semen quality in aged goats. Twelve Baladi bucks were divided into two groups (n = 6 each); the first fed a basic ration and served as a control group (CON), while the second received the basic ration supplemented with 600 mg ALA/ kg daily for consecutive eight weeks (ALA). Results There were improvements in testicular blood flow in the ALA group evidenced by a lower resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI) concurrent with higher pampiniform-colored areas/pixel (W3-W6). There were increases in testicular volume and decreases in echogenicity (W3-W5; ALA vs. CON). Compared to the CON, ALA-bucks had higher serum concentrations of testosterone, estradiol, and nitric oxide (W3-W5). There were enhancements in semen traits (progressive motility, viability, morphology, and concentration, alanine aminotransferase enzyme) and oxidative biomarkers (catalase, total antioxidant capacity, and malondialdehyde). Conclusions ALA dietary supplementation (600 mg/kg diet) improved aged bucks’ reproductive performance by enhancing the testicular volume, testicular hemodynamics, sex steroids, and semen quality.

Abstract Background Wound healing represents a complex clinical challenge, necessitating the selection of appropriate wound dressings to facilitate an efficient healing process. This study aims to explore an effective approach to enhance wound healing by investigating the therapeutic potential of a nanocellulose-based anthraquinone derived from marine fungi. Forty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups, including a control group and various four treatment groups. The wound healing process was assessed by measuring the wound area at different time points. Results The results showed promising outcomes in terms of wound healing progression. The group treated with anthraquinone and nanocellulose demonstrated the most favorable results, with normal epidermal architecture, marked hyperkeratosis, and minimal dermal edema. This study provides comprehensive evidence supporting the efficacy of this novel alternative therapy through histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses conducted on a rat model. Conclusion By addressing the limitations associated with conventional wound dressings, our research contributes to the development of innovative strategies for optimizing wound healing outcomes. The findings presented herein underscore the potential of nanocellulose-based anthraquinone as a promising therapeutic option for promoting skin wound healing. Further investigations are warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and establish the clinical viability of this alternative therapy.

Abstract Background Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become an important health issue in adolescents. Although several parameters and indices have been investigated for the evaluation of NAFLD in adults, these indices are limited in adolescents. In this study, body mass index, waist circumference, triponderal mass index, HbA1c, homeostatic model assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein (Tg/HDL), the lipid accumulation product (LAP) index, the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the aminotransferase (AT) index were examined together, and their diagnostic values in the clinical treatment of NAFLD were compared. Materials and methods Seventynine adolescents (10–19 years old) with obesity who were admitted to a pediatric clinic between January and August 2022 and who were diagnosed with exogenous obesity without any comorbidities were included in the study. The presence of NAFLD was evaluated by liver magnetic resonance imaging. The laboratory findings were obtained retrospectively from system records. Parameters were compared between the NAFLD (+) and NAFLD (-) groups. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the most effective factors for NAFLD treatment. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed with significant indices. Sex, HOMA-IR, TyG and AT indices were evaluated together with multivariate analysis to design a diagnostic scale. Results HbA1c, HOMA-IR, AT indices and TyG indices were greater in the NAFLD (+) group (P = 0.012; P = 0.001; P = 0.012; P = 0.002, respectively). There was a positive correlation between liver fat percentage and HOMA-IR, the TyG index, the AT index, and Tg/HDL. According to the regression analysis, male sex and elevated HOMA-IR were determined to be significant risk factors for the presence of NAFLD. A probability scale with 4 parameters [sex, HOMA-IR, the TyG index, and alanine aminotransferase (ALT)] was designed with 82.5% specificity and 80% sensitivity. Conclusion Evaluation of the HOMA-IR and TyG indices, especially in high-risk patients, will support the diagnosis of NAFLD via ultrasonography. A probability scale with ALT, HOMA-IR, TyG, and sex data with a diagnostic accuracy of 80% may aid in the diagnosis of NAFLD in adolescents with obesity.

Abstract Developing special textiles (for patients in hospitals for example) properties, special antimicrobial and anticancer, was the main objective of the current work. The developed textiles were produced after dyeing by the novel formula of natural (non-environmental toxic) pigments (melanin amended by microbial-AgNPs). Streptomyces torulosus isolate OSh10 with accession number KX753680.1 was selected as a superior producer for brown natural pigment. By optimization processes, some different pigment colors were observed after growing the tested strain on the 3 media. Dextrose and malt extract enhanced the bacteria to produce a reddish-black color. However, glycerol as the main carbon source and NaNO3 and asparagine as a nitrogen source were noted as the best for the production of brown pigment. In another case, starch as a polysaccharide was the best carbon for the production of deep green pigment. Peptone and NaNO3 are the best nitrogen sources for the production of deep green pigment. Microbial-AgNPs were produced by Fusarium oxysporum with a size of 7–21 nm, and the shape was spherical. These nanoparticles were used to produce pigments-nanocomposite to improve their promising properties. The antimicrobial of nanoparticles and textiles dyeing by nanocomposites was recorded against multidrug-resistant pathogens. The new nanocomposite improved pigments' dyeing action and textile properties. The produced textiles had anticancer activity against skin cancer cells with non-cytotoxicity detectable action against normal skin cells. The obtained results indicate to application of these textiles in hospital patients’ clothes.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a, common disorder that has been associated with impairments in cognitive functions. This research is a retrospective case-control study aimed at establishing a clear relationship between cognitive flexibility and diabetes among Jordanians, considering demographic, anthropometric, and therapeutic variables.Patients and Methods: The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST)-64 item and the Trail Making Test (TMT) assessed cognitive flexibility in 268 people with diabetes and healthy control. Demographic, therapeutic data were collected. We also measured waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and body mass index (BMI). As the variables were non-normally distributed, non-parametric statistical tests were used to examine differences (Kruskal–Wallis) and correlation (Spearman) between variables.Results: The patient group did worse on the WCST In contrast to the control group, patients exhibited more significant delays for both Part A and Part B of the TMT (p< 0.05). Males had higher WCST conceptual level responses than females. In addition, participants with professional jobs showed less delay in TMT Part A (p< 0.05). Age was positively correlated with WCST’s total errors and TMT’s Parts A and B (p< 0.05). BMI was negatively correlated with the WCST’s conceptual level of responses and positively correlated with TMT’s Part B (p< 0.05). In addition, urea and albumin levels were positively correlated with TMT’s Part A (p< 0.05). Furthermore, creatinine was positively correlated with WCST’s total errors and TMT’s Part A (p< 0.05).Conclusion: Some measures of cognitive flexibility are associated with DM status in the studied sample of Jordanians and other variables (educational levels, occupation, lifestyle, average duration of illness, and age).Keywords: cognitive flexibility, diabetes mellitus, Jordan, Wisconsin card sorting test, trail making test

The study aims to develop a novel, lead-free, flexible and lightweight composite shielding material against ionizing radiation. For this, it was used bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) in RTV-2 silicon matrix. The shielding tests were carried out in both diagnostic X-ray energies and intermediate gamma-ray energy range of up to 662 keV to determine the radiation attenuation properties of this material in terms of attenuation ratio, half value layer, tenth value layer, mean free path and lead equivalency of samples in weight of 30%, 40%, 50% in Bi2O3. In the diagnostic X-ray energy range, half value layer, tenth value layer and lead equivalency (in mm Pb) of the produced samples were measured at 80 and 100 kVp narrow beam conditions according to the requirements of EN IEC 61331-1 standard. The results show that lead equivalent values of the produced novel sheets was measured to be 0.16 mm Pb, corresponding to a 6 mm thickness of the flexible sample when it contains 30% wt. Bi2O3 in RTV matrix. The experimental findings for durability and flexibility also indicated that this new RTV-based flexible, lead -free shielding composite can be used safely for especially for manufacturing aprons, garments and thyroid guards used in mammography, radiology, nuclear medicine and dental applications in practice.

Purpose The aim of this study is to compare 30-day complications, procedure-related mortality, and overall mortality rates for de novo enteral feeding tube insertion with fluoroscopy-guided percutaneous balloon-retention versus traditional locking-loop tubes.

In this paper, we introduce a new two-parameter lifetime distribution based on the type II Topp-Leone-G family and the inverse length biased exponential distribution which is called the type II Topp-Leone inverse length biased exponential (TIITL-ILBE) distribution. Various statistical properties of the proposed distribution, including the ordinary moments, moment generating function, incomplete moments, conditional moments, vitality and mean residual life functions, moments of the residual and reversed residual lifetime functions and Rényi entropy are derived. The method of maximum likelihood for estimation and some simulation results for the model parameters of the TIITL-ILBE distribution under complete samples is investigated. Also, The methods of maximum likelihood and Bayesian for estimation and some simulation results for the model parameters of the TIITL-ILBE distribution under joint censored samples is investigated. The real life data set results utilizing that the proposed distribution exhibits greater flexibility and evaluated empirically under complete and joint censored data.

In this article, we present a comprehensive class of estimators designed for population proportion estimation by leveraging auxiliary attributes within the framework of simple random sampling. The proposed class encompasses a diverse range of estimators, each of which undergoes a thorough examination. We provide numerical expressions for both bias and mean squared error, employing a first-order approximation. The significance of the introduced class of estimators is underscored through a detailed analysis of numerical results. These findings demonstrate the marked superiority of the suggested estimators over their existing counterparts in terms of mean squared error and percentage relative efficiency, as observed in both actual and simulated data scenarios. Consequently, we advocate for the adoption of the proposed class of estimators, asserting its potential to yield improved outcomes when estimating population proportions through the utilization of simple random sampling techniques.

The examination of the machining of 7075-T6 aluminum alloy polymer mold cavities using Taguchi optimization and analysis of variance is presented in this paper. This study identified the best CNC milling cutting parameters and used a mathematical model to quantify the surface roughness of the machined cavities. The findings showed that while using a flat endmill, the spindle speed multiplied by feed rate contributed 28.01% to surface roughness, and when using a ball endmill, the squared depth of cut contributed 41.27%. Using both flat and ball endmills, the depth of the cut contributed 98.53% to the material removal rate. A refined second-order linear regression model was employed to forecast the endmill-machined surface roughness. The Warp Surf Portable tester measured values that were outside the error range of approximately 0.257% and 2.8%, respectively, for the expected values. Surface roughness has a 99.97% correlation coefficient in the regression model, indicating a very significant link. Additionally, the study improved the cutting parameters for a ball endmill, which were 3005 Rpm, 726.7 mm/min, and 0.43 mm, and for a flat endmill, these were spindle speed (2500 Rpm), feed rate (650 mm/min), and axial cut depth (0.5 mm). The outcomes demonstrated how well the techniques enhanced mold cavity machining and cost estimation using Ra and MRR data. Consequently, these results can be applied to future academic studies and industrial applications.

Context: The attachment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 glycoprotein 120 (HIV-1 gp120) to the CD4 receptor of human immune cells is the beginning of HIV-1 infection. Stimulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production through upregulation of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase-2 (NOX-2) and -4 (NOX-4), and cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) of the virus can be a potential target for anti-HIV agents. Aims: To evaluate the inhibitory effects of caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs) and flavonoids of Pluchea indica leaves against the binding of HIV-1 gp120 with CD4 receptor and their antioxidant activities via interactions with NOX-2, NOX-4, and CYP2E1 through in silico study. Methods: Ten CQAs and nine flavonoids of P. indica were docked to the 3TGS (gp120 HIV-1), 2CDU (NOX-2), 3A1F (NOX-4), and 3T3Z (CYP2E1) receptors using the AutoDockTools 1.5.7. Physicochemical and pharmacokinetics properties were predicted using the pkCSM online tool, while toxicity was predicted using the ProTox-II webserver. Results: Mostly, all of the CQAs and flavonoids were able to bind to all receptors. 3,4-Di-O-caffeoylquinic acid has the lowest binding energy (-8.79 kcal/mol) against 3TGS (gp120). 5-O-Caffeoylquinic acid and apigenin have great potential as antioxidants due to their good binding with NOX-2 and CYP2E1. However, CQAs might have ADME problems. Most test compounds did not cause hepatotoxicity, carcinogenicity, or mutagenicity. All test compounds have no cytotoxic potential. However, all CQAs have the potential to be immunotoxins. Conclusions: The findings indicated that 3,4-di-O-caffeylquinic acid could be a potential inhibitor of HIV-1 gp120-CD4 binding, while 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid and apigenin demonstrated strong antioxidant activities via NOX-2 and CYP2E1 inhibition. However, in-depth studies, including experimental in vitro and in vivo studies, are required to validate the anti-HIV activity of the compounds further.

BACKGROUND: Iron deficiency (ID) is considered a common health condition among military personnel, particularly soldiers during a period of high-intensity workouts. The causes, prevention, and treatment of ID anemia (IDA) remain the subject of ongoing and extensive research in various populations. AIM: This is the first research to study the outcome of 14 weeks of intensive physical exercise on the prevalence and factors associated with ID and IDA among Saudi military male trainees. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among n = 101 trainees who completed a questionnaire on sociodemographic data, dietary habits, current or past diagnoses of medical conditions, and physical activity. Two blood samples were collected from each participant to estimate (1) C-reactive protein and iron profile and (2) complete blood counts by the CellDYN Sapphire automated blood cell counter. Hemoglobin (Hb) fractions were identified and quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography using the TOSOH G8 analyzer to exclude hemoglobinopathy and thalassemia. RESULTS: The prevalence of ID, comprising both ID erythropoiesis and IDA among trainees, was found to be 65.3%. The occurrence of IDA was 5%, while ID erythropoiesis was detected among 60.4%. The prevalence of ID was statistically significantly higher among those drinking coffee during military training (P = 0.048). CONCLUSIONS: Further studies are recommended to validate this study’s findings by incorporating a larger sample and extending the duration of the training period and examine the mechanisms that explain the increased risk of ID during vigorous military training.
