The article deals with the parish schools development in Russia in the last third of the XIX century. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the church school development during the period of office of I. D. Delyanov as the Minister of Education (1880-1890) and the transition of the parish and peasant literacy schools under the jurisdiction of the Holy Synod, thus giving the primary education an ecclesiastical character. The measures taken by the government and by the Synod in order to raise the parish educational level, the place of the parish schools in the educational process (spiritual, moral and intellectual education) and the contribution towards reducing the illiteracy of the population are considered in this work. The works of the researchers of late XIX-early XXI centuries are used as materials. The materials of the periodical press are the most essential, for example, the "Pribavleniya k tserkovnym vedomostyam". Personal materials, such as letters and recollections were also used in the work. In conclusion, the authors sum up that in the last third of the XIX century the parish school underwent a complex transformation and became an important part of the pre-revolutionary national educational system. Due to this it was involved in the educational activities, especially for children.

The article deals with Christian-pagan sacred places and Caucasus traditions in the 19th century. The authors pay attention to the structure of the pagan temples and their characteristic regional features, and they study the traditions and the role of the local clergy in the life of society. Materials of personal origin (memoirs and diary entries) of emissaries, scouts and travellers in the 19th century were used as sources in the research. These materials allow us to get an idea about the structure of the temples and ceremonies that were held around them. In addition, materials of archaeological research, as well as modern scientific publications, were used for this study. In solving research problems, both general scientific methods (analysis and synthesis, concretization, generalization) as well as traditional methods of historical analysis were applied. The work uses the historical-situational method, which involves the study of historical facts in the context of the studied era in conjunction with “neighbouring” events and facts. The application of this method allowed the authors to understand the role of the pagan temples and their priests in preparation of the highlanders to assault their neighbours. In conclusion, the authors note that pagan temples were built in many parts of the Caucasus region: in Circassia, Abkhazia, Georgia, and Ossetia. However, until the end of the 19th century, they remained only in the most remote and impassable parts of the mountainous regions. The reasons for this were the enormous social upheaval in the Caucasus, the civil war in Circassia and the religious persecution of the old Christian-pagan clergy.

This article examines ethno-demographic processes in the north-east Black Sea area, more specifically the territory of Greater Sochi, in the 19th - early 21th centuries. In writing the article, the authors have relied on archive materials from the archives department of the administration of the city of Novorossiysk and the archives department of the administration of the city of Sochi. The authors have consulted reference pre-revolution literature, Soviet-era and present-day population censuses, as well as the findings of present-day research studies. The methodological basis of this study are the principles of historicism, objectivity, and systemicity, which helps to get an insight into the general patterns and regional peculiarities in the demographic development of the major ethnicities in the north-east Black Sea area in the 19th-20th centuries. The authors touch upon the process of colonization of the territory and its ethnic composition. In the end, the authors come to the conclusion that the ethno-demographic picture of Greater Sochi had been forming in a complicated fashion. As a consequence, in the second half of the 19th century, following the Caucasian War, the territory had to be repopulated. Resettlement flows from different locations in the Russian Empire and overseas had formed by 1917 an ethno-picture that featured Russians and Armenians as two principal ethnicities. The authors reviews Central and Eastern European scholar's scientific papers of Soviet history and the history of communism in which Stalinism is treated as a special object of study or considered in the context of the other problems of Soviet, European and world history. The study focuses on the scientific literature (monographs, journal articles, collections of articles), prepared and published in the Central and Eastern Europe in the second half of the 1980s to the present day. Thus, it is possible to speak of a new component of the European historiography of Stalinism. The conditions of modern methodological pluralism provide a choice of integrated multi-disciplinary approach as a concrete methodology of historiographical research. This allows attracting theoretical ideas and techniques of other fields of scientific knowledge for the study of historical processes. Today, the situation in science is such that it is necessary to hear different voices, to be able let in the "other" in your discourse. The study of European historiography of Stalinism enables us to connect the historical, political, anthropological, psychological, and cultural components. Each of them played a role in a particular segment of the discipline development, and in the formation of a collective historical memory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
