Abstract Prostate cancer (PC) is an epithelial malignancy occurring in the prostate. PC ranks second in incidence among all male malignancies globally by the latest statistics from the World Health Organization. Notably, China has seen a more rapid increase in PC incidence compared to developed European and American nations. By 2022, the newly reported cases and deaths due to PC in China increased to 134,200 and 47,500, respectively. Thus, early diagnosis and standardized treatment for prostate cancer in China remain far-reaching objectives. Burgeoning research on advanced PC and castration-resistant prostate cancer in recent years have paved the way for a new era of integrated treatment methods including novel endocrine drugs, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Future therapies involve precision treatment guided by genetic testing and individualized integrated treatment as part of a multidisciplinary integrated diagnosis and treatment model for PC. The Genitourinary Oncology Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association (CACA-GU) has invited multidisciplinary experts across fields including surgery, oncology, pathology, radiology, herbal medicine, physiatry, and psychology to collaboratively write, discuss, and revise guidelines on managing PC. The CACA Guidelines for Holistic Integrative Management of Prostate Cancer includes epidemiology, screening and diagnosis, treatment for localized PC, diagnosis and treatment of PC recurrence after radical prostatectomy, management of metastatic PC, traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment of PC, and rehabilitation from PC. This guideline aims to standardize the clinical diagnosis and treatment management of PC in China. It is more aligned with China’s clinical practice, highlights Chinese characteristics, and bears significant clinical importance.

The two-dimensional (2D) cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) technique is the reference standard for assessing cardiac function. However, one challenge with 2D cine is that the acquisition time for the whole cine stack is long and requires multiple breath holds, which may not be feasible for pediatric or ill patients. Though single breath-hold multi-slice cine may address the issue, it can only acquire low-resolution images, and hence, affect the accuracy of cardiac function assessment. To address these challenges, a Ferumoxytol-enhanced, free breathing, isotropic high-resolution 3D cine technique was developed. The method produces high-contrast cine images with short acquisition times by using compressed sensing together with a manifold-based method for image denoising. This study included fifteen patients (9.1 $ \pm $ 5.6 yrs.) who were referred for clinical cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with Ferumoxytol contrast and were prescribed the 3D cine sequence. The data was acquired on a 1.5T scanner. Statistical analysis shows that the manifold-based denoised 3D cine can accurately measure ventricular function with no significant differences when compared to the conventional 2D breath-hold (BH) cine. The multiplanar reconstructed images of the proposed 3D cine method are visually comparable to the golden standard 2D BH cine method in terms of clarity, contrast, and anatomical precision. The proposed method eliminated the need for breath holds, reduced scan times, enabled multiplanar reconstruction within an isotropic data set, and has the potential to be used as an effective tool to access cardiovascular conditions.

This article is derived from the presentation titled “Mapping the World of Library Publishing: Revealing the Global Landscape and Collaborative Efforts” delivered during the panel discussion “Working Together to Expand Library Publishing Globally” at the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) 88th IFLA General Conference and Assembly on August 22, 2023, held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. It provides insights into the background and collaborative dynamics among key stakeholders, including the IFLA Library Publishing Special Interest Group, the Library Publishing Coalition, and various international entities working behind the scenes of the Global Library Publishing Map project. The article delves into the project’s development, presenting a comprehensive analysis of all participating libraries and other organizations to unveil the global library publishing landscape as visualized on the Map. Moreover, it addresses the challenges encountered during the creation and maintenance of this Map. Finally, the paper explores the future directions and ongoing work in this important endeavor.

Abstract Background ( −)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a bioactive polyphenol isolated from green tea, has recently garnered attention for its potential protective role against acute myocardial infarction (MI) via inhibiting inflammation. Herein, we tested whether EGCG participates in modulating cardiac ischemia reperfusion-induced injury and elucidate its potential mechanisms. Methods To induce MI in mice, we employed coronary artery ligation, while cell models utilized oxygen glucose deprivation/re-oxygenation (OGD/R)-treated HL-1 cells. TTC, HE and Massion staining evaluated the pathological changes of heart tissues. Besides, RNA-pull down and RIP assays analyzed the interactions of MEG3/TAF15 and AIM2 mRNA/TAF15. FISH associated with immunofiuorescence (IF) double staining was conducted to measure the co-localization of MEG3 and TAF15. Results In vitro and in vivo evidence supported that EGCG treatment improved cardiomyocytes viability while inhibiting the expressions of AIM2, C-caspase-1, ASC, GSDMD-N, IL-18 and IL-1β. Knockdown of MEG3 intensified EGCG's therapeutic effects both in vitro and in vivo. LncRNA MEG3 and AIM2 mRNA interacted with TAF15, and MEG3, in turn, promoted the stability of AIM2 mRNA through regulating TAF15. Overexpression of TAF15 reversed the promoting effect of EGCG and MEG3 knockdown on cell viability, and the inhibiting effect on cell pyroptosis. Conclusion EGCG protected cardiomyocytes from pyroptosis by the MEG3/TAF15/AIM2 axis, indicating EGCG as a potential novel therapeutic strategy for managing MI.

The accurate visualization and assessment of the complex cardiac and pulmonary structures in 3D is critical for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and respiratory disorders. Conventional 3D cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques suffer from long acquisition times, motion artifacts, and limited spatiotemporal resolution. This study proposes a novel time-resolved 3D cardiopulmonary MRI reconstruction method based on spatial transformer networks (STNs) to reconstruct the 3D cardiopulmonary MRI acquired using 3D center-out radial ultra-short echo time (UTE) sequences. The proposed reconstruction method employed an STN-based deep learning framework, which used a combination of data-processing, grid generator, and sampler. The reconstructed 3D images were compared against the start-of-the-art time-resolved reconstruction method. The results showed that the proposed time-resolved 3D cardiopulmonary MRI reconstruction using STNs offers a robust and efficient approach to obtain high-quality images. This method effectively overcomes the limitations of conventional 3D cardiac MRI techniques and has the potential to improve the diagnosis and treatment planning of cardiopulmonary disorders.

BackgroundMetabolic syndrome is a cluster of metabolic disorders, including obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and abnormal lipid levels. However, researches on the association between overall dietary quality measured by the Healthy Eating Index-2015 (HEI-2015) and the risk of metabolic syndrome is still lacking.MethodsThis study utilized data from four cycles (2011-2018) of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database, including 17,582 participants. Logistic regression analysis was employed to explore the correlation between HEI and the risk of metabolic syndrome. Additionally, mediation analysis was conducted to examine the effects of Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and serum uric acid as potential mediators between HEI and metabolic syndrome risk. Weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression evaluated the composite exposure impact of the 13 components of the HEI on metabolic syndrome, as well as the proportion of their weights.ResultsHigher dietary quality measured by HEI-2015 (at the 75th percentile) was negatively correlated with the risk of metabolic syndrome (OR=0.80, 95%CI=0.72-0.89, P=0.003). Abstract To explore the incidence rate (IR), clinicopathological characteristics, and prognostic factors of bladder squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) based on surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database. We extracted the IRs of BSCC from 1975 to 2016 in the SEER database, and plotted the trending curves. Then, the clinicopathological characteristics of BSCC patients diagnosed from 2010 to 2015 were selected and compared with those of patients with urothelial carcinoma (UC) in the same period. Furthermore, differences in overall survival (OS) and cancer‐specific survival (CSS) of BSCC and UC patients were compared. Finally, COX regression models were constructed to explore the risk factors affecting OS and CSS in BSCC patients. The IR of BSCC showed a downward trend from 1975 to 2000 and stabilized at about 0.3/100 000 after 2000. BSCC patients had a later stage at diagnosis and worse prognosis when compared with those with UC. Older age, higher TNM stage, no surgical treatment, and unmarried status were significantly related to worse prognosis of BSCC patients. This study explored the IR trends, clinicopathological characteristics, and prognostic factors of BSCC. In the future, prospective, large sample, and well‐designed clinical studies are needed to verify our results.

This article reflects the initiation, establishment, and development of the International Journal of Librarianship (IJoL), an open access academic journal published by the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA). Sustainability and high quality have been set as the top priorities by the core editorial team throughout the journey of the creation, promotion, and advancement of this journal. The opportunities, challenges, and success are discussed along with the future directions of IJoL. This article contributes to the literature in the creation and development of academic journals, especially the open access publications in library and information science (LIS).

Abstract Background Antagonizing the androgen-receptor (AR) pathway is an effective treatment strategy for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Here, we report the results of a first-in-human phase 1/2 study which assessed the safety, pharmacokinetics, and activity of SHR3680 (a novel AR antagonist) in patients with metastatic CRPC. Methods This phase 1/2 study enrolled patients with progressive metastatic CRPC who had not been previously treated with novel AR-targeted agents. In the phase 1 dose-escalation portion, patients received oral SHR3680 at a starting daily dose of 40 mg, which was subsequently escalated to 80 mg, 160 mg, 240 mg, 360 mg, and 480 mg per day. In phase 2 dose-expansion portion, patients were randomized to receive daily dose of 80 mg, 160 mg, or 240 mg of SHR3680. The primary endpoint in phase 1 was safety and tolerability and in phase 2 was the proportion of patients with a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) response (≥ 50% decrease of PSA level) at week 12. Results A total of 197 eligible patients were enrolled and received SHR3680 treatment, including 18 patients in phase 1 and 179 patients in phase 2. No dose-limiting toxicities were reported and the maximum tolerated dose was not reached. Treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) occurred in 116 (58.9%) patients, with the most common one being proteinuria (13.7%). TRAEs of grade ≥ 3 occurred in only 23 (11.7%) patients, and no treatment-related deaths occurred. Antitumor activities were evident at all doses, including PSA response at week 12 in 134 (68.0%; 95% CI, 61.0–74.5) patients, stabilized bone disease at week 12 in 174 (88.3%; 95% CI, 87.2–95.5) patients, and responses in soft tissue lesions in 21 (34.4%, 95% CI, 22.7–47.7) of 61 patients. Conclusion SHR3680 was well tolerated and safe, with promising anti-tumor activity across all doses tested in patients with metastatic CRPC. The dose of 240 mg daily was recommended for further phase 3 study. Trial registration Clinical trials.gov NCT02691975; registered February 25, 2016.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to evaluate the risk of developing a second primary malignancy (SPM) in oral tongue cancer (OTC) patients, and identify the characteristics and survival outcomes of OTC patients with an SPM. Patients with first primary OTC were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result (SEER) database, and were further divided into the only one primary malignancy (OOPM) group and SPM group. Baseline characteristics and survival outcomes between patients in two groups were compared. Furthermore, a Fine and Gray subdistribution hazard model was utilized to investigate the cumulative risk of developing an SPM in OTC patients. Then, a multivariate competing‐risk model was performed to explore risk predictors. Patients in the SPM group had older age and lower tumor stage than those in the OOPM group. Moreover, the proportion of receiving surgery in the SPM group was significantly higher than that in the OOPM group. Lung was the most common site of SPMs in whole patients. In male patients, the second common site of SPMs was prostate, while in female patients, it was female breast. OTC patients with an SPM of lung and bronchus had the worst overall survival. Finally, older age, male sex, primary site of ventral surface and anterior 2/3 of tongue, localized diseases, and the administration of surgery were considered as risk predictors of developing an SPM in OTC patients. OTC survivors had high risk of developing an SPM, and subsequent malignancy was an important COD. Careful monitoring is warranted in OTC survivors due to the high SPM‐specific mortality.

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a complex combination of physiological, emotional, and behavioral alterations associated with postpartum chemical, social, and psychological variations. It does harm to the relationship between family members that could potentially last for years. However, standard depression treatments are not ideal for PPD, and the outcomes of these treatments are debatable. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an emerging technology that could provide patients with PPD with a safe and non-pharmacological treatment. tDCS can relieve depression by directly stimulating the prefrontal cortex through the excitatory effect of the anode. It may also ease depression indirectly by promoting the production and release of the neurotransmitter GABA. The mechanism of tDCS makes it an ideal therapeutic approach to treat PPD, although it has not been widely used, and its effect has not been evaluated systematically and effectively. A double-blind, randomized controlled trial will be conducted involving 240 tDCS-naive patients with PPD, who will be randomly divided into two groups. One group will receive routine clinical treatment and care with active tDCS, and the other group will receive routine clinical treatment and care with sham tDCS. Each group of patients will receive a 3-week intervention during which they will receive 20 min of active or sham tDCS 6 days per week. The Montgomery–Åsberg Depression Rating Scale will be administered before the intervention as a baseline and on each weekend throughout the intervention phase. Before and after the intervention, the Perceived Stress Scale and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule will be evaluated. Side effects and abnormal reactions will be recorded during each treatment. As antidepressants are banned in the study, the results will not be affected by drugs and will therefore be more accurate. Nonetheless, this experiment will be conducted in a single center as a small sample experiment. Therefore, future studies are required to confirm the effectiveness of tDCS in treating PPD.

ObjectiveTo overview the research actuality and offer the hotspots and cutting-edge issues in the field of Non-suicidal Self-injury (NSSI) by using bibliometric analysis.Materials and methodsPublications related to NSSI from 2002 to 2022 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. CiteSpace V 6.1.R2 and VOSviewer 1.6.18 were used to visually analyzed institutions, countries, journals, authors, references, and keywords in research on NSSI.ResultsA total of 799 studies about NSSI were analyzed via CiteSpace and VOSviewer. The number of annual publications related to NSSI is fluctuating growth. The USA and Harvard University are the most productive country and institutions. In the case of journals and co-cited journals, Psychiatry Research are the most productive journal and also ranked highest among co-cited journals. Furthermore, Michael Kaess has published the most publications, and Matthew K. Nock is the most cited author. An article published by Swannell SV et al. shows the highest citation counts. After analysis, the most common keywords are harm, adolescents and prevalence. The gender difference, diagnosis, and dysregulation are frontier areas of NSSI research.ConclusionThis study analyzed the research of NSSI from multiple perspectives, and provides valuable information for researchers to capture the current status, hot spots, and frontier trends of NSSI.

BackgroundBladder cancer (BC) threatens the health of human beings worldwide because of its high recurrence rate and mortality. As an actionable biomarker, fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) alterations have been revealed as a vital biomarker and associated with favorable outcomes in BC. However, the comprehensive relationship between the FGFR3 alteration associated gene expression profile and the prognosis of BC remains ambiguous.Materials and MethodsGenomic alteration profile, gene expression data, and related clinical information of BC patients were downloaded from The Cancer Genomics database (TCGA), as a training cohort. Subsequently, the Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) was conducted to identify the hub modules correlated with FGFR3 alteration. The univariate, multivariate, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression analyses were used to obtain an FGFR3 alteration-related gene (FARG) prognostic signature and FARG-based nomogram. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used for evaluation of the ability of prognosis prediction. The FARG signature was validated in four independent datasets, namely, GSE13507, GSE31684, GSE32548, and GSE48075, from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Then, clinical feature association analysis, functional enrichment, genomic alteration enrichment, and tumor environment analysis were conducted to reveal differential clinical and molecular characterizations in different risk groups. Lastly, the treatment response was evaluated in the immunotherapy-related dataset of the IMvigor210 cohort and the frontline chemotherapy dataset of GSE48276, and the chemo-drug sensitivity was estimated via Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC).ResultsThere were a total of eleven genes (CERCAM, TPST1, OSBPL10, EMP1, CYTH3, NCRNA00201, PCDH10, GAP43, COLQ, DGKB, and SETBP1) identified in the FARG signature, which divided BC patients from the TCGA cohort into high- and low-risk groups. The Kaplan–Meier curve analysis demonstrated that BC patients in the low-risk group have superior overall survival (OS) than those in the high-risk group (median OS: 27.06 months vs. 104.65 months, p < 0.0001). Moreover, the FARG signature not only showed a good performance in prognosis prediction, but also could distinguish patients with different neoplasm disease stages, notably whether patients presented with muscle invasive phenotype. Compared to clinicopathological features, the FARG signature was found to be the only independent prognostic factor, and subsequently, a FARG-based prognostic nomogram was constructed with better ability of prognosis prediction, indicated by area under ROC curve (AUC) values for 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS of 0.69, 0.71, and 0.79, respectively. Underlying the FARG signature, multiple kinds of metabolism- and immune-related signaling pathways were enriched. Genomic alteration enrichment further identified that FGFR3 alterations, especially c.746C>G (p.Ser249Cys), were more prevalent in the low-risk group. Additionally, FARG score was positively correlated with ESTIMATE and TIDE scores, and the low-risk group had abundant enrichment of plasma B cells, CD8+ T cells, CD4+ naive T cells, and helper follicular T cells, implying that patients in the low-risk group were likely to make significant responses to immunotherapy, which was further supported by the analysis in the IMvigor210 cohort as there was a significantly higher response rate among patients with lower FARG scores. The analysis of the GDSC database finally demonstrated that low-risk samples were more sensitive to methotrexate and tipifarnib, whereas those in the high-risk group had higher sensitivities in cisplatin, docetaxel, and paclitaxel, instead.ConclusionThe novel established FARG signature based on a comprehensive FGFR3 alteration-related transcriptomic profile performed well in prognosis prediction and was also correlated with immunotherapy and chemotherapy treatment responses, which had great potential in future clinical applications.

Abstract This study evaluated the effects of mitral regurgitation (MR) on cardiac structure and function in left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) patients. The clinical and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) data for 182 patients with noncompaction or hypertrabeculation from three institutes were retrospectively included. This paper aims to establish a direct method for evaluating the internal corrosion in submarine pipelines, including four steps: pre-assessment, indirect inspection, detailed inspection, and post-assessment. The evaluation of corrosion severity and the determination of key monitoring points are particularly important in indirect detection. Taking CO2 gathering and transmission pipeline of an offshore oil field as an example, the overall internal corrosion rate of the pipeline is calculated to be 0.253 mm/a. The 12–45 m long pipeline is selected as the focus of corrosion monitoring. Through the comparative analysis of internal detection data and loss wall thickness, it is found that the results of indirect evaluation and direct evaluation are consistent, indicating the correctness of corrosion rate prediction model and loss wall thickness calculation method. The pipeline reevaluation time is five years. The evaluation method can accurately predict the corrosion status of multiphase flow pipeline and locate the corrosion.

Background Dual blockade of immune checkpoint and angiogenesis is an effective strategy for multiple cancers. Camrelizumab is a monoclonal antibody against PD-1, and famitinib is a multitargeted receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor with antiangiogenesis and antiproliferation activities against tumor cells. We conducted an open-label, multicenter phase 2 basket study of camrelizumab and famitinib in eight cohorts of genitourinary or gynecological cancers. Here, findings in cohort of advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma with platinum-progressive disease (cohort 2) are presented.Methods Patients who had progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy for advanced or metastatic disease or had progressed within 12 months after completion of platinum-based (neo)adjuvant therapy were given camrelizumab (200 mg intravenously every 3 weeks) plus famitinib (20 mg orally once daily). Primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) per Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors version 1.1.Results Totally, 36 patients were recruited. With a median duration from enrollment to data cut-off of 11.9 months (range 6.1–28.5), ORR was 30.6% (95% CI 16.3% to 48.1%). Median duration of response (DoR) was 6.3 months (95% CI 2.1 to not reached). Median progression-free survival (PFS) was 4.1 months (95% CI 2.2 to 8.2), and median overall survival (OS) was 12.9 months (95% CI 8.8 to not reached). Patients with bladder cancer (n=18) had numerically better outcomes, with an ORR of 38.9% (95% CI 17.3% to 64.3%) and a median PFS of 8.3 months (95% CI 4.1 to not reached). Median DoR and OS in this subpopulation had not been reached with lower limit of 95% CI of 4.2 months for DoR and 11.3 months for OS, respectively. Of 36 patients, 22 (61.1%) had grade 3 or 4 treatment-related adverse events, mainly decreased platelet count and hypertension.Conclusions Camrelizumab plus famitinib showed potent antitumor activity in advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma patients after platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients with bladder cancer seemed to have better response to this combination.Trial registration number NCT03827837.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a coronary artery-related disease and ranks as the leading cause of sudden death globally. Resveratrol (Res) is a bioactive component and has presented antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. However, the effect of Res on ferroptosis during MI progression remains elusive. Here, we aimed to explore the function of Res in the regulation of ferroptosis and myocardial injury in MI. We observed that the treatment of Res attenuated the MI-related myocardium injury and fibrosis in the rats. The expression of collagen 1 and α-SMA was induced in MI rats, in which the treatment of Res could decrease the expression. Treatment of Res suppressed the levels of IL-6 and IL-1β in MI rats. The GSH levels were inhibited and MDA, lipid ROS, and Fe2+ levels were induced in MI rats, in which the treatment of Res could reverse the phenotypes. Meanwhile, the expression of GPX4 and SLC7A11 was reduced in MI rats, while the treatment of Res could rescue the expression in the model. Meanwhile, Res relieved oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-induced cardiomyocyte injury. Importantly, Res repressed OGD-induced cardiomyocyte ferroptosis in vitro. Mechanically, we identified that Res was able to enhance GPX4 expression by inducing KAT5 expression. We confirmed that KAT5 alleviated OGD-induced cardiomyocyte injury and ferroptosis. The depletion of KAT5 or GPX4 could reverse the effect of Res on OGD-induced cardiomyocyte injury. Thus, we concluded that Res attenuated myocardial injury by inhibiting ferroptosis via inducing KAT5/GPX4 in myocardial infarction. Our finding provides new evidence of the potential therapeutic effect of Res on MI by targeting ferroptosis.

Kernel based regularized interpolation is one of the most important methods for approximating functions. The theory behind the kernel based regularized interpolation is the well-known Representer Theorem, which shows the form of approximation function in the reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. Because of the advantages of the kernel based regularized interpolation, it is widely used in many mathematical and engineering applications, for example, dimension reduction and dimension estimation. However, the performance of the approximation is not fully understood from the theoretical perspective. In other word, the error analysis for the kernel based regularized interpolation is lacking. In this paper, some error bounds in terms of the reproducing kernel Hilbert space norm and Sobolev space norm are given to understand the behavior of the approximation function.

The main focus of this work is to introduce a single free-breathing and ungated imaging protocol to jointly estimate cardiac function and myocardial T1 maps. We reconstruct a time series of images corresponding to k-space data from a free-breathing and ungated inversion recovery gradient echo sequence using a manifold algorithm. We model each image in the time series as a non-linear function of three variables: cardiac and respiratory phases and inversion time. The non-linear function is realized using a convolutional neural networks (CNN) generator, while the CNN parameters, as well as the phase information, are estimated from the measured k-t space data. We use a dense conditional auto-encoder to estimate the cardiac and respiratory phases from the central multi-channel k-space samples acquired at each frame. The latent vectors of the auto-encoder are constrained to be bandlimited functions with appropriate frequency bands, which enables the disentanglement of the latent vectors into cardiac and respiratory phases, even when the data are acquired with intermittent inversion pulses. Once the phases are estimated, we pose the image recovery as the learning of the parameters of the CNN generator from the measured k-t space data. The learned CNN generator is used to generate synthetic data on demand by feeding it with appropriate latent vectors. The proposed approach capitalizes on the synergies between cine MRI and T1 mapping to reduce the scan time and improve patient comfort. The framework also enables the generation of synthetic breath-held cine movies with different inversion contrasts, which improves the visualization of the myocardium. In addition, the approach also enables the estimation of the T1 maps with specific phases, which is challenging with breath-held approaches.

Free-breathing and ungated cardiac MRI is a challenging problem due to the cardiac motion and respiration motion, which are not tracked. In this work, we propose an unsupervised deep kernel method for reconstructing real-time free-breathing and ungated cardiac MRI from highly undersampled k-t space measurements. We propose implementing the feature map and kernel function in the kernel method using CNNs. The parameters of the CNNs are learned from specific-subject data directly. Comparisons with state-of-the-art kernel methods show improved performance of the proposed deep kernel method.

Millepachine, a bioactive natural product isolated from the seeds of Millettia pachycarpa, is reported to display potential antitumor activity. In this study, novel indole-containing hybrids derived from millepachine were designed, synthesized and evaluated for their antitumor activities. Among all the compounds, compound 14b exhibited the most potent cytotoxic activity against five kinds of human cancer cell lines, with IC50 values ranging from 0.022 to 0.074 μM, making it almost 100 times more active than millepachine. Valuable structure–activity relationships (SARs) were obtained. Furthermore, the mechanism studies showed that compound 14b induced cell-cycle arrest at the G2/M phase by inhibiting tubulin polymerization and further induced cell apoptosis through reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) collapse. In addition, the low cytotoxicity toward normal human cells and equivalent sensitivity towards drug-resistant cells of compound 14b highlighted its potential for the development of antitumor drugs.

This study examined whether and how closeness affected the calculation and selection processes underlying perspective taking. Using the visual dot perspective taking task, we introduced a close friend and a stranger from the participants' university as the perspective-taking targets. Friend and stranger trials were mixed in a block in Experiment 1 but separated in different blocks in Experiment 2. Results revealed a significant effect of closeness on egocentric but not altercentric interference. The analyses on other-consistent and other-inconsistent trials suggested that closeness impeded responding from the avatar's perspective when self and other perspectives differed but facilitated responding from the avatar's perspective when self and other perspectives were consistent. However, the analyses on self-consistent and self-inconsistent trials revealed that the processing cost induced by implicit perspective calculation and other-inhibition was comparable between friends and strangers. These suggested that closeness selectively impeded self-perspective inhibition whereas facilitated explicit perspective calculation.

Background: Nerol was reported as a natural anti-oxidant product and its protective effects against cardiovascular diseases have been documented. Our current study was designed to explore the cardioprotective effect of Nerol on hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cell apoptosis in H9c2 cells. The potential molecular mechanisms were further investigated. Methods: The cells were treated with 2.5 or 5 µM Nerol before or after H/R. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, cell viability, oxidative stress markers, and apoptotic proteins were assessed by cell counting kit-8, LDH release assay, commercial kits, and Western blot, respectively. To explore the underlying mechanism, the phosphorylation of p85 and p38, regulatory subunits of phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), was evaluated by Western blot. To further confirm that the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway participated in the cardiomyocyte protection, H9c2 cells were treated with 5 µM Nerol in the presence or absence of 5 µM BEZ235 or LY294002 followed by H/R treatment. Results: H/R remarkably induced apoptosis, LDH release and ROS production. The cell viability was suppressed via inhibiting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway activation. By contrast, pretreatment with Nerol can neutralize these effects by activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. With the addition of BEZ235 or LY294002, the inhibitory effects of Nerol were abolished. Conclusion: Nerol provided promising cardioprotective effect against H/R-induced injuries in H9c2 cells by activating the PI3K/AKT pathway.

Performance appraisal is a key link in the performance payment mechanism of government-paid Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects. As the performance appraisal of PPP projects is highly professional and complex, it is usually necessary to introduce a third-party performance appraisal institution to evaluate the project outputs of the private investor. However, driven by economic rent, the private investor has the incentive to seek rent from the third party in the performance appraisal process, leading to the low overall performance level of PPP projects and the inability to achieve the PPP performance appraisal goal effectively. To explore how to avoid rent-seeking in performance appraisal and improve the overall performance of government-paid PPP projects, a tripartite evolutionary game model between the behaviour, third party, and the public sector has been constructed. Based on the evolutionary game model, this study analyses the evolutionary stability of each player's strategy, discusses the influence of various factors on the strategy selection of the three-party, and further analyses the stability of the equilibrium point of the three-party game system. The findings reveal that the public sector can slow down the rent-seeking behaviour of the private sector by setting up a reasonable reward and punishment mechanism. The design of a reasonable reward and punishment mechanism must meet the following conditions: (1) the sum of the reward and punishment of all parties is greater than the speculative income; (2) the amount of performance fee withheld for the private investor is greater than the difference between the project operating cost saved and the speculation cost. The research provides technical support for the design of the performance appraisal mechanism of government-paid PPP projects.

Objective This study was performed to compare the clinical outcomes, advantages, and disadvantages of laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) and transcervical resection of myoma (TCRM) in the treatment of type II submucous myoma. Methods In total, 136 patients with type II submucous myoma with a tumour diameter of 4 to 5 cm were randomly assigned to the hysteroscopy group or laparoscopy group. Results The operative duration was shorter and the intraoperative bleeding volume was lower in the hysteroscopy than laparoscopy group. The success rate of the single-stage operation was obviously higher in the laparoscopy than hysteroscopy group. The duration of postoperative antibiotic use and the length of hospital stay were shorter in the hysteroscopy than laparoscopy group. The time to complete healing of the muscle layer was shorter in the hysteroscopy than laparoscopy group. The rate of intraoperative complications was lower in the hysteroscopy than laparoscopy group. Conclusion Both hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery have beneficial effects in the treatment of type II submucous myoma. Hysteroscopic surgery has the advantages of a short operative duration, low intraoperative bleeding volume, fast postoperative recovery, and high quality of life. Laparoscopic surgery involves many intraoperative complications and slow recovery of ovarian function.

Traditional knowledge organization systems (KOS) including thesauri, classification schemes, taxonomies, subject heading systems, name authorities, and other lists of terms and codes have been playing important roles in indexing, information organization, and retrieval. With the advent of the semantic web, a large number of them have been converted into Linked Open Data (LOD) datasets. Since the Simple Knowledge Organization Systems (SKOS) and SKOS eXtension for Labels (SKOS-XL) are languages for representation of knowledge organization systems, they have been applied to knowledge organization systems. In this article, the issues surrounding changes, versioning control, and evolution of KOS are investigated. From KOS services providers and consumers perspectives, this study focuses on representation of changes on the semantic web.

Various feeder layers have been extensively applied to support the prolonged growth of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) for in vitro cultures. Among them, mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) and mouse fibroblast cell line (SNL) are most commonly used feeder cells for hPSCs culture. However, these feeder layers from animal usually cause immunogenic contaminations, which compromises the potential of hPSCs in clinical applications. In the present study, we tested human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) as a potent xeno-free feeder system for maintaining human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). The hUC-MSCs showed characteristics of MSCs in xeno-free culture condition. On the mitomycin-treated hUC-MSCs feeder, hiPSCs maintained the features of undifferentiated human embryonic stem cells (hESCs), such as low efficiency of spontaneous differentiation, stable expression of stemness markers, maintenance of normal karyotypes, in vitro pluripotency and in vivo ability to form teratomas, even after a prolonged culture of more than 30 passages. Our study indicates that the xeno-free culture system may be a good candidate for growth and expansion of hiPSCs as the stepping stone for stem cell research to further develop better and safer stem cells.

OBJECTIVE:This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of plastic wrap applied after birth and during NICU in preterm infants for prevention of heat loss in preterm infants. STUDY METHODS:The Medline (1950 to August 2015), the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL, Issue 7, 2015), CINAHL (1982 to August 2015) and the Embase (1974 to August 2015) databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or quasi-RCTs with main outcomes related to the core temperature (baseline temperature and/or post-stabilization temperature), hypothermia, mortality rate and hyperthermia. RESULT:The included studies were of low to moderate quality. Compared with unwrapped infants, plastic wrap was associated with a significantly higher baseline temperature and post-stabilization temperature both in infants < 28 weeks of gestation (mean difference [MD] = 0.62, 95% CI 0.38 to 0.85; MD = 0.41, 95% CI 0.33 to 0.50, respectively), and in infants between 28 to 34 weeks of gestation (MD = 0.54, 95% CI 0.21 to 0.87; MD = 0.64, 95% CI 0.45 to 0.82, respectively). Use of plastic wrap was associated with lower incidence of hypothermia (relative risk [RR] = 0.70, 95% CI 0.63 to 0.78). However, use of plastic wrap in preterm infants was not associated with decrease in mortality (RR: 0.88, 95% CI 0.70 to 1.12, P = 0.31). Incidence of hyperthermia was significantly higher in the plastic wrap group as compared to that in the control group (RR = 2.55, 95% CI: 1.56 to 4.15, P = 0.0002). Hyperthermia in the plastic wrap group was resolved within one or two hours after unwrapping the babies. CONCLUSION:Plastic wrap can be considered an effective and safe additional intervention to prevent hypothermia in preterm infants. However, its cost-effectiveness and long-term effect on mortality needs to be ascertained by conducting well-designed studies with longer follow-up period.

Periodontal ligament cell (PDLC) sheets have been shown to contribute to periodontal tissue regeneration. Dental follicle cells (DFCs), acknowledged as the precursor cells of PDLCs, have demonstrated stemness, embryonic features, heterogeneity, and pluripotency. Therefore, we hypothesized that DFC sheets might be more effective and suitable for periodontal tissue regeneration than PDLC sheets. In this study, we compared the biological characteristics of DFC sheets and PDLC sheets in vitro. To investigate the potential for periodontal tissue regeneration in vivo, complexes composed of two types of cell sheets combined with dentin matrix were implanted subcutaneously into nude mice for 6 weeks. Our results showed that, when forming cell sheets, DFCs secreted richer extracellular matrix than PDLCs. And compared to DFCs, DFC sheets expressed high levels of calcification-related genes, including alkaline phosphatase ( alp ), bone sialoprotein ( bsp ), osteopontin ( opn ), runt-related transcription factor ( runx2 ), as well as the periodontal ligament-specific genes collagen III ( col III ) and periostin , while the gene expression of bsp , osteocalcin ( ocn ), and opn were greatly increased in PDLC sheets, when compared to PDLCs. col I expression did not change significantly. However, cementum protein 23 ( cp-23 ) expression increased several fold in PDLC sheets compared to PDLCs but decreased in DFC sheets compared to DFCs. DFC and PDLC sheets were both positive for Collagen I (Col I), cementum attachment protein (CAP), ALP, BSP, OCN, and OPN protein expression, and Col I, ALP, BSP, and OPN expression were increased after cell sheets were formed. Furthermore, the levels of laminin and fibronectin were higher in DFCs and DFC sheets than that of PDLCs and PDLC sheets, respectively. In vivo, DFC and PDLC sheets could both regenerate periodontal tissue-like structures, but DFC sheets demonstrated stronger periodontal regeneration potential than PDLC sheets. Therefore, DFC sheets derived from discarded dental follicle tissue after tooth extraction may be more advantageous for clinical periodontal tissue regeneration in the future.

Common carp are among the oldest domesticated fish in the world. As such, there are many food and ornamental carp strains with abundant phenotypic variations due to natural and artificial selection. Hebao red carp (HB, Cyprinus carpio wuyuanensis), an indigenous strain in China, is renowned for its unique body morphology and reddish skin. To reveal the genetic basis underlying the distinct skin color of HB, we constructed an improved highfidelity (HiFi) HB genome with good contiguity, completeness, and correctness. Genome structure comparison was conducted between HB and a representative wild strain, Yellow River carp (YR, C. carpio haematopterus), to identify structural variants and genes under positive selection. Signatures of artificial selection during domestication were identified in HB and YR populations, while phenotype mapping was performed in a segregating population generated by HB×YR crosses. Body color in HB was associated with regions with fixed mutations. The simultaneous mutation and superposition of a pair of homologous genes (mitfa) in chromosomes A06 and B06 conferred the reddish color in domesticated HB. Transcriptome analysis of common carp with different alleles of the mitfa mutation confirmed that gene duplication can buffer the deleterious effects of mutation in allotetraploids. Tigecycline is a broad-spectrum active intravenous antibiotic that is active against methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus. In Phase 3 and 4 clinical trials, increased all-cause mortality was observed in patients treated with tigecycline compared to patients in the control group. The reason for the increase is unclear. In this study, we found that tigecycline cause abnormal coagulation in tumor patients, especially in patients with hematological malignancies. The main manifestations were decreased fibrinogen and prolonged activated prothrombin time (APTT), thrombin time (TT), and D-dimer. In addition, through functional studies, we found that tigecycline inhibit platelet adhesion and aggregation, and the coagulation function of patients gradually recover after discontinuation. Gene sequencing results suggested that tigecycline significantly regulate the expression of genes related to platelet function pathways and increase the incidence of single nucleotide polymorphisms and the number of alternative splices in the Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells treated with tigecycline. An abnormal function and low numbers of platelets are common in patients with hematological malignancies. Our study can explain the mechanism of abnormal coagulation caused by tigecycline. Fe-N-C catalysts have achieved great progress in terms of catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acidic conditions, but their unsatisfactory durability has not been improved yet. Here, we rationally introduce Co atoms adjacent to Fe-N4 moieties to construct a dual-metal site catalyst with FeCoN6 configuration, which has been validated by synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Spectroscopic analysis reveals that the vicinal effect of Co atoms on the Fe-N4 active site increases the electron density around the Fe center, which confers extraordinary durability with only -11 mV decay in half-wave potential (E1/2) after a 10 000 cycle durability test and superb ORR activity with a E1/2 of 0.842 V. Theoretical calculations reveal that the vicinal Co atom not only prevents Fe dissolution by inhibiting *O(OH) intermediate formation but also facilitates the desorption of *OH from Fe-N4, simultaneously boosting the ORR durability and activity. Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a potentially life-threatening vascular abnormality, that, if ruptured, is almost universally fatal without repair, and is associated with up to 50% mortality even if repaired in hospital. To date, there is no drug therapy that has clinically proven benefit to reduce or prevent expansion of AAA. The aim of this study was to investigate whether Daxx could affect AAA through inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/ID2 signaling pathway mediated by transforming growth factor β-1 (TGFβ1). Methods: The AAA model was constructed by injecting angiotensinⅡ(Ang-Ⅱ) into rats, and the Daxx lentivirus vector was constructed. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining was used to detect the wall thickness of the abdominal aorta in rats. The gene and protein expressions in abdominal aortic tissues were detected utilizing western blot, immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Finally, the concentration of TGF-β1 in abdominal aortic tissue was determined by ELISA. Results: The abdominal aortic wall thickness was decreased in the Daxx expression group (by HE staining), and Daxx overexpression markedly reduced the protein expression levels of MMP2 and MMP9. Proteins related to the PI3K/AKT/ID2 signaling pathway were highly enhanced in the aneurysm wall of rats, but were reduced following Daxx addition. Moreover, Daxx reduced the damage to elastin (by IHC), and the expression levels of a-SMA and SM22a were up-regulated by Daxx (by qRT-PCR). The concentration of TGF-β1 was correlated with the activation of the PI3K/AKT/ID2 signaling pathway (by ELISA), whereas AKT overexpression weakened the inhibitory effect of Daxx. Conclusion: Daxx ameliorated several mechanisms that contributed to expansion of AAA suppressing the tissue concentration of TGF-β1, thereby inhibiting the activation of the PI3K/AKT/ID2 signaling pathway. Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a chronic dilated disease of the aorta that is characterized by chronic inflammation. Curcumin (Cur) is previously showed to attenuate AAA by inhibiting inflammatory response in ApoE -/- mice. Since Cur has the limitations of aqueous solubility and instability. Here, we focus on the role of curcumin nicotinate (CurTn), a Cur derivative is derived from Cur and nicotinate. An in vitro model of AAA was established by treating vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) with II (Ang-II). Gene and protein expressions were examined by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) or western blotting. Cell migration and pyroptosis were determined by transwell assay and f low cytometry. The interaction between plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (PVT1), miR-26a and krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) was predicted by online prediction tool and confirmed by luciferase reporter assay. CurTn reduced Ang-II-induced AAA-associated proteins, inflammatory cytokine expressions, and attenuated pyroptosis in VSMCs. PVT1 overexpression suppressed the inhibitory effect of CurTn on AngII-induced pyroptosis and inflammatory in VSMCs by sponging miR-26a. miR-26a directly targeted KLF4 and suppressed its expression, which eventually led to the deactivation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Besides, the regulatory effect of CurTn on pyroptosis of VSMCs induced by Ang-II was reversed through the PVT1/miR-26a/KLF4 pathway. In short, CurTn suppressed VSMCs pyroptosis and inflammation though mediation PVT1/miR-26a/KLF4 axis by regulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, CurTn might consider as a potential therapeutic target in the treatment of AAA. In this paper, extracts from male zooid of Antheraea pernyi (EMZAP) were investigated for their antiobesity activity in C57BL/6 male mice. Mice were randomly divided into 4 groups and fed on basal control group diet (Control Group), high-fat diet (Model Group), high-fat diet containing high dose of EMZAP (High Group), and high-fat diet containing low dose of EMZAP (Low Group), respectively. The levels of serum lipid, antioxidant capacity, body weight, and adipose weight were measured. The levels of expression of genes involved in cholesterol metabolism were also determined by Real-Time PCR. The results showed that EMZAP could reduce body weight and epididymal adipose weight of mice on fed high-fat diet, and also decrease serum lipid levels in mice with induced obesity. Treatment with EMZAP also produced significant amelioration of lipid accumulation and improved the antioxidant capacity in the liver. EMZAP reduced the expression of HMG-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA-R) and increased the expression of cholesterol 7-alpha hydroxylase (CYP7A1) and LDL receptor (LDLR). But it has no obvious effect on the expression of LXR-. According to the above results, EMZAP had good anti-obesity attributes and improvement in conditions arising out of cholesterol accumulation.
