- Abstract
Retinal detachments are considered an emergent condition warranting immediate recognition and treatment. However, not all detachments require immediate intervention. This article will differentiate the three types of retinal detachments, discuss the predisposing associations and current treatments for the different retinal detachments, and discuss retinal tears. Because many patients present directly to the emergency departments for ocular symptoms, prompt recognition and triage by emergency medical personnel can help ensure optimal visual outcome.
