This paper presents the concept of a control strategy for Solar Array (SA) power regulation using an independent Maximum Power Point Tracking system for each Solar Array section in order to maximize the power extracted from every SA sections. Moreover, it allows to distribute the battery charge current between the power sources in order to evenly divide the switching losses on the power semiconductors of the converters and, thus, extending their life time and to reduce the dissipation power. The proposed strategy can be applied to the Power Control Unit designed for satellites with unregulated power bus architecture. Significant simulation results, obtained using a Matlab/Simulink model, demonstrates the validity of the proposed approach.

The multidisciplinary nature of the research in molecular nanoplasmonics, i.e., the use of plasmonic nanostructures to enhance, control, or suppress properties of molecules interacting with light, led to contributions from different theory communities over the years, with the aim of understanding, interpreting, and predicting the physical and chemical phenomena occurring at molecular- and nano-scale in the presence of light. Multiscale hybrid techniques, using a different level of description for the molecule and the plasmonic nanosystems, permit a reliable representation of the atomistic details and of collective features, such as plasmons, in such complex systems. Here, we focus on a selected set of topics of current interest in molecular plasmonics (control of electronic excitations in light-harvesting systems, polaritonic chemistry, hot-carrier generation, and plasmon-enhanced catalysis). We discuss how their description may benefit from a hybrid modeling approach and what are the main challenges for the application of such models. In doing so, we also provide an introduction to such models and to the selected topics, as well as general discussions on their theoretical descriptions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the simplicity of its molecular unit, water is a challenging system because of its uniquely rich polymorphism and predicted but yet unconfirmed features. Introducing a novel space of generalized coordinates that capture changes in the topology of the interatomic network, we are able to systematically track transitions among liquid, amorphous, and crystalline forms throughout the whole phase diagram of water, including the nucleation of crystals above and below the melting point. Our approach, based on molecular dynamics and enhanced sampling or free energy calculation techniques, is not specific to water and could be applied to very different structural phase transitions, paving the way towards the prediction of kinetic routes connecting polymorphic structures in a range of materials.
