Background and Aim: Antibiotic resistance (ABR) is one of the most pressing public health issues. Resistant pathogens originate from antibiotic misuse and unsustainable socioeconomic patterns. Co-financed by the European Commission, the Erasmus + capacity building project, PREVENT IT | Risk Management and Prevention of ABR, aims to improve the effectiveness of the study programs of Indian universities vis-à-vis ABR. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the ABR training programs on the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) reflection of undergraduate and postgraduate students from five Indian universities. Materials and Methods: In this multicentric study, the KAP reflection of the students was assessed before (pre) and after (post) the intervention of experiential ABR training. Paired t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used to analyze the impact of intervention using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. Results: A total of 515 students participated in the study. The findings indicate a significant improvement in the knowledge and attitude scores, while a minor change was observed in practice reflection. Conclusion: The intervention conducted within the framework of the project could set a good practice for the prevention and risk management of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

ObjectiveSepsis and septic shock are major challenges and economic burdens to healthcare, impacting millions of people globally and representing significant causes of mortality. Recently, a large number of quality improvement programs focused on sepsis resuscitation bundles have been instituted worldwide. These educational initiatives have been shown to be associated with improvements in clinical outcomes. We aimed to evaluate the impact of a multi-faceted quality implementing program (QIP) on the compliance of a “simplified 1-h bundle” (Sepsis 6) and hospital mortality of severe sepsis and septic shock patients out of the intensive care unit (ICU).MethodsEmergency departments (EDs) and medical wards (MWs) of 12 academic and non-academic hospitals in the Lombardy region (Northern Italy) were involved in a multi-faceted QIP, which included educational and organizational interventions. Patients with a clinical diagnosis of severe sepsis or septic shock according to the Sepsis-2 criteria were enrolled in two different periods: from May 2011 to November 2011 (before-QIP cohort) and from August 2012 to June 2013 (after-QIP cohort).Measurements and main resultsThe effect of QIP on bundle compliance and hospital mortality was evaluated in a before–after analysis. We enrolled 467 patients in the before-QIP group and 656 in the after-QIP group. At the time of enrollment, septic shock was diagnosed in 50% of patients, similarly between the two periods. The fourth industrial revolution is expected to deeply affect the Indian socio-economic trends. Higher education is gradually acquiring significance in the agenda of development and cooperation policies. In the last decade, the European Union has supported Indian higher education institutions to enhance their role in the development of the country. The Erasmus+ has been revised to intertwine the internal and external dimensions, embedding goals related to social, political and economic spheres. To pursue this goal, under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education action, the EU has allowed Indian universities to ideate and develop projects addressing local needs and global challenges. Through case study and participant observation, the article assesses the EU's action in India for cooperation development initiatives engaging the Indian higher education sector. The research findings have been instrumental in delivering targeted recommendations to European policymakers to enhance the impact of the EU developmental cooperation policy in India and the EU-India relations tout court.

Lurbinectedin is responsible for DNA recognition and binding, producing double-strand DNA (dsDNA) breaks thus resulting in apoptosis. Sensitivity to lurbinectedin is linked to the nucleotide excision repair (NER) system. Furthermore, irinotecan, a topoisomerase I inhibitor, provokes dsDNA breaks that could be reinforced abrogating the NER system using lurbinectedin. BRCA -mutated patients, already treated with platinum-derived drugs, who suffered DNA damage, cannot repair the breaks due to lurbinectedin interaction, whereas irinotecan provokes a dsDNA break that promotes synthetic lethality. This article describes an exceptional response to lurbinectedin alone followed by the association with irinotecan in a BRCA -mutated platinum-resistant ovarian cancer patient. A 44-year-old BRCA 1-mutated ovarian cancer patient was treated in sixth line with lurbinectedin and irinotecan with a time to further progression (TTFP) equal to 8 months. In our case, the association with irinotecan overcame the resistance to lurbinectedin alone. In conclusion, lurbinectedin and irinotecan demonstrated a promising response in platinum-resistant patients. However, further studies should be conducted to validate our findings and future trials will be important to further define the clinical utility of lurbinectedin.
