Abstract

In a PN junction, the separation between positive and negative charges leads to diode transport. In the past few years, the intrinsic diode transport in noncentrosymmetric polar conductors has attracted great interest, because it suggests novel nonlinear applications and provides a symmetry-sensitive probe of Fermi surface. Recently, such studies have been extended to noncentrosymmetric superconductors, realizing the superconducting diode effect. Here, we show that, even in a centrosymmetric crystal without directional charge separation, the spins of an antiferromagnet (AFM) can generate a spatial directionality, leading to an AFM diode effect. We observe large second-harmonic transport in a nonlinear electronic device enabled by the compensated AFM state of even-layered MnBi2Te4. We also report a novel electrical sum-frequency generation (SFG), which has been rarely explored in contrast to the well-known optical SFG in wide-gap insulators. We demonstrate that the AFM enables an in-plane field-effect transistor and harvesting of wireless electromagnetic energy. The electrical SFG establishes a powerful method to study nonlinear electronics built by quantum materials. Abstract

The convergence of topology and correlations represents a highly coveted realm in the pursuit of novel quantum states of matter. Introducing electron correlations to a quantum spin Hall (QSH) insulator can lead to the emergence of a fractional topological insulator and other exotic time-reversal-symmetric topological order, not possible in quantum Hall and Chern insulator systems. However, the QSH insulator with quantized edge conductance remains rare, let alone that with significant correlations. In this work, we report a novel dual QSH insulator within the intrinsic monolayer crystal of TaIrTe4, arising from the interplay of its single-particle topology and density-tuned electron correlations. At charge neutrality, monolayer TaIrTe4 demonstrates the QSH insulator that aligns with single-particle band structure calculations, manifesting enhanced nonlocal transport and quantized helical edge conductance. Interestingly, upon introducing electrons from charge neutrality, TaIrTe4 only shows metallic behavior in a small range of charge densities but quickly goes into a new insulating state, entirely unexpected based on TaIrTe4's single-particle band structure. This insulating state could arise from a strong electronic instability near the van Hove singularities (VHS), likely leading to a charge density wave (CDW). Remarkably, within this correlated insulating gap, we observe a resurgence of the QSH state, marked by the revival of nonlocal transport and quantized helical edge conduction. Our observation of helical edge conduction in a CDW gap could bridge spin physics and charge orders. Abstract

Diode effects are of great interest for both fundamental physics and modern technologies. Electrical diode effects (nonreciprocal transport) have been observed in Weyl systems. Optical diode effects arising from the Weyl fermions have been theoretically considered but not probed experimentally. Here, we report the observation of a nonlinear optical diode effect (NODE) in the magnetic Weyl semimetal CeAlSi, where the magnetization introduces a pronounced directionality in the nonlinear optical second-harmonic generation (SHG). We show demonstrate a six-fold change of the measured SHG intensity between opposite propagation directions over a bandwidth exceeding 250 meV. Supported by density-functional theory, we establish the linearly dispersive bands emerging from Weyl nodes as the origin of this broadband effect. We further demonstrate current-induced magnetization switching and thus electrical control of the NODE. Abstract

Quantum geometry - the geometry of electron Bloch wavefunctions - is central to modern condensed matter physics. Due to the quantum nature, quantum geometry has two parts, the real part quantum metric and the imaginary part Berry curvature. The studies of Berry curvature have led to countless breakthroughs, ranging from the quantum Hall effect in 2DEGs to the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in ferromagnets. However, in contrast to Berry curvature, the quantum metric has rarely been explored. Here, we report a new nonlinear Hall effect induced by quantum metric by interfacing even-layered MnBi2Te4 (a PT-symmetric antiferromagnet (AFM)) with black phosphorus. This novel nonlinear Hall effect switches direction upon reversing the AFM spins and exhibits distinct scaling that suggests a non-dissipative nature. Like the AHE brought Berry curvature under the spotlight, our results open the door to discovering quantum metric responses. Moreover, we demonstrate that the AFM can harvest wireless electromagnetic energy via the new nonlinear Hall effect, therefore enabling intriguing applications that bridges nonlinear electronics with AFM spintronics., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures and a Supplementary Materials with 66 pages, 4 figures and 3 tables. Abstract

Advanced microscopy and/or spectroscopy tools play indispensable role in nanoscience and nanotechnology research, as it provides rich information about the growth mechanism, chemical compositions, crystallography, and other important physical and chemical properties. However, the interpretation of imaging data heavily relies on the "intuition" of experienced researchers. As a result, many of the deep graphical features obtained through these tools are often unused because of difficulties in processing the data and finding the correlations. Such challenges can be well addressed by deep learning. In this work, we use the optical characterization of two-dimensional (2D) materials as a case study, and demonstrate a neural-network-based algorithm for the material and thickness identification of exfoliated 2D materials with high prediction accuracy and real-time processing capability. Further analysis shows that the trained network can extract deep graphical features such as contrast, color, edges, shapes, segment sizes and their distributions, based on which we develop an ensemble approach topredict the most relevant physical properties of 2D materials. Finally, a transfer learning technique is applied to adapt the pretrained network to other applications such as identifying layer numbers of a new 2D material, or materials produced by a different synthetic approach. Our artificial-intelligence-based material characterization approach is a powerful tool that would speed up the preparation, initial characterization of 2D materials and other nanomaterials and potentially accelerate new material discoveries.

Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between the distributions of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitutional types of patients with mammary cancer and their anxiety and depression status. Methods A total of 507 patients with mammary cancer who were admitted and treated in Yunnan Cancer Hospital from July 2019 to July 2020 were selected. Baseline data were collected through questionnaires, and the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire (CCMQ) was used to identify their TCM constitutions. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used for assessing the anxiety and depression status of patients. Results Totally 398 patients with mammary cancer were screened. Most of the mammary cancer patients had normal constitution, 136(34. 17%) in total, followed by 80(20. 10%) cases with yang-deficiency constitution, 39(9. 80%) cases with yin-deficiency constitution and 38 (9. 55%)cases with qi depression constitution. There were 75(18. 84%) patients with depression and 89(22. 36%) patients with anxiety. Patients who had normal constitutional types were control group. Except for dampness-heat constitution and yang-deficiency constitution, the other six biased constitutions were all risk factors for the onset of depression. Abstract

Background: The aim of this study was to explore the microbial variations and biomarkers in the oral environment of patients with persistent pulmonary nodules (pPNs) and to reveal the potential biological functions of the salivary microbiota in pPNs. Materials and methods: This study included a total of 483 participants (141 healthy controls and 342 patients with pPNs) from June 2022 and January 2024. Saliva samples were subjected to sequencing of the V3–V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene to assess microbial diversity and differential abundance. Seven advanced machine learning algorithms (logistic regression, support vector machine, multi-layer perceptron, naïve Bayes, random forest, gradient boosting decision tree, and LightGBM) were utilized to evaluate performance and identify key microorganisms, with fivefold cross-validation employed to ensure robustness. The Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) algorithm was employed to explain the contribution of these core microbiotas to the predictive model. Additionally, the PICRUSt2 algorithm was used to predict the microbial functions. Results: The salivary microbial composition in pPNs group showed significantly lower α- and β-diversity compared to healthy controls. A high-accuracy LightGBM model was developed, identifying six core genera—Fusobacterium, Solobacterium, Actinomyces, Porphyromonas, Atopobium, and Peptostreptococcus—as pPNs biomarkers. Additionally, a visualization pPNs risk prediction system was developed. The immune responses and metabolic activities differences in salivary microbiota between the patients with pPNs and healthy controls were revealed. Conclusions: This study highlights the potential clinical applications of the salivary microbiota for enable earlier detection and targeted interventions, offering significant promise for advancing clinical management and improving patient outcomes in pPNs. The quality of cleaning and disinfection of medical apparatus package collected from district-level CSSD was evaluated before and after implementation of CQI. The knowledge level and satisfaction of nursing staff from district-level CSSD were assessed. Results The rates of qualified preprocessing, cleaning, packaging and storage in CSSD after implementation of CQI were higher than those before implementation of CQI(P＜0. 01). The rate of CSSD-related knowledge mastery and total satisfaction rate after the implementation of CQI were higher than those before implementation of CQI (P＜0. 01). Conclusion The application of CQI in the management of district-level Central Sterile Supply Department can ensure the quality of equipment cleaning and sterilization, improve the work efficiency and the overall level of infection prevention and control of medical institutions in the region. (目的 探讨持续质量改进(CQI)在促进区级消毒供应中心区域合作发展的应用效果。方法 2020年度基于医院的区域化消毒供应中心实施CQI管理。分别于CQI实施前和实施后抽取各合作基层医疗机构送至医院消毒供应中心再处理物品240件, 比较2019年1月—12月(实施前)及2020年1月—12月(实施后)消毒供应中心器械管理质量, 评价区域化消毒供应涉及医护人员消毒供应理论水平和满意度情况。结果 CQI实施后消毒供应中心器械预处理合格率、清洗合格率、包装合格率、存储合格率均高于实施前, 差异有统计学意义(P＜0. 01)。CQI实施后医护人员对消毒供应理论知识及流程掌握度及满意度均较CQI实施前提升, 差异有统计学意义(P＜0. 01)。结论 在区级消毒供应中心管理中应用CQI, 可以确保器械清洗、灭菌质量, 提高工作效率, 整体提升区域内医疗机构感染防控水平, 确保患者安全。)
