Objective To investigate the evidence-based Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) nursing interventions on myelosuppression after chemotherapy. Methods Through evidence-based nursing strategies, relevant literature on the improvement of myelosuppression after chemotherapy by TCM was searched at home and abroad, clinical evidence was found, and a TCM nursing plan was formulated and implemented in a patient with degree II myelosuppression after chemotherapy and refused to take the medication. Results Through the application of evidence, the myelosuppression was effectively improved, the white blood cells count (WBC) and the absolute number of neutrophils reached normal levels, and the whole cycle of chemotherapy was successfully completed. Conclusion Evidence-based nursing can effectively provide a strong basis for prevention and treatment of myelosuppression after chemotherapy and improve the quality of care. ObjectiveTo explore the changing trend of negative predictive value and number of false negatives in screening tests under the condition of low infection rate of infectious diseases.MethodsAssuming that the population is 20 million， to calculate the negative predictive value， numbers of true negatives and false negatives of the combination of different sensitivity （75.0%， 80.0%， 85.0%， 90.0%， 95.0%， 99.0%） and specificity （90.0%， 95.0%， 99.0%， 99.9%） when the disease infection rate of the population is 0.10%， 1.0% and 5.0% respectively.ResultsWhen the population infection rate is 0.1%， with the screening test sensitivity ≥75.0% and specificity ≥90.0%， the number of true negatives in 20 million people is about 17.98‒19.96 million. When the sensitivity is 75.0%， the negative predictive value is 99.972%‒99.975%， and the number of false negatives is 5 000； When the sensitivity increases to 99.0%， the negative predictive value is 99.999%， and the number of false negatives decreases to 200. When the population infection rate is 1.0%， a screening test with sensitivity ≥75.0% and specificity ≥90.0% can detect about 17.82‒19.78 million true negatives in 20 million population. When the sensitivity is 75.0%， the negative predictive value is 99.720%‒99.748%， and the number of false negatives is 50 000； When the sensitivity increases to 99.0%， the negative predictive value increases to 99.990%， and the number of false negatives decreases to 2 000. When the population infection rate is 5.0%， with sensitivity ≥75.0% and specificity ≥90.0%， the number of true negatives in 20 million people is about 17.10‒18.98 million； when the sensitivity is 75.0%， the negative predictive value is 98.559%‒98.700%， and the number of false negatives can reach 250 000； When the sensitivity is 99.0%， the negative predictive value increases to 99.942%‒99.947%， and the number of false negatives decreases to 10 000. The lower the infection rate of the population， the fewer false negatives will appear in the screening.ConclusionThe number of false negatives in large-scale screenings increases exponentially with the increase of infection rate. Screenings should be carried out as early as possible in a pandemic of infectious diseases， so as to control the spread of the pandemic as soon as possible.

ObjectiveTo explore the positive predictive value （PPV） and false positive （FP） number of screening test in mass testing when the prevalence of infection is low.MethodsAssuming a population of 20 million with the prevalence of disease infection ranging from 0.1% to 5.0%， PPV， true positive （TP） and FP numbers were calculated under different scenarios of combination of sensitivity （99.0%， 99.5%， and 100.0%） with specificity （97.0%， 97.5%， 98.0%， 98.5%， 99.0%， 99.5%， and 99.9%）.ResultsFor low infection prevalence （≤5.0%）， specificity has a greater impact on PPV than sensitivity； with the decrease of infection prevalence， the increase in PPV elevates when the specificity increases. Background: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a vital rodent-borne disease, and poses a serious public health threat in Hubei province. We aimed to explore the spatiotemporal distribution of HFRS in Hubei province during 2005–2022, and the effects of meteorological factors. Methods: Data on HFRS cases at the county level in Hubei province during 2005–2022 were obtained from the Chinese Center for Disease Prevention and Control Information System. The monthly meteorological data at the city level was extracted from the China Meteorological Data Sharing Service System from 2016 to 2020. Descriptive analyses, joinpoint regression model, spatial correlation analyses, Geodetector model and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model were conducted to investigate the epidemic characteristics, temporal trend, spatial distribution, influencing factors of HFRS and predict its trend. Results: A total of 6,295 cases were reported in Hubei province during 2005–2022, with an average incidence of 6/1,000,000. Most cases were males (74.52%) and aged 40–69 years (71.87%). The monthly HFRS cases showed two seasonal peaks, which were summer (May to June) and winter (November to December). The HFRS incidence remained fluctuating at a low level during 2005–2015, followed an increasing trend during 2015–2018, and then decreased during 2018–2022. Hotspots were concentrated in the center of Hubei province in all 3 periods, including Qianjiang, Tianmen and some counties from Xiangyang, Jingmen and Jingzhou cities. The distribution of HFRS had a positive association with wind speed, while a "V"-shaped correlation with mean temperature, with an explanatory power of 3.21% and 1.03% respectively (both P <0.05). The ARIMA model predicted about 1,223 cases occurred in the next 3 years. Conclusions: HFRS cases showed seasonal fluctuation and spatial clustering in Hubei province. Central plain areas showed high risk of HFRS. Wind speed and mean temperature had significant effects on the transmission of HFRS in Hubei province. The results alert health authorities to conduct disease-climate surveillance and comprehensive prevention strategies, especially in high-risk counties. Today, pathogenic microorganisms are increasingly developing resistance to conventional drugs, necessitating the exploration of alternative strategies. In addressing this challenge, nano-based antibacterial agents offer a promising avenue of research. In the present study, we used an extract of Moringa oleifera, a widely recognized edible and medicinal plant, to synthesize biogenetic tellurium nanoparticles (Bio-TeNPs). Transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and dynamic light scattering analyses revealed that the obtained Bio-TeNPs had diameters between 20 and 50 nm, and zeta potential values of 23.7 ± 3.3 mV. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the Bio-TeNPs consisted primarily of Te(0), along with some organic constituents. Remarkably, these Bio-TeNPs exhibited potent antibacterial activity against a spectrum of pathogens, including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella typhimurium, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Streptococcus agalactiae. In addition, findings from growth curve experiments, live/dead cell staining, and scanning electron microscopy observations of cell morphology demonstrated that Bio-TeNPs at a concentration of 0.07 mg/mL effectively disrupted E. coli and K. pneumoniae cells, leading to cell rupture or shrinkage. The biofilm inhibition rates of 0.7 mg/mL Bio-TeNPs against E. coli and K. pneumoniae reached 92% and 90%, respectively. In addition, 7 mg/mL Bio-TeNPs effectively eradicated E. coli from the surfaces of glass slides, with a 100% clearance rate. Desmoplasia describes the deposition of extensive extracellular matrix and defines primary pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA). The acellular component of this stroma has been implicated in PDA pathogenesis and is being targeted therapeutically in clinical trials. By analyzing the stromal content of PDA samples from numerous annotated PDA data sets and correlating stromal content with both anatomic site and clinical outcome, we found PDA metastases in the liver, the primary cause of mortality to have less stroma, have higher tumor cellularity than primary tumors. Experimentally manipulating stromal matrix with an anti-lysyl oxidase like-2 (anti-LOXL2) antibody in syngeneic orthotopic PDA mouse models significantly decreased matrix content, led to lower tissue stiffness, lower contrast retention on computed tomography, and accelerated tumor growth, resulting in diminished overall survival. Simple Summary: The rumen is a large organ unique to cattle and other ruminants and is essential for the ingestion, digestion, and absorption of large quantities of plant-based food. Cattle and likely all ruminants, however, are not born with a voluminous, functional rumen. There is remarkable postnatal growth and development in the rumen. This review summarizes the major postnatal changes in the structure and function of the bovine rumen, the major factors causing these changes, and, more importantly, the biological mechanisms underlying these changes. The rumen plays an essential role in the physiology and production of agriculturally important ruminants such as cattle. Functions of the rumen include fermentation, absorption, metabolism, and protection. Cattle are, however, not born with a functional rumen, and the rumen undergoes considerable changes in size, histology, physiology, and transcriptome from birth to adulthood. In this review, we discuss these changes in detail, the factors that affect these changes, and the potential molecular and cellular mechanisms that mediate these changes. The introduction of solid feed to the rumen is essential for rumen growth and functional development in post-weaning calves. Increasing evidence suggests that solid feed stimulates rumen growth and functional development through butyric acid and other volatile fatty acids (VFAs) produced by microbial fermentation of feed in the rumen and that VFAs stimulate rumen growth and functional development through hormones such as insulin and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) or through direct actions on energy production, chromatin modification, and gene expression. Given the role of the rumen in ruminant physiology and performance, it is important to further study the cellular, molecular, genomic, and epigenomic mechanisms that control rumen growth and development in postnatal ruminants. A better understanding of these mechanisms could lead to the development of novel strategies to enhance the growth and development of the rumen and thereby the productivity and health of cattle and other agriculturally important ruminants. Intramuscular fat, also referred to as marbling fat, is the white fat deposited within skeletal muscle tissue. The content of intramuscular fat in the skeletal muscle, particularly the longissimus dorsi muscle, of cattle is a critical determinant of beef quality and value. In this review, we summarize the process of intramuscular fat development and growth, the factors that affect this process, and the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms that mediate this process in cattle. Compared to other species, cattle have a remarkable ability to accumulate intramuscular fat, partly attributed to the abundance of sources of fatty acids for synthesizing triglycerides. Compared to other adipose depots such as subcutaneous fat, intramuscular fat develops later and grows more slowly. The commitment and differentiation of adipose precursor cells into adipocytes as well as the maturation of adipocytes are crucial steps in intramuscular fat development and growth in cattle. Each of these steps is controlled by various factors, underscoring the complexity of the regulatory network governing adipogenesis in the skeletal muscle. These factors include genetics, epigenetics, nutrition (including maternal nutrition), rumen microbiome, vitamins, hormones, weaning age, slaughter age, slaughter weight, and stress. Many of these factors seem to affect intramuscular fat deposition through the transcriptional or epigenetic regulation of genes directly involved in the development and growth of intramuscular fat. A better understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which intramuscular fat develops and grows in cattle will help us develop more effective strategies to optimize intramuscular fat deposition in cattle, thereby maximizing the quality and value of beef meat. A local COVID-19 outbreak with two community clusters occurred in a large industrial city, Shaoxing, China, in December 2021 after serial interventions were imposed. We aimed to understand the reason by analysing the characteristics of the outbreak and evaluating the effects of phase-adjusted interventions. Publicly available data from 7 December 2021 to 25 January 2022 were collected to analyse the epidemiological characteristics of this outbreak. The incubation period was estimated using Hamiltonian Monte Carlo method. A well-fitted extended susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered model was used to simulate the impact of different interventions under various combination of scenarios. There were 387 SARS-CoV-2-infected cases identified, and 8.3% of them were initially diagnosed as asymptomatic cases. The estimated incubation period was 5.4 (95% CI 5.2–5.7) days for all patients. Strengthened measures of comprehensive quarantine based on tracing led to less infections and a shorter duration of epidemic. With a same period of incubation, comprehensive quarantine was more effective in containing the transmission than other interventions. Our findings reveal an important role of tracing and comprehensive quarantine in blocking community spread when a cluster occurred. Regions with tense resources can adopt home quarantine as a relatively affordable and low-impact intervention measure compared with centralized quarantine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Aim: Microbiome‐targeted therapies (MTTs) are considered as promising interventions for cirrhosis, but the impact of gut microbiome modulation on liver function and disease severity has not been fully assessed. We comprehensively evaluated the efficacy of MTTs in patients with liver cirrhosis. Methods: Data from randomized controlled trials were collected through MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrial.gov from inception to February 20, 2023. Clinical outcomes were pooled and expressed in terms of risk ratios or mean differences (MD). Additional subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed to validate the robustness of findings. A trial sequential analysis was applied to calculate the required information size and evaluate the credibility of the meta‐analysis results. Results: Twenty‐one studies with a total of 1699 cirrhotic patients were included for meta‐analysis. MTTs were associated with a significant reduction in aspartate aminotransferase (MD, −3.62; 95% CI, −6.59 to −0.65), the risk of hepatic encephalopathy (risk ratio = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.46 to 0.68), model for end‐stage liver disease score (MD, −0.90; 95% CI, −1.17 to −0.11), ammonia (MD, −11.86; 95% CI, −16.39 to −7.33), and endotoxin (MD, −0.14; 95% CI, −0.23 to −0.04). The trial sequential analysis yielded reliable results of these outcomes. No effects were observed on the changes of other hepatic function indicators. Conclusion: MTTs appeared to be associated with a slowed deterioration in liver cirrhosis, which could provide reference for clinicians in treatment of cirrhotic patients based on their conditions. Background: Schistosomiasis is of great public health concern with a wide distribution and multiple determinants. Due to the advances in schistosomiasis elimination and the need for precision prevention and control, identifying determinants at a fine scale is urgent and necessary, especially for resource deployment in practice. Our study aimed to identify the determinants for the seropositive rate of schistosomiasis at the village level and to explore their spatial variations in local space. Methodology: The seropositive rates of schistosomiasis were collected from 1714 villages or communities in Human Province, and six spatial regression models including ordinary least squares (OLS), spatial lag model (SLM), spatial error model (SEM), geographically weighted regression (GWR), robust GWR (RGWR) and multiscale GWR (MGWR) were used to fit the data. Principal/Findings: MGWR was the best-fitting model (R2: 0.821, AICc:2727.092). Overall, the nearest distance from the river had the highest mean negative correlation, followed by proportion of households using well water and the annual average daytime surface temperature. The proportions of unmodified toilets showed the highest mean positive correlation, followed by the snail infested area, and the number of cattle. In spatial variability, the regression coefficients for the nearest distance from the river, annual average daytime surface temperature and the proportion of unmodified toilets were significant in all villages or communities and varied little in local space. The other significant determinants differed substantially in local space and had significance ratios ranging from 41% to 70%, including the number of cattle, the snail infested area and the proportion of households using well water. Conclusions/Significance: Our study shows that MGWR was well performed for the spatial variability of schistosomiasis in Hunan province. The spatial variability was different for different determinants. The findings for the determinants for the seropositive rate and mapped variability for some key determinants at the village level can be used for developing precision intervention measure for schistosomiasis control. A site-specific analysis of the determinants allows organizers to adjust and clarify the focus areas for the next round. Myoblast differentiation is a complex process whereby the mononuclear muscle precursor cells myoblasts express skeletal-muscle-specific genes and fuse with each other to form multinucleated myotubes. The objective of this study was to identify potentially novel mechanisms that mediate myoblast differentiation. We first compared transcriptomes in C2C12 myoblasts before and 6 days after induction of myogenic differentiation by RNA-seq. This analysis identified 11,046 differentially expressed genes, of which 5615 and 5431 genes were upregulated and downregulated, respectively, from before differentiation to differentiation. Functional enrichment analyses revealed that the upregulated genes were associated with skeletal muscle contraction, autophagy, and sarcomeres while the downregulated genes were associated with ribonucleoprotein complex biogenesis, mRNA processing, ribosomes, and other biological processes or cellular components. Western blot analyses showed an increased conversion of LC3-I to LC3-II protein during myoblast differentiation, further demonstrating the upregulation of autophagy during myoblast differentiation. Blocking the autophagic flux in C2C12 cells with chloroquine inhibited the expression of skeletal-muscle-specific genes and the formation of myotubes, confirming a positive role for autophagy in myoblast differentiation and fusion. Thallium (Tl) is an extremely toxic rare metal to the eco-environment. Trace thallium impurity in ammonium perrhenate is harmful to the high-temperature mechanical properties of rhenium metal used for aeroengine single crystal blade. The di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (P204) extraction to remove thallium in ammonium perrhenate solution without additive was innovatively proposed. The migration behavior of trace thallium with the concentration of P204, saponification degree and organic/aqueous phase (O/A) ratio, distribution law of thallium in the extraction system of P204, and mechanism of thallium removal were revealed. It was found Tl removal was rapidly increased to 98.5%, at conditions of P204 0.75 mol/L saponified 70% by ammonia, Tl 3.27 mg/L, O/A 1:1, T 298.15 ± 2 K, 250 rpm, and 3 min. McCabe-Thiele Tl extraction equilibrium isotherms indicates Tl concentration of raffinate less than 18.7 μg/L, a theoretical extraction of two stages and a theoretical stripping of two stages are required when both O/A work lines were at 1.0. Therefore, the method of the P204 solvent extraction system can effectively extract Tl in the forms of TlA(org), TlA3(org), TlOHA2(org), and Tl(OH)2A(org). Background Acupuncture therapy has been widely applied all around the world. But there still lacks high-quality evidence to evaluate its clinical effects, safety and cost-effectiveness, which seriously restricts its further promotion and development. Acupuncture, as an operational intervention, is more complex than drug therapy. Factors involved in the acupuncture operation process, such as individual and interventional factors, may affect the clinical effects. Purposes Through this systematic review, we attempt to analyze the current status of studies about the key factors influencing clinical effects, so as to provide evidence for the design of acupuncture studies. Methods A literature research was conducted in six databases until May, 2020. Studies were screened and assessed by two authors independently. Data extraction was made after screening. We extracted the basic information of these studies, including publishing years and countries, population and factors influencing clinical effects. Results Through the initial search in these six database, 6404 records were retrieved. After duplication and screening, a total of 355 studies were finally included in the qualitative analysis. About 88.5% of these studies were conducted in China with increasing number in the past decades, covering neurological disorders, orthopedic disorders, obstetrical and gynecological diseases, digestive diseases and so on; 239 studies focused on stimulus parameters which may influence effects, accounting for 67.3%, and 128, 44, 39, 32, 15, 11 studies discussed acupoints, patients' pathological states, individual difference, psychological states, deqi , and other factors separately. Conclusion There are more and more studies focusing on factors influencing acupuncture clinical effects, including stimulus parameters, acupoints, individual difference, patient pathological and psychological states. Based on this systematic review, several ignored factors should be considered for future researches, and more scientifically and objectively high quality evidence should also be proved. Nutritional deprivation decreases blood insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) concentrations in a variety of species. In this study, we explored the underlying mechanism by determining the effects of food deprivation on the levels of total IGF-I mRNA and total growth hormone receptor (GHR) mRNA, as well as the levels of individual IGF-I mRNA variants and GHR mRNA variants in the liver of steers. Food deprivation for nearly 3 d decreased the levels of serum IGF-I by 63% (P < 0.01), and this decrease was associated with a 75% decrease (P < 0.01)in total IGF-I mRNA in the liver. The food deprivation-induced decrease in liver total IGF-I mRNA was associated with an equivalent decrease in the levels of both class 1 and class 2 IGF-I mRNA. In addition to IGF-I mRNA, food deprivation also decreased the levels of total GHR mRNA in the liver (P < 0.05), and this decrease was associated with a decrease in the liver expression of GHR mRNA variants 1C3 (P < 0.05) and 1A (P = 0.08). Food deprivation did not affect the levels of two other major GHR mRNA variants, 1B and 1C2, in the liver. These results demonstrate that the food deprivation-induced decrease in circulating IGF-I in steers is associated with a coordinate decrease in the expression of different IGF-I mRNA variants and a specific decrease in the expression of GHR mRNA variants 1C3 and 1A in the liver. Skeletal muscle from meat-producing livestock such as cattle is a major source of food for humans. To improve skeletal muscle growth efficiency or quality in cattle, it is necessary to understand the genetic and physiological mechanisms that govern skeletal muscle composition, development, and growth. Satellite cells are the myogenic progenitor cells in postnatal skeletal muscle. In this study we analyzed the composition of bovine satellite cells with single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq). We isolated satellite cells from a 2-week-old male calf, cultured them in growth medium for a week, and performed scRNA-seq using the 10x Genomics platform. Deep sequencing of two scRNA-seq libraries constructed from cultured bovine satellite cells yielded 860 million reads. Cell calling analyses revealed that these reads were sequenced from 19,096 individual cells. Clustering analyses indicated that these reads represented 15 cell clusters that differed in gene expression profile. Based on the enriched expression of markers of satellite cells (PAX7 and PAX3), markers of myoblasts (MYOD1, MYF5), and markers of differentiated myoblasts or myocytes (MYOG), three clusters were determined to be satellite cells, two clusters myoblasts, and two clusters myocytes. Gene ontology and trajectory inference analyses indicated that cells in these myogenic clusters differed in proliferation rate and differentiation stage. Two of the remaining clusters were enriched with PDGFRA, a marker of fibro-adipogenic (FAP) cells, the progenitor cells for intramuscular fat, and are therefore considered to be FAP cells. Gene ontology analyses indicated active lipogenesis in one of these two clusters. The identity of the remaining six clusters could not be defined. Overall, the results of this study support the hypothesis that bovine satellite cells are composed of subpopulations that differ in transcriptional and myogenic state.
