11. Tracking failure process of XLPE-silicon rubber interface under impulse voltage.

Abstract

XLPE-silicon rubber interface is the weakest part of cable system. Dielectric breakdown called tracking failure of the interface often occurs. The failure endangers the reliability of power delivery. Massive application of power electronics easily causes over voltage or high electric field of impulse in power system, and leads to discharge or tracking failure of the interface. Therefore, it is very important to investigate the effect of impulse voltage on the tracking failure. In this paper, interface was set up by pressing together a slice of XLPE and a slice of transparent silicon rubber. High impulse voltage was applied on a pair of needle-plate electrodes which was sandwiched at the interface with their insulation distance of 10 mm. The discharge light and carbonization from discharge to the failure were recorded with a digital video recorder and then analyzed. As comparison of impulse voltage, tracking failure under AC voltage was also tested. The comparison results show that impulse over voltage leads to a short time of electric discharge of interface and produces lees heat energy. Tracking failure occurs difficultly. However, AC voltage has a longer time of over voltage in each cycle, which easily leads to arc discharge and produces a large amount of heat energy and easily causes tracking failure. It is supposed that once impulse over voltage initiates interface discharge when AC voltage is applied, interface tracking failure easily occurs. Abstract

Abstract: The inorganic crystal scintillator CsI(Tl) has been used for low energy neutrino and Dark Matter experiments, where the intrinsic radiopurity is an issue of major importance. Low-background data were taken with a CsI(Tl) crystal array at the Kuo-Sheng Reactor Neutrino Laboratory. The pulse shape discrimination capabilities of the crystal, as well as the temporal and spatial correlations of the events, provide powerful means of measuring the intrinsic radiopurity of 137Cs as well as the 235U, 238U and 232Th series. The event selection algorithms are described, with which the decay half-lives of 218Po, 214Po, 220Rn, 216Po and 212Po were derived. The measurements of the contamination levels, their concentration gradients with the crystal growth axis, and the uniformity among different crystal samples, are reported. The radiopurity in the 238U and 232Th series are comparable to those of the best reported in other crystal scintillators. Significant improvements in measurement sensitivities were achieved, similar to those from dedicated massive liquid scintillator detector. This analysis also provides in situ measurements of the detector performance parameters, such as spatial resolution, quenching factors, and data acquisition dead time. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

21. Ultraviolet electroluminescence at room temperature from a pn junction of heteroepitaxial diamond film by CVD

Abstract

The ultraviolet emission from a pn junction of heteroepitaxial diamond film was investigated. Diamond films were deposited on Si(100) by microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition. B-doped and P-doped layers were formed by trimethylboron and phosphine as impurity source gasses. The properties of p- and n-type layers were characterized by SEM, SIMS, Raman spectroscopy and Hall measurements. The experimental results showed that the current–voltage (I–V) characteristics of the pn junction exhibited good rectifying properties. A sharp emission peak at 235 nm was observed at 22 V for 9 mA at room temperature. Broad A-band emission in the visible region also appeared simultaneously.
