Abstract Lung oligometastases represent an intermediate state of cancer dissemination between localized and widespread metastases. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has emerged as an effective treatment option, with an efficacy comparable to that of surgical resection. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive summary of the latest advancements and controversial issues regarding SBRT for lung oligometastases. It focuses on four crucial perspectives: efficacy of SBRT, optimal patient selection criteria, technological innovations, and synergistic effects of SBRT combined with systemic therapy. Relevant clinical trials investigating SBRT for lung oligometastases have been conducted, with median 1‐ and 5‐year local control rates of 90% and 79%, respectively. The origin of the primary tumor, size and number of lesions, and biomarker profiles were highlighted as pivotal considerations in patient selection. The precise dose delivery was enhanced using robotic SBRT and optimized dose fractionation schemes. Evidence suggests that dose escalation above 100 Gy biologically effective dose may improve tumor control. Combined immunotherapy and SBRT have demonstrated synergistic effects in prolonging progression‐free survival and overall survival. This review provides valuable insights into the precise treatment of oligometastatic lung diseases using SBRT. Further multicenter randomized trials are warranted to develop definitive patient selection criteria and optimize the integration with systemic therapies.

We describe the impact of post-annealing on ferroelectric-domain structures in arrays of BiFeO3 (BFO) epitaxial nanoislands, which exhibit a domain evolution from an initial 71° stripe/vortex domains to center-convergent topological domains. These results suggest that the increase and redistribution of charged defects, e.g., oxygen vacancies, in BFO nanoislands play a crucial role in driving the formation of center-type domain structures. The observation of defect-driven domain evolution in BFO nanoislands provides a path for further exploring their formation mechanism, topological properties, novel functionalities, and potential applications. Abstract Background Antiretroviral therapy (ART) can reduce viral load in individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); however, some HIV-infected individuals still cannot achieve optimal immune recovery even after ART. Hence, we described the profile of peripheral immune cells and explored the association with disease progression in patients infected with HIV-1. Methods Mass cytometry analysis was used to characterize the circulating immune cells of 20 treatment-naïve (TNs), 20 immunological non-responders (INRs), 20 immunological responders (IRs), and 10 healthy controls (HCs). Correlation analysis was conducted between cell subpopulation percentages and indicators including HIV-1 cell-associated (CA)-RNA, DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and CD4/CD8 ratio. Results Global activation, immunosenescence, and exhaustion phenotypes were observed in myeloid cells and T cells from individuals with HIV-1 infection. We also found that specific subsets or clusters of myeloid, CD4+ T, and CD8+ T cells were significantly lost or increased in TN individuals, which could be partially restored after receiving ART. The percentages of several subpopulations correlated with HIV-1 CA-RNA, DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and CD4/CD8 ratio, suggesting that changes in immune cell composition were associated with therapeutic efficacy. Conclusion These data provide a complete profile of immune cell subpopulations or clusters that are associated with disease progression during chronic HIV-1 infection, which will improve understanding regarding the mechanism of incomplete immune recovery in INRs.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of symmetrical arc incision correcting corneal astigmatism in femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification (FLACS). METHODS: This study enrolled patients with cataract combined with regular corneal astigmatism of >0.75 D, who underwent FLACS. Symmetrical arc incision was set at 8 mm diameter and 85% depth. The follow-up time was 3-24mo (4.92±3.49mo). Pentacam recorded the corneal astigmatism and higher-order aberration at pre-operation and post-operation. The changes in corneal astigmatism were analyzed by Alpins method. The correlation of astigmatism type, age, corneal horizontal diameter, corneal thickness, arc incision length, and correction index (CI) was analyzed, and the residual corneal astigmatism was compared with the residual whole eye astigmatism. RESULTS: Totally 79 patients (102 eyes) were enrolled, 10 patients had corneal epithelial injury, 1 patient occurred corneal epithelial hyperplasia. The corneal astigmatism was 1.23±0.38 D pre-operation, and decreased to 0.76±0.39 D post-operation (t=10.146, P=0.000). Corneal high-order aberration was 0.17±0.08 μm pre-operation and 0.24±0.11 μm post-operation (t=-5.186, P=0.000). The residual corneal astigmatism and residual whole eye astigmatism were no significant difference (t=-0.347, P=0.729). Using Alpin's method, the following were determined: target-induced astigmatism (TIA) =1.23±0.38 D, surgery-induced astigmatism (SIA) =0.77±0.45 D, difference vector (DV)=0.77±0.39 D, and CI=0.54±0.28. Age, astigmatism size, corneal horizontal diameter, corneal thickness, and arc incision length were not correlated with CI. The CI for against the rule astigmatism (ATR) was better than that for with the rule astigmatism (WTR; P=0.001). CONCLUSION: Femtosecond laser-assisted astigmatic keratotomy has better CI of ATR, but increase higher-order corneal aberration. CI is not ideal, it's not a perfect choice if we pursue ideal correction effect.

The Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) model has been widely used for estimating runoff and soil loss. The evaluation of the latest version (version 2021.133) under a range of environmental conditions can provide confidence to its users. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the WEPP model for runoff and soil loss predictions using 1159 plot years of rainfall-runoff events data from field experimental plots with various climates, soils, topographies, and crops. WEPP runoff and soil loss predictions were compared to the observations before and after input parameter calibration. The results showed good predictions of runoff and soil loss were obtained with both the uncalibrated and calibrated WEPP model for all considered scales with Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiencies (NSE) over 0.4. The calibration of input baseline effective hydraulic conductivity (ke), baseline critical shear stress (τc), baseline rill erodibility (kr), and baseline interrill erodibility (ki) improved WEPP model performance with NSE values of 0.98 and 0.91 for average annual runoff and soil loss predictions, respectively. The WEPP model tended to underestimate the runoff and soil loss for large events with runoff over 100 mm and soil loss over 120 t/ha. Good event runoff and soil loss predictions (NSE ≥0.4) were obtained for the most common cropping/management systems considered, including corn, cotton, tilled fallow, and wheat after calibration. This study illustrates the most recent WEPP model's performance for runoff and soil loss predictions, and provides a comprehensive set of results.

Understanding the relationship between gel formation and the hierarchical structure of mung bean starch fermented by Lactobacillus plantarum has potential value for its green modification and quality improvement. The variations in characteristics, including gelation characteristics, starch chain, and the molecular order degree of mung bean starch fermented by different L. plantarum, were compared. The results show that in the gelation process, starch began to disintegrate at 65 °C, indicating a critical temperature for structural changes. Compared with the control group, although the effects of different L. plantarum sources on mung bean starch varied, notable improvements were observed in water absorption across all groups of fermented starch, along with reduced free water-soluble substances and enhanced anti-expansion ability. This led to the easier formation of gels with higher viscosity, primarily attributed to decreased crystallinity, increased short-chain amylopectin tendency, an elevated amylose content, and enhanced short-range order when microorganisms acted on the crystallization zone. In conclusion, although L. plantarum came from different sources, its action mode on mung bean starch was similar, which could enhance the gel structure.

The inhibition of resveratrol on the formation of thermally induced trans fatty acids in peanut oil and its structure-activity relationship were studied by gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC), and theoretical calculation. The results showed that the content of resveratrol decreased with an increase in temperature, and too high temperatures caused a cut-off effect. Resveratrol significantly inhibited the formation of trans fatty acids in peanut oil, and the inhibition rate of total trans fatty acids decreased with increasing temperature. The highest inhibition rate of cis-trans isomerization of fatty acids was 30.30%. The inhibitory effect could be attributed to the energy barrier formed by reducing the rate of isomerization reaction and increasing the amount of trans fatty acids. Its quantitative parameters (intrinsic thermodynamic energy and total entropy) determined the anti-isomerization effect. Moreover, the structure-activity relationship for the anti-isomerization effect was established, which will lay a theoretical foundation for the precise regulation of trans fatty acids.
