Abstract Background Identification of difficult laryngoscopy is a frequent demand in cervical spondylosis clinical surgery. This work aims to develop a hybrid architecture for identifying difficult laryngoscopy based on new indexes. Methods Initially, two new indexes for identifying difficult laryngoscopy are proposed, and their efficacy for predicting difficult laryngoscopy is compared to that of two conventional indexes. Second, a hybrid adaptive architecture with convolutional layers, spatial extraction, and a vision transformer is proposed for predicting difficult laryngoscopy. The proposed adaptive hybrid architecture is then optimized by determining the optimal location for extracting spatial information. Results The test accuracy of four indexes using simple model is 0.8320. The test accuracy of optimized hybrid architecture using four indexes is 0.8482. Conclusion The newly proposed two indexes, the angle between the lower margins of the second and sixth cervical spines and the vertical direction, are validated to be effective for recognizing difficult laryngoscopy. In addition, the optimized hybrid architecture employing four indexes demonstrates improved efficacy in detecting difficult laryngoscopy. Trial registration Ethics permission for this research was obtained from the Medical Scientific Research Ethics Committee of Peking University Third Hospital (IRB00006761-2015021) on 30 March 2015. A well-informed agreement has been received from all participants. Although SISR (Single Image Super Resolution) problem can be effectively solved by deep learning based methods, the training phase often considers single degradation type such as bicubic interpolation or Gaussian blur with fixed variance. These priori hypotheses often fail and lead to reconstruction error in real scenario. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end CNN model RPSRMD to handle SR problem in multiple Gaussian degradations by extracting and using as side information a shared image prior that is consistent in different Gaussian degradations. The shared image prior is generated by an AED network RPGen with a rationally designed loss function that contains two parts: consistency loss and validity loss. These losses supervise the training of AED to guarantee that the image priors of one image with different Gaussian blurs to be very similar. Afterwards we carefully designed a SR network, which is termed as PResNet (Prior based Residual Network) in this paper, to efficiently use the image priors and generate high quality and robust SR images when unknown Gaussian blur is presented. When we applied variant Gaussian blurs to the low resolution images, the experiments prove that our proposed RPSRMD, which includes RPGen and PResNet as two core components, is superior to many state-of-the-art SR methods that were designed and trained to handle multi-degradation.

Localization and mapping in a dynamic scene is a crucial problem for the indoor visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system. Most existed visual odometry (VO) or SLAM systems are based on the assumption that the environment is static. The performance of a SLAM system may degenerate when it is operated in a severely dynamic environment. The assumption limits the applications of RGB-D SLAM in the dynamic environment. In this paper, we propose a workflow to segment the objects accurately, which will be marked as the potentially dynamic-object area based on the semantic information. A novel approach for motion detection and removal from the moving camera is introduced. We integrate the semantics-based motion detection and the segmentation approach with an RGB-D SLAM system. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, we conduct the experiments on the challenging dynamic sequences of TUM-RGBD datasets. The experimental results suggest that our approach improves the accuracy of localization and outperforms the state-of-the-art dynamic-removal-based SLAM system in both severely dynamic and slightly dynamic scenes.

Recently, in a series of papers [Y. Rahimi, C. Wang, H. Dong, and Y. Lou, SIAM J. Sci. Comput., 41 (2019), pp. A3649-A3672; C. Wang, M. Tao, J. Nagy, and Y. Lou, SIAM J. Imaging Sci., 14 (2021), pp. 749-777; C. Wang, M. Yan, and Y. Lou, IEEE Trans. Signal Process., 68 (2020), pp. 2660-2669; P. Yin, E. Esser, and J. Xin, Commun. Inf. Syst., 14 (2014), pp. 87-109], the ratio of ℓ1 and ℓ2 norms was proposed as a sparsity inducing function for noiseless compressed sensing. In this paper, we further study properties of such model in the noiseless setting, and propose an algorithm for minimizing ℓ1/ℓ2 subject to noise in the measurements. Specifically, we show that the extended objective function (the sum of the objective and the indicator function of the constraint set) of the model in [Y. Rahimi, C. Wang, H. Dong, and Y. Lou, SIAM J. Sci. Comput., 41 (2019), pp. A3649-A3672] satisfies the Kurdyka--Lojasiewicz (KL) property with exponent 1/2; this allows us to establish linear convergence of the algorithm proposed in [C. Wang, M. Yan, and Y. Lou, IEEE Trans. Signal Process., 68 (2020), pp. 2660-2669] (see equation 11) under mild assumptions. We next extend the ℓ1/ℓ2 model to handle compressed sensing problems with noise. We establish the solution existence for some of these models under the spherical section property [S. A. Vavasis, Derivation of Compressive Sensing Theorems from the Spherical Section Property, University of Waterloo, 2009; Y. Zhang, J. Oper. Res. Soc. China, 1 (2013), pp. 79-105] and extend the algorithm in [C. Wang, M. Yan, and Y. Lou, IEEE Trans. Signal Process., 68 (2020), pp. 2660-2669] (see equation 11) by incorporating moving-balls-approximation techniques [A. Auslender, R. Shefi, and M. Teboulle, SIAM J. Optim., 20 (2010), pp. 3232-3259] for solving these problems. We prove the subsequential convergence of our algorithm under mild conditions and establish global convergence of the whole sequence generated by our algorithm by imposing additional KL and differentiability assumptions on a specially constructed potential function. Finally, we perform numerical experiments on robust compressed sensing and basis pursuit denoising with residual error measured by \ell 2 norm or Lorentzian norm via solving the corresponding ℓ1/ℓ2 models by our algorithm. In this paper, we propose a novel hierarchical generative model, named author-genre-topic model (AGTM), to perform satellite image annotation. Different from the existing author-topic model in which each author and topic are associated with the multinomial distributions over topics and words, in AGTM, each genre, author, and topic are associated with the multinomial distributions over authors, topics, and words, respectively. The bias of the distribution of the authors with respect to the topics can be rectified by incorporating the distribution of the genres with respect to the authors. Therefore, the classification accuracy of documents is improved when the information of genre is introduced. By representing the images with several visual words, the AGTM can be used for satellite image annotation. The labels of classes and scenes of the images correspond to the authors and the genres of the documents, respectively. The labels of classes and scenes of test images can be estimated, and the accuracy of satellite image annotation is improved when the information of scenes is introduced in the training images. As an alternative to the traditional pilot-aided orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), the time-domain pseudonoise (PN)-padded OFDM provides a higher spectral efficiency. However, the carrier frequency offset (CFO) attenuates peaks of the conventional PN correlation output, which limits the CFO estimation range of the OFDM synchronizer. An improved correlation is proposed in this letter to remove the CFO-induced amplitude attenuation of correlation peaks. For a synchronizer adopting the designed correlator, a larger range of CFO acquisition is obtained through using wider correlation windows with a smaller interval between them. The proposed method of CFO acquisition is verified in a digital terrestrial multimedia broadcast receiver, in which the synchronizer is able to acquire CFOs up to ±320 kHz in the DVB-T F1 channel.
