The use of virtual museums in cultural transfer is an interdisciplinary approach of significant importance. Virtual museums play a crucial role in cultural transfer by digitally preserving cultural heritage. This article examines the educational role of virtual museums as a key tool in cultural transfer, particularly in the context of representing Ottoman works in virtual museums. Museums, indispensable elements of cultural transfer and education in contemporary society, have gained the opportunity to reach wider audiences by transitioning into the digital realm. In this context, the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums and its role in cultural transfer are highlighted. Virtual museums hold great educational potential. It is well recognized that the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums has educational effects such as expanding learning environments, facilitating access to knowledge, and increasing cultural awareness. Therefore, the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums, especially in the field of education, is addressed. This study evaluates the role of the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums in cultural transfer and education, thus demonstrating the educational potential of virtual museums. The research illustrates that virtual museums serve as significant tools for the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage, and the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums contributes to this process. Using Ferdinand de Saussure's theory of signs, signifier, signified, this study examines the representation and educational role of Ottoman works in virtual museums.

In both the educational and business environments, two trends may be inarguable. The difference between the demand of technology positions as compared to the number of people majoring or interested in technology-based careers. Secondly, the education environment is radically changing in several aspects including a high number of undecided majors entering undergraduate institutions as well as the ability of skills development by higher education students entering the marketplace. The recent and historic attention in artificial intelligence and machine learning technology may have an impact on both a change in the demand for total positions and interest in technology-based careers. This research study will investigate the attitudes and perceptions of first-year college students over four academic years to determine changes. Six of the factors studied were found to have significant differences between the research period: attitude, job availability, personal image, social image, subjective norm and intent to major. The intent to major has remained consistently low for three of the four years. The implications from this research will provide insight to both business organizations for recruiting as well as all educational institutions.

Due to negative classroom experiences, lack of resources and access, the fear of the unknown, and at times a disconnect, students are often fearful of literacy learning (reading, writing)--and in some cases outright bored. This piece highlights a variation of Childs' "C.O.U.N.T." acronym, which addresses ways in which teachers can infuse popular culture, technology, and authentic experiences into their traditional writing and literacy curriculums. From creating and cultivating a culture that embraces literacy in various modes, and providing assignments that move beyond traditional assessment, this article will demonstrate the powerful reach that teachers can have by honing in on creative ways to facilitate writing instruction. Going beyond the use of pencil and paper writing and assessment in classrooms, and simple but meaningful and authentic ways to enhance literacy instruction for teachers will be discussed.

Digital transformation has profoundly impacted social and economic life by enhancing workforce competences, fostering innovation, and creating competitive advantages. Given that the driving force of digital transformation is technology, this study aimed to determine whether education and workforce competences are perceived as essential factors in the digital transformation narrative across diverse fields of socioeconomic development at both macro and micro levels. To achieve this, 528 abstracts from various scientific fields focused on digital transformation were analyzed using both manifest and latent content analyses, the latter ensuring a more objective interpretation of the outcomes derived from manifest content analysis. Frequency, word linkage, and concordance analyses of key concepts were used. The results indicated that education and workforce competences are viewed as vital for the digitalization of various sectors of the economy at both macro- and micro-level development. The findings suggest that technology drives digital transformation by delivering different types of value, including innovation and sustainability, while relying on education and technology-related competences. The results also revealed concerns about barriers to technology implementation, which could be overcome through education and competences. The originality of this research lies in its application of both manifest and latent analyses to identify the roles of education and technology in driving economic digital transformation.

Two graduate students and a faculty member of the Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky developed and implemented a two-year extension program aimed to train Amish farmers on identification and management of their major agricultural problems. Students conducted periodical visits to the community, inquired about farmers' needs, and identified relevant issues, which were outlined to plan two field days offered in their properties. Amish farmers gained knowledge on diverse topics and were eager to receive handouts and publications. Amish were open to apply new technologies and implement them without main changes in their traditional methods of agriculture. The graduate students acquired skills in developing and implementing outreach extension program. Communication and relationship continued with this community after this program was completed.

Numerous studies have delved into the application of augmented reality (AR) in chemistry education, focusing on specific topics, equipment requirements, and advantages. However, there remains a notable dearth of research examining the evolutionary characteristics of AR in this context. This study, employing bibliometric analysis on 66 articles spanning from 2012 to 2022, reveals that research primarily revolves around pedagogical approaches and AR technology development, particularly in kindergarten to 12th grade (K-12) education. Despite the United States exhibiting the highest publication frequency, there is a significant absence of studies addressing emotions, cognition, and physiological changes. Shedding light on these research gaps, this study underscores the need for further exploration into the cognitive, emotional, and physiological aspects of AR integration in chemistry education. Ultimately, the insights gleaned from this study offer valuable guidance for researchers, educators, and practitioners alike, facilitating the advancement and effective application of augmented reality in chemistry education (ARCE).

This research project addresses the decline in student engagement, retention, and academic performance in a college Reading 100 course at a local community college in Arizona over a threeyear period. Catering to students with low reading proficiency, including international students learning English, the course faced new challenges brought on by the pandemic, necessitating a shift in instructional strategies. Using a qualitative approach, data on drop-out rates, attendance, assignments, and assessment grades were collected for fall semesters in 2020, 2021, and 2022. The study identified concerning behaviors among students, such as apathy, low communication skills, isolation issues, low confidence, and little engagement, exacerbated by the transition to online and live online instruction during the pandemic. To tackle these challenges, the instructor experimented with innovative strategies to boost student engagement and success. Techniques included small and whole group discussions, modeling reading techniques, and leveraging technology to facilitate learning beyond the classroom. Furthermore, the research emphasized addressing students' social-emotional needs, considering the impact of isolation and mental health challenges. Though some improvements were observed, overall success rates remained unsatisfactory, with students still struggling to comprehend college-level texts. Recognizing the need for comprehensive interventions, the instructor conducted further research to explore effective engagement techniques and technology-based learning approaches, aiming to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. By combining these innovative methods with student agency and an adaptable approach, this study offers valuable insights for educators seeking to enhance student outcomes in college reading courses.

With the study reported on here we aimed to determine and compare teacher perceptions of the concept of virtual reality between Turkish and South African teachers using metaphors. We adopted a phenomenological approach, and a questionnaire was administered to a total of 100 teachers in both countries, using random sampling. The study included 4 schools -- 2 secondary schools selected from each country. The data obtained were analysed and categorised into themes using the metaphor mismatch technique. The following themes were identified and interpreted, learning, entertainment, technology, art, travel, and imagination. Teachers presented metaphors based on relevance to their area of practice and perceived potential use of virtual reality in teaching and learning. Based on the number of metaphors identified, teachers held a narrow perception in the categories, entertainment, technology, and travel, while more metaphors, with varied sample explanation responses were identified in the categories of learning, art, and imagination. The findings of this study can be used to develop a user road map for teacher professional development and to inform policy on the use of virtual reality in teaching and learning.

In June 2022, the Norwegian Expert Commission on Learning Analytics delivered an interim report to the Norwegian Minister of Education and Research. Motivated by the need to establish a solid foundation upon which to regulate and promote the use of learning analytics in the Norwegian educational sector, the Ministry asked the Expert Commission to investigate the relevant pedagogical, ethical, legal, and privacy issues. Addressing primary, secondary, higher, and vocational education, the interim report surveys the field of learning analytics and the regulatory environment across the contexts and analyzes its challenges and opportunities for Norwegian education. Four dilemmas -- data, learning, governance, and competence -- signal where greater knowledge, awareness, and reflection are needed, as well as the nature of necessary policy and regulatory choices. In this practical report, we offer insights on the use, development, and regulation of LA in different countries, describe the Expert Commission mandate, work method, and dilemmas, and conclude with a reflection on the relationship between research on learning analytics and the challenges that arise when implementing learning analytics in practice. This practical report is relevant for those interested in developing policies or practices surrounding the use of learning analytics at the local or national level.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the activities that children engage in with technology. In this direction, preschool children's ownership of technological devices, which devices they own and what they do with these devices were examined. This study was designed as qualitative research. The study group consisted of 34 preschool children studying during the 2023-2024 academic year. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews. The results of the study revealed that most of the children have a device at home and these devices are mostly tablets, and by smartphones. It was determined that almost all the children played digital games and the games varied. It was seen that all the children participating in the study watched cartoons, and most children watched YouTube. It was concluded that many of the children participating in the study did not watch TikTok. A thorough examination of the content they watched revealed the coexistence of appropriate and inappropriate materials. Therefore, informing parents about parental lock and similar applications that can be installed on devices, and preparing guides, books, seminars, etc. on the use of technology for parents were suggested.

The usage of video conferencing tools in teaching and learning has become a norm in today's higher educational institutions, recognized across various academic settings. The experience gained by most educators in using video conferencing tools for teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic could be leveraged to enhance these tools. The study aims to capture the current practices and explore the issues of using video conferencing for teaching and learning in Malaysian higher educational institutions. It focuses on three target groups with hands-on experience: academicians, students, and e-learning consultants or information technology (IT) support staff. Interview and focus group protocols were developed based on the four elements of the PACT framework: People (P), Activities (A), Contexts (C), and Technologies (T). Data were gathered through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with the target groups. There were 24 participants involved in three focus group discussions and 28 participants in individual in-depth interviews. The PACT framework was employed to analyze the data, aiding in understanding the current situation, identifying areas for improvement, and envisioning future scenarios. Qualitative data were transcribed and categorized based on the four PACT elements. The study identified differences in the People element with four scenarios/practices on physical differences, six on psychological differences, three on mental models, and five on social differences. A total of twenty differences were identified under the Activities element, with six on temporal aspects, four each on cooperation, complexity, and safety-critical aspects, and two on the nature of the content. Under the Context element, one scenario/practice was identified for organizational circumstances, five for social circumstances, and three for physical circumstances. In the Technology element, five scenarios/practices were identified: two related to the input part of technologies and one each for the output, communication, and content parts of technologies. From the scenarios/practices of the responses, a total of fifty-two issues related to using video conferencing for teaching and learning were identified. These findings will serve as the basis for ideation in developing innovative video conferencing toolkits for teaching and learning.

This paper examines secondary school students' perceptions of moral values in the digital environments (MVDE) and digital literacy (DL). The study used a quantitative methodology and correlational survey design encompassing 250 participants. Results show that participants' perceptions of DL are mostly high, while their perceptions of MVDE are mostly intermediate. Gender is not a source of significant difference in terms of either DL or MVDE. While grade is not a variable affecting DL, lower grades have statistically significant higher values in terms of MVDE. Participants who use social media have significantly higher DL scores, while the difference in MVDE is not significant in terms of the same variable. Like gender, online gaming is not a source of significant difference in terms of both DL and MVDE. Daily online time is not related to a significant difference in DL; however, those who are online for more than 3 hours daily have a significantly lower MVDE than those who spend less time online. Finally, results show that MVDE and DL are positively correlated at a moderate level, and MVDE explains 19.6% of DL. To conclude, MVDE should be fostered amongst individuals as it would help them become "better" citizens in the digital world, much like moral values do in real life.

Technology has been employed to streamline the process of acquiring knowledge and engaging in various endeavours, exemplified by the utilisation of computers. According to Dhiman (2021), there is a prevailing perception that secondary school students exhibit worse manners and earn lower academic outcomes as a result of their excessive use of mobile devices. The unregulated and extensive utilisation of technology has been found to have detrimental consequences on students' self-control and discipline, primarily due to their exposure to various media platforms, television videos, and cell phones, among other technical gadgets. This study was conducted to assess the effects of technology adaptation on students' discipline in public secondary schools in Nyamagana. The theoretical foundation for this study is aligned to Bandura's social learning theory and the Technological Acceptance Model by Davis. The study employed a mixed methods sequential exploratory research design in which data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The data collected were analysed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques, and the results of the quantitative analysis show a positive and significant relationship between smartphone use and student discipline ([beta] = -0.228, p, <0.001). The results further explain that a 1-unit increase in smartphone use affects student discipline by 23.6%. Moreover, the findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between watching television and the effects on student discipline ([beta] = 0.315, p<0.003). The results are interpreted to mean that a 1-unit increase in watching television affects the behaviours of students by approximately 35%. On the other hand, among social media users there is a positive and significant relationship between social media use and the discipline of students ([beta] = 0.010, p<0.000). Last, the findings for online gaming show that while there was a relationship between online gaming and student discipline, but it was negative and not statistically significant ([beta] = -0.064, p<0.689). This study recommends that policy makers should take into consideration the integration of the effects of using electronic devices on secondary school students' discipline in education policy to simplify the implementation of ways of avoiding those effects. Additionally, the study recommends that teachers should ensure the implementation of the restrictions put on the use of mobile phones in schools, and education should be provided for parents and the general community on the importance of limiting students from spending much time on electronic devices.

Nationwide, low numbers of students are entering STEM-related fields. This is especially true for underrepresented populations and students from rural areas where access to STEM enrichment programs is limited. This qualitative study researched the impact of Micro STEM Fests on 1st to 5th grade students and investigated participating teachers' attitudes toward STEM. The Micro STEM Fest kits used for this study include ten engineering and technology challenges. 5th graders studied and practiced these challenges and then led a Micro Stem Fest for 1st to 4th grade students. Survey and interview data were gathered from participating students and teachers in a rural district. Data was analyzed by grade levels and two themes were identified. Firstly, STEM knowledge was built through handling of materials, engaging in the engineering design process, and enjoying the challenge posed by the concept or activity. Secondly, positive attitudes towards STEM were developed because of their participation, evidenced by students' desire for harder challenges, and expressed enjoyment of autonomous creativity with STEM activities. This paper briefly reviews the literature, describes the methodology, defines and discusses the findings, and makes recommendations for future research.

The objectives of this research were to study (1) the development of knowledge on the aesthetics of Lam in Ubon Style, and (2) the process of transferring knowledge to inherit the performing arts of Molam Morlam-Ruang-Tor-Klon in Ubon style. Data from documents and fieldwork were analyzed and presented using descriptive analysis. The results showed that there are developments and changes according to the eras, divided into the old era before 1937, a few numbers of performers; the changing era into theatrical performance; the modern Morlam era brought popular musical instruments to play; and the current Morlam era, in which light and sound technology is used to help in the performance of three aspects of aesthetics: melody, poetry, and aesthetics of singing techniques. Regarding the process of transferring knowledge, the results indicated that two national artists have provided knowledge by practicing the performing arts in singing, dancing, and poetic gestures. Improvements are made in each area to enhance learners' skills development. The study provides significant insight and implications for developing learners' skills in performing arts at home.

New communication technologies express the transformation of traditional communication technologies in parallel with technological development. New media tools, such as propaganda tools in political elections, have become widespread in recent years. The use of social media in political elections has gained significant importance in recent years. Social media platforms provide an environment where political campaigns, candidates and voters can interact, and information sharing occurs quickly and widely. Candidates and political parties use social media platforms to deliver campaign messages, announce their policies, and communicate with voters. Through visual and written content, videos, live broadcasts and posts, candidates directly interact with voters and mobilize their supporters. Social media is an effective tool for spreading political propaganda and reaching large audiences with political information. Candidates and their supporters share various social media content to influence voters, defend their policies and persuade voters. Social media platforms gauge voters' opinions and preferences through surveys and feedback. Candidates and political parties seek feedback on social media to identify voters' expectations and concerns, shape their campaigns accordingly, and improve their policies. TRNC 2020 Presidential Elections is an essential topic for political science and international relations thesis studies. These elections provide a rich source for examining the political atmosphere of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the election process, competition between candidates, election results, and political transformations. By discussing the use of social media in the 2020 TRNC Presidential elections, this research examined how the candidates used social media channels and what the reflections were by revealing the political communication languages of the propaganda and the differences it created in social perception. Qualitative research methods and scanning models will be used in the research. The candidates' use of social media in the 2020 TRNC Presidential elections was examined with their propaganda languages and statistics obtained in new media.

The purpose of the study was to assess the level of technological literacy among non-teaching staff (NTS) in selected public universities in Edo State, Nigeria. Two research questions were raised to guide the study and two corresponding hypotheses were formulated and were also tested at 0.05 level of significance. A survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised 1520 NTS obtained from both public and private universities in Edo State used for this study. A forty-item questionnaire structured on a five-point rating scale was the instrument used for data collection. The content and face validity of the instrument were carried out by experts in measurement and evaluation and a science educator. A reliability coefficient of 0.80 was obtained. A reliability test of the instrument was also conducted and analysed using mean, standard deviation, and Z-test statistics. Findings show that non-teaching staff in Edo State selected universities possess moderate level knowledge of: (1) technological literacy, and (2) nature of technology. The study also revealed that there were high differences in technological skill levels between public and privately owned universities. Implication of the study was highlighted as being of great benefit to science and technology education planners and administrators, technical instructors and students. Based on the findings of the study, appropriate recommendations were made and if adopted it will enhance the level of technological literacy among non-teaching staff in universities in Edo State, Nigeria.

Contemporary society is characterized by diversity and intricacy, necessitating more meaningful learning experiences. To meet these evolving needs, the incorporation of computational systems into education must acknowledge the distinctive characteristics of learners. Therefore, we conducted a Systematic Mapping Study (SMS) to investigate technologies that support the Learner eXperience (LX) design in computational systems. LX refers to learners' perceptions, reactions, and achievements while engaging with learning resources, encompassing digital games, simulations, and multimedia. The SMS results uncovered distinct LX design technologies, with a notice able inclination towards learner-centric strategies. Interestingly, the results highlighted a scarcity of research targeting non-traditional learning environments (e.g., technical visits) and that facilitate interactions among learners beyond their own classmates (e.g., industry experts). In this way, the SMS contributes by revealing LX design technologies, LX design elements, relevant constructs/theories, computational systems, environments, contexts, and other related factors, thereby enhancing the understanding of optimal learning experiences within computational learning systems.

In this paper, we present an activity to introduce the idea of public-key cryptography and to make pre-service STEM teachers explore fundamental informatics and mathematical concepts and methods. We follow the Theory of Didactical Situations within the Didactical Engineering methodology (both widely used in mathematics education research) to design and analyse a didactical situation about asymmetric cryptography using graphs. Following the phases of Didactical Engineering, after the preliminary analysis of the content, the constraints and conditions of the teaching context, we conceived and analysed the situation a priori, with a particular focus on the milieu (the set of elements students can interact with) and on the choices for the didactical variables. We discuss their impact on the problem-solving strategies the participants need to elaborate to decrypt an encrypted message. We implemented our situation and collected qualitative data. We then analysed a posteriori the different strategies that participants used. The comparison of the a posteriori analysis with the a priori analysis showed the learning potential of the activity. To elaborate on different problem-solving strategies, the participants need to explore and understand several concepts and methods from mathematics, informatics, and the frontier of the two disciplines, also moving between different semiotic registers.

Background: Implementation issues often impede the realisation of the potential benefits of technology in disability care organisations for people with disabilities. Therefore, we conducted a longitudinal study to gain insights into the barriers and facilitators to implementation. Methods: From 2019 to 2022, data were collected using questionnaires and interviews during 28 implementation projects in 26 disability care organisations. Results: Barriers and facilitators were identified using 9 themes and 26 subthemes. The main themes identified were finances, disability care organisations, internal collaborations, external collaborations, technology, care staff, project teams, people with disabilities, and context. Most factors mentioned as barriers in one organisation were mentioned as facilitators in others. This suggests that barriers can be resolved to improve implementation. Conclusion: A large number of barriers and facilitators spanning the organisation suggests that the implementation of technology should be considered an organisational reform. Acting upon them is crucial for the successful implementation of technology.

It examines how maker education, fueled by hands-on learning and a curiosity-driven approach, can evolve and influence. The study explores the roles and impacts of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design-Driven Innovation (DDI), and Cross-Cultural Perspectives (CCP) within maker education. It highlights HCI's connection of technology with learning, DDI's focus on user-centered solutions, and the significance of CCP in enhancing cultural collaboration, vital for fostering an innovative and creative future. This paper offers a detailed perspective on the current state and future potential of maker education. It proposes a roadmap for the coming decade, emphasizing collaborative learning and creative endeavors, all set within the engaging environment of the competition.

Improving adolescent digital resilience in the digital era, guiding adolescents to correctly face and adapt to the pressures, challenges, or adversities brought on by technology, and assisting adolescents in better adapting to digital life is an unavoidable task under the new normal of education and information technology changes. At this point, there is a need for more specialized studies on teenagers' digital resilience and technology stress, which makes understanding the link and current state of adolescents' digital resilience and technological stress challenging. This study aims to examine the current state, differences, and influencing factors of digital resilience and technological stress among adolescents in different settings (family, school, and leisure) and ultimately recommend interventions that promote digital resilience and reduce technological stress among adolescents. This study used a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to examine the current state of digital resilience and technological stress among adolescents aged 12 to 18 years (M = 14.91, SD = 1.994) from various educational institutions and backgrounds. The findings revealed a substantial inverse relationship between digital resilience and adolescent technology stress. Adolescents experience technological stress in various settings, including school, family and leisure. They also use distinct coping techniques for each type of stress and display different degrees of resilience and self-efficacy in overcoming technology stress in various situations. Several psychological, social, and environmental factors, such as gender, age, school dynamics, family influences, and leisure settings, all impact this delicate interaction. The findings add to our understanding of technology stress and digital resilience among teenagers in various situations in the digital era, and they have significant theoretical and practical implications for educators and related researchers. The current study points to future research directions for more extensively investigating digital resilience and technology stress among adolescents, displaying an opportunity for significant improvement in this crucial area.

Purpose: Higher education curriculum development in the construction industry has historically received scant academic attention and often, courses/programmes are largely developed using the tacit knowledge of individual tutors. This research investigates the core interpersonal and technical skills and competencies required of a contemporary construction management graduate. Specifically, the work culminates in the development of a proof-of-concept model that could be incorporated into higher education curriculum development. Methodology: A mixed philosophical stance is implemented using both postpositivism and interpretivism together with inductive and abductive reasoning to examine built environment academics' perceptions of the phenomena under investigation. Descriptive and inferential statistics (i.e., weighted average, relative importance index, one sample t test, Chi-square test and Kruskal-Wallis test) are utilised to formulate a foundational set of core interpersonal skills for construction management curricula. Such knowledge provides a strong foundation for building an optimised course curriculum. Findings: Research findings demonstrate that, whilst technical skills are relatively important for the construction manager's role, they significantly pale in comparison to interpersonal skills. Furthermore, an aggregate ranking of skills and competencies suggests that a substantial number of interpersonal skills and competencies out-rank numerous technical skills and competencies. Surprisingly, digital-esque themes rank towards the bottom of the table, with 'traditional' skills competencies (i.e., workflow, budgeting and costing) ranking higher. Originality: This research constitutes the first attempt to: understand the core interpersonal and technical skills and competencies required of a contemporary construction manager; and premised upon this, generate a construction management education curriculum foundation model. Nascent findings pinpoint the core interpersonal skills and competencies that serve as the curriculum's foundation and expose the inadequacies of digital technical skills in core construction management teaching.

Physical health habits including physical activity and nutrition are essential for numerous health benefits. However, beginning in childhood, individuals with intellectual disability engage in lower levels of physical activity and healthy nutrition habits compared to individuals without intellectual disability, a trend that carries on into adulthood. Researchers continue to examine the effectiveness of interventions to increase engagement in physical health habits and improve health outcomes for individuals with intellectual disability, with an increased focus on technology-based interventions. This scoping review aimed to describe how technology was being utilized within interventions to improve health-related outcomes for adults with intellectual disability. We described the technology being used, who used the technology, and the feasibility of the interventions. Forty-one studies met criteria, with a total of 698 adult participants with an intellectual disability. While no studies on nutrition were located, technology was used in various physical activity interventions, with the most common being preferred stimulus access, exergaming, and video-based instruction. Most studies took place at day or rehabilitation centers, were implemented by research teams, and either did not discuss cost or were vague in their description related to cost. Implications, limitations, and future research directions are discussed.

Objective/Research Question: There is a growing demand for skilled workers in engineering and technology fields. However, the number of engineering technology degrees awarded is much less compared to engineering, and a high percentage of students in engineering technology do not persist beyond the first year. To meet the demands for skilled workers, it is important to understand the experiences of engineering technology students to identify factors that contribute to their matriculation and persistence. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the research that exists on the academic and personal experiences of engineering technology and welding technology students. The research questions guiding this study are: (a) what are the academic and personal experiences of engineering technology and welding technology students at 2- and 4-year institutions? and (b) what are students' experiences with persisting in engineering technology? Methods: Using our research questions and predetermined inclusion criteria, we performed a literature review of relevant articles retrieved from Scopus and ERIC ProQuest databases. Results: We identify three areas of opportunities for future research examination: (a) experiences of students of marginalized populations in engineering technology, (b) how to leverage career and technical education and 2-year engineering technology programs to support matriculation, and (c) ways to address the negative stigma associated with engineering technology programs. Conclusions/Contributions: To meet the demands of the nation's economy and future workforce, it is important to further examine the experiences of engineering technology students.

Unnoticed by most, some technology corporations have changed their terms of service to allow user data to be transferred to clouds and even to be used to train artificial intelligence systems. As a result of these developments, remote data collection may in many cases become impossible to be conducted anonymously. Researchers need to react by reconsidering their mode of data collection, raising awareness, and expanding informed consent to ensure information sovereignty. Considerations for data sharing are discussed.

Purpose: Along with other industries, healthcare is becoming increasingly digitized. Our study explores how the field of academic medicine is preparing for this digital future. Method: Active strategic plans available in English were collected from faculties of medicine in Canada (n = 14), departments in medical schools (n = 17), academic health science centres (n = 23) and associated research institutes (n = 5). In total, 59 strategic plans were subjected to a practice-oriented form of document analysis, informed by the concept of sociotechnical imaginaries. Results: On the one hand, digital health is discursively treated as a continuation of the academic medicine vision, with expansions of physician competencies and of research institutes contributions. These imaginaries do not necessarily disrupt the field of academic medicine as currently configured. On the other hand, there is a vision of digital health pursuing a robust sociotechnical future with transformative implications for how care is conducted, what forms of knowledge are prioritized, how patients and patienthood will be understood, and how data work will be distributed. This imaginary may destabilize existing distributions of knowledge and power. Conclusions: Looking through the lens of sociotechnical imaginaries, this study illuminates strategic plans as framing desirable futures, directing attention towards specific ways of understanding problems of healthcare, and mobilizing the resources to knit together social and technical systems in ways that bring these visions to fruition. There are bound to be tensions as these sociotechnical imaginaries are translated into material realities. Many of those tensions and their attempted resolutions will have direct implications for the expectations of health professional graduates, the nature of clinical learning environments, and future relationships with patients. Sociology of digital health and science and technology studies can provide useful insights to guide leaders in academic medicine shaping these digital futures.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, restricted access to in-person facilities and traditional experiential learning activities meant that new, online solutions were needed to facilitate student learning/development across the disciplines of Allied Health and Engineering. Purpose: This article describes research conducted as part of an interdisciplinary Dietetic/Electronic Engineering project to evaluate student experiences of online problem-based learning (PBL) activities in addressing this necessity. Methodology/Approach: The authors implemented a specific, health technology-based assignment using an online PBL approach to evaluate and develop the effectiveness of this approach for students' experiential learning. Surveys and observations were used to evaluate the project effectiveness. Findings/Conclusions: Participating students reported on their experiences of working in interdisciplinary teams, focusing on aspects such as knowledge gained, collaboration, perspective, facilitation and experiential learning. Students identified enhanced learning and research skills as some key benefits. Drawbacks identified included difficulties associated with the online environment, such as synchronisation and remoteness. Implications: The use of interdisciplinary assignments highlights the many advantages/benefits which experiential pedagogies have in supporting students to integrate and apply their knowledge to a real-world problem space. The ability to connect student engagement and motivation to the development of critical thinking skills appears to enhance problem-solving in the student work.

We share digital collages composed by youth in Lit Diaspora, a community-based after-school literacy initiative involving Black African immigrant youth and adult collaborators, as one contemporary example of rendering visible the contours of the educational lives of African immigrant youth, among the fastest growing immigrant communities in the U.S. We do so amid anti-Black, anti-immigrant discourse and policy in schools, workplaces, and society in the U.S. and globally. Thus, in framing our inquiry, we examine how educators and researchers, attending to the varied diaspora digital literacies and educational experiences of African immigrant youth: talk back to deficit narratives of their lived schooling experiences; navigate literacy learning across contexts of families and elders; demonstrate social and civic literacies that extend youth's identities; and affirm cultural and embodied knowledge, language, and practices.

Across Australia, early years learning frameworks recommend digital technologies be integrated into early years centres. Introduced in 2009, the Early Years Learning Framework, requires educators to foster children's use of technologies for accessing information, investigating ideas, and representing their thinking. The National Quality Framework also encourages children to engage with digital technology for experimentation. Using a researcher created Digital Technology Activity Framework for early years centres, this study examined broad digital technology integration in a sample of Australian early years centres. Using desktop audits, interviews and observations, the study found that while digital technologies were widely embedded, there were significant opportunities evident for further promoting children's agency with devices. These findings suggest that to support children's achievement of learning outcomes with digital technologies, greater sector-wide professional learning and aligned resources in effective digital pedagogy and policy development would be valuable for both early years centre directors and educators.

University-industry relationship has always been disputable in higher education. The affiliated Technology Development Zones (TDZs) of universities are proposed as the most viable form of university-industry relationship, and countries have invested extensive public monies in TDZs. However, concerns have been raised regarding the structures of TDZs and their ties with mother universities, the compatibility of TDZs with university's core academic values, and whether TDZs are the most appropriate forms of science and technology policy. This study aims to explore the characteristics of Turkey's TDZs and their role in science and technology policy from a neo-institutional framework. In a multiple-case study of three TDZs of three universities, data were collected via interviews in TDZs and universities, and from document analyses. Results show coercive isomorphism is effective in the similarization of TDZs regarding basic structural characteristics. However, very few successful TDZs function as a source of mimetic isomorphism and cause more prevalent similarization in structural and functional characteristics of TDZs. Although very few TDZs operate efficiently, quantitative increase in the number of TDZs suggests the TDZ policy is motivated by ceremonial concerns. Finally, TDZs are prone to several conflicts including academics' perception of TDZs as the agents of neoliberal ideals and practices.

As teachers are purveyors of digital citizenship and their perspectives influence classroom practice, it is important to understand teachers' views on digital citizenship. This study establishes the Teachers' Perceptions of Digital Citizenship Scale (T-PODS) as a survey instrument for scholars to investigate educators' views on digital citizenship for their students. Drawing upon existing research, a theorized model of digital citizenship was developed and validated via a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), resulting in a 14-item four-factor model. Factor constructs include digital ethics, participation and engagement, informed citizens and civic know-how. As teachers' views can shift over time, particularly with the emergence of new technologies, scholars can utilize T-PODS as they investigate educators' perceptions of digital citizenship across time and context.

This study investigates the evolving landscape of learning and innovation within organisations that are particularly affected by the increasing digitalisation and prevalence of remote work and trainings. Focusing on the police and technology sectors, in this research 20 individuals were interviewed, identifying both real-time and long-term challenges associated with remote learning and innovation. In the police sector, the real-time challenges included one-way efficiency, encompassing impracticality, unidimensional learning situations, and efficiency-driven multitasking. A long-term challenge was individualistic performance orientation, suggesting a shift in learning responsibility from the organisation to the individual. In the technology sector, the real-time challenges involved incomplete detections during remote innovation, encompassing missing artefacts, unlikely coincidences, and narrow observations. A long-term challenge was the weakening of social bonds, with subthemes such as community distancing and a decline in social skills. The study emphasises the critical need for appropriate remote workplace pedagogy, community reinforcement and well-planned training to address these challenges, emphasising that the values guiding remote work and virtual environments play a crucial role in shaping learning outcomes.

Digital technologies promote active, interactive, collaborative, and immersive learning but the challenge of how to prepare teachers effectively for digital technology utilisation in the instructional process remains a pertinent problem for education institutions. Guided by task-technology fit theory, this research delves into technology use by teachers and argues that efficacy of utilisation is contingent on technology compatibility with teachers' tasks. Using the context of wearable technology, this research examines the links between task-technology fit, teaching innovativeness, and teacher readiness to use wearables in teaching. 346 survey responses from physical education teachers in Kuwait were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The analysis evaluates hypothesised relationships and considers the roles of task and technology characteristics, information and communication technology proficiency, and attitudes towards co-creation. The survey results suggest that there is a strong correlation between task-technology fit, teaching innovativeness, and teacher readiness. Furthermore, the results provide empirical evidence that task and technology characteristics positively relate to task-technology fit, while technology proficiency and attitudes towards co-creation positively relate to teaching innovativeness. The findings carry theoretical implications related to factors influencing task-technology fit and its relationship with teaching innovativeness. In practical terms, the findings advise supporting teachers' digital skills and integrating fit considerations into education technology selection. Overall, this study provides added value to theory by positing that teacher readiness can be explained by both task-technology fit and teacher innovativeness. This readiness context changes the dynamics of constructs within task-technology fit theory -- creating a stronger relationship between technology characteristics and task-technology fit.

Digital transformation (DT) is raising new challenges. This article seeks to understand how DT has changed business strategies, requiring a new profile of professionals, analyzing the most sought-after skills and identifying opportunities for future professionals. Also, it studies whether universities have incorporated in their training the new skills required by the labor market impacted by DT. To these ends, a systematic literature review dealing with digital transformation, competence, and education was conducted. The existing literature was categorized into seven main areas of investigation: digital literacy; skills identification; use of digital technologies in teaching; learning models; workforce qualification or re-skilling; digital technologies in the labor market; and undergraduate course analysis. This structuring then lays the groundwork for capturing gaps in the literature and proposing future research.

Contribution: This research explores the effectiveness of a proposed teaching strategy in blockchain education, finding that it enhances learning outcomes, cognitive well-being, and student engagement in tertiary education, ultimately resulting in a shallower learning curve for STEM knowledge. Background: In the context of Industry 4.0, blockchain technology has emerged as a key driver of transformation in data management and system automation across a range of industrial applications. Despite its significance, the intricate theories and concepts associated with blockchain often serve as a deterrent for novice learners, inhibiting their ability to appreciate the value of industrial blockchain. Consequently, there is a pressing need to develop interactive teaching content that alleviates the steep learning curve. Intended Outcomes: The teaching strategy for the gamification in blockchain education is proposed, which positively influence students' cognitive well-being in terms of knowledge retention, cognitive curiosity, and heightened enjoyment. Application Design: Based on the experimental learning theory, the gamification of blockchain education, namely "BlockTrainHK", is implemented in the experimental learning cycle. Therefore, the gamified learning in experimental learning (GEL) strategy is proposed to examine the effectiveness of concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization and active experimentation by two case studies. Findings: The results of the two-year study on the gamified blockchain education are encouraging: test groups using the GEL strategy were better in the cognitive well-being, and students' cognitive well-being is positively proportional to the level of individual technical knowledge and skills.

Objective: This study examined the relationships between ADHD symptomatology, the motivations for physical activity (PA) according to self-determination theory, and the acceptability of three PA promotion technologies (active video game, mobile application, and telehealth) according to the dimensions of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology-2 (UTAUT2). Method: A total of 312 women, aged 30.7 ± 7.1 years, followed for obesity with an average body mass index of 34.5 ± 7.8 kg/m[superscript 2], were included in this sub-analysis. Results: Fifty-seven individuals (18.3%) were identified with positive screening symptoms of ADHD. No differences emerged regarding acceptability of technology-based PA. However, individuals with positive screening for ADHD tended to have higher scores for acceptability of active video game on the UTAUT2 dimensions of effort expectancy and hedonic motivation. Conclusion: This study suggests that active video game may be more appropriate than other technologies for individuals with obesity and ADHD symptoms

'Design and Technology' has been propelled into the spotlight with the popularity of the idea of 'STEM'. So much so that it is now common for primary schools to have 'STEM classrooms' or makerspaces. Whilst there has been an increasing exploration of the use of makerspaces, there has been limited research on the impacts, particularly with pre-service teachers (PST), who are known to lack confidence in STEM-related subjects. Therefore, in this research, we explore how different aspects of makerspaces may influence PST confidence. Participating PST worked in small groups in the Uni Makerspace to design a product as part of a formal university assessment in a primary education Science subject. The case study design includes four groups of PST and data from interviews, observations and artefacts. Results outline confidence development amongst PST with several key Makerspace influences identified, including the importance of learning to use sophisticated equipment and the key role played by the Makerspace facilitators. Implications for Makerspaces and STEM education are discussed, including the potential to leverage the 'novelty effect' of Makerspaces, and the need to offer extensive support, particularly in the early stages of engagement.

Research on students' perceptions and understanding of technology has shown that students have a narrow view of technology: for example, technology is often manifested in students' descriptions as artefacts or objects. This study investigates the ways in which students' understanding of how technology is manifested expands during a series of classroom activities in technology. The study was conducted at a compulsory primary school with eight-year-old students. The data (video and audio recordings) were collected in small-group interactions and in whole-class discussions. In the interactions, the students utilised self-taken photographs to visualise their understanding and perception of technology's manifestations: object, activity, volition, and knowledge (Mitcham in Thinking through technology. The path between engineering and philosophy, The University of Chicago Press, 1994). Based on their prior knowledge, the students perceived technology as contemporary electrical artefacts. As they engage in a technology project, they develop and expand their understanding of how technology is manifested, as well as relate different manifestations to one another. The findings indicate that students achieve a more advanced understanding of technological manifestations compared to only discussing each manifestation of technology separately.

This article challenges an over-reliance on language as the primary means to communicate knowledge by adopting a language"less"ness approach to maker pedagogies and maker literacies. Having conducted makerspace and design-based research for some time, we separately and together noticed a productive relationship between wordless relational makerspace and making moments focused on craft, tools, technologies, and materials, and ways that an absence of verbal and written communication opens possibilities within learning environments. After meetings and discussions, we co-wrote the article to examine ways that language-light, even language-free pedagogical spaces allow for a different quality of design work that motivates and fosters innovation. There are three international research projects that serve as research vignettes to investigate the efficacy of languagelessness. The theory foregrounded to anchor and interpret the three vignettes draws from maker literacies research and sociomaterial orientations to knowledge development.

In design-oriented biomedical engineering courses, some instructors teach need-driven methods for health technology innovation that use a "need statement" to reflect a student team's hypothesis about the most fruitful direction for their project. While need statements are of the utmost importance to the projects, we were not aware of any comprehensive rubric for helping instructors evaluate them. Leveraging resources such as the "Biodesign" textbook along with input from faculty teaching health technology design at our university, we created a rubric for evaluating the construction of need statements. We then introduced the rubric to undergraduate students in a 3-week intersession course in fall 2023. Afterward, we used the rubric to compare the de-identified final need statements from 2023 to the de-identified final need statements from students in the course in 2022 and 2021. Our assumption that need statements from 2023 would score better against the rubric than those from previous years proved not to be the case. However, we gleaned valuable lessons about the role of rubrics in supporting student learning and increasing alignment among faculty, as well as insights about rubric development and areas for future study. In this article, we also share the initial version of the rubric so that other instructors can adapt and improve upon it for their own courses.

In an effort to better engage biomedical engineering technology (BMET) students with material covered in lectures and to connect them with their future careers, we created interactive 360° videos in typical BMET workplaces. Students watched the videos using virtual reality (VR) headsets and reflected on the experience. Students commented that the 360° videos made them feel that they were actually in the workplace and provided a better understanding of the devices that were covered in lectures. The use of interactive 360° videos proved to be an effective way for students to explore equipment and situations and has the potential to be more broadly applied in the biomedical engineering field.

The integration of research activities in universities of applied sciences (UASs) has led to the transformation of these universities into organisations with two primary processes: research and education. Although many believe in the benefits of combining research and education in one organisation, which is referred to as synergy in this study, research-education synergies have rarely been empirically investigated, particularly in the UAS context. Thus, this research investigates the intended synergy between the research and education of UASs by conducting a document analysis of their university-wide strategic policy. The findings show that UASs aim for synergies among people, UAS organisations and outside UAS organisations, with a focus on education-oriented synergies. This study provides an initial understanding of the strategic aims of UASs considering research--education synergy. The findings provide direction and a framework for future research and form a base for making explicit strategic choices for research--education connections in universities.

Population-adjusted indirect comparison (PAIC) is an increasingly used technique for estimating the comparative effectiveness of different treatments for the health technology assessments when head-to-head trials are unavailable. Three commonly used PAIC methods include matching-adjusted indirect comparison (MAIC), simulated treatment comparison (STC), and multilevel network meta-regression (ML-NMR). MAIC enables researchers to achieve balanced covariate distribution across two independent trials when individual participant data are only available in one trial. In this article, we provide a comprehensive review of the MAIC methods, including their theoretical derivation, implicit assumptions, and connection to calibration estimation in survey sampling. We discuss the nuances between anchored and unanchored MAIC, as well as their required assumptions. Furthermore, we implement various MAIC methods in a user-friendly R Shiny application Shiny-MAIC. To our knowledge, it is the first Shiny application that implements various MAIC methods. The Shiny-MAIC application offers choice between anchored or unanchored MAIC, choice among different types of covariates and outcomes, and two variance estimators including bootstrap and robust standard errors. An example with simulated data is provided to demonstrate the utility of the Shiny-MAIC application, enabling a user-friendly approach conducting MAIC for healthcare decision-making. This article highlights inherent conflicts between technology industry incentives and a new social contract for education, while arguing for safeguards to mitigate the risk of technology industry engagement in education governance. Business strategies often utilize economies of scale, standardization, and internationalization to maximize profits. These strategies are diametrically opposed to education as a public endeavor and as a reflection of humanity's diverse ways of knowing and being in various local contexts. Technology industry strategies tend to emphasize the disruption of sectors and encourage entrepreneurialism and innovation with an emphasis on outputs, measurement, and impact. These strategies often recast the "good" of education from public to private returns. While appropriate engagement of non-state technology actors in education governance can offer solutions in support of global education goals and a new social contract for education, I argue that such mobilization is multi-sided, simultaneously pushing through innovative, yet untested, education agendas. The article identifies potential risks to systems of public education and reflects upon safeguards, which fall into two main categories: issues of transparency, accountability and legitimacy; and issues of technology management and governance. Proactively addressing inherent conflicts and potential safeguards, I argue, is a key step to identifying ways to strengthen motivations for corporations to forge meaningful long-term investment in a new social contract for education and for the development of education governance structures that are equitable and democratic.

Evolving from its instructional design origins and directly related to contemporary learning experience design (LXD), learning design has emerged as a movement within the field of workplace learning and development that seeks to shift the focus of training and education from the content to the learner. The origins of this learner focus can be traced to the development of instructional design theories and the emergence of learning sciences in the late 20th century, along with the expansion of competencies required of the modern instructional designer. Advances in our understanding of how people learn and changes in sociocultural aspects related to learning have led designers to structure experiences for learners that increase their autonomy and seek to meet each learner's unique needs.

The Journal of Special Educational Technology (JOSET) has been a leading journal in the domain of technology application in special education since 1978 (Journal Searches, 2023; Resurchify, 2022; SCI Journal, 2023; Scopus, 2022). In this bibliometric study, we examined JOSET's growth, publication trends, contributions, and international collaborations using descriptive, intellectual, conceptual, and social structure analyses. Documents (i.e., articles, editorials, errata, letters, and notes) published in JOSET from 1996 to 2021 were retrieved from the Scopus database and analysed using Biblioshiny embedded in R studio. Co-citation and co-word analyses identified five and two clusters, respectively. The analysis of the collaboration structure in JOSET reveals a positive relationship among authors, with over 75% of publications resulting from collaboration. The results further suggest that the journal continues to keep pace with global trends and contemporary issues, which can enhance its impact and readership and drive the growth of its annual publication number.

English language education nowadays is not merely about the instruction and acquisition of linguistic knowledge and skills. Instead, it has progressed to the real-life applications of the target language, which further requires a mastery of cultural knowledge and skills. In terms of culture, English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, compared to native speakers of English, own their unique native culture. Yet, since language teachers tend to focus on the delivery of English cultural knowledge, EFL learners' native culture is sometimes shadowed in the mainstream English classrooms worldwide. To this end, this exploratory paper aims to advocate attention to the importance of EFL learners' native culture awareness and share some practical teaching and learning experiences in an English course called "Multimedia and Foreign Language Learning." The paper outlines the pedagogical design of the course in China, providing classroom examples and practical suggestions to course designers, educators and instructors. We expect to give insights into integrating native culture into foreign language education in university settings.

The concept of co-amorphous systems is introduced in an integrated laboratory experiment, designed for advanced chemistry students, using solvent-free, environmentally friendly mechanochemistry. The dual-drug naproxen-cimetidine co-amorphous system (NPX-CIM) is investigated as an example of the emergent field of medicinal mechanochemistry. Students are trained in solid-state characterization techniques including X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermal analysis by differential scanning calorimetry. This lab experiment also provides an opportunity to discuss the relevance of different solid forms of pharmaceutics, emphasizing particular properties of disordered materials. This experiment can easily fit the curriculum of any Chemistry or Pharmacy master level degree in courses dealing with instrumental analysis, solid state chemistry, or green chemistry, for classes of 6 to 18 students, in a 5-h lab session. Suggestions to adapt it to the use of a single characterization technique are provided.
