PURPOSEThere has been a global increase in early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC), yet there has been very limited exploration of its impact in Indonesia. This study aimed to determine the clinicopathologic characteristics and the overall survival (OS) of EOCRC compared with those of average-onset colorectal cancer (AOCRC).METHODSMedical records were retrospectively reviewed from all patients presenting with colorectal cancer (CRC) at Dr Sardjito General Hospital (Yogyakarta, Indonesia) between 2016 and 2019. Sociodemographic, clinicopathologic, and treatment variables were extracted. t Tests were used to compare characteristics of EOCRC and AOCRC patient groups. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to analyze age and other potential prognostic factors.RESULTSThe total population (N = 1,276) comprised EOCRC (n = 149; 11.7%) and AOCRC (n = 1,127; 88.3%) patients. Background: Nutrition counseling in breast cancer (BC) patients show long-term adherence to a dietary pattern and effects on nutritional status and quality of life (QOL). Objective : We evaluated the effects of nutrition counseling for nutrients intake dan nutritional status improvement among breast cancer patients. Material and Methods: This research was conducted in a Pre-experimental design; one group pretest-postest design was conducted on 45 BC patients who underwent radiotherapy for five weeks in the Radiotherapy Unit, dr. Sardjito Hospital, Indonesia. Nutrition counseling was demonstrated by trained fieldworkers to 45 participants using a nutrition booklet for BC patients and a food model as an intervention technique. Continuous nutrition counseling was given three times: weeks 1, 3, and 5 of radiotherapy. We examined anthropometry, biochemical, physical, dietary, and Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) questionnaire to obtain nutritional status. Results: Most of the participants had a body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m2 (62.2%). After the participants were receiving nutrition counseling, there were increases in intake of energy, protein, carbohydrate, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E amounted 124.54 kcal, 8.12 g (p=0.01), 5.84 g, 234.43 mg, 0.042 mg, and 0.44 mg, respectively. Intake of fruits and vegetables improved on the first, third, and fifth week (1.44, 2.36, and 4.03 portion/day, respectively) (p=0.001). Handgrip strength (HGS) showed slight improvement (p=0.081). However, HGS ameliorated from 15.85 kgs in the early to 16.97 kgs in the end stage of therapy. Bodyweight decreased 0.28 kg; however, there are no changes in PG-SGA score, hemoglobin (Hb), and albumin levels. Conclusion: Nutrition counseling improves patients’ nutrition intake despite there is no significant alteration in nutritional status. In addition, nutrition counseling for breast cancer patients during radiotherapy is essential to maintain and improve nutrient intake and nutritional status. In the long-term period, it might be affected to improve quality of life.

Abstract Metastatic breast cancer may present as a pericardial effusion that can progress to a life‐threatening cardiac tamponade. Pericardial window followed by initial chemotherapy needs to be immediately applied in order to achieve a favorable outcome.

PurposeThis study aimed to determine the survival outcome and prognostic factors of patients with nasopharyngeal cancer accessing treatment in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.MethodsData on 759 patients with NPC diagnosed from 2007 to 2016 at Dr Sardjito General Hospital were included. Potential prognostic variables included sociodemographic, clinicopathology and treatment parameters. Multivariable analyses were implemented using semi-parametric Cox proportional hazards modelling and fully parametric survival analysis.ResultsThe median time of observation was 14.39 months. In the whole cohort the median observed survival was 31.08 months. In the univariable analysis, age, education status, insurance type, BMI, ECOG index, stage and treatment strategy had an impact on overall survival (OS) (p values ConclusionsMedian OS for the cohort was low compared to those reported in both endemic and non-endemic regions. By combining the findings of multivariable analyses, we showed that age, education status, ECOG index, stage and first treatment modality were independent predictors for the OS.

Background: Breast cancer is the fifth leading cause of death due to all the type of cancer and the second leading cause of death in developing country after lung cancer. The global incidents of this disease were 43%. The cancer cells have an ability to disturb the nutrients absorbtion in the body and give an effect of decreasing nutritional status, physical performance and quality of life. Objective: To show the relationship between nutrient intake, nutritional status and quality of life, breast cancer patients with radiotherapy at RSUP Dr Sardjito Yogyakarta. Method: This study was an observational study with cross sectional design. Total subject of this study were 85 respondents. Intake of energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate were measured using 1x24 hours food recall. Nutritional status were measured using patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) questionnaire. Then the quality of life were measured using European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) questionnaire. Results: There were significant difference in the average intake of energy (p=0.013), protein (p=0.043) and fat (p=0.016) between severe malnourished, moderate malnourished and wellnourished patients, whereas the average intake of carbohydrate was not significant (p=0.070). The lower nutrition intake, the lower nutritional status. There was also significant difference in fat intake (p=0.035) and nutritional status based on PG-SGA (p=0.002) between patients with poor and good quality of life. Patients with poor quality of life had lower nutrition intake and nutritional status. Conclusion: Nutrient intake gave an effect to nutritional status and quality of life in breast cancer patient with radiotherapy.
