Higher education students use digital devices for learning, entertainment, and financial transactions. The present study examines undergraduate (UG) students' challenges faced in cyber security space amid digital environments. The study employed a qualitative research design with a narrative inquiry method to capture the lived experiences, challenges, and coping mechanism of UG students through semi structured interviews. The researchers analyzed the qualitative data of ten UG students using the inductive thematic analysis method. UG students shared overall that they face varied experiences, multiple challenges, and cope with cyber security issues in multiple ways. Findings from the study led to recommendations for stakeholders, which includes designing higher education classes in a more secure way. This may offer students orientation on cybersecurity knowledge which keeps them safe and helps them understand the digital environment overall.

Background: propofol is a hypnotic used with increasing frequency for sedation during endoscopic procedures. Most of the reports published related with its employment by non-anaesthesiologists, refers to basic endoscopy, with little reference to its use in advanced endoscopy. Objective: to evaluate the efficacy and safety of propofol sedation administered by endoscopists, while performing percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, an advanced technique that is usually performed in high anesthetic level risk patients. Material and methods: prospective study of a series of endoscopic gastrostomy performed consecutively in our department; the sedation was carried out exclusively with propofol. The staff in the room consisted of two medical gastroenterologists, a nurse and a nursing assistant. Propofol was administered by bolus doses adjusted to patient weight. Arterial oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure were monitored; respiratory activity was monitored visually by observing respiratory excursions of the patient. Results: we included 47 patients, with an average age of 82 years. 87% were ASA III and the rest, ASA IV. The mean dose of propofol was 51 mgr. Complications were recorded: 8 cases of desaturation and two of hypotension, all of them minor and quickly reversible. All procedures were carried out successfully, at a median time of 8 minutes. Conclusion: the propofol sedation carried out by non-anaesthesiologist trained staff, seems to appear as a safe and effective procedure while performing percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy.Introducción: el propofol es un hipnótico usado cada vez con más frecuencia para la sedación durante procedimientos endoscópicos. La mayor parte de los trabajos publicados en relación con su empleo por personal no anestesista se refiere a exploraciones de endoscopia básica, siendo escasas las referencias a su empleo en endoscopia avanzada. Objetivo: valorar la eficacia y la seguridad de la sedación mediante propofol administrado por endoscopistas, durante la realización de gastrostomía endoscópica percutánea, técnica avanzada y generalmente aplicada sobre pacientes de riesgo anestésico alto. Material y métodos: estudio prospectivo de una serie de gastrostomías endoscópicas realizadas consecutivamente en nuestro servicio; las sedaciones se llevaron a cabo exclusivamente con propofol. El personal presente en la sala consistió en dos médicos gastroenterólogos, una enfermera y una auxiliar de enfermería. El propofol se administró en bolos, ajustando las dosis al peso de los pacientes. Se monitorizaron la saturación arterial de oxígeno, la frecuencia cardiaca y la tensión arterial. La actividad respiratoria se controló de forma visual mediante la observación de las excursiones respiratorias de los enfermos. Resultados: se incluyeron 47 pacientes, con una edad media de 82 años. El 87% fueron ASA III y el resto ASA IV. La dosis media de propofol fue de 51 mg. Como complicaciones se registraron 8 casos de desaturación y dos de hipotensión, todas leves y rápidamente reversibles. Todos los procedimientos se llevaron a cabo satisfactoriamente, en un tiempo medio de 8 minutos. Conclusión: la sedación mediante propofol llevada a cabo por personal entrenado no anestesista parece mostrarse como un método seguro y eficaz durante la realización de gastrostomía percutánea endoscópica.

This paper deals with the intercultural sensitivity of professors of Educational Sciences at the University of Malaga (Spain). The methodological approach of the study was qualitative, and the research techniques for data collection were in-depth interviews. The main technique for analyzing the information was content analysis. The results of the study show that the majority of university teachers identify interculturality as a value and a pedagogical proposal of great importance. Thus, there is a need to promote intercultural competences and a critical view of culture. In conclusion, the study highlights the existence of difficulties in developing interculturality, which requires a change towards comprehensive training and education in values in the university context.

Background: The development of prosocial competencies in university students can be attained through the implementation of Service-Learning (S-L) methodology by carrying out a community service to groups of foreign unaccompanied minors (FUM). Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) and Sport Science (SS) students involved in an S-L experience normally develop a critical way of thinking as they face social conflicts. Besides, social justice education and S-L attempt to help in favour of social inclusion of vulnerable groups. Purpose: This study aims to assess the development of prosocial competencies in PETE and SS students taking a Dual Degree Program in Physical Activity (PA) and SS and Primary Education. This is done through S-L methodology, by carrying out a community service to groups of FUM. Method: A total of 21 male and 9 female PETE and SS students participated in this study. The methodology used is of a qualitative nature. Reflective diary is used as an instrument for data collection, and content analysis as an information analysis technique. Results: It has been observed an improvement in the prosocial competencies of the PETE and SS students involved in the S-L experience. The competencies with the greatest number of references and, therefore, those with a greater presence in their testimonies, include organisation, proactivity and optimism, self-esteem, and tolerance and respect. Conclusion: The S-L is capable of undertaking a transformative role which enables PETE and SS students to acquire prosocial competencies in contexts relating to cultural diversity and social justice.

Recent studies, supported by the European project "Europe Engage -- Developing a Culture of Civic Engagement through Service-Learning within Higher Education in Europe," suggest that service-learning (SL) is an effective approach to develop personal and social learning linked to real contexts. This particular case study analyses the perceived effects of an SL programme implemented in Melilla (on the border between Africa and Europe) by Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) students. They offered a service focusing on promoting physical activity and sport among different vulnerable groups (unaccompanied foreign minors, migrants and refugees, adults with autism spectrum disorders, women in conditions of social exclusion, ex-drug addicts and vulnerable older people). This case study used a qualitative hermeneutic-phenomenological methodology. A total of 46 PETE students (36 male and 10 female) participated in one of the two editions of SL carried out in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. Two focus groups and 46 personal reflective journals were analysed, and some interesting outcomes emerged from the thematic analysis, related to the four categories of Butin's conceptual model, which was used as a benchmark. These findings reveal how SL can promote an inclusive Physical Education (PE) experience in such a multicultural setting. The positive results achieved are consistent with previous SL research and specifically support the applied intervention design based on the phases of Kolb's experiential learning (1984). In conclusion, SL offers an empowering approach for multicultural education in PETE programmes, supporting the socially critical research developed in PE in recent decades.

A new genus and species, Castrila latens, native to the south‐eastern Iberian Peninsula, is described here for the first time and compared with its closest relatives. The plant is characterized by being annual, glabrous, having reduplicate leaves in whorls of (5)6–7, inflorescences capitate and involucrate, corolla shortly hypocrateriform and white, with yellowish doliiform tube, stamens included, and ovary and mericarps densely papillose. An endemic plant, it grows on the calcareous mountains of the Sierra Seca, Sierra de Castril, and Sierra de la Cabrilla, between 1800 and 2100 m of elevation, in the Granada and Jaén provinces (eastern Andalusia, Spain). For this genus and species, a description, an illustration, a distribution map, the chromosome number, the assessment of the conservation status, an estimate of the breeding system, and the situation in the Rubieae phylogenetic tree are provided. Objective: Walleye Sander vitreus are important sport fish that are commonly stocked to supplement populations. Increases in Smallmouth Bass Micropterus dolomieu abundance have prompted concerns regarding potential predation by these and other piscivores on stocked Walleye. Our objectives were to assess the timing and duration of predation on stocked Walleye, the frequency of occurrence and percent composition of Walleye in predator diets, and the percentage of stocked Walleye consumed. Methods: We collected Smallmouth Bass, adult Walleye, Largemouth Bass M. nigricans, and Northern Pike Esox lucius diets in May (prestocking) and June–September (poststocking) 2019 and 2021 from three bays in Lake Oahe, South Dakota. We stocked two bays with Walleye (30–32 mm; 255–1649 Walleye/ha), whereas one bay was unstocked and served as a reference. We estimated Smallmouth Bass population abundance using Schnabel capture–recapture models, and we used bioenergetics to estimate the percentage of stocked age‐0 Walleye consumed. Result: We found age‐0 Walleye in up to 11.4% of Smallmouth Bass diets and 14.6% of adult Walleye diets during the poststocking period. A single Largemouth Bass consumed one Walleye at 3 days poststocking (DPS), whereas we did not identify Walleye in Northern Pike diets. Daily mean percent composition by weight (±95% confidence interval) of age‐0 Walleye in diets peaked at 43.2 ± 35.1% at 3 DPS for Smallmouth Bass and 49.8 ± 97.7% at 14 DPS for adult Walleye. Following the peaks, age‐0 Walleye percent composition by weight rapidly declined and was generally 0% after 25 DPS. Smallmouth Bass abundance was 0.4–5.6 fish/ha, whereas recaptures of other predator species were insufficient for reliable population estimates. We estimated that Smallmouth Bass consumed 29,930 age‐0 Walleye in 2019 and 12,535 age‐0 Walleye in 2021 (up to 14.7 ± 4.7% of stocked fish), potentially representing an important source of stocking mortality. Conclusion: Our research provides insights into the effects of poststocking predation on age‐0 Walleye by Smallmouth Bass and, to a lesser extent, Walleye, Largemouth Bass, and Northern Pike. Managers should consider predation on stocked fingerling Walleye from resident predators and should contemplate alternative stocking locations or timing to reduce potential predation. Impact statementPredation may influence poststocking survival. We found that Smallmouth Bass were the most common predators of stocked age‐0 Walleye, predation generally occurred within 14 days poststocking, and up to 14.7% of stocked fish were consumed. Establishing chronologies of archaeological sites by using a single dating method may not always reliably constrain the age of a deposit or a fossil, as potential biases may naturally arise, particularly in complex sedimentary settings such as caves. In this study, we performed a multi-technique dating approach that targets different materials in two caves from the Cueva Mayor-Cueva del Silo karst system, Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain. Two new fossil teeth from lithostratigraphic unit LU4 (GE-I pit) at Galería de las Estatuas have been dated by combined U-series/ESR and Amino Acid Racemisation (AAR) methods. The former provides ages of 117 ± 13 and 87 ± 9 ka that agree with previous dating studies of this Neandertal site, confirming the assignment of level LU4 to Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5. In contrast, AAR analyses produce very scattered ages, pointing to significant post-burial chemical modifications in dentine. A first set of ages is presented for the Cata Litario pit at Sala de los Cíclopes, a palaeontological site formed exclusively of cave bear fossils belonging to the Middle Pleistocene species Ursus deningeri. We provide U-series/ESR and AAR ages for two bear teeth from lithostratigraphic unit LU5, and extended-range luminescence ages for the sediment deposits that host, and immediately underlie and overlie, the bear accumulation. Depositional ages of the sediment were obtained using single-grain thermally-transferred optically stimulated luminescence (TT-OSL) dating of individual quartz grains and post-infrared-infrared stimulated luminescence (pIR-IR) dating of K-feldspars. Several speleothems, both in situ and reworked fragments embedded in the different lithostratigraphic units, have additionally been dated by U-series to constrain the timing of the sequence formation. The results indicate that the sediment originally entered the cave between MIS-12 and MIS-10 (444 ± 28 ka to 367 ± 32 ka). Nevertheless, the AAR and U-series/ESR fossil ages, as well as some of the speleothem fragment ages from LUs 5 and 6 are significantly younger. Leaving aside methodologically questionable results for one of the bear tooth samples, the most reliable AAR and U-Series/ESR ages range from 287 ± 23 ka to 256 ± 24, while the speleothem fragments indicate several formation episodes between 444 ± 19 and 284 ± 8 ka. The apparent difference between the U-Series/ESR ages on the fossils and the luminescence ages on the host sediment are not likely to be wholly explained by uncertainties on uranium uptake modelling or gamma dose rate evaluation, and thus is most likely related to taphonomic processes or a complex site formation history. The presence of fossils and eroded speleothem clasts of younger age within these levels is consistent with either an event of prior erosion, transport and resedimentation of LUs 4, 5 and 6, and/or a complex post-depositional mixing history for the stratigraphic sequence at Cata Litario. This study highlights the importance of using different dating methods to reconstruct reliable chronological frameworks, and to understand the geological factors that can affect the dated materials. This includes the accumulation and taphonomic histories of fossils, post-depositional mixing or reworking processes affecting sediments during the residence time within the karst system. Background: Muscle length is a common component of the physical therapy examination, which may include the prone knee flexion (Ely) and active knee extension (AKE) tests. Clinicians using these tests should understand the clinimetric properties. Purpose: To investigate the reliability and minimal detectable change (MDC95) of the Ely and AKE tests. Study Design: Reliability analysis. Methods: Seventy-one asymptomatic adults (mean age 24.6 +/- 2.8 years) were recruited based on a convenience sample. Two examiners each performed the Ely and AKE test one time each in an intrasession design for the interrater reliability component, with one examiner repeating the tests one time 48 hours later to determine the intra-rater reliability. Results were recorded based on one trial per test and utilized a pelvic strap for the Ely test and an adjustable bolster for the AKE test. A separate researcher recorded measurements and results were blinded from the examiners. Results: The Ely test had excellent intra-rater and inter-rater reliability with an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) (3,1) of 0.900 and ICC (2,1) of 0.914 respectively. The intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of the AKE test was good with ICC (3,1) of 0.882 and ICC (2,1) 0.886 respectively. The MDC95 indicated that a change greater than or equal to 8° and 12° is required to exceed the threshold of error for the Ely and AKE test respectively. Conclusion: The Ely and AKE tests have good to excellent inter-rater and intra-rater reliability for measuring rectus femoris and hamstring muscle length when stabilization of the pelvis and hip is accounted for. K+ channels play a fundamental role regulating membrane potential of pulmonary artery (PA) smooth muscle cells and their impairment is a common feature in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). K+ voltage-gated channel subfamily Q (KCNQ1-5) or Kv7 channels and their regulatory subunits subfamily E (KCNE) regulatory subunits are known to regulate vascular tone, but whether Kv7 channel function is impaired in PAH and how this can affect the rationale for targeting Kv7 channels in PAH remains unknown. Here, we have studied the role of Kv7/KCNE subunits in rat PA and their possible alteration in PAH. Using the patch-clamp technique, we found that the total K+ current is reduced in PA smooth muscle cells from pulmonary hypertension animals (SU5416 plus hypoxia) and Kv7 currents made a higher contribution to the net K+ current. Likewise, enhanced vascular responses to Kv7 channel modulators were found in pulmonary hypertension rats. Accordingly, KCNE4 subunit was highly upregulated in lungs from pulmonary hypertension animals and patients. Additionally, Kv7 channel activity was enhanced in the presence of Kv1.5 and TASK-1 channel inhibitors and this was associated with an increased KCNE4 membrane abundance. Compared with systemic arteries, PA showed a poor response to Kv7 channel modulators which was associated with reduced expression and membrane abundance of Kv7.4 and KCNE4. Our data indicate that Kv7 channel function is preserved and KCNE4 is upregulated in PAH. Therefore, compared with other downregulated channels, the contribution of Kv7 channels is increased in PAH resulting in an enhanced sensitivity to Kv7 channel modulators.
