Onions (Allium cepa L.) contain various flavonols, including quercetin, kaempferol, anthocyanin, luteolin, and myricetin. Quercetin in onions is considered the primary bioactive component. To assess the impact of quercetin on hyperuricemia in healthy Wistar albino rats, this study used high‐performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet (HPLC‐UV) to identify and measure quercetin in onion powder. Twenty‐four 160 ± 10 g, six wistar albino male rats in each group were kept: NC (control sample, no onion powder), OT1, OT2, and OT3, which contained 11.13, 14.84, and 18.61 g/100 g onion powder, respectively. The treatment lasted 28 days, during which the last 7 days were for urine, feces, and blood collection. The results showed a trend of decreasing levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, total cholesterol, and low‐density lipoprotein in rats fed OT1, OT2, and OT3 diets. Improvements were observed in feed, water, and nutrient intake, feed conversion ratio, feed efficiency ratio, nutrient digestibility, nitrogen balance, body weight, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and uric acid levels (p ≤.05). In contrast, high‐density lipoprotein, triglycerides, serum total protein, neutrophils, and lymphocytes did not change (p ≥.05). White blood cells, red blood cell count, platelet count, hemoglobin, and monocytes showed an upward trend. Based on our calculations, we determined the optimal human dosage from the most effective amount of onion powder. By taking into account the ratio of human‐to‐rat surface area, we estimate that the equivalent human dose of onion is 181.04 grams with 204 mg of quercetin. Cassia fistula (C. fistula) has shown strong anti‐inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antitussive, antibacterial, and antifungal properties and is being used for healing wounds and gastrointestinal illness. This study was planned to obtain fruit extract from C. fistula using ultrasonic‐assisted extraction (UAE) technique and evaluated for phytochemical contents, anti‐hyperlipidemia, and hematological parameters. The results showed that total phenolic (TPC), total flavonoids (TFC), condensed tannin (CT), and saponins were 13.07 mg GAE/g, 5.24 mg QE/g, 4.01 mg/g, and 27.55%, respectively, in the extract. Proximate composition of the extract showed 2.48%, moisture, 1.25% fat, 2.80% ash, 4.59% fiber, 11.93% protein, and 76.95% NFE. The 2, 2‐diphenyl‐1‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power assay (FRAP) activity was 63.30 μg/mL and 15.02 nmol/g, respectively. High‐fat diet (HFD)‐induced hyperlipidemic rats were orally administrated with 0.5 and 1.0 g of extract/kg body weight (bw) daily. The reduction of total cholesterol (TC: 90.83 ± 8.86 mg/dL), triglycerides (TG; 74.16 ± 9.10 mg/dL), and low‐density lipoproteins (LDL; 74.83 ± 4.66 mg/dL) and increase of high‐density lipoproteins (HDL; 41.83 ± 8.4 mg/dL) was observed. Significant changes in red blood cells (RBCs; 8.03 ± 0.67106/μL), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC; 35.02 ± 1.78 g/dL), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH; 18.00 ± 0.26 pg), and mean corpuscular volume (MCV; 55.36 ± 4.01 fL) at 1.0 g extract intake was observed. Extract administration also improved significantly liver enzymes, body weight, and liver morphology. Jambo grass (Sorghum bicolour × Sorghum sudanefe) harvested 50 days after sowing was ensiled in laboratory silos using 2 additives, cane molasses and ground corn grains, each at the rate of 2%, 4%, and 6% levels for 30, 35, and 40 days at room temperature (28 °C). Data regarding incubation days were pooled. The pH and lactic acid concentration in jambo grass silage were not affected by the additive type, level, or fermentation period. Dry matter (DM) content of jambo silage was significantly (P < 0.05) affected by additive type; however, additive levels and fermentation periods did not affect its DM contents. Crude protein content of jambo grass was not affected by ensiling time, additive type, or level. The true protein contents of jambo grass silage were significantly (P < 0.05) higher with molasses than with ground corn. Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and hemicellulose content of jambo grass were significantly (P < 0.05) affected by additives and their levels, but fermentation periods did not influence the NDF contents of jambo grass silage. Cellulose, acid detergent fiber, and acid detergent lignin contents of jambo silage were not affected by additive type, level, or fermentation period. Therefore, jambo grass ensiled with 2% molasses for 30 days was selected for in situ digestion kinetics in bulls. Dry matter and NDF degradabilities of jambo grass were significantly higher than those of its silage at 48 h of ruminal incubation. Ruminal lag time, and rate and extent of DM and NDF degradation were similar for jambo grass and its silage. The present work aimed to find out the effect of different levels of hydrolysable tannin (HT) on serum hormonal profile, biochemical indices, lipid profile, apparent digestibility of nutrients and body weight gain in healthy female rats. Forty five adult healthy female rats of 8 weeks old were randomly divided into five equal groups. Different doses of HT 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2% were administered daily to each rats group on the body weight basis for 6 weeks. The results had shown the reduction trend (p < 0.05) in the blood glucose, serum cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, testosterone, prolactin, ghrelin, total oxidative stress and serum iron levels; while an improvement (p < 0.05) was seen in serum follicle stimulating hormone, progesterone, luteinizing hormone, high density lipoprotein, IgM and total antioxidant capacity. However, no effect (p > 0.05) was noticed in serum IgG, protein, estrogen and calcium levels. A significant reduction (p < 0.05) was seen in the apparent nutrient digestibility and body weight gain. The results had shown improvement in the feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05) but non-significant decrease (p > 0.05) in the feed intake. The findings showed that HT had healthy effects on the serum biochemical indices and reproductive hormonal profile but had a negative impact on the nutrient digestibility. Thus, the study concluded that HT could be used as an herbal medicine for the treatment of leading metabolic and infertility diseases like obesity and polycystic ovarian syndrome in females. Eggs are good sources of nutrients essential for the growth and development of infants. Introducing eggs as a weaning food can improve dietary adequacy in infants at risk for protein energy malnutrition (PEM). To evaluate the current objective, 72 pups (36 males and 36 females) were used to calculate the impact of various egg protein levels on blood parameters. Nonisonitrogenous and isocaloric pellet diets were offered to pups for 28 days using nine pups with three replicates according to a completely randomized design (CRD). The water intake and ad libitum diet were offered to weaned pups. The pups were randomly assigned to different concentrations of diet, which contained WF0, control diet, 14% of soybean protein; WF1, 14% of egg protein; WF2, 16% of egg protein; and WF3, 18% of egg protein, respectively. After weaning, the intraperitoneal injection with the drug (xylazine with ketamine) was used to anesthetize before killing on the 28th day. Blood samples were used to measure the blood metabolites. The results indicated that the concentration of red blood cells, white blood cells, serum triglycerides, and serum protein was significantly (p ≤.05) increased in pups fed with high egg protein levels compared to the control. The highest platelet count was observed in the pups fed WF3 diet. In contrast, the amount of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase was significantly (p ≤.05) reduced with increasing the level of egg protein in the diets of weaned pups. Immunity biomarkers (immunoglobulin A, immunoglobulin G, and immunoglobulin M) and kidney functions (creatinine and blood urine nitrogen) were nonsignificantly (p ≤.05) increased in the pups fed a high level of protein due to a high biological value of soybean protein. Dietary interventions have captured the attention of nutritionists due to their health-promoting aspects, in addition to medications. In this connection, supplementation of nutraceuticals is considered as a rational approach to alleviating various metabolic disorders. Among novel strategies, prebiotic-supplemented foods are an encouraging trend in addressing the issue. In the present investigation, prebiotic fructooligosaccharides (FOS) were extracted from garlic (Allium sativum L.) powder using ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). The response surface methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the independent sonication variables, i.e., extraction temperature (ET, 80, 90, and 100 °C), amplitude level (AL, 70, 80, and 90%) and sonication time (ST, 10, 15 and 20 min). The maximum FOS yield (6.23 ± 0.52%) was obtained at sonication conditions of ET (80 °C), AL (80%) and ST (10 min), while the minimum yield of FOS was obtained at high operating temperatures and time. The optimized FOS yield (7.19%) was obtained at ET (80 °C), AL (73%) and ST (15 min) after model validation. The influence of sonication parameters, i.e., ET, AL and ST, on FOS yield was evaluated by varying their coded levels from −1 to +1, respectively, for each independent variable. High-performance liquid chromatography with refractive index detector (HPLC-RID) detection and quantification indicated that sucrose was present in high amounts (2.06 ± 0.10 g/100 g) followed by fructose and glucose. Total FOS fractions which included nystose present in maximum concentration (526 ± 14.7 mg/100 g), followed by 1-kestose (428 ± 19.5 mg/100 g) and fructosylnystoses (195 ± 6.89 mg/100 g). Conclusively, garlic is a good source of potential prebiotics FOS and they can be extracted using optimized sonication parameters using ultrasound-assisted techniques with maximum yield percentage. Nano-encapsulation in terms of nanotechnology is one of the wide ranged and rapid adopted technologies in food industry. Nanotechnology has modernized the whole food system from production to stored products for the improvement in quality and preservation of nutritional status. Nano-encapsulation is also known as promising technology to protect bioactive components and could be suitable for delivering such protected compounds to target biological systems. In this review, the recent literature highlights the formulation and fabrication of nano-encapsulation using the appropriate wall materials. Moreover, literature also focuses on different methods, which have been used for encapsulation purposes such as coacervation, inclusion complexation, nano-precipitation, emulsification, supercritical fluid technique, ultra-sonification and spray and freeze-drying. Furthermore, this review also discusses the advances in the applications of nano-encapsulation for phenolic compounds, antioxidants, natural food colorants, antimicrobial agents, essential oils, minerals, flavors and vitamins as nano-carriers in food systems. As reviewed in this study, nanotechnology have ability to improve the food properties either in sensory attributes, storage, target delivery, along with to enhance its nutrition and make it healthier. The health benefits of blended functional drinks make them popular among consumers and a highly profitable product sector. In this study, the compositions of peach juice, plum juice, and sugar solution were optimized by D‐optimal mixture design in the ratio of 72:25:3 to develop a functional beverage with acceptable sensory attributes. The results also showed that a blending of fruit juices significantly increases the amount of bioactive compounds (TPC: 432 µg/100 ml; TFC: 169.5 µg CE/100 ml) along with antioxidant capacity. The integrated effect of conventional pasteurization (90°C, 10 min) and microwave heating (for 1, 1.5 and 2 min, 850 W, at 60°C,) on the resultant fluctuations in the physicochemical and bioactive attributes revealed that microwave processing held for 1.5 min was far superior than other treatments and it also enhanced the functional components of beverage including TPC to 33% and antioxidants to 16% (DPPH) and 24% (FRAP), respectively. Practical applications: This research indicates the significance of peach and plum juices as viable ingredients to produce functional beverages in different commercially available products such as probiotic and energy drinks, etc., possessing important antioxidant and nutritional properties with potential health benefits for the consumers. The optimization was performed exclusively on the basis of desirability indices in terms of sensory attributes, which is useful in providing a beverage with optimal taste and aroma to consumers. Moreover, it also focuses on the use of novel processing techniques such as microwave processing in which stabilizes the quality and sensory characteristics of drinks to a maximum extent as well as increasing the functional compounds including phenolic and flavonoid contents, antioxidant capacity and organic acids more efficiently causing minimal deterioration in the final product as compared to conventional thermal processing. Rapeseed meal (RSM) is a commonly used protein source in poultry diet but its usage is limited due to antinutritional factors, the glucosinolates (GLS) and erucic acid. The 00-rapeseed meal (00-RSM) is the developed variety of rapeseed with reduced GLS and erucic acid content through genetic selection. The present study was conducted with the objective of comparing the standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of amino acids (AA) in 00-RSM and RSM when fed to growing broilers. Three samples of each ingredient were collected from different sources. Two hundred and fifty two day-old male broilers (Hubbard × Hubbard) were fed a corn-soybean meal based starter diet in crumble form from day 1 to 13. On day 14, all chicks were individually weighed and randomly distributed to 42 replicate pens (6 birds in each pen). Six test diets (2 ingredient × 3 samples) with approximately 20% crude protein were made in mash form in such a way that the 6 test ingredients served as the sole source of AA in one diet. The endogenous AAs (EAA) were determined by feeding a nitrogen-free diet to six replicate pens. Each test diet was fed to six replicates of broiler chicks from 14 to 21 days of age. Results indicated that the SID of all AA differed (P < 0.001) among 00-RSM samples. Among RSM samples, the SID of AA varied for arginine, methionine (P < 0.01), histidine, leucine, lysine, aspartic acid, and phenylalanine (P < 0.05). A greater (P < 0.05) SID of all AA except arginine, histidine, phenylalanine, cysteine, and glutamic acid was observed in 00-RSM compared with RSM. In conclusion, 00-RSM had greater SID of AA compared with RSM and it is nutritionally superior to RSM to be used in broiler diets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Antigenicity of buffalo alpha S1 (α-S1) casein and its hydrolysis by gastrointestinal enzymes were carried out in this study.α-S1 casein was purified by anion exchange chromatography and hydrolyzed for 150 min. Indirect Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were performed using sera of groups of patients allergic to cow milk and healthy group of subjects non-allergic to cow milk. The patients allergic to cow milk showed significant response toα-S1 casein, which reduced with higher degree of hydrolysis. Maximum reduction of antigenicity was observed for trypsin at 85%. Similarly,α- chymotrypsin at pH 7.8, pepsin at pH 2.2 and pH 5.5 reduced the antigenicity to 63%, 60% and 38%, respectively. The enzymatic hydrolysis can reduce the antigenicity of buffaloα-S1 casein in patients allergic to cow milk. Background: Omega-3 fatty acids (Ω-3 PUFAs) may help to improve health status in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) by reducing numerous metabolic disorders (insulin sensitivity, hyperinsulinemia, lipid profile, obesity and inflammation). To evaluate the current objective, 16 weeks (6 weeks of adjustment period followed by 10 weeks of collection period) research trial was planned to check the impact of different sources of Ω-3 PUFAs (synthetic Ω-3, flaxseed and fish oil) on nutrient digestibility, weight gain, productive (lipid profile, glucose and insulin), reproductive profile (progesterone, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), estrogen, luteinizing hormone (LH) and prolactin) and histological study of ovarian tissues in Wistar female rats.Methods: Forty-five rats of 130 ± 10 g weight were divided into 5 groups, each having 9 rats: NC (negative control without PCOS), PC (positive control with PCOS), SO (synthetic omega-3 containing ALA, EPA and DHA), FO (flaxseed oil) and F (fish oil) fed at 300 mg/kg/orally/daily of these sources were added in the basal diets while PC and NC received only the basal diet. Food and water were offered ad libitum. PCOS was induced in the rats fed of PC, SO, FO and F diets group by single intramuscular injection of estradiol-valerate (4 mg/rat/IM). Body weight and blood glucose was recorded weekly. At 16th week of trial, blood samples were collected for lipid and hormonal analysis. Ovarian tissues were removed for pathological evaluation. Digestibility was measured by total collection method.Results: Cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoproteins were reduced in SO, FO and F groups when compared with rats of PC group. However, increasing trend of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) was found in same groups. The highest HDL (36.83 ± 0.72 mg/dL) was observed in rats fed F diet. In case of a hormonal profile, testosterone, LH and insulin levels showed a significant reduction after treatments. Blood glucose results showed significantly reducing trend in all the rats fed with Ω-3 PUFAs sources than PC from 5 to 10th week of trial. However, similar trend was noticed in rat's body weight at the end of 6th week. In ovarian morphology, different stages of follicles were observed in groups fed SO, FO and F diets. Nutrient digestibility in PCOS induced rats was remained non-significant.Conclusions: The three sources of Ω-3 PUFAs had effective role in improving lipid and hormonal profile, reducing blood glucose, weight gain and histopathological damages in PCOS rats.
