The whole genome sequence of a hospital infection agent, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia SCAID WND1-2022 (370), is reported. Raw PacBio generated reads and the genome sequence were deposited at NCBI under BioProject PRJNA754843. The genome comprises two replicons: 4,880,425 bp long chromosome comprising 4524 proteins and functional RNA coding genes and 38,606 bp long plasmid containing 40 CDS. Both replicons were methylated at third cytosine residues of ACCTC motifs. The taxonomic provenance of SCAID WND1-2022 (370) was determined by calculating sequence similarity to the reference genomes at NCBI that showed the highest 97.35% identity to S. maltophilia ISMMS4. Many antibiotic resistance and virulence genes were identified on the chromosome of S. maltophilia SCAID WND1-2022 (370), which include multiple efflux pumps, beta-lactamases, and genes involved in biofilm formation. The plasmid sequence was dissimilar to any known plasmid and seemingly was acquired from a distant microorganism. Plasmid-born genes possibly contributed to the virulence of the pathogens, but not to its drug resistance.

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is the most commonly used bone void filler in orthopedic surgery. However, the biocompatibility and radiopacity of PMMA are insufficient for such applications. In addition to insufficient biocompatibility, the microbial infection of medical implants is one of the frequent causes of failure in bone reconstruction. In the present work, the preparation of a novel PMMA-based hydroxyapatite/ZnFe2O4/ZnO composite with heterophase ZnFe2O4/ZnO NPs as an antimicrobial agent was described. ZnFe2O4/ZnO nanoparticles were produced using the electrical explosion of zinc and iron twisted wires in an oxygen-containing atmosphere. This simple, highly productive, and inexpensive nanoparticle fabrication approach could be readily adapted to different applications. From the findings, the presented composite material showed significant antibacterial activity (more than 99% reduction) against P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, and MRSA, and 100% antifungal activity against C. albicans, as a result of the combined use of both ZnO and ZnFe2O4. The composite showed excellent biocompatibility against the sensitive fibroblast cell line 3T3. The more-than-70% cell viability was observed after 1–3 days incubation of the sample. The developed composite material could be a potential material for the fabrication of 3D-printed implants.

The article analyzes the managerial innovation of the Russian government on a new type of territorial management of the Arctic macroregion - support zones of development. The authors present an overview of the mineral deposits developed and planned for development within the boundaries of the Kola Peninsula and investment projects of the largest mining companies of the Murmansk region and, above all, the project “Kola Chemical and Technological Cluster” in accordance with the requirements de-veloped by the federal regulator for forming mineral resource centers in support zones of development in the Arctic Particular attention is paid to the deposits of strategic and scarce minerals attractive for private investors. They will not require significant expenditures from regional authorities and local self-governments for development activities or any other methods of the state support and are socially significant for the region. The authors also discuss methodical approaches to management decisions when selecting the most efficient projects for implementing, the goals of socio-economic development and ensuring the ecological safety in the Arctic region under the global climate changes. Basing on the draft federal law “On the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation”, it was concluded that the mineral resource center of the Murmansk region was not likely to be included in the pilot project in 2018-2020 to form the Kola support zone of development in the Arctic. Proposals on harmonizing the requirements for registering applications of the Russian Arctic regions for forming the mineral resource center of the Kola support zone with the order on inclusion of mineral reserves in the state balance list. The authors justified methodology for developing investment projects and the procedures for their state comprehensive and environmental assessments. Some proposals for enhancing the efficiency of activities of applicants and participants in the support zone are made.

The purpose – The purpose of the study is to conduct a regional survey in tourist companies in Southwestern Bulgaria for examining some key factors for building/forming a healthy nutrition environment. Design – The special focus is given to analysis of the key factors for creating healthy nutrition environment in restaurants. Methodology – A cross sectional survey conducted including 34 respondents from 120 operating hotels with restaurants in Southwestern Bulgaria and 30 independent restaurants in Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil and Samokov – the three main towns in the area. The level of knowledge on healthy nutrition and healthy foods was assessed using a 5-rank scale and the healthy practices was conducted in the aspects: availability of healthy options, point-of-purchase information to facilitate healthy choices and promotion and communication of healthy foods. Approach- Implementation of healthy eating practice is studied in restaurants as the restaurant is one of the most important public places that form a healthy nutrition environment and create conditions for implementation of initiatives to support healthy food choices. Findings – It is indicated that the management staff of the surveyed tourist companies shows good level of knowledge and awareness on healthy nutrition issues. Despite good theoretical knowledge, however, the implementation of healthy practices in the restaurant business is insufficiently developed. There is no clear concept for introduction of healthy eating practice in restaurants and there is no active communication with the client in this regard either. The main conclusion focuses on the need of collaboration between nutrition specialists, academic institutions in tourism, and restaurant and hotel entrepreneurs to implement the principles of healthy eating in out-of-home settings. The originality of this research – The originality of the study lies in the fact that for the first time in Bulgaria the preconditions for the formation of a healthy environment in restaurants are explored.

This article addresses whether the new Western paradigm for nature protection, combining conservation and local development, could serve as a model for nature protection in Russia, and for Russia’s High North in particular. The article introduces the new paradigm of protected areas and the Russian protected area (PA) system. Three different types of PAs in the Murmansk Oblast are then presented, focusing on the role protected areas can play in terms of local development. The new paradigm has been embraced in the West, but the dominant form of PA in Russia is still the strictly protected areas – zapovedniks - which do not allow any form of economic activity including nature-based tourism. The number of national parks and nature parks in Russia is slowly increasing, but to establish and develop these forms of PAs suited to promote local develop- ment is challenging. The situation in the Murmansk Oblast illustrates problems such as conflict of interest between different stakeholders, lack of support from the authorities – most notably at Federal level – and bureaucratic hindrances including the system for leasing of land as well as weak tourism infrastructure and competence. However, local “park enthusiasm,” a growing number of tourists and new governmental strategies may contribute to local development in the years to come.
