The main goal of this study was to compare and describe the non-COVID-19 patient’s disease severity presentation during the pandemic with its pre-pandemic severity.Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study. We selected two samples of visits: one during the first COVID-19 wave of 2020 (pandemic period, PP) and the other during the same months of 2019 (control period, CP). The primary endpoints were the comparison of severity and distribution of the Emergency Severity Index (ESI). Secondary endpoints were comparisons of specific patient characteristics (age, sex, length of the symptoms before the visits, spontaneous visits or not, return home or not).Results: The mean ESI of the visits during the PP (3.19) was statistically significantly lower (P = 0.001) than it was in the CP (3.43). These changes were more pronounced during the months of March (3.03 versus 3.33, P = 0.037) and April (2.96 versus 3.48, P < 0.001). The change in ESI was mainly due to an increase in the proportion of visits by patients with an ESI score of 3 (42% versus 28%, P < 0.001). There were no differences in the characteristics of patients except a decline in patients whose symptoms had a duration of more than 30 days (2% during PP versus 4% during CP, P = 0.03).Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic caused a change in the pattern of non-COVID-19 visits, with proportionally more severe presentations based on the ESI. To our knowledge, this is the first description of changes in behaviour in ED visits by specifically non-COVID-19 patients.Keywords: COVID-19, emergency visits, epidemiology, Emergency Severity Index

In the quest for the faint primordial B-mode polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background, three are the key requirements for any present or future experiment: an utmost sensitivity, excellent control over instrumental systematic effects and over Galactic foreground contamination. Bolometric Interferometry (BI) is a novel technique that matches them all by combining the sensitivity of bolometric detectors, the control of instrumental systematics from interferometry and a software-based, tunable, in-band spectral resolution due to its ability to perform band-splitting during data analysis (spectral imaging). In this paper, we investigate how the spectral imaging capability of BI can help in detecting residual contamination in case an over-simplified model of foreground emission is assumed in the analysis. To mimic this situation, we focus on the next generation of ground-based CMB experiment, CMB-S4, and compare its anticipated sensitivities, frequency and sky coverage with a hypothetical version of the same experiment based on BI, CMB-S4/BI, assuming that lineof-sight (LOS) frequency decorrelation is present in dust emission but is not accounted for during component separation. We show results from a Monte-Carlo analysis based on a parametric component separation method (FGBuster), highlighting how BI has the potential to diagnose the presence of foreground residuals in estimates of the tensor-to-scalar ratio r in the case of unaccounted Galactic dust LOS frequency decorrelation.

The Q&U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QL’BIC) is the first bolometric interferometer designed to measure the primordial B-mode polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Bolometric interferometry is a novel technique that combines the sensitivity of bolometric detectors with the control of systematic effects that is typical of interferometry, both key features in the quest for the faint signal of the primordial B-modes. A unique feature is the so-called “spectral imaging”, i.e., the ability to recover the sky signal in several sub-bands within the physical band during data analysis. This feature provides an in-band spectral resolution of ∆v/v ~ 0.04 that is unattainable by a traditional imager. This is a key tool for controlling the Galactic foregrounds contamination. In this paper, we describe the principles of bolometric interferometry, the current status of the QU BIC experiment and future prospects.

Front line treatment consisted of radiotherapy alone for 3 patients (2%), chemotherapy alone for 74 patients (47%) and combined modalities for 80 patients (51%). The management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) complicated with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) remains challenging, particularly in non-city areas (Fig. 1). The implementation of appropriate treatment strategies for improving pre-hospital emergency care is fundamental. Little is known about the resuscitation performances of emergency medical service (EMS) teams in sparsely populated areas. Built at the top of a hill, the location of our institution consists of rural areas with a low population density. Established in 1903, the hospital was initially founded to treat patients suffering from tuberculosis. To identify parameters influencing the 30-day outcome after sudden coronary death in non-city areas. Retrospective single-centre study including 40 patients resuscitated from OHCA after ACS. Resuscitation settings, time intervals, blood samples, cardiac findings and clinical outcomes at 30 days were analyzed. 30-day mortality was more likely associated with the following parameters: unwitnessed collapse, km, NF/LF duration, epinephrine dose, time to cath lab, gender, asystole, recurrent cardiac arrest, shock, lactate level, LVEF and LAD culprit lesion. Particularly, remoteness from hospital and prolonged pre-hospital management (duration of CPR, delayed cath lab admission) were predictors of early mortality (Table 1). Remoteness from hospital, duration of resuscitation on-site and time to cath lab admission may represent major determinants of clinical outcomes beyond the usual prognostic factors. The relationship between early mortality and duration of NF, non-shockable rhythm, hemodynamic instability and lactate level may reflect the impact of prolonged time intervals during the pre-hospital phase of management. EMS teams should focus on improving pre-hospital response times and optimizing cardiac cath lab activation. Further RCTs should evaluate the impact of the 'scoop and run' approach versus the 'stay and play' approach in this setting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have developed a method that enables computing double-couple focal mechanisms with only a few sensors. This method is based on a non-linear inversion of the P, Sv and Sh amplitudes of microseismic events recorded on a set of sensors. The information brought by the focal mechanism enables determining the geometry of the rupture on the associated geological structure. It also provides a better estimate of the conventional source parameters. Full analysis has been performed on a data set of 15 microseismic events recorded in the brine production field of Vauvert. The microseismic monitoring network consisted of two permanent tools and one temporary borehole string. The majority of the focal mechanisms computed from both permanent tools are similar to those computed from the whole network. This result indicates that the double-couple focal mechanism determination is reliable for both permanent 3C receivers in this field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
