Objectives: In cell-free and concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART), the protein recovery rate decreases when the filtration membrane gets clogged. Employing a device with a filtration membrane washing feature prevents clogging, but it leads to the loss of ascites within the filter, resulting in reduced protein recovery. This study employed a device with a membrane washing function to investigate the relationship between protein recovery rate and the quantity of washing solution used, depending on the selected washing method. Methods: We analyzed cases of CART conducted at Fujita Health University Hospital between May 2021 and November 2022. The cases were divided and compared between two groups: one using flush and rinse as the washing method (flush+rinse group) and another using only flushing (flush group). Results: We identified nine cases and 16 sessions. Numerous studies have shown that the representation of temporal concepts is associated with spatial features such as position and size. In a conventional task called the “Circle Test (CT),” participants are asked to express the relative importance of the past, present, and future and to demonstrate relationships among them by drawing three circles representing the past, present, and future. Studies on various participants, including refugees, patients living with serious illnesses, and adolescents, have used it to understand the temporal perspectives of different test takers. On the other hand, several studies have suggested that concepts of time are represented in three-dimensional (3D) space. It is expected that temporal concepts of the past, present, and future could be recorded using a 3D drawing task. Here we created a 3D version of CT (the “Sphere Test [ST]”) to investigate the sagittal representation of time and to record the relative time importance and relatedness, allowing for the shielding relationships and the laws of perspective. We conducted experiments with university students to compare the results from the CT and the ST. Our results suggested that not all on-screen overlapping can be interpreted as representing a connection between two time zones in 3D space. We also found correlations between the chosen sizes of the three circles in the CT and ST, i.e., the on-screen sizes of the past and present circles were positively correlated. In contrast, we observed no correlation between the on-screen sizes of the future circles in the two tests. The alignment pattern along the sagittal axis showed different patterns from the horizontal and vertical axes. In conclusion, this study sheds new light on the third dimension of the spatial representation of time and may help us understand the relationship between temporal perspectives and other factors, including mental health.

The present study aimed to investigate whether individuals with high social anxiety prefer robots over humans as their exercise/sports partner. This study included a questionnaire survey with 520 Japanese participants (mean age=44.39, SD=14.33). The results showed that for all exercise-/sports-related situations, participants who selected robots as exercise/sports partners scored significantly higher on the SIAS-6 assessing social anxiety than the participants who selected humans. It can be concluded that introducing robots as exercise/sport partners may help people with high social anxiety start and continue their daily physical activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We found that children sometimes abused a social robot placed in a shopping mall hallway. They verbally abused the robot, repeatedly obstructed its path, and sometimes even kicked and punched the robot. To investigate the reasons for the abuse, we conducted a field study in which we interviewed visiting children who exhibited serious abusive behaviors, including physical contact. We analyzed interview contents to determine whether the children perceived the robot as human-like, why they abused it, and whether they thought that the robot would suffer from their abusive behavior. We obtained valid interviews from 23 children (age range, 5-9 years old) over 13 days of observations. We found that 1) the majority of the children engaged in abuse because they were curious about the robot's reactions or enjoyed abusing it and considered it human-like, and 2) about half of them believed the robot was capable of perceiving their abusive behaviors.
