In mathematics, students' abilities to make transformations between mathematical representations are fundamental. The recent implementation of digital technologies, such as Dynamic Geometry Environments (DGEs), have changed students' access to mathematical representations by providing a variety of different representations, available just by pressing a button. Students use of a DGE may change their mathematical communication to become more dynamic and active. However, it is not clear how the use of DGEs and the change in communication style relate to more epistemological aspects of students' mathematical work. This study, therefore, investigates the interplay between students' dynamic mathematical communication and their transformations of mathematical representations when using a DGE from a competency perspective. Based on analyses of instances of lower secondary school students' dynamic mathematical communication, findings indicate that students' mathematical communication reflect the new ways of engaging with mathematical representations when using a DGE. Hence, the communication becomes dynamic. Theoretically, the complexity of having "continuous" transformations of mathematical representations may reduce the readiness of the mathematical communication competency. Self-confidence and cognitive style are important variables that influence the behavior of students in the academic field, the continued development of academic abilities, how learning is carried out, and how they interact in classroom activities. Learning activities will be expected more effective because all of the learning steps going to be attractive and get to reach the learning achievements if students have good self-confidence. So, all of these things are related to mathematical communication ability. The data on students' mathematical communication ability scores that were influenced by two factors, the level of self-confidence and different cognitive styles, were analyzed by the experimental design carried out in this research was a 3x2 Completely Randomized Factorial Design. The observation data were analyzed statistically with the F-test at a significance level of 5%. From the test of between-subjects effects, the output data was on the ANOVA table. We can get the conclusion that there was factors interaction which can be seen by p-value (Sig.) < α = 0.05, which means rejected H0. There was an effect of interaction between self-confidence with cognitive style significantly to mathematical communication ability

Math problem-solving skills among students are still lacking. This is demonstrated by kids' inability to comprehend inquiries, offer proper responses, or convey ideas. Low communication ability can also result from instruction that downplays the importance of students' ability to solve problems. This study aimed to determine whether the increase in the mathematical communication skills of students who received problem-based learning models was better than that of conventional learning. Moreover, to find out how students' attitudes toward problem-based learning models. This research method is quasi-experimental, and the research design is a Nonequivalent control group design. The experimental class gets learning with the problem-based learning model, and the control class with conventional learning. The population of this study was all students of class VII SMPN 2 Kota Mojokerto. The samples used were two classes of five selected by purposive sampling technique. To obtain research data, pretest, posttest, and mathematical communication skills were used using the independent sample t-test. Based on the results of data analysis, 1) improving students' mathematical communication ability using problem-based learning models is better than students using conventional learning; 2) students' attitude towards learning mathematics using the problem-based learning model is positive. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII SMPN 2 Kota Mojokerto, Adapun sampel yang digunakan sebanyak dua kelas dari lima kelas dipilih dengan Teknik purposive sampling. Untuk mendapatkan data hasil penelitian digunakan pretest, posttest, kemampuan komunikasi matematis menggunakan independent Sample t-Test. One of the mathematical skills that students must have been mathematical communication skills. Mathematical communication skills enable students to convey their understanding of mathematical concepts. The process of expressing mathematical ideas verbally or in writing helps students understand the material more deeply. Other previous research only described the effectiveness of software on mathematical communication skills, this study aims to analyze students' mathematical communication skills in 21st century learning when solving financial math problems with the help of desmos. This research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The results showed that the mathematical communication skills of class 11 SIJA B of 12 students belonged to the medium category. Desmos media has the potential to improve students' mathematical communication skills. A total of 2 students in the high mathematical communication skills category with a percentage of 16.7% were able to master all indicators of mathematical communication skills, 8 students in the moderate mathematical communication skills category with a percentage of 66.6% and some students were able to master all indicators of mathematical communication skills but were still lacking perfect, and 2 students in the low mathematical communication skills category with a percentage of 16.7% were only able to master one indicator, namely the second indicator of mathematical communication skills. The implications of this research are to investigate effective teaching methods to improve students' mathematical communication skills. Integrate tasks and activities that encourage mathematical communication in learning materials and further explore how technology can be applied to improve mathematical communication skills. Salah satu keterampilan matematika yang harus dimiliki peserta didik adalah kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Ketrampilan komunikasi matematis memungkinkan siswa untuk menyampaikan pemahaman mereka tentang konsep matematika. Proses mengungkapkan ide-ide matematis secara verbal atau tertulis membantu siswa memahami materi dengan lebih mendalam. Penelitian lain sebelumnya hanya mendeskripsikan keefektifan software terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis, penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dalam pembelajaran abad-21 saat menyelesaikan soal matematika keuangan berbantuan desmos. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis kelas 11 SIJA B dari 12 peserta didik tergolong pada kategori sedang. Media desmos berpotensi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis peserta didik. Sebanyak 2 siswa pada kategori kemampuan komunikasi matematis tinggi dengan persentase 16,7% mampu menguasai semua indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis, 8 siswa pada kategori kemampuan komunikasi matematis sedang dengan persentase 66,6% dan beberapa siswa mampu menguasai semua indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis namun masih kurang sempurna, dan 2 siswa pada kategori kemampuan komunikasi matematis rendah dengan persentase 16,7% hanya mampu menguasai satu indikator , yaitu indikator kedua dari kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Implikasi penelitian ini agar menyelidiki metode pengajaran yang efektif untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan komunikasi matematis siswa. Mengintegrasikan tugas dan aktivitas yang mendorong komunikasi matematis dalam materi pembelajaran dan lebih mengeksplorasi bagaimana teknologi dapat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan ketrampilan komunikasi matematis.

Self-proficiency, distinct from self-efficacy, is a more comprehensive dimension in assessing students’ abilities. Moreover, the TAI cooperative learning model is believed to be relevant in enhancing self-proficiency, as well as other mathematical ability dimensions, particularly in Statistics course. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the enhancement of self-proficiency, mathematical problem-solving and mathematical communication by implementing the TAI (Team-Assisted Individualization) Cooperative Learning Model in the context of Non-Parametric Statistics, which is a core undergraduate statistics course. A quasi-experimental approach with purposive sampling, which comprised 72 observation samples divided into control and experimental groups, was used to conduct this study. Evaluation instruments consisted of mathematical problem-solving test, mathematical communication test, and self-proficiency test, along with observation sheets. Furthermore, these statistical analysis tools were used included the Paired Sample t-test, the Independent Sample t-test, as well as the ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance). The results, obtained through various assessments that examined mean differences and comprehensive statistical analyses, comprised both independent and dependent sample evaluations. The evaluations consistently showed substantial increase in problem-solving ability, communication skills, and self-proficiency in the cohort subjected to the experimental conditions, surpassing those observed in the control group. The ANCOVA estimations further validated the meaningful effect of the teaching strategy on the enhancement of the tested aspects. In conclusion, this study implied that the implementation of TAI learning model effectively enhanced all three objectively and measurably assessed aspects, particularly in the context of non-parametric statistics course.

This meta-analysis aims to determine the effect of ethnomathematics learning on students' mathematical communication skills. Data from 28 research studies, including sample size, standard deviation, mean for both experimental and control groups, and other information, were collected using descriptive analysis. Data analysis techniques used meta-analysis on forest plots, with analytical techniques including heterogeneity testing, calculation of effect sizes, calculation of summary effects using random effects models, and identification of publication bias. The results showed that ethnomathematics-based learning improves students' mathematical communication skills. The effectiveness of ethnomathematical and conventional learning on students' mathematical communication skills is combined reliably. Changes in the education implementation system during the Covid-19 pandemic force students to adapt quickly. This adaptation occurs because online learning limits teachers ' ability to monitor the overall learning carried out by students. Therefore, in the implementation, students must have Self-Regulated Learning to manage their learning activities independently and analyze their learning needs. In addition, Self-Regulated Learning is also able to provide support for improving various abilities, for example, mathematical communication. This study aimed to determine whether Self-Regulated Learning affects students’ mathematical communication skills. The research method used is correlational with a sample of 31 students in grade IX of a junior high school in Serang City. The results of this study indicate that Self-Regulated Learning affects students' mathematical communication skills, with a coefficient of determination equal to 21%. This research can inform educators that Self-Regulated Learning influences students' mathematical communication abilities, so educators must design learning to help improve students' Self-Regulated Learning. Perubahan sistem pelaksanaan pendidikan pada kondisi pandemi Covid-19 memaksa siswa untuk beradaptasi secara cepat. Adaptasi tersebut terjadi karena pembelajaran secara online memberikan batasan bagi guru untuk memantau keseluruhan pembelajaran yang dilakukan oleh siswa. Oleh karena itu, dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran secara online siswa harus memiliki Self-Regulated Learning agar mampu mengatur kegiatan belajarnya secara mandiri dan mampu menganalisis kebutuhan belajarnya. Selain memberi dukungan yang besar terhadap pelaksanaan pembelajaran secara online, Self-Regulated Learning juga mampu memberikan dukungan terhadap peningkatan berbagai kemampuan, salah satunya adalah komunikasi matematis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh Self-Regulated Learning terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Metode korelasional digunakan dengan sampel penelitian sebanyak 31 murid kelas IX di salah satu SMP di Kota Serang. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan Self-Regulated Learning berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dengan koefisien determinasi yaitu sebesar 21%. Penelitian ini dapat memberikan informasi kepada pendidik bahwa Self-Regulated Learning berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa, sehingga pendidik harus merancang pembelajaran yang dapat membantu meningkatkan Self-Regulated Learning siswa.

The purpose of this research is to 1). Knowing that there are differences in students' mathematical communication abilities with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model assisted by GeoGebra Software and conventional learning models. 2) Find out which learning model is better between the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model assisted by GeoGebra Software and the conventional learning model for students' mathematical communication abilities. 3) To determine the influence of student activity on students' mathematical communication skills who use the PBL (Problem Based Learning) learning model assisted by GeoGebra Software. 4) To find out whether students' mathematical communication skills who use the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model assisted by GeoGebra Software achieve individual or classical mastery. The research method used in this research is the Quasi Experimental method. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling technique. The instruments for collecting data in this research are Pre-test and Post-test. . The population of this study were class XI students of SMAN 1 Wedung. The N-Gain test is the data analysis technique used in this research. The results of this research show that the N-Gain score in the experimental class (PBL method assisted by GeoGebra) is 62%. Meanwhile, the N-Gain score in the control class (conventional method) was 54%. In other words, it can be concluded that the mathematical communication skills of students who received PBL learning assisted by GeoGebra were significantly more effective than students who received learning using the conventional method

This research aims to analyze and describe the role of the Math-Talk learning community in improving students' mathematical communication. A qualitative approach was adopted in this study, which involved observing the learning process related to patterns, sequences, and number sequences through the Math-Talk learning community method. The written test involved 34 grade VIII junior high school (SMP) students at a public school in Bandung, Indonesia. The results show that the learning components of the Math-Talk learning community, namely: (a) questioning techniques; (b) explanation of mathematical thinking; (c) sources of mathematical ideas; and (d) responsibility for learning, have the potential to improve mathematical communication skills in students. The results of this study show the importance of implementing the Math-Talk method in the school mathematics curriculum to facilitate better and more effective mathematics communication between students and enrich their mathematics learning experience.

Komunikasi matematis dan kemandirian belajar siswa sangatlah penting dalam pembelajaran matematika. Ketika siswa memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan kemandirian belajar yang tinggi, maka tujuan pembelajaran di kelas akan mudah untuk dicapai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis hubungan antara komunikasi matematis siswa dan kemandirian belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP Alkarim kelas VIII. Analisis data menggunakan metode mixed method (kualitatif dan kuantitatif). Data diperoleh dari tes tertulis dan wawancara kepada siswa. Hasil analisis data menggunakan uji kendall’s tau diperoleh nilai sig (2-tailed) 0,013 dan nilai correlation coefficient bernilai positif sebesar 0,554, dapat disimpulkan kemandirian belajar siswa memiliki hubungan yang kuat dan signifikan dengan komunikasi matematis siswa. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh rata-rata skor kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa adalah 55,4 dan rata-rata skor kemandirian belajar siswa adalah 63,9. Dari 2 siswa yang memiliki kemandirian belajar yang tinggi, ditemukan bahwa masing-masing siswa memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematis di kategori yang berbeda yaitu, kategori tinggi dan kategori sedang.  Berbeda halnya, dengan siswa yang memiliki kemandirian belajar dengan kategori sedang, berdampak pada kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang berada dalam kategori sedang juga. Selanjutnya, siswa dengan kemandirian belajar rendah memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematis yang berkategori rendah juga.

Teacher’s lack of interactive learning media and abstract mathematics learning materials results in low mathematical communication skills as indicated by students' answers in solving math problems. Flipbook media is one of the interactive and interesting learning media in learning mathematics which accommodates the principles of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. This study aims to determine the procedure for developing RME-based flipbook media and to determine students' mathematical communication skills after using the media developed on circle material. This type of research is R & D (Research & Development) research using the 4D development model (Define-Design-Develop-Disseminate). The subjects in this study were 3 mathematics teachers, 6 students taken from each class VIII outside class VIII-E, 2 material experts, 2 media experts and 32 students from class VIII-E SMPN 3 Banjar. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, questionnaires and tests. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative data analysis. Based on the analysis of the results of the mathematical communication ability test, as many as 31.25% of students showed a level of mathematical communication ability in the "high" category, as many as 43.75% of students showed a level of mathematical communication ability in the "medium" category as many as 25% of students shows the level of mathematical communication skills in the "low" category. It can be concluded that RME-based flipbook learning media is feasible and effective in students' mathematical communication skills. This research is a reference for teachers to make flipbooks using Flip PDF Professional software which can assist the learning process and further researchers can conduct research and development of flipbooks in collaboration with other software on different material and mathematical abilities

This study aims to use the GeoGebra application as a learning aid and ascertain the efficacy of learning videos in calculus education. Using a mathematical communication test, the research employs a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental technique to acquire data. This study’s sample is a second-year student enrolled at a Serang-Banten university. The sample is comprised of two divisions. One class is utilized for the control group of 25 pupils and another for the experimental group of 30. In the control group, students were only taught in an online learning environment using the Zoom Meet application without explaining GeoGebra-learning videos. The findings show differences in the increase in mathematical communication skills of students who study online using GeoGe-bra-learning videos (the experimental group) and those who get online learning without using GeoGebra- learning videos (the control group). In this study, we focus on self-disclosure, communicating mathematics, and infrastructure support in determining the ease of online learning for students of mathematics education study programs. The sample in this study were students (n=465) who were asked voluntarily to fill out an online questionnaire. Participants consisted of 335 female students (72%) and 130 male students (28%) from various universities in Indonesia. The data were analyzed quantitatively using structural equation modeling. The results of the path analysis show that the ease of online learning is influenced by self-disclosure, communicating mathematics, and infrastructure support. The R square results show that these factors influence 47%. Each path analysis shows that self-disclosure (r = 0.556 p= 0.000) and infrastructure support (r = 0.243 p = 0.000) have a significant positive relationship with the ease of online learning. Meanwhile, communicating mathematics (r = -0.025 p =0.507) has an insignificant negative relationship to the ease of online learning. Further research is needed to see how the impact of mathematical application support communicating mathematics in online learning.

This research aims to look into the growth and effectiveness of E-LKPD on the mathematical communication skills of seventh-grade junior high school students. The design research development study was used. This study is divided into two parts: preliminary (preliminary study and design of E-LKPD) and formative evaluation (evaluation and revision). The research subjects included 49 SMP Negeri 3 Ngamprah's class VIII students. The research instrument had interview sheets, expert validation sheets, observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and five questions about mathematical communication skills. Lines and angles were used in this study as the material. Data processing techniques in the development process use the Likert Scale type of measurement scale to calculate the percentage of each indicator with the help of Canva and test the effectiveness of the E-LKPD using Inferential Statistics with the Wilcoxon test with the help of SPSS. According to the study's findings, the feasibility of LKPD is Eligible. The study's results also show that an E-LKPD influences students' mathematical communication abilities, indicating that the developed E-LKPD has effectiveness.

This study aimed to investigate eighth-grade students' mathematical communication competency and mathematical literacy performance in a classroom experiment designed based on the mathematical modeling approach. Accordingly, a teaching experiment methodology was applied. Data were collected from three eighth-grade students through the Mathematical Communication Competency Measurement Tools, video recordings of the teaching episodes, student products, and clinical interviews before and after the teaching experiment. PISA mathematics proficiency level and communication competency level assessment schemes were used in the data analysis process. A deductive analysis was performed on the data collected through the clinical interviews, whereas a retrospective analysis was conducted to examine the data collected through teaching episodes. The results showed that the modeling-based teaching experiment helped develop the mathematical communication competency of all participating students. The results also showed that improving students' mathematical communication competencies increased their mathematical literacy performances. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate teachers' thoughts about the role of mathematical communication in special education. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with ten special education teachers responsible for teaching students with severe disabilities from various school levels. Data analysis used open coding to identify thematically common patterns. Results showed that special education teachers' thoughts on mathematical communication fell into six themes: (i) communicating mathematical ideas through embodiment, (ii) communicating mathematical ideas while considering cognitive competency, (iii) listening, speaking, reading, or writing mathematical language, (iv) developing positive attitudes towards using mathematical language, (v) communicating mathematical ideas through repetitions, and (vi) using mathematical language in other disciplines. Teachers have recognized that students with special educational needs require more time and effort to reach their full potential because their modes of mathematical communication can be particularly varied. Therefore, they discussed the concept of mathematical communication in special education from different perspectives and presented a number of approaches to it. This research aims to improve students' mathematical communication ability through interactive multimedia-based teaching materials to support the smooth running of learning activities, especially in online learning. The method used in this research is experimental, with the research design being a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group carried out at two universities, Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) and Universitas Pasir Pengaraian (UPP). The data from this study were collected through tests. The test questions given relate to communication ability. The sample of this research was prospective mathematics teacher students who contracted the Structure Algebra course at UIR (experimental class) and prospective mathematics teacher students at UPP (control class) in the 2021/2022 academic year. The data collection method used is a mathematical communication ability test and a statistical test processes the test result data. Normality test using Kolmogorov-Smirnov and homogeneity test using Levene and the T-test. Based on the T-test result, a significance value of 0.016 < 0.05 was obtained. It means that there is an increase in the mathematical communication ability of a student who receives learning using interactive multimedia-based teaching material.

Over the last ten years, many studies have discussed the effect of implementing the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approaches on students' mathematical communication ability. However, these studies show inconsistent results. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the RME learning approach, the effect of implementing the CTL approach, and the difference in the effect of implementing the RME learning approach compared to the CTL approach on students' mathematical communication ability. This research used a quantitative approach with a meta-analysis method. The search for research articles with publication years from 2012 to 2022 was carried out using several databases, namely DOAJ, ERIC, Google Scholar, IOP Publishing, Garuda Portal, Semantic Scholar, and national journals link. Using the PRISMA protocol, the authors obtained 15 research articles on RME and 14 research articles on CTL that met the inclusion criteria and could be used in this study. The results of this study showed that the implementation of the RME learning approach has a moderate influence (g = 0,820) on students' mathematical communication ability, and the implementation of the CTL approach has a strong influence (g = 1,017) on students' mathematical communication ability. There is no significant difference between the effect of the RME learning approach's implementation and the CTL approach's effect on students' mathematical communication ability (Q_value = 2,329, p_value = 0,127). Therefore, the RME and CTL learning approaches can be used as learning alternatives that aim to enhance students' mathematical communication ability.

The importance of mathematical justification in all classrooms is emphasized by reform movements in mathematics education. However, previous studies reveal that encouraging justification in mathematics classes is troblesome for mathematics teachers at all school levels. This present study is aimed to find out how justification help students to develop their mathematical understandings. To answer this question, we first determined the role of justification in teaching and learning process and how good students in justifying their answers. Design research was chosen as an appropriate mean to achive that goal. The study was conducted in a state university in Yogyakarta involving four students from fifty-one students as our focus group and one of researchers as a lecturer. Justification was the focus on this study and to promote it we chose RME as an approach that served as a learning environment. In this study, all data collected from classroom observation, group observation, students’ works, video recordings, field notes during teaching experiment, and students’ final writen test. Students’ works then analyzed using a justification rubric and describe thoroughly by considering other data collected during teaching learning process. The study revealed that there were some roles of justification in RME classroom, namely encouraged conceptual understanding, supported mathematical skill, promoted long lasting skill, and influenced social relationship. In this study, most students in our focus group have already made a good justification which was assessed by the points in the CLEAR rubric. Justification is a set of responses or responses that a person gives when asked to provide mathematical reasons for the results he makes. Justification can be used as a social process in which mathematical knowledge is explained, and systematically verified based on ideas, definitions, and properties that apply in mathematics such as representations used to display concepts. Research on justification in mathematics education has been carried out for a long time. This study aims to evaluate mathematics justification studies from articles published after 2016 and before April 2022 from ERIC and Google Scholar Databases. The key questions in this study are how these articles are distributed based on year publication, country, participant, mathematics subject, method, and how to support mathematical justification. This study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines including inclusion and exclusion criteria and then the data were extracted, resulting in 30 studies to be reviewed. The result shows that by year of publication the articles fluctuation distributed, based on country no data from Africa and Australia was found in the databases, the participant is mostly preservice mathematics teachers, whereas only one publication studied in high school students, geometry is the most mathematics subject used in research since every grade contain this material, the method is frequently given by qualitative research with various approach, how to supporting mathematical justification is also discussed.

Based on the interview with the mathematics teacher in grade 9 of Junior High School in Malang, learning media used in school was limited, especially in material of transformation. This cause the students have difficulty communicating mathematical ideas when solving the problems. The purpose of this study is to develop an e-module learning media in the form of a flipbook to improve students’ mathematical communication skills. Research and development of the media was carried out using the ADDIE model. The results of the validation test that carried out by the lecturers and teachers obtained a very valid category value. The results of the effectiveness test using the N-Gain value is 0.66 included in the medium improvement category, it means that mathematical communication skills increase after being given flipbook learning media. The results of the practicality test received a positive response with an average of 79%. Based on the results of the validation, effectiveness, and practicality tests, it can be concluded that the development of flipbook learning media is valid, effective, and practical to use in teaching and learning activities to improve students’ mathematical communication skills.

Epistemological beliefs simultaneously affect mathematical communication skills. The higher the epistemological beliefs of a person's ability to formulate concepts, convey ideas, and hone ideas to convince others, the more mathematical communication skills will increase. This qualitative study uses three variables to describe mathematical communication and students' epistemological beliefs on linear system material. The subjects in this study were students who had epistemological beliefs from the test results, and students who were taken were students who were able to meet the indicators of epistemological confidence. Data collection techniques are tests, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that students have beliefs that do not change or remain in solving test questions. The method used is more consistent with the way of solving, which according to students, is easy to do, able to solve problems by multiplying exercises and repeating what has been learned, solving problems by following the steps and methods of completion taught by the teacher, students can estimate answers or problem solving because of problems The subject obtained is obtained from experience and observations in everyday life.

This qualitative case study analyzed how first year university mathematics students used words, images, and symbols to convey the same mathematical ideas. The study was located within the interpretivist paradigm and took naturalistic methodology. Twenty-six first year students were purposefully selected to participate in the study. Data was collected through analyzing students' assignments scripts followed by semistructured interviews. The study sought to answer the questions: How did the first-year university students' use of words, symbols and images to convey mathematical ideas. The data were analyzed using Lave and Wenger's situated learning and Seo 'mathematical communication theories. Data analysis focused on the structure and usage of symbols, images, and words to communicate mathematical ideas. The result of the study shows that the students experienced difficulties in using words, images, and symbols to communicate the same mathematical idea. There were contradicting meanings between images, words, and symbols usage in attempt to define same concept. It is recommended that encouraging students to wave between words, symbols, and images to communicate mathematical ideas will improve understanding of mathematical concepts. First year university mathematics teachers are encouraged to not only use one method of mathematical communication when defining concepts. Moreover, it is recommended that formal mathematics definition be used after students grasped the meaning of concepts using everyday day words and images. Communication skills are skills in conveying meaning in the form of ideas or information from one person to another through certain media and providing rational reasons for a statement, changing forms from verbal language into mathematical language, and illustrating mathematical ideas into descriptions. which is relevant. This study aims to describe students' communication skills with Realistik Mathematic Education (RME). Data collection techniques are (1) validation, (2) RME, (3) pre-test and post-test of mathematics communication skills, (4) analysis of mathematics communication skills tests, and (5) observation of student activities. This research finally resulted in the identification of students' communication skills based on indicators of mathematical communication skills, namely (a) Connecting real objects, pictures and diagrams into mathematical ideas, (b) Explaining ideas, situations and mathematical relations, in writing, (c) Stating everyday events. day in language or mathematical symbols. The identification stage is clarified in the category Very good, good, enough, not enough, not very bad. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Sipirok. To identify the increase in students' mathematical communication skills in every aspect, the t test was carried out. Based on the students' answers. The results showed that the students' mathematical communication skills with RME increased significantly by the value of t = 3.896 while t table = 1.685 so it could be concluded that the students' mathematical communication skills with RME were better. Mathematical communication is crucial in inclusive mathematics teaching and learning to convey mathematical symbols. However, teaching mathematical symbols to deaf students in inclusive classrooms has been a persistent challenge due to the lack of specialized sign language for mathematical expressions. Media, such as SPECOMATSO technology, can serve as a bridge to address this issue. This research focused on developing valid and practical SPECOMATSO technology to strengthen students’ literacy and facilitate the delivery of mathematical symbols, which previously posed difficulties for teachers in inclusive settings. The research combined the Alessi & Trollip and V-waterfall models, encompassing seven development stages: analysis, design, implementation, unit testing, integration testing, system testing, and acceptance testing. The research instruments included observation and interview guidelines, a product validation questionnaire, and a student response questionnaire. This study produces SPECOMATSO technology that is valid and practical for learning plane geometry and angles in mathematics. Although this development still needs improvement in fixative abilities, such as storage and editing functions, it is expected to strengthen digital literacy and stimulate mathematical communication among deaf students who face challenges related to their limited auditory capabilities.

Some research about identifying the differences between male and female students’ written communication skills has been done before. However, the previous research only focused on qualitative studies. Therefore, there is still a lack of empirical proof of the result. This study aims to test whether a significant difference exists between male and female students' written mathematical communication skills and identify their performance difficulties. The subjects were 14 male and 14 female students at the junior high school. The instrument was a test of mathematical communication skills on quadrilateral topics. The research method used was a mixed method with a sequential explanatory design. The data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U to measure the difference between male and female students’ written mathematical communication skills, and document analysis was conducted to analyze their difficulties in performing written mathematical communication. The results showed that even though there is no significant difference between written mathematical communication skills between male and female students, there is a significant difference when viewed from each indicator. In addition, the difficulties experienced by male and female students are difficulties expressing mathematical ideas using mathematical symbols, using facts and concepts to solve problems, and operating algebraic forms.

Mathematical communication skills are very important for students, especially for elementary school students. Students' communication skills in each student are always different, as are different learning styles for each student. The purpose of this study is to describe the mathematical communication process carried out by students in each type of learning style they have. The learning styles referred to refer to Honey-Mumford, namely; (1) Theoretical; (2) Pragmatic; (3) Activist; and (4) Reflective. The research was carried out at SDN 44 Ampenan, with the subjects being all of the fifth-grade students, totaling 39 students. Data collection was carried out by providing 2 instruments, namely a learning style questionnaire and math problems followed by semi-structured interviews to students who had finished. The results showed that the number of students with theoretical learning styles was the highest and students with active learning styles were the least. The results of the study also show that there are differences in mathematical communication in each learning style, but mathematical communication errors made by all types of learning styles are errors in writing formulas and conclusion sentences

This study aims to reveal the effectiveness of the use of an augmented reality-assisted physics e-module based on the local wisdom of the pedicab in improving mathematical communication and critical thinking abilities. The study used the 4D model. Empirical trials were conducted involving 255 grade XII students. The effectiveness test was conducted in class X with 36 students as the experimental class and 36 students as the control class at SMA Negeri 1 Depok, Sleman. The data analysis used the QUEST to see the validity and reliability of the items, and the MANOVA test was carried out to see the effectiveness of the media. The results showed that the augmented reality-assisted physics e-module based on the local wisdom of pedicab was effective in improving mathematical communication with a score of 0.40 (large) and critical thinking abilities with a score 0.11 (medium). Mathematical communication skill was the missing piece of the mathematics education failure puzzle for centuries despite its central role in learning activities. Built on top of other process skills, the skill was the tool to construct a more comprehensive conceptual understanding by learning math from different perspectives, sharpening other cognitive skills, and providing important feedback about students' understanding. This study observed how the students' mathematical communication skill was correlated with the application of the generative learning model and how this correlation was influenced by various level of the school's academic achievement in mathematics. It employed a fractional 2x2-factorial design, careful non-probability sampling combined with simple random sampling to pick 171 students, and a validated and reliable scoring system to measure communication skills. Based on the results, the students' mathematical communication skill significantly correlates with the application of the generative learning model. The use of factorial design revealed that this correlation was more determined by applying the generative learning model, not by the level of schools' or students' mathematics achievement. Teachers should be more optimistic about using generative learning models to improve mathematical communication skills, even in classes with lower mathematics achievement levels. This research aims to describe the mathematical communication skills in writing of junior high school students in grade VIII in solving the problems of Theorem Pythagoras. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The subjects of this study numbered 31 students and were categorized in groups of very high, high, medium, low and very low female students. The results showed that students who had mathematical communication skills in a very high group were students who were very able to meet the four indicators tested with an average percentage of 83%. The mathematical communication skills of students in the high group are students who are able to meet the four indicators tested with an average total percentage of 70%. The mathematical communication skills of students in the moderate group are students who are sufficiently able to meet the four indicators tested with an average total percentage of 51%. The mathematical communication skills of students in the lower group were students who were less able to meet the four indicators tested with an average total percentage of 32%. The mathematical communication skills of students in the very low group were students who had not been able to meet the four indicators tested with an average total percentage of 17%.

The objectives of this study were: (1) to determine the mathematical communication skills of students of SMPN 1 Unggul Darul Imarah after being taught using the SAVI approach; (2) to determine the mathematical communication skills of students who are taught using the SAVI approach and students who are taught using conventional learning. This study uses a quasi-experimental method. The population was all grade VII students of SMPN 1 Unggul Darul Imarah. Sampling using random sampling, which consists of two classes, namely class VII-6 as the experimental class and class VII-5 as the control class. Data collection used a test sheet of mathematical communication skills. Data analysis using t-test. The results of the study were: (1) based on the results of the t-test, it was found that the students' mathematical communication skills taught by the SAVI approach were better than those taught by conventional learning in class VII SMPN 1 Unggul Darul Imarah; (2) based on the comparison of the results of the pre-test and post-test, it shows that there is a positive influence on mathematical communication skills after being taught with the SAVI approach.

This research aims to analyze students' mathematical communication skills in solving mathematical problems based on their self-confidence. This research was a qualitative research method with descriptive approach. This research was conducted at one of junior high school in Muaro Jambi, Jambi, Indonesia. The research subjects were six students consisting of two students with high self-confidence category, two students with medium category, and two students with low category who were selected using purposive sampling technique. This research used student self-confidence questionnaires, problem-solving tests, and interviews to confirm the level of students' mathematical communication skills. The data were analyzed by descriptive technique. The results showed that the subjects with high self-confidence had met all indicators of mathematical communication skills, while the subjects with medium self-confidence had met three of four indicators of mathematical communication skills, and the subjects with low self-confidence only fulfill one of four indicators of mathematical communication skills.

Communication style is a way in which a person conveys messages or information. Pre-service teachers need to have good communication skills. Communication is one of the keys to the effectiveness of a learning process. Mathematical communication is divided into two, namely written communication and oral communication. Interactive learning videos are one of the alternative media used in online learning. This study aims to describe the mathematical communication style of pre-service teachers in conveying the material of Inequalities through interactive learning videos. This study uses a qualitative approach. The purposive sampling technique was chosen as the sampling method. The subjects of this study consisted of three students from the mathematics education study program FKIP UNISMA, each of which represented a different cohort level, namely semesters 2, 4, and 6. The results of the three subjects have a distinctive and different communication style in explaining the material of Absolute-Value Inequalities. Based on data analysis, the first student’s communication style tends to be non-assertive, the second student has a manipulative communication style, and the third student’s communication style tends to be more assertive.

Learning mathematics equips students with the necessary competencies, and mathematical communication abilities allow them to discuss and exchange mathematical ideas with others. Correspondingly, research is needed into ways to help students develop these skills. These data were collected from 87 students in grade 10 at An Nhon Tay High School in the Cu Chi neighborhood of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. These students took part in a quasi-experimental study whose goal was to determine how a four-step learning model that included activities using the ACODESA method and mind maps affected the student’s ability to communicate mathematically. In the experimental group, students were taught using the learning mentioned above model, while those in the control group received traditional instruction. To determine the efficacy of this teaching strategy, a quasi-experiment that included a pre-test, a treatment, and a post-test was designed and carried out. The student’s development in mathematical and linguistic activities was evaluated using both quantitative and qualitative analyses of the data that was gathered. Data gathered may shed light on how effective the learning model is in helping high school students enhance their mathematical communication skills. Also, the pre-test and post-test items from the supplementary data files can be a starting point for creating new learning tasks to evaluate students’ mathematical communication abilities.

This study determines the effect of video-assisted Discovery Learning on the mathematical communication skills of junior high school students. The research sample was determined by cluster random sampling of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 29 Semarang, Indonesia. The research data were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), continued with the Scheffe test. The results showed that: (i) the Discovery Learning model assisted by video learning had a significant effect on the mathematical communication abilities of students (F = 11,926; P = 0.05); (ii) there were differences in the mathematical communication ability between students using the Discovery model and those using conventional models (F = 9,729; P = 0.05); and (iii) there were differences in the mathematical communication skills of students watching instructional videos and those who did not (F = 8,592; P = 0.05). The authors conclude that the Discovery Learning model assisted by instructional videos is more effective and has a significant effect on the mathematical communication abilities of secondary high school students. Komunikasi matematis merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang wajib dimiliki oleh anak untuk belajar matematika dengan baik. Kemampuan komunikasi matematis merupakan salah satu standar yang diakui oleh NCTM sebagai organisasi guru matematika Internasional. Kemampuan komunikasi setiap orang berbeda-beda, salah satu yang membuatnya berbeda adalah gaya berpikir orang tersebut. Salah satu gaya berpikir yang ada adalah gaya berpikir teoritis. Karena itu peneliti bertujuan untuk memberikan skema komunikasi matematis mahasiswa berdasarkan gaya berpikir teoritis. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif. Peneliti memberikan soal kepada 35 mahasiswa sebagai calon subjek penelitian. Selanjutnya peneliti memilih mahasiswa yang memiliki gaya berpikir teoritis menggunakan indikator Honey-Mumford. Setelah itu hasil pekerjaan subjek di analisis menggunakan indikator komunikasi matematis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan subjek menyelesaikan masalah yang diberikan secara runtut dan urut. Skema komunikasi matematis yang terbentuk cenderung sesuai dengan tahapan pemecahan masalah. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa akurasi jawaban mahasiswa yang memiliki gaya berpikir teoritis lebih baik dibandingkan gaya berpikir pragmatis dan reflektif

This research aims to produce PISA-like problems that are valid, practical, and effective for assessing students' mathematical communication and problem solving abilities. This research type is formative evaluation development by Tessmer, including expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field test. The subject of this research is 60 students of Year 9 at SMP Negeri 19 Percontohan Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The results of this study yielded 15 PISA-like problems that are 1) valid because experts state that the set of questions developed is based on a strong theoretical basis, almost all problems have valid criteria, and the set of problems has high reliability; 2) practical because teachers agree that the problems can assess students' mathematical communication and problem solving abilities; 3) effective because mathematical communication and problem solving abilities of students meet PISA levels and students give positive responses to PISA-like problems. The implication of this research is that mathematics teachers can use this problem to familiarize students in answering PISA-like problems, primarily to assess mathematical communication and problem solving abilities.

Communication is important in mathematics learning. This study aims to describe the written mathematics communication profile of junior high school students in solving mathematics problems reviewed from extrovert-introvert personality. The subjects of this study consist of one introvert student and one extrovert student, while the instruments used were the Myers Briggs Type Indicators personality questionnaire, math ability tests, and written mathematics communication tests. The results of this study revealed that introvert student fulfilled the accuracy and completeness aspect at the stage of understanding the problems, devising a plan, and carrying out the plan. Meanwhile, the extrovert students fulfill the accuracy aspect only at the stage of understanding the problem. Besides that, extrovert students fulfill the completeness aspect at the stage of carrying out the plan and looking back. Introvert and extrovert students do not fulfill the fluency aspect. So that introvert students' written mathematics communication is better than extrovert students.

This study aims to examine the effect of the REACT learning strategy on the creative thinking and mathematical communication skills of MTs/SMP students. The population of this research is class VIII MTs Ma'arif NU 5 academic year 2021/2022, totaling 122 students. The sample used is class VIII A as the experimental class using the REACT learning strategy and class VIII C as the control class. Hypothesis testing using Multivariate Analysis of Variance or MANOVA. The prerequisite test is the normality test with the Kolmogrov-Smirnov test and the homogeneity test against the Box's test and the Levianate test. The results of data analysis showed that the so that was rejected, the then was rejected, the so was rejected. Based on this analysis and calculation, it is concluded that there is an effect of REACT learning strategy on students' creative thinking skills, there is an effect of REACT learning strategy on students' mathematical communication skills. In addition, there is an effect of REACT learning strategy on students' creative thinking and mathematical communication skills.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa dalam pembelajaran model Project-Based Learning menggunakan pendekatan Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Penelitian dilakukan pada siswa kelas 5 Sekolah Dasar Negeri Puren, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik tes, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa tes kemampuan komunikasi matematika. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran Project-Based Learning terintegrasi STEM dapat meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematika siswa dalam tiga aspek yang diteliti, yaitu menghubungkan ide matematis berdasarkan gambar maupun representasi matematika yang relevan, menggunakan gambar maupun representasi matematis yang sesuai untuk menyampaikan ide matematis, dan menggunakan bahasa matematika untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan matematis. Selain itu, sebanyak 78,125% siswa termasuk dalam ketegori tuntas berdasarkan KKM yang digunakan pada kelas penelitian.

Student mistakes in communicating mathematical ideas are still widely practiced. Therefore, it is essential to analyze students' mathematical communication errors in solving mathematical problems so that learning planning can be better. This study aims to describe students' mathematics communication errors in solving higher-order thinking skills in linear algebra and matrix subject. The type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. They were 155 students as subject research. The data analysis started by collecting students' answers and then grouped them according to mathematics communication skills criteria. Later identified and analyzed the errors made by students of each mathematics communication criteria. The results showed that mathematical communication errors on the indicators of writing mathematical situations were concept errors and principle errors. The declaring idea's mathematical communication error is a concept error, a principle error, and an operation error. Furthermore, mathematical communication errors on the indicator state that solving-problem using the language itself is a concept error and operator error.

This article presents an investigation, developed from a questionnaire, whose aim is to verify if and how mathematics teachers use writing in the classroom. After analyzing the answers, we verified that the writing of the students is still little used by these teachers in their teaching methodology, and among those who said that they use it only a few described how they do it. The study showed the importance of deepening this topic in the initial and continuing training of these teachers, discussing the possibilities and advantages of using writing in class. Peer assessment is an underutilized tool in mathematics classrooms. We examined how peer assessment could be used in a mathematics course to improve mathematical communication and mathematical proficiency. To describe in what ways peer reviews compared to teacher reviews, we analyzed ratings and feedback of 32 6th graders and their mathematics teacher. To determine what impact receiving peer versus teacher feedback had on students, we compared the revision quality and mathematical problem-solving abilities of students who received feedback from four peers to those who received feedback from their teacher. The findings indicated that middle school students can provide feedback just as helpful in improving mathematical communication and problem-solving ability as the teacher. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As part of 21st-century skills, communication is an essential skill for students. Students 'mathematical communication tends to below, one of which is influenced by students' self-confidence. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to describe the mathematical communication skills in solving circle problems based on students' self-confidence. Determining the subject using purposive sampling technique, namely from 36 students of class VIII SMP in Madiun, East Java, Indonesia, obtained two subjects with high self-confidence (SCT) and one subject with low self-confidence (SCR). A qualitative descriptive approach was used in this study. Tests and interviews were used as data collection techniques. Data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, and concluding. The results of this study include: SCT is capable while SCR is less able to meet the indicators of mathematical communication skills both in writing and orally at the stages of understanding problems, implementing plans, and checking back; and SCT can meet mathematical communication indicators both written and oral, while SCR is less able to meet written mathematical communication indicators but can verbally at the stage of planning completion. The level of self-confidence of students differentiates their mathematical communication skills in solving problems. Thus, a teacher needs to design an appropriate question to train students' mathematical communication skills with low self-confidence.

Poor mathematical communication skills and motivation are influenced by several factors, such as the use of learning models used by teachers in learning. The use of appropriate learning models can improve students’ mathematical communication skills and motivation. This study aimed to determine the effect of the discussion learning model using Google Classroom and Google Form on students' mathematical communication in terms of students’ learning motivation. This type of research is quasi-experimental. Data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance with unequal cells. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the discussion learning model using Google Classroom provided better communication skills than the learning model using Google Form, (2) there was no difference in the effect of learning motivation on students' mathematical communication, and (3) there was no interaction between learning model and learning motivation towards students' mathematical communication skills. Further research is needed to develop learning models using Google Classroom and Google Form by taking into account the characteristics of other students that are adjusted to the school curriculum.

Mathematical communication skill is very important for university students because through communication, students can convey their mathematical ideas, knowledge and arguments. However, the facts show that the written mathematical communication skills of students majoring in Mathematics Education at IAIN Tulungagung are classified as low. The low written mathematical communication skill of students is indicated by errors in writing mathematical symbols on an equation and unsystematic writing of the steps to solve mathematical problems. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model using Google Classroom media to improve the written mathematical communication skill of IAIN Tulungagung students. Several previous researchers have reviewed the use of Google Classroom in learning, but it was not integrated with the TPS learning model and did not focus on the influence on students' mathematical communication skill. The study sample was 40 students of the 5th semester in 2019/2020 academic year majoring in Mathematics Education at IAIN Tulungagung who took the Differential Equation course. The data collection was carried out by providing a pretest and posttest before and after implementing the learning using the TPS model with Google Classroom media. Then, the data from the pretest and posttest results were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test because the data were not normally distributed. The results of this study showed that the TPS learning model using Google Classroom media could improve the students' mathematical communication skill.

This study examined the relationship of logical intelligence students' mathematical communication skills. This research was conducted at the senior high school of Jenggawah at the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year. The population in this study were all of the high school students of class X IPA, the total students were 144 students in the 2019/2020 academic year. The sampling technique of this study was using 64 Randoms Cluster Sampling as well as the instruments used in the form of mathematical logical intelligence questionnaire and mathematical communication skills test questions. The Analysis of the data used in this research was descriptive and inferential analysis by using a simple linear regression test. Based on the results of a simple linear regression test that the results of the relationship of mathematical logical intelligence of mathematical communication skills can be seen from t count = 11.074 > t table = 1.997 with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05, it could be concluded that there was a relationship of mathematical logical intelligence to mathematical communication ability.
