Abstract Background Meat quality in yak is influenced by the fluctuation of nutritional composition in different grazing seasons on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. However, the molecular mechanism underlying in yak meat remains unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the seasonal dynamics of meat quality in yak by transcriptomics and metabolomics techniques. Twelve healthy female yaks with a similar weight were divided into two groups, including the warm season group (WS) and cold season group (CS). After slaughter, samples of longissimus lumborum were collected and subjected to transcriptomics and metabolomics to explore the effects of different seasons on meat quality. Results Yak in the WS group had higher contents of n-3 Polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), n-6 PUFA, threonine, and valine compared to the CS group, but the pH45min and b* values were lower. A total of 75 differentially expressed metabolites in the longissimus lumborum muscle were identified, with 23 metabolites upregulated and 52 metabolites downregulated in the WS group. These metabolites were mainly enriched in the pathway of glycine, serine and threonine metabolism, tryptophan metabolism, and carbohydrate digestion and absorption. In comparison, the WS group exhibited 262 upregulated genes in the longissimus lumborum muscle and 81 downregulated genes relatives to the CS group, which were enriched in the fat deposition of TGF-beta, ECM-receptor interaction, MAPK, and PPAR signaling pathway. Conclusions Among these, downregulated genes NPNT, GADL1, SESN3, and CPXM1 were associated with lipid metabolism and fat deposition in grazing yaks. It was found that DDC, DHTKD1, CCBL1, GCDH, and AOC1 involved in the tryptophan metabolism played an important role in the regulation of energy metabolism in yak.

Abstract Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) is a challenging task due to the presence of multiple aspect words with different sentiment polarities in a sentence. Recently, pre-trained language models like BERT have been widely used as context encoders in ABSA. Graph neural networks have also been employed to extract syntactic and semantic information from sentence parsing trees, resulting in superior results. However, dependency trees may establish irrelevant dependencies for sentences with irregular syntax and complex structures. Additionally, previous methods have not fully utilized recent developments in pre-trained language models. Therefore, we propose a Dual Syntax aware Graph attention networks with Prompt (DSGP) model to address these issues. Our model utilizes prompt templates to maximize the potential of pre-trained models and masked vector outputs of templates as supplementary aspect feature representations. We also leverage both dependency trees and constituent trees with graph attention networks to extract different types of syntactic information. The dependency tree captures syntactic correlation between words, while the constituent tree provides a high-level formation of the sentence. Finally, the output from the prompt and parsing trees is fused and fed into a standard classifier. Experimental results on four public datasets demonstrate the competitive performance of our model.

Response inhibition is an essential component of cognitive function. A large body of literature has used neuroimaging data to uncover the neural architecture that regulates inhibitory control in general and movement cancelation. The presupplementary motor area (preSMA) and the right inferior frontal cortex (rIFC) are the key nodes in the inhibitory control network. However, how these two regions contribute to response inhibition remains controversial. Based on the Pause-then-Cancel Model (PTC), this study employed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the functional specificity of two regions in the stopping process. The Go/No-Go task (GNGT) and the Stop Signal Task (SST) were administered to the same group of participants. We used the GNGT to dissociate the pause process and both the GNGT and the SST to investigate the inhibition mechanism. Imaging data revealed that response inhibition produced by both tasks activated the preSMA and rIFC. Furthermore, an across-participants analysis showed that increased activation in the rIFC was associated with a delay in the go response in the GNGT. In contrast, increased activation in the preSMA was associated with good inhibition efficiency via the striatum in both GNGT and SST. These behavioral and imaging findings support the PTC model of the role of rIFC and preSMA, that the former is involved in a pause process to delay motor responses, whereas the preSMA is involved in the stopping of motor responses.

Knowledge of the temperature response of load-bearing structures in suspension bridges under vehicle fires is a prerequisite for fire protection measures. In this study, a double-deck suspension bridge was adopted as the engineering background. The temperature response of the main cables and slings was examined in the case of a fire on the upper vehicle deck, and the temperature characteristics of load-bearing structures such as trusses and the roof plate were investigated on the lower vehicle deck. The simulation variables included heat release rate (HRR), fire location, and ambient wind speed. The results showed that: (1) The fire temperature rose as HRR increased, and the fire temperature was inversely proportional to the wind speed. (2) When a fire occurred on the upper bridge deck, the maximum width of the high-temperature area on the main cable was 15 m, and the maximum temperature was 1040 °C. (3) When a fire occurred on the lower bridge deck, the maximum temperature of the truss was 1209 °C, and the maximum height of the high-temperature area exceeding 300 °C was 7.6 m. The maximum temperature reached in a 200 MW oil tanker fire was 1344 °C, lasting 3650 s.

Safety monitoring of prefabricated subway stations is essential for early detection of potential damages to mitigate major accidents. This study developed an integrated multi-scale safety assessment and monitoring strategy for a prefabricated subway station by combining space-borne synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR), ground-based machine vision, and internal-distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) technologies. Compared to the traditional single-data-source-monitoring method, the proposed space-ground-internal integration strategy is designed to monitor the multi-scale damages of prefabricated subaway stations. This includes the mm level of ground subsidence, submm level of structural surface deformation, and microstrain level of structural internal strain field. Taking the prefabricated Shapu Station in Shenzhen as the research site, the spatiotemporal evolution of land subsidence, the underground structural settlement and convergence deformation, as well as the structural internal strain changes were monitored. Then, a multi-scale data fusion methodology combining the space-borne InSAR, the ground-based machine vision, and the internal DFOS measurements was presented for effective safety assessment of the subway station. The monitoring results indicated that deformation occurred during the backfill period, and the settlement of the dangerous assembly ring increased (the seventh ring was at the lowest safety level) when the backfill of the assembly section was completed.

The rapid development of China’s aviation industry has caused a rapid increase in airport PM2.5 emissions. This study uses the Global Exposure Mortality Model (GEMM) to evaluate the monthly deaths caused by aircraft activities at 164 airports in China from 2015 to 2023, based on the PM2.5 concentration of airport aircraft activities and the detection data of the China National Environmental Monitoring Center, including twenty age groups, six diseases, and gender. This paper presents three main conclusions. Firstly, aviation PM2.5 emissions significantly impact mortality, with notable variations by year and season. The highest cumulative deaths are recorded in 2023, particularly in the third quarter, which peaked at 8,305 deaths. Despite the comparatively modest total of 11,604 deaths in 2022, a mere 0.2965 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 concentration would precipitate an additional 39,138 deaths, representing a 1.05-fold rise from 2015. Secondly, the 80–84 age bracket exhibited the highest death proportion (16.51 %–18.73 %), while the 5–9 and 10–14 age groups had the lowest (0 %-0.13 %). Males aged 80–84 are the most affected demographic, with each 1 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 leading to an additional 87 male deaths monthly in 2023, primarily from stroke and ischemic heart disease. In contrast, females only experienced 67 additional deaths per month from the same concentration increase. Lastly, airports in the economically vibrant Beijing-Shanghai-Guangzhou-Shenzhen region showed the highest mortality rates due to PM2.5 emissions. Airports in eastern coastal areas are more severely impacted than those in central and western China, revealing a spatial clustering of high death tolls in developed regions.

Manganese (Mn) is necessary for various biological processes, yet its function in innate immunity has been less studied, especially in fish. Stimulator of interferon (IFN) genes (STING) is an essential factor for IFN induction in virus infection. Our study demonstrated that Mn2+ increases the ability of zebrafish to resist spring viraemia of carp virus (SVCV) infection by enhancing the expression of STING. Further mechanistic studies indicated that Mn2+ promotes the expression of STING by increasing its ubiquitination. Furthermore, Mn2+treatment promoted STING-mediated activation of IFN and reversed the decrease in STING protein induced by SVCV. Collectively, our findings showed the vital involvement and necessity of Mn2+ in protecting fish against SVCV infection.

Background Plant species diversity is of great significance to maintain the structure and function of the grassland ecosystem. Analyzing community niche and interspecific associations is crucial for understanding changes in plant species diversity. However, there are few studies on the response of plant species diversity, species niche characteristics, and interspecific relationships to nitrogen addition in alpine meadows on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Methods This study investigates the effects of different levels of nitrogen addition (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 g N m−2) on plant species diversity, functional group importance values, niche width, niche overlap, and interspecific associations in an alpine meadow. Results 1) Compared with the control (CK), the Shannon-Weiner index and species richness index significantly increased by 11.36% and 30.77%, respectively, with nitrogen addition at 30 g N m−2, while both indices significantly decreased by 14.48% and 23.08%, respectively, at 60 g N m−2. As nitrogen addition increased, the importance value of grasses showed an upward trend, whereas the importance value of sedges showed a decline. 2) The niche width of Poa pratensis L., Elymus nutans Griseb., and Stipa purpurea Griseb. are increased with higher nitrogen addition. As nitrogen addition increases, the niche overlap values also show a rising trend. At 60 g N m−2, the overall community association in the alpine meadow exhibited a significant negative correlation. These findings suggest that grasses exhibit strong ecological adaptability under high nitrogen addition and gain a competitive advantage in spatial competition, increasing their niche width. Moreover, as nitrogen levels increase, the importance values of grasses rise significantly, and their ecological characteristics become more similar, resulting in reduced niche overlap among plant species. Furthermore, high nitrogen addition intensifies interspecific competition between grasses, sedges, and forbs, disrupting the original balance and reducing species diversity. These insights provide a valuable understanding of changes in species diversity and competitive dynamics in alpine meadow plant communities under high nitrogen addition.

The pilot directional protection based on amplitude comparison of the traveling wave (TW) has good performance in flexible DC transmission systems. However, this type of protection may fail to detect internal line faults correctly, as the amplitude of the forward voltage TW may be greater than that of the backward voltage TW in some fault cases. To address this issue, a novel pilot protection method based on the difference of fault TWs has been proposed. The proposed method fully considers the polarity of backward voltage TW and current TW. By utilizing the electrical quantity relationship at the line boundary, the difference between the two TWs mentioned above is transformed into the difference between the forward and backward voltage TWs. In this way, a conclusion is drawn that the absolute value of the integral ratio of forward and backward voltage TWs is less than 1 in the case of forward faults, and much greater than 1 when reverse faults occur. Therefore, a reliable directional identification criterion based on the forward and backward voltage TWs has been developed. Hardware-in-the-loop experiments and test results showcase that the proposed protection method has higher sensitivity and reliability for line faults.

BACKGROUND: One-lung ventilation (OLV) is frequently applied during video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) airway management to collapse and isolate the nondependent lung (NL). OLV can give rise to hypoxemia as a result of the pulmonary shunting produced. Our study aimed to assess the influence of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) combined with small-tidal-volume ventilation on improving arterial oxygenation and decreasing pulmonary shunt rate (QS/QT) without compromising surgical field exposure during OLV. METHODS: Forty-eight patients undergoing scheduled VATS lobectomy were enrolled in this research and allocated into three groups at random: C group (conventional ventilation, no NL ventilation intervention was performed), LP group (NL was ventilated with lower CPAP [2 cmH2O] and a 40–60 mL tidal volume [TV]), and HP group (NL was ventilated with higher CPAP [5 cmH2O] and a 60–80 mL TV). Record the blood gas analysis data and calculate the QS/QT at the following time: at the beginning of the OLV (T0), 30 min after OLV (T1), and 60 min after OLV (T2). Surgeons blinded to ventilation techniques were invited to evaluate the surgical fields. RESULTS: The demography data of the three groups were consistent with the surgical data. At T1, PaO2 in the HP group was substantially higher compared to the C group (P < 0.05), while there was no significant difference in the LP group (P > 0.05). At T1-T2, PaCO2 in the LP and HP groups was significantly less than that in the C group (P < 0.05). At T1, the QS/QT values of groups C, LP, and HP were 29.54 ± 6.89%, 22.66 ± 2.08%, and 19.64 ± 5.76%, respectively, and the QS/QT values in the LP and HP groups markedly reduced (P < 0.01). The surgical field’s evaluation by the surgeon among the three groups was not notable (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: CPAP combined with small-tidal-volume ventilation effectively improved arterial oxygenation and reduced QS/QT and PaCO2 without compromising surgical field exposure during OLV. Among them, 5 cmH2O CPAP + 60–80 ml TV ventilation had a better effect on improving oxygenation.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic immune disease that is difficult to cure. We recently found that chick early amniotic fluid (ceAF) has notable anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties, through its active components. This study demonstrates the potential of ceAF as a protective agent against UC. UPLC-MS mass spectrometry identified key components of ceAF, including various fatty acids and nucleosides. In vitro, ceAF improved viability in DSS-induced Caco-2 cells, reduced pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α, and increased the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. It also upregulated the tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin. In DSS-induced UC mice, ceAF treatment alleviated weight loss, colon shortening, and disease activity, while improving histopathology, crypt depth, and colonic fibrosis. Mechanistically, ceAF’s anti-inflammatory effects are mediated by inhibiting the overactivation of TCR signaling through the LCK/ZAP70/LAT pathway. Our findings suggest that ceAF could be a valuable nutritional intervention for UC, potentially enhancing existing functional foods aimed at managing this condition.

Summary: The rapid growth of global aviation emissions has significantly impacted the environment, leading to an urgent need to use carbon reduction methods. This paper analyzes global aviation’s carbon dioxide (CO2), N2O, and CH4 emission changes under different hydrogen energy application paths. The global warming potential over a 100-year period (GWP100) method is used to convert the emissions of N2O and CH4 into CO2-equivalent. Here, we report the results: if the global aviation industry begins using hydrogen turbine engines by 2040, it could reduce cumulative CO2-equivalent emissions by 2.217E+10 tons by 2080, which is 2.12% higher than starting hydrogen fuel cell engines in 2045. However, adopting hydrogen fuel cell engines 10 years earlier shows greater reduction capabilities than hydrogen turbine engines, achieving an accumulated reduction of 3.006E+10 tons of CO2-equivalent emissions. Therefore, the timing of adoption notably affects hydrogen fuel cell engines more than hydrogen turbine engines. Delaying adoption makes hydrogen fuel cell engines’ performance lag hydrogen turbine engines. Science for society: Hydrogen is considered one of the key measures to achieve net-zero emissions from aviation. This study discusses the role of hydrogen turbines and fuel cells in reducing emissions in the aviation industry. It is found that the application time of hydrogen energy is crucial to the emission reduction effect. Before hydrogen energy is fully realized, it will be possible for sustainable aviation fuel to be a promising choice for the aviation industry as a transitional energy source.

Summary: The aviation industry’s emissions have had a significant impact on global climate change. This study focuses on carbon emission trading schemes, sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs), and hydrogen energy, as vital means for the aviation industry to reduce emissions. To evaluate the climate effects of global routes under four scenarios (24 sub-scenarios) until 2100, this study proposes the Aviation-FAIR (Aviation-Finite Amplitude Impulse Response) method. The findings reveal that while CO2 emissions and concentrations are significant, other emissions, such as N2O and CH4, have a greater effective radiative forcing (ERF) and contribute significantly to climate change. Moreover, SAFs are more effective in mitigating airline pollutant emissions than relying solely on carbon trading schemes. The effectiveness of hydrogen fuel cells may be hindered by technical limitations compared to hydrogen turbine engines. The findings of this study provide reference for the global aviation industry to adopt emission reduction measures.

Abstract Background The PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and autophagy are important physiological processes. But their roles in eCRSwNP remains controversial. Methods In this study, we used the eCRSwNP mouse model, PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway inhibitors, and autophagy inhibitors and activators to investigate the regulatory effects of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway on autophagy, and their effects on eosinophilic inflammation, and tissue remodeling. The role of ILC2s in eCRSwNP was also studied, and the relationship between ILC2s and autophagy was preliminarily determined. Results Our results show that eosinophilic inflammation in eCRSwNP mice could be inhibited by promoting the autophagy; otherwise, eosinophilic inflammation could be promoted. Meanwhile, inhibition of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway can further promote autophagy and inhibit eosinophilic inflammation. Meanwhile, inhibiting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and promoting autophagy can reduce the number of ILC2s and the severity of tissue remodeling in the nasal polyps of eCRSwNP mice. Conclusions We conclude that the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway plays roles in eosinophilic inflammation and tissue remodeling of eCRSwNP, in part by regulating the level of autophagy. The downregulation of autophagy is a pathogenesis of eCRSwNP; therefore, the recovery of normal autophagy levels might be a new target for eCRSwNP therapy. Furthermore, autophagy might inhibit eosinophilic inflammation and tissue remodeling, in part by reducing the number of ILC2s.
