The references about pulsed 1.6‐μm single‐longitudinal‐mode laser, continuous wave 1.6‐μm Er: YAG single‐longitudinal‐mode seed laser, and pulsed 1.6‐μm Er: YAG Q‐switched amplifier are collected and analyzed. The development status is introduced, the main problems are identified, and the future development direction is clarified. Maybe, this can provide a reference for other scholars. A rainfall-induced landslide occurred in the north highwall of the Fushun west open pit at 5:00 (UTC + 8) on July 26, 2016, in China. The landslide was about 3.1 × 106 m3 and caused considerable destruction of houses, roads, and railways. Field investigations, laboratory tests, and numerical analyses have been performed to explore the failure characteristics and formation mechanism of the landslide. The landslide was divided into three parts: the crack area, the sliding body area, and the accumulation area. The X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope techniques were used to reveal the mineral composition and microstructure of the landslide material. Then, a conceptual model of the landslide mechanism was constructed and the process of the landslide was divided into four stages: unloading and cracking stage; sliding and partial locking stage; shearing out and failure stage; and flowing and accumulating stage. A combined seepage and stability analysis was performed to explore the mechanism of the landslide by numerical simulation. The relationship of volumetric water content and hydraulic conductivity to matric suction was established to describe the hydraulic characteristics of the slope material under infiltration. The results show that the maximum matric suction in the slope decreases continually with the increase of rainfall intensity and duration, and the north highwall will not be stable after 7.2 h for 16 mm/h of rainfall. The original slope was stable and heavy rainfall triggered the landslide, and the obtained critical failure surface matched the field survey closely. The findings improved understanding of the failure mechanism and process of rainfall-induced landslides may be used for evaluating the stability of slopes and early identification for both active and inactive open-pit mines. With the rapid demand for underwater optical communication (UOC), studies of UOC degradation by oceanic turbulence have attached increasing attention worldwide and become a research hot-spot in recent years. Previous studies used a simplified and inaccurate oceanic turbulence spectrum, in which the eddy diffusivity ratio between temperature and salinity is assumed to be unity and the outer scale of turbulence is assumed to be infinite. However, both assumptions are not true in most of the actual marine environments. In this paper, based on the Rytov theory in weak turbulence, we derive analytical expressions of "the aperture-averaged scintillation index" (SI) for both plane and spherical waves, which can clearly demonstrate how SI is influenced by several key factors in UOC. Then, typical fade statistics of the UOC system in weak turbulence is discussed including the probability of fade, the expected number of fades per time, the mean fade time, signal-to-noise ratio and bit error rate. Our results show that spherical wave is preferable in the UOC system in weak turbulence compared to plane wave, and the aperture-averaged effect has a significant impact on UOC system's performance. Here, we reported the complete mitochondrial genome of Antheraea yamamai Guérin-Méneville (1861) collected in Heilongjiang Province, China. The mitochondrial genome is 15,341 bp and encodes 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. Sequence comparison identified 22 SNVs in the A. yamamai mitochondrial genomes between Chinese and Korean populations, indicating a low intraspecific variation between the two populations. Phylogenetic analyses with maximum-likelihood and Bayesian inference methods revealed a close relationship between A. yamamai and Antheraea frithi and supported the relationship among Antheraea species (((A. yamamai + A. frithi) + A. pernyi) + A. assamensis). Objectives: To study the technical feasibility of contrast‐enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in evaluating femoral head perfusion in a rabbit model of steroid‐induced femoral head osteonecrosis. Methods: Twenty rabbits were divided randomly into a control group (n = 8) and an experimental group (n = 12). Rabbits in the experimental group were induced by lipopolysaccharide and methylprednisolone to build a model of steroid‐induced femoral head osteonecrosis. Contrast‐enhanced ultrasound examinations were performed at 3 and 5 weeks after induction. Then, pathologic examinations and microvessel density (MVD) calculations were performed on the excised rabbit femoral heads. Results: The MVD of the experimental group decreased significantly 3 and 5 weeks after induction compared with that of the control group. According to the CEUS examination results, significant differences existed in the ascending slope, descending slope, mean transit time, and time to peak between the groups at 5 weeks (P <.05). A correlation analysis showed that the descending slope had a certain correlation with the MVD (correlation coefficient, 0.376). A receiver operating characteristic curve was used to analyze the capacity of the CEUS parameters to predict the occurrence of osteonecrosis. The areas under the curve for the ascending slope and descending slope were 0.758 and 0.760, respectively (P <.05). Conclusions: Contrast‐enhanced ultrasound can visualize the microcirculation in steroid‐induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head in rabbits and may be a useful imaging method for the early monitoring and prediction of femoral head osteonecrosis. Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to characterize the temporospatial profile of axonal degeneration and its relation to blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability.Materials and Methods: Longitudinal DTI was performed in Wallerian degeneration slow (WldS) mice following retinal ischemia. In parallel, gadolinium (Gd)-enhanced T1 -weighted imaging (Gd-T1 WI) was performed to evaluate BBB permeability in white matter during axonal degeneration. To confirm the in vivo findings, immunohistochemistry using SMI-31 and myelin basic protein (MBP) was performed to examine the axons and myelin, respectively, and Evans blue was used to evaluate the permeability of the BBB.Results: Reduced axial diffusivity was found in the optic nerve (ON, -15%, P = 0.0063) 1 week and optic tact (OT, -18%, P = 0.0077) 2 weeks after retinal ischemia, which were respectively associated with an 11% (P = 0.0116) and 25% (P = 0.0001) axonal loss. Increased radial diffusivity was found 1-2 weeks after the colocated decrease of axial diffusivity (35% increase, P = 0.0388 in the ON at week 2 and an 80% increase, P = 0.0015 in the OT at week 4). No significant changes were observed using Gd-T1 WI (P = 0.13-0.75), although an approximately 1-fold increase in Evans blue staining intensity was found in the injured ON and OT starting 1 week after retinal ischemia.Conclusion: We demonstrated the utility of DTI to characterize anterograde-propagating axonal degeneration through the ON and OT following retinal damage. Piles are extensively used as a means of slope stabilization. A novel engineering technique of truncated piles that are unlike traditional piles is introduced in this paper. A simplified numerical method is proposed to analyze the stability of slopes stabilized with truncated piles based on the shear strength reduction method. The influential factors, which include pile diameter, pile spacing, depth of truncation, and existence of a weak layer, are systematically investigated from a practical point of view. The results show that an optimum ratio exists between the depth of truncation and the pile length above a slip surface, below which truncating behavior has no influence on the piled slope stability. This optimum ratio is bigger for slopes stabilized with more flexible piles and piles with larger spacing. Besides, truncated piles are more suitable for slopes with a thin weak layer than homogenous slopes. In practical engineering, the piles could be truncated reasonably while ensuring the reinforcement effect. This study reports the first complete mitochondrial genome of Antheraea pernyi Guérin-Méneville 1855 (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) strain Dingzhou_1, a silkworm resource serving silk production in North Korea. The mitochondrial genome is circular with 15,573 bp in length encoding 37 typical mitochondrial genes (13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes). The 553-bp A + T-rich region harbors a repeat region composed of 6 ∼ 38 bp tandem repeat units, as found in other known inbred strains from Chinese populations. The phylogenetic analysis clustered Dingzhou_1 from North Korea together with Chinese Liaoning population, suggesting that oak silkworm in North Korea might be introduced from her neighbor China Liaoning. Background: Synaptic deficits and neuronal loss are the major pathological manifestations of Alzheimer's disease. However, the link between the early synaptic loss and subsequent neurodegeneration is not entirely clear. Cell culture studies have shown that amyloid-β (Aβ) applied to axonal terminals can cause retrograde degeneration leading to the neuronal loss, but this process has not been demonstrated in live animals. Objective: To test if Aβ applied to retinal ganglion cell axonal terminals can induce axonal damage in the optic nerve and optic tract in mice. Methods: Aβ was injected into the terminal field of the optic tract, in the left lateral geniculate nucleus of wildtype C57BL/6 mice. Following the injection, monthly diffusion tensor imaging was performed. Three months after the injection, mice underwent visual evoked potential recordings, and then sacrificed for immunohistochemical examination. Results: There were no significant changes seen with diffusion tensor imaging in the optic nerve and optic tract 3 months after the Aβ injection. The myelin and axons in these regions remained intact according to immunohistochemistry. The only significant changes observed in this study were delayed transduction and reduced amplitude of visual evoked potentials, although both Aβ and its reversed form caused similar changes. Conclusion: Despite the published in vitro studies, there was no significant axonal damage in the optic nerve and optic tract after injecting Aβ onto retinal ganglion cell axonal terminals of wildtype C57BL/6 mice. Visual deficits are commonly seen in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), but postmortem histology has not found substantial damage in visual cortex regions, leading to the hypothesis that the visual pathway, from eye to the brain, may be damaged in AD. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) has been used to characterize white matter abnormalities. However, there is a lack of data examining the optic nerves and tracts in patients with AD. In this study, we used DTI to analyze the visual pathway in healthy controls, patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and AD using scans provided by the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). We found significant increases in the total diffusivity and radial diffusivity and reductions in fractional anisotropy in optic nerves among AD patients. Similar but less extensive changes in these metrics were seen in MCI patients as compared to controls. The differences in DTI metrics between groups mirrored changes in the splenium of the corpus callosum, which has commonly been shown to exhibit white matter damage during AD and MCI. To reveal the deformation mechanism and evolution of potential diseases of the dumping site slope, a series of geo-mechanical model tests was conducted on the background of Yinwan Dumping site slope, Heidaigou open-pit mine. The process of dump slope elevating and groundwater infiltrating into loess basement was simulated. A method to simulate dumping site above the water-saturated loess basement was introduced. During the tests, the influence of water in loess basement was simulated by water injection from the holes on the bottom of the model. The variety of displacement of dumping site above the loess basement under filling, weak base, as well as water-saturated conditions was studied. It shows that, as dump height increased, the main deformation transformed from the shear deformation above the water-saturated loess basement to the vertical settlement above the natural loess basement, and the destruction of the model was caused directly by the continually increasing of moisture content of the loess basement. Background: Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) suggests the presence of white matter abnormality at the prodromal stage in human Alzheimer's disease (AD).Objective: To use a mouse model of AD to determine whether the white matter abnormality detected by in vivo DTI is associated with functional deficits and axon damage.Methods: Amyloid-β1-42 (Aβ1-42) was injected into the left lateral ventricle in mice. Two months after the injection, in vivo DTI and visual evoked potential (VEP) recordings were performed, followed by immunohistochemistry of phosphorylated neurofilament and myelin basic protein.Results: DTI of Aβ1-42-treated mice showed a significant increase of radial diffusivity in white matter including the optic nerves and tracts. The abnormality was associated with decreased amplitude and increased latency of VEP. Immunohistochemistry confirmed a significant loss of axons and myelin integrity.Conclusion: White matter damage induced by Aβ1-42 in mice can be detected non-invasively by DTI. A quantitative magnetization transfer (qMT) technique was employed to quantify the ratio of the sizes of the bound and free water proton pools in ex vivo mouse brains. The goal was to determine the pool size ratio sensitivity to myelin. Fixed brains from both shiverer mice and control littermates were imaged. The pool size ratio in the corpus callosum of shiverer mice was substantially lower than that in the control mice, while there was no distinguishable difference in the pool size ratio in the gray matter. These results correlate with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) derived radial diffusivity which previously was shown to reflect myelin integrity in this animal model. Histological study reveals the presence of myelin in control mice white matter and the absence of myelin in shiverer mice white matter, supporting the qMT and DTI results. Optic nerves from mice that have undergone retinal ischemia were examined using a newly implemented quantitative magnetization transfer (qMT) technique. Previously published results indicate that the optic nerve from retinal ischemia mice suffered significant axon degeneration without detectable myelin injury at 3 days after reperfusion. At this time point, we acquired ex vivo qMT parameters from both shiverer mice (which have nearly no myelin) and control mice that have undergone retinal ischemia, and these qMT measures were compared with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) results. Our findings suggests that the qMT estimated ratio of the pool sizes of the macromolecular and free water protons reflected the different myelin contents in the optic nerves between the shiverer and control mice. This pool size ratio was specific to myelin content only and was not significantly affected by the presence of axon injury in mouse optic nerve 3 days after retinal ischemia. The optic nerve is often affected in patients with glaucoma and multiple sclerosis. Conventional MRI can detect nerve damage, but it does not accurately assess the underlying pathologies. Mean diffusivity and diffusion anisotropy indices derived from diffusion tensor imaging have been shown to be sensitive to a variety of central nervous system white matter pathologies. Despite being sensitive, the lack of specificity limits the ability of these measures to differentiate the underlying pathology. Directional (axial and radial) diffusivities, measuring water diffusion parallel and perpendicular to the axonal tracts, have been shown to be specific to axonal and myelin damage in mouse models of optic nerve injury, including retinal ischemia and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis. The progression of Wallerian degeneration has also been detected using directional diffusivities after retinal ischemia. However, translating these findings to human optic nerve is technically challenging. The current status of diffusion MRI of human optic nerve, including imaging sequences and protocols, is summarized herein. Despite the lack of a consensus among different groups on the optimal sequence or protocol, increased mean diffusivity and decreased diffusion anisotropy have been observed in injured optic nerve from patients with chronic optic neuritis. From different mouse models of optic nerve injuries to the emerging studies on patients with optic neuritis, directional diffusivities show great potential to be specific biomarkers for axonal and myelin injury. Abstract: In this study, axial (λ ||) and radial (λ ⊥) diffusivities derived from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) were used to evaluate white matter injury in brains of mice affected by experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Sixteen female C57BL/6 mice were immunized with amino acids 35–55 of myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG35–55). Three months after immunization, optic nerve and tract were severely affected with 19% and 18% decrease in λ || respectively, suggesting the presence of axonal injury. In addition, a 156% and 86% increase in λ ⊥ was observed in optic nerve and tract respectively, suggestive of myelin injury. After in vivo DTI, mice were perfusion fixed and immunohistochemistry for the identification of myelin basic protein (MBP) and phosphorylated neurofilament (pNF) was performed to verify the presence of axonal and myelin injury. The present study demonstrated that the visual pathway is selectively affected in MOG35–55 induced murine EAE and these injuries are non-invasively detectable using λ || and λ ⊥. This study was designed to determine whether formalin fixation alters diffusion parameters in the infarcted brain. Diffusion tensor images were obtained from anesthetized mice 1 hr after middle cerebral artery occlusion and repeated after formalin fixation of brains. In live animals, there was a significant decrease in the trace of the diffusion tensor (Tr(D)) in infarcted cortex and external capsule compared with contralateral brain areas, with no change in relative anisotropy (RA). After formalin fixation, Tr(D) was reduced 30-80%. However, the Tr(D) differential present in vivo between injured and healthy tissues was lost, with Tr(D) reduced to similar values in all tissues except for the edge of the cortical infarction, where it was lower than in surrounding tissues. RA values were unchanged after fixation. This study supports the preservation of diffusion anisotropy for both healthy and injured white matter in fixed mouse brain. Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and Manganese Enhanced MRI (MEMRI) are noninvasive tools to characterize neural fiber microstructure and axonal transport. A combination of both may provide novel insights into the progress of neurodegeneration. To investigate the relationship of DTI and MEMRI in white matter of tauopathy, twelve optic nerves of 11-month-old p301L tau mice were imaged and finished with postmortem immunohistochemistry. MEMRI was used to quantify Mn2+ accumulation rates in the optic nerve (ON, termed ONAR) and the Superior Colliculus (SC, termed SCAR), the primary terminal site of ON in mice. We found that both ONAR and SCAR revealed a significant linear correlation with mean diffusion (mD) and radial diffusion (rD) but not with other DTI quantities. Immunohistochemistry findings showed that ONAR, mD, and rD are significantly correlated with the myelin content (Myelin Basic Protein, p < 0.05) but not with the axonal density (SMI-31), tubulin density, or tau aggregates (AT8 staining). In summary, slower axonal transport appeared to have less myelinated axons and thinner remaining axons, associated with reduced rD and mD of in vivo DTI.
