The first metallurgic activities in Anatolia appeared in the 8th/7th millennium BC. In the 5th millennium BC and later, metallurgical technologies underwent rapid development. These technological advances can be traced thanks to the workshops and metal finds unearthed in archaeological excavations. On one part of the metal finds uncovered in Anatolia there are variously shaped, simple markings. Even though general consensus attributes these markings to a particular workshop or to a certain smith, the markings known from Anatolia have not yet been examined more thoroughly. Following an exact study of the metal finds from Anatolia of the first half of the 1nd millennium BC, we share the view that the markings found on 18 arrowheads consisting of three notches – just as the markings from early epochs – are symbols used by a certain workshop or a certain smith. These arrowheads, widely distributed in Central and North Anatolia and attributed to the Scythians, are objects that may deliver important clues, not least in terms of the distribution and political activities of these societies in the mid-7th and 6th centuries BC.
