In this paper we introduce, according to one of the main ideas of $\tau$-tilting theory, the $\tau$-tilting Hochschild cohomology in degree one of a finite dimensional $k$-algebra $\la$, where $k$ is a field. We define the excess of $\la$ as the difference between the dimensions of the $\tau$-tilting Hochschild cohomology in degree one and the dimension of the usual Hochschild cohomology in degree one. One of the main results is that for a zero excess bound quiver algebra $\la=kQ/I$, the Hochschild cohomology in degree two $HH^2(\la) $ is isomorphic to the space of morphisms $\Hom_{kQ-kQ}(I/I^2, \la).$ This may be useful to determine when $HH^2(\la)=0$ for these algebras. We compute the excess for hereditary, radical square zero and monomial triangular algebras. For a bound quiver algebra $\la$, a formula for the excess of $\la$ is obtained. In this paper we define (special) GLIT classes and (special) GLIT algebras. We prove that GLIT algebras, which generalise Lat-Igusa-Todorov algebras, satisfy the finitistic dimension conjecture and give several properties and examples. In addition we show that special GLIT algebras are exactly those that have finite finitistic dimension. Lastly we study Morita algebras arising form a Morita context and give conditions for them to be (special) GLIT in terms of the algebras and bimodules used in their definition. As a consequence we obtain simple conditions for a triangular matrix algebra to be (special) GLIT and also prove that the tensor product of a GLIT K-algebra with a path algebra of a finite quiver without oriented cycles is GLIT., Comment: 20 pages

In this survey, we review the fundamental properties of the Igusa-Todorov functions, the $\phi$-dimension, the $\psi$-dimension and their generalizations.

We consider stratifying ideals of finite dimensional algebras in relation with Morita contexts. A Morita context is an algebra built on a data consisting of two algebras, two bimodules and two morphisms. For a strongly stratifying Morita context - or equivalently for a strongly stratifying ideal - we show that Han's conjecture holds if and only if it holds for the diagonal subalgebra. The main tool is the Jacobi-Zariski long exact sequence. One of the main consequences is that Han's conjecture holds for an algebra admitting a strongly (co-)stratifying chain whose steps verify Han's conjecture. If Han's conjecture is true for local algebras and an algebra admits a primitive strongly (co-)stratifying chain, then Han's conjecture holds for it., Comment: Some small change in the Introduction. Let $B\subset A$ be a left or right bounded extension of finite dimensional algebras. We use the Jacobi-Zariski long nearly exact sequence to show that $B$ satisfies Han's conjecture if and only if $A$ does, regardless if the extension splits or not. We provide conditions ensuring that an extension by arrows and relations is left or right bounded. Finally we give a structure result for extensions of an algebra given by a quiver and admissible relations, and examples of non split left or right bounded extensions., Comment: Updated version. For an extension of associative algebras $B\subset A$ over a field and an $A$-bimodule $X$, we obtain a Jacobi-Zariski long nearly exact sequence relating the Hochschild homologies of $A$ and $B$, and the relative Hochschild homology, all of them with coefficients in $X$. This long sequence is exact twice in three. In this paper we study a generalisation of the Igusa-Todorov functions which gives rise to a vast class of algebras satisfying the finitistic dimension conjecture. This class of algebras is called Lat-Igusa-Todorov and includes, among others, the Igusa-Todorov algebras (defined by J. Wei) and the self-injective algebras which in general are not Igusa-Todorov algebras. We provide a formula for the change of the dimension of the first Hoch\-schild cohomology vector space of bound quiver algebras when adding new arrows. For an abelian category $\mathcal{A}$, we define the category PEx($\mathcal{A}$) of pullback diagrams of short exact sequences in $\mathcal{A}$, as a subcategory of the functor category Fun($\Delta, \mathcal{A}$) for a fixed diagram category $\Delta$. For any object $M$ in ${\rm PEx}(\mathcal{A}),$ we prove the existence of a short exact sequence $0 {\to} K {\to} P {\to} M {\to} 0$ of functors, where the objects are in PEx($\mathcal{A}$) and $P(i) \in {\rm Proj(\mathcal{A})}$ for any $i \in \Delta$. As an application, we prove that if $(\mathcal{C}, \mathcal{D}, \mathcal{E})$ is a triple of syzygy finite classes of objects in $\mathrm{mod}\,\Lambda$ satisfying some special conditions, then $\Lambda$ is an Igusa-Todorov algebra. Finally, we study lower triangular matrix Artin algebras and determine in terms of their components, under reasonable hypothesis, when these algebras are syzygy finite or Igusa-Todorov.

We study homological properties of a family of algebras called toupie algebras. Our main objective is to obtain the Gerstenhaber structure of their Hochschild cohomology, with the purpose of describing the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology space, together with the Lie module structure of the whole Hochschild cohomology.

We develope the theory of the $\mathcal{E}$-relative Igusa-Todorov functions in an exact $ IT$-context $(\mathcal{C},\mathcal{E}).$ In the case when $\mathcal{C}=$mod$\, (\Lambda)$ is the category of finitely generated left $\Lambda$-modules, for an artin algebra $\Lambda,$ and $\mathcal{E}$ is the class of all exact sequences in $\mathcal{C},$ we recover the usual Igusa-Todorov functions. We use the setting of the exact structures and the Auslander-Solberg relative homological theory to generalise the original Igusa-Todorov's results. Furthermore, we introduce the $\mathcal{E}$-relative Igusa-Todorov dimension and also we obtain relationships with the relative global and relative finitistic dimensions and the Gorenstein homological dimensions.

In this paper we study the behaviour of the Igusa-Todorov functions for Artin algebras A with finite injective dimension, and Gorenstein algebras as a particular case. We show that the $\phi$-dimension and $\psi$-dimension are finite in both cases. Also we prove that monomial, gentle and cluster tilted algebras have finite $\phi$-dimension and finite $\psi$-dimension.

Let $\Lambda$ be an artin algebra and $\mathfrak{A}$ a two-sided idempotent ideal of $\Lambda$, that is, $\mathfrak{A}$ is the trace of a projective $\Lambda$-module $P$ in $\Lambda$. We consider the categories of finitely generated modules over the associated rings $\Lambda/\mathfrak{A}, \Lambda$ and $\Gamma=\mathrm{End}_{\Lambda}(P)^{op}$ and study the relationship between their homological properties via the Igusa-Todorov functions.

Let $A$ be an artinian algebra, and let $\mathcal{C}$ be a subcategory of mod$A$ that is closed under extensions. When $\mathcal{C}$ is closed under kernels of epimorphisms (or closed under cokernels of monomorphisms), we describe the smallest class of modules that filters $\mathcal{C}$. As a consequence, we obtain sufficient conditions for the finitistic dimension of an algebra over a field to be finite. We also apply our results to the torsion pairs. In particular, when a torsion pair is induced by a tilting module, we show that the smallest classes of modules that filter the torsion and torsion-free classes are completely compatible with the quasi-equivalences of Brenner and Butler., Comment: 22 pages

In the first part we study nearly Frobenius algebras. The concept of nearly Frobenius algebras is a generalization of the concept of Frobenius algebras. Nearly Frobenius algebras do not have traces, nor they are self-dual. We prove that the known constructions: direct sums, tensor, quotient of nearly Frobenius algebras admit natural nearly Frobenius structures. In the second part we study algebras associated to some families of quivers and the nearly Frobenius structures that they admit. As a main theorem, we prove that an indecomposable algebra associated to a bound quiver $(Q,I)$ with no monomial relations admits a non trivial nearly Frobenius structure if and only if the quiver is $\overrightarrow{\mb{A}_n}$ and I=0. We also present an algorithm that determines the number of independent nearly Frobenius structures for Gentle algebras without oriented cycles.

Let $\Gamma$ and $\Lambda$ be artin algebras such that $\Gamma$ is a split-by-nilpotent extension of $\Lambda$ by a two sided ideal $I$ of $\Gamma.$ Consider the so-called change of rings functors $G:={}_\Gamma\Gamma_\Lambda\otimes_\Lambda -$ and $F:={}_\Lambda \Lambda_\Gamma\otimes_\Gamma -.$ In this paper, we find the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a stratifying system $(\Theta,\leq)$ in $\modu\Lambda$ can be lifted to a stratifying system $(G\Theta,\leq)$ in $\modu\,(\Gamma).$ Furthermore, by using the functors $F$ and $G,$ we study the relationship between their filtered categories of modules and some connections with their corresponding standardly stratified algebras are stated. Finally, a sufficient condition is given for stratifying systems in $\modu\,(\Gamma)$ in such a way that they can be restricted, through the functor $F,$ to stratifying systems in $\modu\,(\Lambda).$

K. Igusa and G. Todorov introduced two functions $\phi$ and $\psi,$ which are natural and important homological measures generalising the notion of the projective dimension. These Igusa-Todorov functions have become into a powerful tool to understand better the finitistic dimension conjecture. In this paper, for an artin $R$-algebra $A$ and the Igusa-Todorov function $\phi,$ we characterise the $\phi$-dimension of $A$ in terms either of the bi-functors $\mathrm{Ext}^{i}_{A}(-, -)$ or Tor's bi-functors $\mathrm{Tor}^{A}_{i}(-,-).$ Furthermore, by using the first characterisation of the $\phi$-dimension, we show that the finiteness of the $\phi$-dimension of an artin algebra is invariant under derived equivalences. As an application of this result, we generalise the classical Bongartz's result as follows: For an artin algebra $A,$ a tilting $A$-module $T$ and the endomorphism algebra $B=\mathrm{End}_A(T)^{op},$ we have that $\mathrm{Fidim}\,(A)-\mathrm{pd}\,T\leq \mathrm{Fidim}\,(B)\leq \mathrm{Fidim}\,(A)+\mathrm{pd}\,T.$

In this paper, we introduce and study a class of algebras which we call ada algebras. An artin algebra is ada if every indecomposable projective and every indecomposable injective module lies in the union of the left and the right parts of the module category. We describe the Auslander-Reiten components of an ada algebra, showing in particular that its representation theory is entirely contained in that of its left and right supports, which are both tilted algebras. Also, we prove that an ada algebra over an algebraically closed field is simply connected if and only if its first Hochschild cohomology group vanishes.

We show that a right artinian ring $R$ is right self-injective if and only if $\psi(M)=0$ (or equivalently $\phi(M)=0$) for all finitely generated right $R$-modules $M$, where $\psi, \phi : \mod R \to \mathbb N$ are functions defined by Igusa and Todorov. We consider the bound quiver algebras whose ordinary quiver is that of a canonical algebra. We determine which of those algebras are hereditary, tilted, quasitilted, weakly shod or laura algebras.

We use the characteristic polynomial of the Coxeter matrix of an algebra to complete the combinatorial classification of piecewise hereditary algebras which Happel gave in terms of the trace of the Coxeter matrix. We also give a cohomological interpretation of the coefficients (other than the trace) of the characteristic polynomial of the Coxeter matrix of any finite dimensional algebra with finite global dimension.

Let $R$ be a finite dimensional $k$-algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$ and $\mathrm{mod} R$ be the category of all finitely generated left $R$-modules. For a given full subcategory $\mathcal{X}$ of $\mathrm{mod} R,$ we denote by $\pfd \mathcal{X}$ the projective finitistic dimension of $\mathcal{X}.$ That is, $\pfd \mathcal{X}:=\mathrm{sup} \{\pd X : X\in\mathcal{X} \text{and} \pd X<\infty\}.$ \ It was conjectured by H. Bass in the 60's that the projective finitistic dimension $\pfd (R):=\pfd (\mathrm{mod} R)$ has to be finite. Since then, much work has been done toward the proof of this conjecture. Recently, K. Igusa and J. Todorov defined a function $\Psi:\mathrm{mod} R\to \Bbb{N},$ which turned out to be useful to prove that $\pfd (R)$ is finite for some classes of algebras. In order to have a different approach to the finitistic dimension conjecture, we propose to consider a class of full subcategories of $\mathrm{mod} R$ instead of a class of algebras, namely to take the class of categories $\F(\theta)$ of $\theta$-filtered $R$-modules for all stratifying systems $(\theta,\leq)$ in $\mathrm{mod} R.$

We show that the main results of Happel-Rickard-Schofield (1988) and Happel-Reiten-Smalo (1996) on piecewise hereditary algebras are coherent with the notion of group action on an algebra.
