Abstract

Given the consensus that pressure improves cation order in most of known materials, a discovery of pressure-induced disorder could require reconsideration of order-disorder transition in solid state physics/chemistry and geophysics. Double perovskites Y2CoIrO6 and Y2CoRuO6 synthesized at ambient pressure show B-site order, while the polymorphs synthesized at 6 and 15 GPa are partially-ordered and disordered respectively. With the decrease of ordering degrees, the lattices are shrunken and the crystal structures alter from monoclinic to orthorhombic symmetry. Correspondingly, long-range ferrimagnetic order in the B-site ordered phases are gradually overwhelmed by B-site disorder. Theoretical calculations suggest that unusual unit cell compressions under external pressures unexpectedly stabilize the disordered phases of Y2CoIrO6 and Y2CoRuO6., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 1 table

Abstract

In this study, we have synthesized a nanostructured core–shell framework of carbon-coated copper sulfide (C@CuS) through a one-step precipitation technique. The carbon sphere template facilitated the nucleation of CuS nanostructures. The synthesized nanocomposites have demonstrated remarkable lithium-ion storage capabilities when utilized as an anode in lithium-ion batteries. Notably, they exhibit an impressive rate capability of 314 mAh g−1 at a high current density of 5000 mA g−1, along with excellent long-term cycle stability, maintaining 463 mAh g−1 at 1000 mA g−1 after 800 cycles. This superior performance is due to the core–shell architecture of the composite, where the carbon core enhances the conductivity of CuS nanoparticles and mitigates volume expansion, thus preventing capacity loss. Our study not only elucidates the significance of carbon in the construction of nano-heterojunctions or composite electrodes but also presents a practical approach to significantly boost the electrochemical performance of CuS and other metal sulfides. Abstract

Transition metal borides have emerged as pivotal players in various fields. In addition to their exceptional properties such as high hardness, a high melting point, and corrosion resistance, certain compounds exhibit remarkable characteristics including superconductivity, magnetism, electrical conductivity, and catalytic activity. Among these compounds, ZrB12 has garnered significant attention due to its unique physicochemical properties. However, previous research on ZrB12 has predominantly focused on its mechanical behavior while overlooking the electron-electron interactions of the superconducting state. In this paper, resistance characterization of ZrB12 under high-pressure conditions was conducted to further investigate its superconductivity. Our research findings indicate that ZrB12 maintains its superconductivity within a pressure range of 0 to 1.5 GPa and is classified as a type 2 superconductor. Additionally, the results confirm the anisotropic nature of ZrB12's superconductivity. As the pressure increases, the superconducting transition temperature undergoes a gradual decrease. Remarkably, ZrB12 exhibits metallic behavior under pressures up to 31.4 GPa. The observed decline in superconductivity in ZrB12 can be ascribed to the intensified influence of Zr's movement on phonon dispersion, ultimately leading to a reduction in carrier concentration. Abstract

In this study, we synthesized spinel high-entropy oxide (HEO) (Cr0.2Mn0.2Co0.2Ni0.2Zn0.2)3O4 nanoparticles by a simple solution combustion method. These particles were investigated for their performance as anodes in lithium-ion batteries. The reversible capacity is 132 mAh·g−1 after 100 cycles at a current density of 100 mA·g−1, 107 mAh·g−1 after 1000 cycles at a current density of 1 A g−1, and 96 mAh·g−1 rate capacity at a high current density of 2 A g−1. The outstanding cycle stability under high current densities and remarkable rate performance can be attributed to the stable structure originating from the high entropy of the material. Abstract

Superconductivity (SC) was experimentally observed for the first time in antimony polyhydride. The diamond anvil cell combined with a laser heating system was used to synthesize the antimony polyhydride sample at high pressure and high temperature. In - situ high pressure transport measurements as a function of temperature with an applied magnetic field were performed to study the SC properties. It was found that the antimony polyhydride samples show superconducting transition with critical temperature T c 116 K at 184 GPa. The investigation of SC at magnetic field revealed the superconducting coherent length of ∼40 Å based on the Ginzburg Landau (GL) equation. Antimony polyhydride superconductor has the second highest T c in addition to sulfur hydride among the polyhydrides of elements from main groups IIIA to VIIA in the periodic table.
