The close interconnection of plants with rhizosphere- and root-associated microorganisms is well recognized, and high expectations are raised for considering their symbioses in the breeding of future crop varieties. However, it is unclear how consistently plant-mediated selection, a potential target in crop breeding, influences microbiome members compared to selection imposed by the agricultural environment. Landraces may have traits shaping their microbiome, which were lost during the breeding of modern varieties, but knowledge about this is scarce. We investigated prokaryotic community composition along the radial root axis of two European maize (Zea mays L.) landraces. A sampling gradient included bulk soil, a distal and proximal rhizosphere fraction, and the root compartment. Our study was replicated at two field locations with differing edaphic and climatic conditions. Further, we tested for differences between two plant developmental stages and two precipitation treatments. Community data were generated by metabarcoding of the V4 SSU rRNA region. While communities were generally distinct between field sites, the effects of landrace variety, developmental stage, and precipitation treatment were comparatively weak and not statistically significant. Under all conditions, patterns in community composition corresponded strongly to the distance to the root. Changes in α- and β-diversity, as well as abundance shifts of many taxa along this gradient, were similar for both landraces and field locations. Most affected taxa belonged to a core microbiome present in all investigated samples. Remarkably, we observed consistent enrichment of Actinobacteriota (particularly Streptomyces, Lechevalieria) and Pseudomonadota (particularly Sphingobium) toward the root. Further, we report a depletion of ammonia-oxidizers along this axis at both field sites. We identified clear enrichment and depletion patterns in microbiome composition along the radial root axis of Z. mays. Many of these were consistent across two distinct field locations, plant developmental stages, precipitation treatments, and for both landraces. This suggests a considerable influence of plant-mediated effects on the microbiome. We propose that the affected taxa have key roles in the rhizosphere and root microbiome of Z. mays. Understanding the functions of these taxa appears highly relevant for the development of methods aiming to promote microbiome services for crops.

Objective To investigate the effects of micro RNA-222-3p (miR-222-3p) on the proliferation, apoptosis and invasion of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) CAL-27 cells.Methods qRT-PCR was used to detect the expression of miR-222-3p in CAL-27 cells and normal oral keratinocyte cell line (hNOK). Abstract Astrocytes contribute to chronic neuroinflammation in a variety of neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease (PD), the most common movement disorder. However, the precise role of astrocytes in neuroinflammation remains incompletely understood. Herein, we show that regulator of G-protein signaling 5 (RGS5) promotes neurodegenerative process through augmenting astrocytic tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) signaling. We found that selective ablation of Rgs5 in astrocytes caused an inhibition in the production of cytokines resulting in mitigated neuroinflammatory response and neuronal survival in animal models of PD, whereas overexpression of Rgs5 had the opposite effects. Mechanistically, RGS5 switched astrocytes from neuroprotective to pro-inflammatory property via binding to the receptor TNFR2. RGS5 also augmented TNFR signaling-mediated pro-inflammatory response by interacting with the receptor TNFR1. Moreover, interrupting RGS5/TNFR interaction by either RGS5 aa 1–108 or small molecular compounds feshurin and butein, suppressed astrocytic cytokine production. We showed that the transcription of astrocytic RGS5 was controlled by transcription factor early B cell factor 1 whose expression was reciprocally influenced by RGS5-modulated TNF signaling. Thus, our study indicates that beyond its traditional role in G-protein coupled receptor signaling, astrocytic RGS5 is a key modulator of TNF signaling circuit with resultant activation of astrocytes thereby contributing to chronic neuroinflammation. Blockade of the astrocytic RGS5/TNFR interaction is a potential therapeutic strategy for neuroinflammation-associated neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract Background Malformations of cortical development (MCD) are a group of congenital disorders characterized by structural abnormalities in the brain cortex. The clinical manifestations include refractory epilepsy, mental retardation, and cognitive impairment. Genetic factors play a key role in the etiology of MCD. Currently, there is no curative treatment for MCD. Phenotypes such as epilepsy and cerebral palsy cannot be observed in the fetus. Therefore, the diagnosis of MCD is typically based on fetal brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, or genetic testing. The recent advances in neuroimaging have enabled the in‐utero diagnosis of MCD using fetal ultrasound or MRI. Methods The present study retrospectively reviewed 32 cases of fetal MCD diagnosed by ultrasound or MRI. Then, the chromosome karyotype analysis, single nucleotide polymorphism array or copy number variation sequencing, and whole‐exome sequencing (WES) findings were presented. Results Pathogenic copy number variants (CNVs) or single‐nucleotide variants (SNVs) were detected in 22 fetuses (three pathogenic CNVs [9.4%, 3/32] and 19 SNVs [59.4%, 19/32]), corresponding to a total detection rate of 68.8% (22/32). Conclusion The results suggest that genetic testing, especially WES, should be performed for fetal MCD, in order to evaluate the outcomes and prognosis, and predict the risk of recurrence in future pregnancies.

Abstract The Nb2CTx prepared by hydrothermal-assisted in-situ HF generation etching was investigated in terms of its gas sensor performance. The Nb2CTx was obtained by mixing Nb2AlC with pure water, hydrochloric acid, and fluoride (LiF or NH4F) and then hydrothermally treated at 180 °C for 24 h. This in-situ HF generation etching by hydrothermal treatment was more efficient and safer in the synthesis of the Nb2CTx than the direct HF etching. The Nb2CTx etched with LiF had relatively wide interlayer spacing because the hydration radius of Li+ was larger than that of NH4 +. The results also suggest that Nb2O5 is formed during the synthesis process. These results suggest that interlayer spacing, surface termination, and secondary phases formation can be controlled by the etchant, and that hydrothermal treatment extended the applicability of insoluble etchants. The Nb2CTx synthesized with LiF was evaluated as a gas sensor at room temperature in air in the presence of designated concentrations of 6 different gases, which exhibited good sensitivity and repeatability and fast recovery time, except for NH3. Hydrothermal-assisted etching contributed to providing sufficient interlayer spacing for the gas response without an exfoliation process.

Phyllosphere algae are common in tropical rainforests, forming visible biofilms or spots on plant leaf surfaces. However, knowledge of phyllosphere algal diversity and the environmental factors that drive that diversity is limited. The aim of this study is to identify the environmental factors that drive phyllosphere algal community composition and diversity in rainforests. For this purpose, we used single molecule real-time sequencing of full-length 18S rDNA to characterize the composition of phyllosphere microalgal communities growing on four host tree species (Ficus tikoua, Caryota mitis, Arenga pinnata, and Musa acuminata) common to three types of forest over four months at the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Yunnan Province, China. Environmental 18S rDNA sequences revealed that the green algae orders Watanabeales and Trentepohliales were dominant in almost all algal communities and that phyllosphere algal species richness and biomass were lower in planted forest than in primeval and reserve rainforest. In addition, algal community composition differed significantly between planted forest and primeval rainforest. We also found that algal communities were affected by soluble reactive phosphorous, total nitrogen, and ammonium contents. Our findings indicate that algal community structure is significantly related to forest type and host tree species. Furthermore, this study is the first to identify environmental factors that affect phyllosphere algal communities, significantly contributing to future taxonomic research, especially for the green algae orders Watanabeales and Trentepohliales. This research also serves as an important reference for molecular diversity analysis of algae in other specific habitats, such as epiphytic algae and soil algae.

Background/Purpose: Specific immunotherapy is the only effective etiological treatment for allergic rhinitis, but subcutaneous immunotherapy has a slow onset and poor compliance. Predicting the clinical efficacy of subcutaneous immunotherapy in advance can reduce unnecessary medical costs and resource waste. This study aimed to identify metabolites that could predict the efficacy of subcutaneous immunotherapy on seasonal allergic rhinitis by serum metabolomics. Methods: Patients (n = 43) with Artemisia sieversiana pollen allergic rhinitis were enrolled and treated with subcutaneous immunotherapy for one year. Patients were divided into the ineffective group (n = 10) and effective group (n = 33) according to the therapeutic index. Serum samples were collected before treatment. Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified the need for wide deployment of effective harm reduction strategies in preventing opioid overdose mortality. Placing naloxone in the hands of key responders, including law enforcement officers who are often first on the scene of a suspected overdose, is one such strategy. New York State (NYS) was one of the first states to implement a statewide law enforcement naloxone administration program. This article provides an overview of the law enforcement administration of naloxone in NYS between 2015 and 2020 and highlights key characteristics of over 9000 opioid overdose reversal events. Methods Data in naloxone usage report forms completed by police officers were compiled and analyzed. Data included 9133 naloxone administration reports by 5835 unique officers located in 60 counties across NYS. Descriptive statistics were used to examine attributes of the aided individuals, including differences between fatal and non-fatal incidents. Additional descriptive analyses were conducted for incidents in which law enforcement officers arrived first at the scene of suspected overdose. Comparisons were made to examine year-over-year trends in administration as naloxone formulations were changed. Quantitative analysis was supplemented by content analysis of officers’ notes (n = 2192). Results In 85.9% of cases, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene of a suspected overdose prior to emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. These officers assessed the likelihood of an opioid overdose having occurred based on the aided person’s breathing status and other information obtained on the scene. They administered an average of 2 doses of naloxone to aided individuals. In 36.8% of cases, they reported additional administration of naloxone by other responders including EMS, fire departments, and laypersons. Data indicated the aided survived the suspected overdose in 87.4% of cases. Conclusions With appropriate training, law enforcement personnel were able to recognize opioid overdoses and prevent fatalities by administering naloxone and carrying out time-sensitive medical interventions. These officers provided life-saving services to aided individuals alongside other responders including EMS, fire departments, and bystanders. Further expansion of law enforcement naloxone administration nationally and internationally could help decrease opioid overdose mortality.

It is well known that the functionality of inorganic materials strongly depends on the chemical composition, morphology, particle size, crystal facet, etc., which are strongly influenced by the synthesis process. The precise control of the synthesis process is expected to lead to the discovery of new functionality and improvement of the functionality of materials. For example, in a high-temperature solid-phase reaction, it is difficult to control the morphology of nanocrystals. On the other hand, synthesizing functional materials using solution processes, such as hydrothermal and solvothermal reactions, makes it possible to control the morphology and particle size precisely. Usually, the solution process is strongly related to the dissolution reprecipitation mechanism. Therefore, the material composition can be strictly controlled and is suitable for forming fine particles with high crystallinity. In this review paper, the role of the solvent in the solution process, its effect on particle size and morphology of the transition metal oxide, and the related functional improvement will be focused. Furthermore, the direct formation of functional thin films by the solution process and the morphology control by non-oxide materials by the topotactic reaction will also be introduced.

The purpose of the study is to explore the influence of teaching evaluations on teachers in that they might try to please their students by giving higher grades in order to get higher teaching evaluation scores. To achieve this purpose, the study analyzed the correlations between teaching evaluation scores, student's final grades and course fail rates, and it also examined whether students' final scores and course fail rates are important predictors of teaching evaluation scores. The study used teaching evaluation scores and students' final grades of the courses offered in the fall term of academic year 2014 and the spring term of academic year 2015 in one university in Taiwan as research samples. The results showed that both student's final grades and course fail rates are predictors of teaching evaluation scores. There is a positive correlation between teaching evaluation scores and students' final grades, and a negative correlation between teaching evaluation scores and course fail rates. Based on the findings, the study inferred that the implementation of teaching evaluations may influence teachers to give better grades and lower course requirements to please their students in order to get higher teaching evaluation scores.

The consumption patterns of university students hold the power to significantly influence market trends. This study illuminates the escalating emphasis on animal welfare in these students’ purchasing choices, specifically concerning milk products. Utilizing a discrete choice experiment, we identified a pronounced preference among students for milk products with animal welfare certifications. Students were segmented into three categories based on their motivations: “Quality–Oriented” (20.55%), “Emotionally Intuitive” (30.67%), and “Quality–Emotion Balanced” (48.77%). The “Emotionally Intuitive” group manifested the most robust inclination toward such certifications. Based on these findings, we recommend tailored market strategies targeting these distinct segments. Moreover, our findings emphasize the importance of intensifying animal welfare education, shaping a market aligned with animal welfare principles, and fostering a broader societal environment attuned to animal welfare.

The Ag3PO4 photocatalyst has been developed to degrade the organic pollutant due to its highly active responsive under visible light irradiation. The properties of Ag3PO4 may depend on design and preparation. Starting materials and co-precipitation conditions would significantly affect the properties of the product. The controlled defect of this photocatalyst may lead to improve catalytic activity. Here, the unique properties of phosphate deficiency in Ag3PO4 were created using the starting material of KH2PO4 and AgNO3 under a mixed solvent of water and ethanol. AgNO3 solution with the ethanol percentages of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 90% was added to KH2PO4 aqueous solution. The photocatalysts were characterized using XRD, DRS, SEM, and XPS. The changes in morphology can be observed from the tetrahedral to the sphere which has smaller particles. The increased atomic ratio of Ag/P and Ag/O suggests that the silver ion enrichment in Ag3PO4 has been created. The activity of Ag3PO4 for Rhodamine B elimination increased by 4.3 times higher compared to that of the pristine Ag3PO4. The enhanced photocatalytic activity might be caused by the smaller particle size and higher silver ion content on the surface of Ag3PO4.

The improvement of Ag3PO4 photocatalytic activity was successful by incorporating tetrachloroaurate(III) (AuCl4−) and metallic Au on the surface of Ag3PO4. The photocatalysts were synthesized using the coprecipitation and chemisorption method. Coprecipitation of Ag3PO4 was carried out under ethanol-water solution using the starting material of AgNO3 and Na2HPO4.12H2O. AuCl4− ion and metallic Au were incorporated on the surface of Ag3PO4 using a chemisorption method under auric acid solution. The photocatalysts were characterized using XRD, DRS, SEM, and XPS. The AuCl4− ion and metallic Au were simultaneously incorporated on the Ag3PO4 surface. The high photocatalytic activity might be caused by increasing the separation of hole and electron due to capturing photogenerated electrons by metallic Au and Au(III) as electron acceptors. Ag3PO4 is an excellent photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. However, the low stability due to photo-corrosion is still an obstacle in its application. It is a big challenge to improve stability using synthesis modification. Here, the photocatalyst stability enhancement was successfully prepared by tripolyphosphate. Photocatalyst was prepared by reacting AgNO3 solution with STPP (sodium tripolyphosphate) solution to form a white suspension. The addition of phosphate solution to the white suspension produces yellow Ag3PO4 with a new type of defective photocatalyst. The XPS measurement showed that the increase of STPP concentration significantly decreased the Ag/P atomic ratio, indicating the silver vacancy formation on the surface of Ag3PO4. The photocatalytic reaction formed a metallic Ag with a lower d-space in the cube structure occurred in the silver vacancy of Ag3PO4. This defect increases the interaction of metallic silver and Ag3PO4. The enhanced photo-stability might be induced by metallic silver that can act as a photogenerated electron acceptor.

Abstract Molybdenum-based materials have been intensively investigated for high-performance gas sensor applications. Particularly, molybdenum oxides and dichalcogenides nanostructures have been widely examined due to their tunable structural and physicochemical properties that meet sensor requirements. These materials have good durability, are naturally abundant, low cost, and have facile preparation, allowing scalable fabrication to fulfill the growing demand of susceptible sensor devices. Significant advances have been made in recent decades to design and fabricate various molybdenum oxides- and dichalcogenides-based sensing materials, though it is still challenging to achieve high performances. Therefore, many experimental and theoretical investigations have been devoted to exploring suitable approaches which can significantly enhance their gas sensing properties. This review comprehensively examines recent advanced strategies to improve the nanostructured molybdenum-based material performance for detecting harmful pollutants, dangerous gases, or even exhaled breath monitoring. The summary and future challenges to advance their gas sensing performances will also be presented.

ObjectiveTo compare the return to work (RTW) time between single-port laparoscopic surgery (SPLS) and multiport laparoscopic surgery (MPLS) for benign ovarian tumors.MethodsA cross-sectional cohort study was conducted, which consisted of 335 women of reproductive age with benign ovarian tumors and who were keen on returning to work as early as possible. Surgical outcomes, postoperative pain score, postoperative satisfaction with the cosmesis score (CS), and the RTW time of the SPLS group were compared with those of the MPLS group. Besides, the RTW time and CS were calculated from the questionnaire survey by a single specialized gynecologist.ResultsWomen who met the inclusion criteria were included in the SPLS (n = 106) and MPLS groups (n = 229). The RTW time in the SPLS group (22.13 ± 27. 06 days) was significantly shorter than that in the MPLS group (46.08 ± 57.86 days) (P < 0.001). The multivariate Cox analysis results showed that age (HR = 0.984, 95% CI, 0.971−0.997, P = 0.020), SPLS (HR = 3.491, 95% CI, 2.422−5. 032, P < 0.001), and return to normal activity time (HR = 0.980, 95% CI, 0.961−0.998, P = 0.029) were independent factors of the RTW time.ConclusionsSPLS may be advantageous in terms of shortening the RTW time for women with benign ovarian tumors.

In this study, we explore the challenge of object recognition by robots in scenarios where individual objects cannot be identified due to stacking. We harness the capabilities of the light detection and ranging (LiDAR) camera as a sensor for object detection, leveraging its advanced sensing technology to simultaneously capture both color and depth images of objects. To address the issue of image overlap caused by stacking, the Mask region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) is employed for object recognition and segmentation. Additionally, through image mapping transformation, the positions of individual objects in the red, green, and blue (RGB) image are projected onto the depth image to extract their corresponding depth information. Given the disparity in camera positions between the color and depth cameras, occlusions and variations in depth mapping can result in missing depth values for certain objects. To mitigate this, various statistical methods are utilized to fill in these missing values and enhance the accuracy of the extracted depth information. Furthermore, by calculating the width and length of the rectangle of the rotated image, the angle with the smallest value is selected as the gripping angle of the object. Finally, leveraging the transformed coordinates and planned trajectory, the robotic arm executes the gripping task on stacked objects. This execution process validates the accuracy of the three-dimensional spatial information and showcases the functionality of an intelligent robotic arm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Description: New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) recommends that all pregnant patients receive human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) screening during pregnancy. This study assessed the prevalence of repeat prenatal HIV testing and factors associated with receipt of the recommended tests. Methods: Data from the NYSDOH newborn screening program were used to randomly select pregnant persons without HIV who delivered a liveborn infant in 2017. Receipt of repeat testing was defined as an initial HIV test in the first or second trimesters and the final in the third trimester (relaxed); or an initial test in the first trimester and the final in the third trimester (strict). Relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals were calculated in bivariate analyses. Adjusted RRs were calculated to determine associations between demographic and clinical factors and receipt of repeat HIV testing. Results: The cohort included 2,225 individuals. Roughly one quarter (24%) received the recommended tests in the first or second and third trimesters and 17% received them in the first and third trimesters. Individuals who reported Hispanic or Asian race/ethnicities, had government-funded insurance, started prenatal care in the first trimester, delivered in New York City, or received prenatal hepatitis C virus screening were significantly more likely to receive repeat testing using either definition. Conclusions: Despite the benefits and cost-effectiveness, the prevalence of repeat prenatal HIV screening during the third trimester remains persistently low. Improved messaging and targeted education and resources to assist prenatal providers could reinforce the importance of repeat testing and reduce residual perinatal HIV transmission. Abstract This study has quantified basic wood density and various types of wood shrinkage in relation to initial spacing (or initial planting density) and tree growth based on a 48-year-old black spruce (Picea mariana) spacing trial in eastern Canada. A total of 139 sample trees were collected from four initial spacings (3086, 2500, 2066, 1372 trees/ha) for this study. Analyses of variance (ANOVA) show that initial spacing is the most important parameter affecting wood density significantly, followed by tree diameter at breast height (DBH) class. With increasing spacing, wood density, radial and volumetric shrinkage tend to decrease, whereas longitudinal shrinkage tends to increase gradually. The largest spacing has the lowest wood density, the smallest transverse shrinkage and the largest longitudinal shrinkage. Path analysis indicates that wood density is the most important parameter affecting transverse shrinkage, followed by the distance from the pith. Furthermore, much of the variation of the transverse shrinkage with wood density may be due to the initial spacing and tree DBH class. Path analysis also reveals that longitudinal shrinkage is mainly related to log height and tree DBH class. With increasing log height, longitudinal shrinkage tends to increase, and transverse shrinkage tends to decrease. With increasing DBH class, the trees tend to have an increasing longitudinal shrinkage and a decreasing transverse shrinkage. Overall, this study suggests that a large increase in the initial spacing (e.g., 1372 trees/ha) might lead to a significant reduction in both wood density and transverse shrinkage, and a significant increase in longitudinal shrinkage in black spruce.

Ag/Au/Fe3O4/graphene composites prepared by a hydrothermal method demonstrated excellent activation of H2O2 and were used to degrade methylene blue (MB) in solution in the presence of organic acids and inorganic ions under light and ultrasound irradiation. The physicochemical properties of the obtained composites were characterized using various methods. The results showed that the composites exhibited excellent magnetic properties, crystallinity, and stability. The results of catalysis experiments revealed that the removal efficiency of MB increased when Ag and Au were both incorporated into the Fe3O4/graphene/H2O2 system compared with the removal efficiency achieved with separate Ag-Fe3O4/graphene/H2O2 and Au-Fe3O4/graphene/H2O2 systems, indicating a substantial synergistic interaction between the two metallic nanoparticles and the Fe3O4/graphene/H2O2 systems. The presence of an organic acid accelerated degradation of the MB/H2O2 system, whereas almost all of the investigated anions inhibited the degradation of MB; their inhibition effects followed the order CO32− > NO3− > Cl− > F− > H2PO4− > SO42− > I−. Cations of Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ also suppressed MB degradation, likely because of the influence of Cl− coexisting in the solutions.

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported as a diagnostic markers for sepsis, and miRNAs have also been found to play a regulatory role in sepsis‐induced acute kidney injury (AKI). However, the regulatory effect and mechanism of miR‐34b‐3p on AKI remains elusive. First, sepsis mice with AKI was established via cecal ligation puncture (CLP), and verified through hematoxylin‐eosin staining, determination of tumor necrosis factor‐α (TNF‐α), interleukin (IL)‐6/1β and serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). Data showed that CLP‐induced mice demonstrated increased ALT, BUN, TNF‐α, IL‐1β, and IL‐6 with injured pathological morphology of kidney tissues. Second, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment elevated TNF‐α, IL‐1β, and IL‐6 contents in rat mesangial cells (RMCs). MiR‐34b‐3p was downregulated in both CLP‐induced mice and LPS‐induced RMCs. Third, target gene of miR‐34b‐3p was verified as ubiquitin‐like protein 4A (UBL4A), and UBL4A was upregulated in LPS‐induced RMCs. MiR‐34b‐3p could inhibit UBL4A expression and decreased TNF‐α, IL‐1β and IL‐6 contents in LPS‐induced RMCs, while overexpression of UBL4A counteract with the suppressive effects of miR‐34b‐3p on the protein expression. Moreover, transcriptional activity of UBL4A‐induced NF‐κB was decreased by miR‐34b‐3p. Lastly, in vivo injection of miR‐34b‐3p agomir improved CLP‐induced kidney tissues injury with declined ALT, BUN, TNF‐α, IL‐1β, IL‐6, and UBL4A. In general, miR‐34b‐3p overexpression could alleviate AKI in sepsis mice through downregulation of UBL4A/NF‐κB, providing potential therapeutic strategy for AKI.

The defect and metallic silver (Ag) in silver phosphate (Ag3PO4) photocatalyst were successfully generated using hydroxyapatite (HA) and glucose. Two steps of synthesis were done in these experiments. Firstly, the Ag/HA powder was prepared by reacting AgNO3 and HA, followed by the addition of a glucose solution. Secondly, the suspension of Ag/HA was reacted with AgNO3 aqueous solution. The yellow product of Ag/Ag3PO4 photocatalyst was produced. The products were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The decreased ratio of O/Ag and metallic Ag formation observed by the XPS was detected as the possible defect and Ag-doping in the photocatalyst. The enhanced photocatalytic activity might be caused by the oxygen vacancy and metallic Ag in Ag3PO4 that enables the separation of photo-generated electrons and holes.

N'-(3,5-Dichloro-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-fluorobenzohydrazide (H2L) was used to prepare oxidovanadium(V) complex [VOL(OEt)(MeOH)] (1) and dioxidomolybdenum(VI) complex [MoO2L(OH2)]·[MoO2L(EtOH)] (2). The complexes were characterized by IR, UV-Vis, NMR spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis indicates that the complexes are mononuclear species with the metal atoms in octahedral coordination. The complexes were studied for catalytic oxidation property on some olefins with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant.
